I did manage to keep the tape on my foot for almost as long as I was supposed to, but not being able to train is freakin' me out. I'm thinking I'd rather be running hurt than sitting around healing.

Don't give into the temptation, Mel!!!! I know exactly how you feel. So many times I've been at the Y and thought "I'm already in so much pain, what does it matter" and nearly done the bad thing. But we know long term health is so much more important than short term "wanna run NOW" syndrome! Keep the faith :)

Ann :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for you, too!

Jen-- When I do TaeBo my 6yo makes a game of running under my leg when its at the high point of a kick. He gets hunched down, all ready and then lunges at the right time. Of course I don't condone such behavior, but I'm so busy trying to keep up I can't take the time to stop him! My 16yo strongly admonishes me to make sure the curtains are closed! :rotfl2: She's afraid her friends might drive by and see her mom looking like a lunatic :rotfl:

MelR-- looking forward to the pics :thumbsup2

Sunny

Ann - Thanks for checking in. :wizard: :wizard:

Dana - Woo hoo! tehre's no turnign back now!!!

OK, I did a 3 mile walk last night in a decent pace. I had a total brain failure and must have reverted back to my dumb teen days. Got this new pair of sandals that are super comfy. So, I decided to walk in those. (My feet just love every second they have in sandals in teh summer) Well, note to everyone. AN hour in the house is not enough to break in sandals for a 3 mile walk. I detroyed my feet and coudl just kick myself!!! Hoping that a rest day today will help them recover for my Saturday run, but I did a pretty good job on them. WIll someody please come knock some sense into me?

Happy weekend everyone!!!

This is Judith Anne today....ZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz........I had three hours of sleep last night. My mare was colicky and I had to have the vet come at 8:30pm, and then I had to check on her every two hours. This morning she is fine, but I really miss my beauty sleep.

However, I DID train! :thumbsup2 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1% then 4 min running @ 4.5 @ 1%. Quite frankly, I'm amazed I did it. I would have much rather just gone back to sleep.

Sunny - Thanks for the chuckle this morning..."granite". I hope you are feeling better today. :goodvibes

Carrie - I agree with you about "that date" still giving me chills too. OK I have my calendar marked to start really training and until then I will continue to press on. :thumbsup2

Minnie - Start with baby steps! I am a big fan of starting off slooooow. I think - depending on the weather - that Sunday I am going to my first trail ride since my knee surgery. I can't believe I am nervous about this. I have been riding since I was 5! :confused3

Mel - How'd the ride on the Bronc go with the boy yesterday? I trust she behaved.... :teeth:

Anne - YAY! I'm so happy to see you here! Oh my goodness what you have been thru! You forgot to eat? What's that mean? I don't understand. Ha ha ha! :rotfl: I don't think I ever forgot to eat in my life! Ohhh I really like that quote!

Mel - Oh no! Ouch! Maybe it just needs time to heal...or heel....ha ha ha! :lmao: Hey, I only had three hours of sleep. That's the best I could do. A pathetic attempt to cheer you up, I know. I LOVE your decorating idea! Villains! :maleficen Cool! And purple and black. Excellent choices!

Paul - How's your dad today? :wizard:

Dana - YAY! :cheer2: I'll add you to the list!

Carrie - Sounds like somebody needs a good foot massage and pampering.... :rolleyes1

Dave - You might have said somewhere before but I keep having Senior Moments, but are you training mostly on pavement or do you use the TM, or both? I don't know why I was thinking about this today but I was wondering if doing some training on a TM might be easier on your shins. Just a thought.... :confused3

OK, this is Judith Anne pretending to work, but actually napping..... :surfweb:

"O" I forgot to mention.I am officially registered for the Disney Marathon!!! Did the registration on Wednesday. DH made me do it saying that it would keep me from backing out!!
Whoo hooo! :cool1: congratulations Dana!!! Welcome aboard officially! Sounds like your training is going really well too!

Oh Carrie!!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: Here's some PD :wizard: :wizard: for your torn up sandle feet!

Judy Good for you! :thumbsup2 I'm really impressed at your walking on 3 hours of sleep. That's dedication! Good question about the pavement vs. treadmill. In fact, I had been doing all of my running on the roads, and that's when my shins started bothering me. When I was on the treadmill from Jan--> March I was fine. Of course, I was also doing less mileage and lower speeds too. I told myself I'm going to keep my water running up until the 4th of July. That will give me a solid 4 week break since the 5k where the shin pain really ramped up. When I start running outside again, I'm going to start on the track. Nice, cushy, surface...

Lots of stuff going on at work lately. We used to share space with an allergist who moved out this week. I've taken over her office and have a black desk and purple chair (to match my ASICS ;) ) With those colors, the best decorating scheme I could come up with was....Disney villains. But I didn't find any posters I liked on ebay, so I ordered a Sorceror of the Seas Mickey poster and a Main Street Electrical Parade poster (I really miss that parade)! I'll take a picture to show y'all as soon as I get it together!

On my last trip I brought home two pictures one for my house and the other for my Mickey office at work. They all think I'm a little :goofy: with my love of ::MickeyMo though.

I'm a new runner and a WDW fan. New to this thread, lovin all the great advice. Yesterday I registered for the WDW full, a 10K in July and a half in August. Thanks for the encouragement!

Oh Carrie! You sound like my DH. He sometimes stops at the forest preserve on his way home from work to walk. One day he stopped, then realized that he didn't have his shoes in the car. So what did he do?? He walked 6 miles in his steel toed shoes. And then he wondered why his feet hurt :confused3 Gosh, what do you think?? I hope that your feet make a quick recovery!!

I can understand believe me :grouphug: . I am sure you will have a great time!!! I'd take one that you know has a tendency to be calm and have a nice fun ride instead of a schooling ride. Have fun I'll be thinking of you :goodvibes

Carrie - :wizard: that you heal quickly!

Since we're talking sandals....

Any advice on a good pair to use at WDW. I'm now 14 days from WDW :Pinkbounc

My Nike sandals I used in May left blisters so I need something else. I have very narrow feel so that is a problem

Welcome Sonya!!!! Dive right in and let us know how you're doing!!! Do you have a training plan?

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. I don't deserve it, though.

Judy - I was hoping to squeeze in a pedicure this weekend, but my feet are so bad that even a massage or a soak in the ped tub doesn't sound good. :sad2:

Pat - I at least knew better than to complain. Then again, I was too proud to stop when they hurt too.

Anyone have an answer for Minnie? When I ordered my current foot-wreckers ;) , I also ordred some Ecco sandals that looked very comfy for park walking from SIerra. Well, they arrived as Men's loafers adn SIerra sold out of my size in teh meantime. :guilty:

o.k. I'm getting real close to signing up for the full  ~this is what I think I am

Cam-are you just aiming for a 15 min pace so you can finish comfortably? Where are you staying? What are we thinking?! How are you incorporating the DL 1/2 into the WDW full training? Taking a week off & then hop back into the appropriate week? Will we survive? Will we want to take turns slapping each other en route for signing up for this in the first place ? Are you going to train by yourself since Howard runs? Thats a long way for me to go during training without running my mouth. AGH, so much going thru my mind right now.

Welcome Sonya! This is a great group with loads of support & we cant wait to learn more about you :welcome:

Dana-congrats on signing up for the full & yes, those jelly beans are very good. Not sure if they help me or not but I sure dont mind eating them either way.

Paul- :wizard:

Mel- now I'm sure as a PA you know better than to train when injured, right? I know how frustrating it is but we dont want you permanently out of the game now do we.....

Colleen-Are you bringing your family in Jan? I know your DH wasn't wanting to come again but you need them to see how "Goofy" you are , right. I think if I need my family to come. This is too big a deal for me (and probably a once in a lifetime thing) for them not to be a part of.

Have a great weekend everyone!

If you did the Minnie and are doing DL...just wanted to send out this reminder. For DL corral placement you can use the Minnie race results print out OR a copy of your certificate. I know it says if you think you'll do a sub 2:15 :rotfl2: you are REQUIRED to submit one, but you can still submit the Minnie results for a better placement, right? I know when I registered, I put 3:30, and I may take that long! But with my Minnie results, I'll get that edge on the sweepers! Here's the address:
2006 Disneyland® Half Marathon
P.O. Box 536485
Orlando, FL 32853

Carrie, Carrie, Carrie... :sad2: ouch, ooowww, ouch:tiptoe: pixiedust:
Minnie Sorry, no fashion statement advice from me. I'm strictly my walking shoes in the park. ;)
Judy I'm telling you...it was the aliens!! :darth: Just like the ones who got YOU to still do your TM on 3 hours of sleep....WOW!!!
Sonya :welcome: Make sure you check out some of the running sites on the first page of this thread. They are a real help, as is everyone here! :thumbsup2
Dave Went back to the podiatrist yesterday. He told me to stick with the treadmill instead of the streets until I heal as there is more give on the TM. So, that's a good plan you have going. See? even on 3 hours of sleep Dr. Judy can steer you in the right direction! :goodvibes
Helen :rolleyes1 hope you're practicing! Every time a song from "Grease" comes on I crack up thinking of you at DL!! :rotfl:

And, Tiffj, Krista, and Christy...I'm memorizing the course!! :drive: (When I first saw this guy, I thought he was a bartender!!..couldn't figure out where he fit in... :rotfl2: )

Have a great weekend everyone with your LW's..Jen, don't you have a 5K?

Hi Tiff, no my family won't be there in January. I will be going solo this year. I don't blame you wanting your family there for your first marathon. It was really great seeing my family along the course.

Good luck with your decision. For what it's worth, I did all my training runs solo, well with my MP3 player. It really helped me get through those 16, 18 and 20 mile runs.

Oh and one more thing... you CAN do this! :cheer2:

Colleen

Hey everyone! I am back from HHI and had a GREAT time! :cool1: I got to bike and run every morning and LOVED it! Will post pics as soon as DH puts them on the computer.
Anywho...
GREAT NEWS!
I may get to do the WDW marathon! :Pinkbounc My BIL wants to do it with DH and me. Is it still open? I will only do the marathon and not the Goofy this year, :guilty: but that will work best b/c of the other events I am planning on doing. I am still so excited! I may try it for time this year. :thumbsup2

Just a quick post here - I did 3 miles on the threadmill last night. :thumbsup2

Also, wanted to share another basket that I did for my neice (for graduation).

This is the ballon that Stitch is holding:
66087balloon.JPG

I get to drop it out tomorrow -- I felt so bad, I didn't get to make her graduation (because of work). I'm getting to the point where I feel like I am missing everything.

I will catch up on posts tomorrow, I'm beat I did a lot of shopping for the basket after work tonight.

Jodi-- your baskets are beautiful! No wonder people think they are pro. You could earn a second income!!!!!

Welcome, Sonya-- you'll have a blast here!

Sunny - you must stay up as late as we do!

Friday was my b/day (36yo) Phil got me a pink single speed bike frame which he gave to me early. we came home from vacation today and i spent the day finishing building it up. That was my first bike to build. I am taking it by the bike shop tomorrow to have them tighten a few things up that i can't do myself and i still have some issues w/ the chainline, but overall, i'm pretty proud of it. (Lynn, it is the bianchi p.u.s.s, w/ a surly fork.) it looks pretty sweet. When I get our vacation pics up I'll post one of the bike too!

Dave - I got the socks today. They are awesome! I'll wear them alot this summer. I'm excited about trying the sockguy stuff out anyway. I may use a pair in one of my adventure races b/c it would make me think of you guys (hopefully that won't cause another bike crash!)

Judy - The bronc treated me and the boy just fine. She did have some shifting issues due to the weight of pulling the boy and i took her in for some lovin'. Hopefully she'll come back better than new.

Good Morning Team: :surfweb:

No outdoor running for me yet - did 30 min of deep water running yesterday. Saw my orthopaedist and PT this week. Orthopod still does not think I have a stress fracture due to the fact I can hop up and down on my heel with no pain. He upped the dose of ibuprofen I've been taken - I'm now taking 4-200mg pills (800mg) 3x/day. I do the ice massage 2-3x/day too. I told my PT my plan to not run at all until after the 4th of July - just do the aqua running. He thought that was a good plan, then we did some more exercises and stim and ice. I'm going to try to do a long aqua run today of 60 min.

Mel - I forgot to reply to you. Yes, keep yourself taped up and off your feet. Let yourself heal do you can train properly for the marathon. You need to sit here on injured reserve with me. I already decided not to enter the Empire State Games Master's 10k in order to heal properly.

:welcome: Sonya - Good to have you here. This group is really wonderful and is the main reason I've kept up with my training since January. Congrats on signing up for the WDW Full. :thumbsup2 Hope to see you there in January. Want any of the official team socks? ;)

Tiffany - Good luck in making your decision to sign up for the full. I'll be right there to cheer you on when you sign up. About socks for kids...
TiffJ said:
The kids liked them too & wanted to know if I could order them some in kids sizes :)
Unfortunately, we didn't order any kids sizes (not sure if SockGuy even has them), but if we ordered a different size now we'd have to order another 120 pairs. My DD8 princess: has worn the s/m socks from SockGuy. They're a little big on her, but she doesn't seem to mind. Let me know if you want to try some of the s/m for the kids.

Hi Anne :wave2: Good to hear from you. You keep on keepin' on on the treadmill. Right now even walking irritates my shin so I need to stick with the pool before I could even do the treadmill.

Hi Christa :wave2: I forgot you were on HHI. I wondered where you were. I think of you when I'm popping my Motrin. Didn't you make the comment that you never take anything for your pain - that you actually like that feeling? Yeah, uuuum, I'm not going that route. Oh BTW, that would be so COOOOOL if you can do the WDW Full! :cool1: I hope it works out for you to be there! I just checked the website - Goofy is full, Full Marathon is 55% capacity - just sign up now!

Hi Jodi :wave2: Your baskets look great. Keep on chugging away on the treadmill. Do you run exclusively on the treadmill? I thought you had an outside route too.

Sunny - Just sending some PD :wizard: :wizard: your way for your back. :tinker: :tinker: I think your back deserves the full Tink treatment. Hang in there you athlete you. See, everyone here still believes you're an athlete!

:bday: MelR :cake: party: Cool b-day present. Have fun with your new bike. Now I'll reveal my ignorance. Will you ride the single speed bike to race, or is that a ride around town bike with the boy? Glad you like the socks. I wore mine for the first time yesterday. I liked seeing them when I was at the PT office. It made me remember why I'm trying to stick with this and work through this shin pain.

Paul – How’s your dad?

Rhonda – Hope everyone in the family is hanging in there. More :grouphug: for everyone! This is the tough time.

Dana – Congratulations on signing up!

Minnie – I have really narrow feet too. I’ve never worn anything but running/walking shoes in the park. I don’t dare try sandals, no matter how comfy they are in the real world.

Carrie – I can only imagine how bad your feet feel. I wore my favorite really-broken-in sandals to walk the mall in DC last weekend and was still pretty unhappy when we got back to the car. New ones would have killed me.

Sonya – Welcome! You really dive right in there!

Pat – I can’t believe DH wore steel-toed shoes!

Viking – Where are you???? Have you been swallowed up by World Cup?

I just got back from a very satisfying 3.75 mile run. Stretched really good afterward, and decided to ice the shins just to be safe (forgot to do that until I read Dave’s post – thanks, Dave!) The first 3 miles were 11:41, 11:34, and 12:17, the last ¾ mile took 13:45! Needless to say, I died at the end of 3 miles. But it was still the best time I’ve ever run, even in either of my whole 2 5Ks, so I’m feeling improvement. DH is scouring the web trying to find another race for me to run, but I’m not feeling a real need to race right now. My goal is to arrive at my cousin’s wedding on July 23 looking fitter and lighter than I have since DD was born 15 years ago! I felt really good at the end of 3.75 and could have gone more, but remembered the last time I decided to do more miles than I'm used to and decided to stop. (That's when I hurt my shins and couldn't run for 2 months...) I deliberately chose the park with the 1/2 mile loop so I could increase slightly but not too much. I keep having to remind myself that I'm not training for the half or full like everyone else here so I don't need to do the same miles! Next year...

Have a great weekend!

Jackie

Ran the Fishers Freedom Festival 5k this morning.* It starts at 8:00 so it is always hot by the time we get going, making it much harder.* It wasn’t as crowded as the last time.** But this is more a fun run, so always lots of*kids, strollers & dogs. They finally started at 8:09.

<side note: My Dad was my Track coach in High School. However, I always hated running, but did it for him. My Senior year, I asked
him if he would be mad at me if I dropped out. Yep, I hated it that much. He said, no because he really wanted me to do what made me happy. I didn’t run another step for about 20 years. So when I started up again a few years ago, he got a big chuckle when I told him I had signed up for my first 5k. 3 half marathons and many miles later, we still laugh about me becoming a runner now that my mind is willing & my body isn’t. But no matter if it’s a race or just putting in the miles, I always hear him in my head coaching me along.>

With that background, this is how my run this morning went:*Mile 1* average 11:23* Coach was in my head telling me to go out easy.* Save a little, you got more than a mile to run. Mile 2* average 10:55 Coach told me I ran that one too fast.* But it was under the shade and I got in a groove.* It kind of flew by before I knew it. Mile 3* average 11:29 * Yep, heat caught up with me.* Coach had to keep telling me that the course doesn't get any shorter if you stop.* You still have to finish & they don't move it to you - you have to go get it. Last .10** average 8:32 * Coach reminded me not to kick to early.* But had enough energy left to really "SPRINT" over the finish.* Overall 34:40 minutes / average 11:09* Wow, the old girl is getting faster. I wish I could keep that pace for my distance runs.* Keep moving forward & have a great weekend!
