Wk of Jun 18--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Thanks for the congratulations everyone!! I am really excited about being officially signed up!!

Well, this morning I got out of the house early and put in 6 miles, which is the farthest I have run in years. Turned out really good. I finished in 1hr 0min 13sec!! Go me!! :cheer2: The sports beans helped alot, and I pulled out my mp3 player for the last 15-20 minutes, and didn't struggle at all!! Well.... gotta run again. DH needs me to come to the old house and help him with some stuff, but I just had to stop in and let everyone know how good my run went!!

Take Care,
Dana

Hi everyone!

Gee, sorry I've been MIA this week. Wanted to stop in and say HI :wave2: .

Rhonda: Still thinking about you. :grouphug: Hope you are doing okay.

Paul: How is your father? Thinking of you too!!! :grouphug:

Dave: Glad the water running is going well. So sorry to hear about all the pain you've been in. Hang in there...still PLENTY of time before marathon training officially starts!!!! Don't give up on the dream!!!!! :goodvibes

Dana: Awesome 6 mile run! You were cookin' :moped: speedy!

Jackie: GREAT run today!!! Wow! So proud of you :).

So last night was the Summer Solstice 5 Mile Trail Race. Wow....what an amazing experience. Truly one of the most physically exhausting and difficult things I've EVER done (at least until the marathon LOL). I ran with a group of 8 women (woo hoo for girl power). Many of them said it was harder than childbirth :rotfl: . Have to say that I wouldn't go quite that far....but it was pretty darn hard. Trail racing is a grueling endeavor. I know Mel can attest to this...but what a learning experience for me! Unlike road racing, all your concentration needs to be on the trail....there are logs, rocks, branches, streams, snakes (eek)...you name it. So the things that we normally concentrate on during a run (breathing, form and pace) take a backseat to survival LOL. Lots and lots of people fell....several came across the finish line bleeding!! Most of us finished muddy and dirty! Fortunately I didn't get injured nor did I fall....however there were moments when we were running down steep mountain biking trails that were covered in stones and wet leaves...when I thought that all it would take is one wrong step and I'd be done for!!! When your legs already feel like jello....you don't trust yourself as much either. We had to scramble up stones and grab trees to help pull us up the steeper embankments. It was honestly challenging...at times painful....and yet one of the most remarkable things I've done. I didn't quite hit my goal of finishing under 50 minutes...but I'm still proud to say that I finished the race in 50:56 which is just a bit over a 10 mpm. Would I do it again? You betcha....but I think I'll recover a little bit from this one first :teeth: . In the fall there is an 8 mile trail race in the same state park. I've heard that one is brutal....so yeah...I'll probably do it!!!

Earlier in the week I took off a few days due to some minor foot pain. Seems it's feeling much better...started tying my sneakers differently and that relieved a lot of the pressure I was feeling! I ran 6 miles on Sat, 4 miles on Tues and did KBX on Mon. So overall...not a bad week of exercise...should have done a bit more XT. But with the foot...wasn't sure that lots of KBX made a bunch of sense until it felt better! Next week I should be back on track. Think I'll do a nice and easy run tomorrow to loosen the legs up from the race yesterday. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Amy-Great job on the race! I cant imagine having to concentrate so much on foot placement so I didnt twist my ankle. Great time too!

Dave-thanks for the encouragement! I am 90% sure i am going to start this adventure. Hey, I"ve come this far, why not go all the way :dance3:

Jodi- great basket ! You could go into business for sure :thumbsup2

Colleen-thanks for the encouragement too! I really want to be there with you guys (and get that Mickey medal of course :teeth: )

Jackie- you're right, dont add on too much too soon! That's the surest way to get injured. Great pace

Christa- :cheer2: for possibly going to WDW marathon!

Anne-I haven't pulled up the course yet, I need to do that. Can't wait to see you there!

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:
Hi Christa :wave2: I forgot you were on HHI. I wondered where you were. I think of you when I'm popping my Motrin. Didn't you make the comment that you never take anything for your pain - that you actually like that feeling? Yeah, uuuum, I'm not going that route. Oh BTW, that would be so COOOOOL if you can do the WDW Full! :cool1: I hope it works out for you to be there! I just checked the website - Goofy is full, Full Marathon is 55% capacity - just sign up now!
Oh Dave, normal running pain is one thing, but really being hurt PAIN is so another. I really don't take pain meds though....I had a bad reaction once to them and I do have very high pain tolerance (sp? :confused3 ). I'm into the natural stuff...I know, weird! And thanks for the WDW info. I really need to sign up.

Melissa - So cool on your bike! Pink is so AWESOME! :Pinkbounc

Jodi - cool basket! I understand missing things b/c of work! It is a bummer! :guilty:
