Wk of Jun 18--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Oh Paul, of course there is enough pixie dust left. Tehere's always more than enought to go around. I will most certainly add your dad to my prayer.

Sunny - :grouphug: I wish there was more I could do fo ryou. I cannot believe that all of this has happened to you!!!

Now, I'm making a rule. No more team members or their families are allowed to get hurt or sick or be hospitalized! Understood? If anyone tries to tell you otherwise, you set them straight!!!!

PS - Please do not think the above rant should keep you from sharing these things with us. ;) I just don't want to see any more team mebers hurting. :goodvibes

Sunny[/B] - I keep hoping for a post from you that says things are much better. I was thinking of you this morning. You are very inspirational. I remember the things you've told me about how far you've come. That means a lot to me. It keeps me going sometimes. :flower3: Now, its your turn to remember how far you've come. And if this is a couple of steps back, well, then so be it. You'll just come out of this raring to go and make up for lost time! I have faith in you!

Thank you so much, Judy :cloud9:

One thing I think I will gain from this experience is an attitude adjustment. I was getting so caught up in speed and distance and more and more... Which is kind of funny because I will never truly have speed! I may seem fast to some people here, but I was/am and never will be a race placer, so what was the obsession for speed anyway? I highly doubt I will ever do mega leg presses again. And I'm actually ok with that. I have a new appeciation for how fragile a spine really is. I want a strong body, but I don't believe I will ever have the need to move 600lbs with my legs so why chance my spine?

One of the hardest things that has come out of this was a statement Dx made (totally innocently). He said to me, "you may just have to accept that you aren't getting any younger, you're 42 and maybe you just can't be doing all this stuff anymore". UGHHHHHHHH Once again I must quote John Locke from Lost:

Don't tell me what I can't do

I do hope to get back to weight-lifting, but just not as a crazed lunatic :rotfl2: And I hope to do something positive with this experience. I have my little website "living lively" that is supposed to encourage people to get active. Now I have a new understanding of how challenging that simple statement is for someone in chronic pain. I hope I can find a way to give tips for people to "live lively" even with chronic pain. I haven't figure it out for myself yet, so I won't be spewing any advice just yet ;)

I now realize I've been taking so much for GRANITE! Yes, Judy, that one's for you :lmao: You gave me a hard time last time I mis-used that word for granted!!!!!!!

OK, so I am diligently making the painful pilgrimage into work each day... Can you guestimate how much work I'm getting done :rotfl: Maybe I better sign off for a bit...

Sunny

Judy - The official 1st week of training for the full will start August 21 for those of us who start our weeks on Monday. (FYI - That will be ahppy birthday to me, ha, ha) Training for the half is 16 weeks out, so that will put you around September 11. Hmmm.... That day still gives me chills.

Sunny - I like hearing what the new you will be doing. I hope you can start doing the less than crazy workouts soon!

Rhonda – I am so sorry for your loss. Please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers :grouphug:

Judy – Thanks for asking your such a sweetie :goodvibes I’ve been so down lately that I haven’t been willing to even consider just putting in the steps. Thanks to everyone that reminded me that just getting out and walking is the way to start. I’m going to start small and see how it goes.

Jodi – My birthday is the same day as your anniversary :yay:

Cam – Wow what a list! I’m impressed! I made a list for our May trip and still forgot a bunch of things. I’m going to “steal” that list if you don’t mind :confused3

Maggie – Yep that’s me unfortunately. I was misdiagnosed a couple times with a variety of things until I finally found a specialist that did an MRI and found the disk. I still have bad days but rest has helped it quite a bit.

Paul – :wizard: is heading your way! It is always so hard when anything involves our parents.

Sunny – Oh sweetie I am so sorry you are still in pain. I hope you get relief soon :wizard:

Rhonda, I'm so sorry to hear about your Dad....my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. God bless.

Paul, I will certainly keep your Dad in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

My mother is 86 and we lost my Dad back in 1968, so every moment I spend with her is blessing. Heck, she may even go to WDW w/me for the marathon...she won't be participating, but she'll be cheering us on! :thumbsup2

Monte - I think you should get your mom a scream team t-shirt!!!!

Judy - she knows not to buck when the boy is w/ us!!!! His bike is attached to the back and she knows that she is not going off road or being wild at all!!! If she bucked w/ the boy, Id throw her out in a heartbeat!!! I got some cool pics of our biking adventure. I'll post when i get home. i think the bronc may be in one of them so you can get a good look at her. :-)

Sunny - I totally agree w/ judy about how much of an inspiration you ARE! I think your ideas about moderation sound so healthy. I'm still thinking about you and I'm so sorry that you are still in pain :guilty:

I don't have a lot of time to post because I am "Supposed" to be working. Last night I wanted to do some indoor cross training at home. I found my old Tae Bo video and started doing it. My girls came in to see me and started laughing because I looked funny. My oldest (5 1/2) asked me if I was trying to get strong since I was punching.

Tonight is my run with the group. I think we are increasing distance and that concerns me since the group runs faster than I am used to. I wogged on Tuesday and my ankles ached. Maybe I am just having an off week because my motivation is lacking.

So I am going to sign up for the 5K next week. I will wog it with the hopes of doing better than my last one.

 Hellloooooo everyone...I'm baaaccckkk!!

It has been a loooonnngggg six weeks. I slept through most of it, though! After the Minnie, I had a bruised bone in my foot that had me off of it for 2 weeks. When it didn't get any better, I got put into a walking cast (PM'd Kathy/NYcpa right away!! :listen: ). The day after that I came down with some kidney ailment that now has me going to a specialist, but which caused me to sleep, sleep, and more sleep for three weeks! Fortunately, I'm in a place in my life where I can do that. I would get up, hobble to the computer, go to the Disboard to read what everyone was posting, and go back to bed! Praying for everyone was about the only thing I was good for. My goodness, we are a wounded group right now! But... THIS, TOO, SHALL PASS!! ::yes::

I was finally out of the walking cast and timidly trying to "put the steps in" because we are counting down to DL! This past Saturday I was ready for my LW..I was so excited!! I hustled out of bed at the crack of dawn (I had put all of my gear/clothes in the bathroom so I wouldn't disturb DH), got my fuel belt on and out the door for my 5 minute warm up. Got the Garmin going, then noticed it was locked up. Oh, well, I'll do without..I've got to get this LW in!! I didn't push for time, just took it easy...At about 1 1/2 miles, I started feeling nauseous and then I threw up..four times!!!! Never have I done that. Ahhhh...but then I realized..in my haste to get out the door..I hadn't eaten anything!!! Good grief!

Dave Remember in MfM, they laughed at the way the Penguin ran and told him he wouldn't be a runner.
Sunny, Paul, Rhonda, Mike pixiedust: :grouphug: pixiedust: :grouphug: pixiedust: :grouphug: pixiedust: :grouphug: pixiedust: :grouphug:
Judy Your new siggie is too cool!! :thumbsup2
Monte Fantastic job on your 10K!!!
Minnie You can do it!! :flower3:

I just WISH I could say something to each and every one of you. All of you were/are such an inspiration to read. It really was the highlight of my day to see what was going on with all of you..new houses, planning surprises, Hines eating socks (!), bucking broncos, training..whatever!!

I came across this quote from Teddy Roosevelt, "The credit goes to the man (or woman!) who is actually in the arena...who strives valiantly...and who, at the worst, if he fails at least fails while daring greatly, so that his/her place shall never be with those cold and timid souls who know neither victory nor defeat."

:tiptoe: Anne

Rhonda - as my DD8 says, "my heart hurts" for you. :grouphug:

Paul: sending a prayer your way.

Been kind of lazy. Did a mile on Saturday before it started raining too hard. Did 2.5 today. Have Fishers Freedom Festival 5k on Saturday. Hoping that when my socks get here it will help motivate me. Keep moving forward....

Jodi--Oct. 29 is my parent's anniversary! They are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year. That basket looks amazing. I would LOVE to get into the event planning business, but I don't even know where to start. Too bad you don't live closer! :goodvibes

Wow - I hope I can get to 40 Years :goodvibes

Thanks for the great compliment on the basket -- I too would love to start an event planning business, but like you I really don't know how to even begin.

Well, if you ever decide to move CT let me know :goodvibes It great being in between NY and MA :goodvibes .

Anne- Good to "see" you again. I hope you are doing better & can't wait to see you in DL :cool1: Your enthusiasam (sp?) is contagious! Love the quote!

I did my 2 miles today 14:18 pace. Got up at 5:30 so I could wake up & get it done before DH went to work. This afternoon I realize it was supposed to be an off day.....oh well :rolleyes1 I could have slept longer!!

Krista-Our VBS theme is fun, its "Fiesta" so we are decorating for one big Mexican party. Can you tell the decorating is my favorite part. We have most of the church done, but we can't touch the sanctuary or narthex until after services on Sunday. Needless to say I'll be up there late Sunday

Sunny- Thanks for the info on the sale!

Rhonda...:grouphug: I'll be keeping your family in my thoughts.

Paul...so sorry to hear about your father as well. Good thoughts and wishes to you.

Rhonda - :grouphug: for you and your family. You have my deepest sympathy.

Paul - Best wishes for your Dad's recovery. :grouphug:

Terri

I think can join a lot of WISH team subgroups ;)

Please sign me up for the "Being Injured is Driving Me  " group. I did manage to keep the tape on my foot for almost as long as I was supposed to, but not being able to train is freakin' me out. I'm thinking I'd rather be running hurt than sitting around healing. I've been doing some research online on PF so as to thoroughly annoy the podiatrist with the articles I've found...and the alternatives to the $450 orthotics. The foot is better and worse...as long as I take the ibuprofen three times a day, it's better...when it starts to wear off, the pain is worse than before :confused3 I see the pod tomorrow, so we'll see what he has to say...probably something along the lines of how PAs make horrible patients :teeth:

I'd also like to join the October anniversary club...mine's the 31st and will be 9 years this year

Lots of stuff going on at work lately. We used to share space with an allergist who moved out this week. I've taken over her office and have a black desk and purple chair (to match my ASICS ;) ) With those colors, the best decorating scheme I could come up with was....Disney villains. But I didn't find any posters I liked on ebay, so I ordered a Sorceror of the Seas Mickey poster and a Main Street Electrical Parade poster (I really miss that parade)! I'll take a picture to show y'all as soon as I get it together!

Sounds like a plan to me! :teeth:

Paul - I will absolutely keep you and your father in my prayers. I know how very hard the uncertainty can be and I hope you all have a better idea of the situation very soon.

Again, thank you all for the kind thoughts - I just don't have the words to fully express how much it means to me and my family.

Hugs to all of you - especially those struggling with personal pain or the pain of a loved one!!

My father went in for some abdominal surgery last week, and it was expected that he would only be in the hospital for a day or two for recovery. There were some complications, and the surgery took longer than expected. As such, his recovery is taking longer than expected and he is not making progress. Last I spoke with him, he still could not eat or drink anything. He is now going back for more surgery this morning. For me, the worst part is the uncertainty of what will happen next. If we have any pixie dust left (we've been going through it a lot lately) I could use some my way. Thanks.

Paul
Paul More PD :wizard: :wizard: for your father. I hope he recovers from his latest surgery and starts back to the road to health. I wish you all the best in this difficult time.

Rhonda - I am so sorry for your loss, please know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Paul - Sending as much pixiedust: as I can your direction for your father, and his speedy recovery.

I haven't been able to post much lately, but did want to stop in and give an update. I have been running 3 miles on Mon, Wed, and Fri. Then I'm doing my long run on Saturday. So far I am up to 5 miles, but I have a 6 miler scheduled for tomorrow. I just tried those Jeely Belly Sports Beans, they taste pretty darn good. I took them before my 3 miler this morning since I don't eat breakfast, and I seriously didn't feel that I ran out of energy like I usually do. I am going to try them again with my long run tomorrow though. Well, gotta run. I'll try to check back in tomorrow and let you guys know how the 6 miler went and check on everyone else's runs.

Take Care,
Dana

"O" I forgot to mention.I am officially registered for the Disney Marathon!!! Did the registration on Wednesday. DH made me do it saying that it would keep me from backing out!!
