Wk of July 8--WISH Walking/Running Club

I was able to get out last night. Around 6:15 the heat index was almost 104 :scared1: and I don't think it cooled off too much an hour and a half later when I was out. I did go 4.5 miles and finally felt good at the end. I think I had positive splits each time but I will blame that on the heat. My overall pace was 11:11. Now I have to go back and see how I was doing last year to see if there is any improvement.

I am hoping for cooler days ahead but don't think that will happen until maybe December or possibly January.

Bill

6 Months right now I will be on board a flight bound for MCO and Marathon weekend!!!!!!:woohoo: :yay:

Not much to report rest day yesterday. I have a 5K on tap for tonight but might do the TM as with the humidex we are about 42.....HOT HOT HOT.

Have a great day all.

Kim

BelleMA - Glad you made it! Welcome to WISH team!!! lol about the allarm. Saturday is my only day to sleep in. Getting up early to run either to beat the heat or get on to teh to do list for the day hit me hard too. Now, Saturdays just don't feel right without my run. You'll get there!

Mandy - Way to go on putting those steps in! You'll get there!

Sunny - :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your test drive. LIly's right. It's sooo good to see you here again!

Christa - No, there shall be no lurking for you! ;)

Heather -Sorry I missed that you hurt your ankle. :wizard: Hope it's better soon!

Lily - Yay! So glad teh pod fixed you!!!!!

Kim - Hot adn humid's the word here to. Scott and I postponed last night's run, but it's still looking like a pool run for me.

Bill - I cannot imagine how hot and humid you are. Great job getting out there!

Meghan - The Penguin says to take 3 days off and give it a whirl. If it still hurts, take another 3 off. If it still hurts after that, go to the doc. Sounds liek your body may just need a rest if everything hurts. Or, if you're favoring one part, that can throw many others off. Be carful adn listen when your body screams, or even just gives you subtle hints.

Kelley - Good luck Saturday! You will feel so great when it's done!!! I really miss having "longest ever" runs.

Shirt Orders - For those of you who have not seen teh thread, it's up. There's a link in my sig. Orders will be taken until July 27. I will e-mail PayPal Invoices after that and payment will be due August 10.

Morning team. Supposed to be getting a 3 miler in this am, but we'll see. I'm babysitting last minute for a friend of mine this morning. The guy I trained with for the Little Rock marathon had a bike accident this weekend, and he and his wife are headed to the ortho. this morning. I feel so bad for him, he dislocated his shoulder (biked stopped in some mud, but he didn't) and has a hairline fracture in the arm as well. He's in the middle of training for the Florida Ironman this fall, and is all bummed that he might have to sit out training for 6 weeks.

carrie--thanks for heading up the shirt order once again. I have to email you a change in our order though--I got so excited ordering last ngith, that I didn't order the right thing!

bellema--Welcome!

meghan--PD that your pain resolves soon. I second Carrie's suggestion of taking 3 days off and then seeing how you feel.

mainstmandy--great job getting the steps in!

bill--Can't imagine that heat!:scared1: We've had the most bizarre summer of rain--got 4 inches yesterday--I guess I should just be glad that it's not in the 100s here

lily--glad to hear the pod. was able to get things back on the right track!

jackie--glad to hear that you got over the stonker and had a great run. Can't imagine being out in that heat--it was in the 80s when I finished on Sunday and I was dying!

All-righty, gotta run and get the kids dressed! Have a great Tuesday all!

Good morning TEAM!!!!! For the first time in a long time I experienced "treadmill nirvana" last night. I think I could have run on the TM all night. Between old shoes, new shoes, readjusting to my inserts in the new shoes, my legs have felt great for the first time in about a month. I did 4 miles in 43:15 ended up doing 7/1 with running at 10:31 and walking at 13:05. I normally do intervals of 4/1 or 5/1, but last night I decided to run the entire length of one song and however long that particular song was, I would do all of my intervals at that time frame. Lucky me got a long song right off the bat!! :rotfl: Tonight I have 3 miles, that's not going to happen until about 11:00, thankfully we have a TM at home. Oh, and I was so sad for Hines last night, he was laying down but when he saw me get my running shoes, he started running around and jumping in circles--he thought we were going for a run outside. I would have loved to take him for a run, but we were under a heat advisory last night--it was HOT!!!! Hopefully it will cool off soon so he can run with me again. (To the newbies, Hines is my dog. There's been some confusion over that in the past. :) )

BelleMA--Welcome!!!!! Congratulations on signing up for the half!

Christa--:wizard: for your daughter!!!! Being allergic to cats isn't so bad (I am), but corn?? Ouch! Hopefully you'll get some more conclusive test results.

Amanda--Great job getting the steps in! Remember to take it slow!

Meghan--I agree with Carrie (again! :thumbsup2 ), take 3 days off to give your body some rest. I've battled my IT band in the past, my pain always starts up in the quad and then works it's way down to my "knee" (since it's on the outer part, it's not really your knee that hurts). How old are your running shoes? That and ramping up too many miles or running at too fast of a pace is what usually sets mine off. Oh, and hills aggravates mine too. Didn't you say that you live in a hilly neighborhood?

Heather--:wizard: for your ankle!!!!

Jackie--I am so glad that you had such a good run last night. Must have been something in the water. ;)

Lily--I am so glad that your foot is feeling better! I hate going to the doctor too and will only go if I'm "dying".

Judy--Hope you are doing okay today!! Hurry up and post so we can laugh at your drug induced writing. :)

Mel--How is your PF today?

Carrie--I hate that you are so busy now and don't have much time to post anymore. We miss you!!!!

SW Dave--:wave2:

I better get off here and start working, the summer's are SO crazy here. It's funny how people want sno kones and cotton candy when it's 100 degrees out. :)

OK..No lurking! THis WISH team is the BEST!:grouphug:

Krista - I understand about the dog wanting to run...Zoe goes CRAZY if I put on my running shoes.
WTG on the run!

BelleMA - :welcome: WTG on doing the 1/2!

Meghan, Heather, Lily, Judy, Mel, and anyone else with pain - :grouphug: and lots of:wizard: :wizard: !

Mandy - :welcome: and WTG on getting those steps in!

WWDave - Sorry you had to cut the walk short but WTG on getting out there! And Erica, hope the rub gets better soon! Been there, done that!:wizard:

Bill - YES the heat slows me down too! Very frustrating! Great run though! And in such HOT conditions!:worship:

Jackie - :worship: For getting out there in the heat! You are my hero!

Stephanie - WTG on all your runs! I WISH we could meet this year at WDW, but alas, I will not be there!:sad1:

Kelly - :wizard: :wizard: for Saturday! 17 miles! WOW!:yay: You will do great!

I did 5 miles yesterday in 44 min. I think that is around an 8:48 MPM. Did not bring my watch so you ask, how do you know how fast you were going? I had my Ipod and it tells how long each song was and I did 12 songs...just added up the time....maybe not really accurate (SP?) but around that time.
QUESTION
Did I run fast enough to be considered a real runner....but wait, I was on an indoor track (100 laps = 5 miles) and was listening to my Ipod.:rotfl:
Doing another group ride this Sat...60 miles! I LOVE riding!

Hi everyone!

I managed to get in 3 miles yesterday evening, just after the sun went down. It was still around 93 degrees. I ran without my Garmin this time, I know the distance almost to the foot by now. I felt free not to worry about my time, pace, etc. It is funny though, I ran the whole thing probably around a 10 minute pace in the 93 degree and high humidity. Earlier in the week, I had to walk it (shin splints) in relatively better temperatures in the morning.

So, write me down and give me credit for 3 miles under harsh running conditions. It sounds like I am not the only one getting in the miles in the heat. :3dglasses Hydrate ! Hydrate ! Hydrate !

Happy training!

:grouphug:

Morning folks! Wow, it is only Tuesday and I have to catch up with the thread already... I'm feeling pretty good post race. My legs are more tired and sore today than they were yesterday, but it isn't too bad walking around. I went to yoga last night (maybe that is why they hurt more) and loved the class. There were only 3 of us so we got to try some more intense poses, like a half headstand. It was great. Tonight is boot camp nutrition night so more rest for the legs. I'll probably hit yoga again tomorrow, then my first workout will be my first boot camp session on Thursday.

Monica and Martha - Congratulations on completing the Leadville Heavy Half Marathon! Wow, that sounded absolutely intense. :worship:
Kristi - Sorry to hear you weren't happy with your 5K this weekend. You are recovering from strep though, so don't be too hard on yourself! Great job for doing the race, rather than being a DNS.
Mike - I was happy with my time on the half this weekend. Being my first I didn't really have a time goal, but figured I would finish around 2.5 hours, so to come in just ahead was great! I'd love to get to around 2:15 on my next half, but with all those hills in San Francisco that may be tricky...
Darcey - Congrats on finishing your first du!
Shan - Congrats on completing your first 10K, that is awesome! Have a blast in Vegas! The Venetian and Cirque - sounds like a fabulous trip.
Dana - Great 8 miler!
Laurie - Yay for new shoes! Sorry you weren't feeling so great on the run though.
Mel/B] - I hope those feet and ankles start to feel better. Try not to get burnt out, or get too down. Hopefully you'll have fun at CDC hanging out with all your WISH buddies!
Becky - Awesome pace on your 6 miler! Are you getting excited about the Disneyland half?
Howard - 3 miles in that heat? Good job on getting out there!
Terri - Good to see you on here. How are your ankles doing?
Renee - WTG on getting a couple of runs in on your trip. So sorry to hear about the theft and the computer virus though!! I sympathise with you on running 26.2 miles. When we hit the point on the race this weekend where the halfers branched off from the fulls, I was so glad I wasn't running 26.2. But I'm sure with training I'll get there, since I used to say that about 13.1!
Lily - Glad to hear things went well at the podiatrist!
Judy - Hope things went well for you yesterday!:wizard:
Mandy - Welcome back! Good for you for making the committment for 2009. You'll definitely be able to do it.
Lynnda - Hopefully you find some answers at the running store..!!
Kim - It sounds as though your training is going really well. WTG!! Stay cool out there in ON. Thank goodness it is not nearly as hot here...
Dave and Erica - Good luck on your 8 today!
Angie - 6.2, great job! Don't worry about pace, it will come later. Endurance first!
Heather - Ouch, how's that ankle? Did you get your 3 in last night?
Krista - TM nirvana?? Wow, congratulations! Thanks for the kudos. I have completed quite a few 10Ks and 5K in the past, but always thought anything longer was out of reach. It felt great to do the first half, and the entire time I kept thinking to myself how thanks to my training, it was so doable and not intimidating. Then I sit back and think that I ran for over 2 hours...crazy!
Sunny - WTG on your 9 miles! Good luck on your test drive..!
Cam - I am walking around with a beaming smile on my face! I definitely think 8 hours of outlet shopping qualifies as XT! Good job on the elliptical.
Meghan - Ouch! It sounds like you could use a few days rest. Hope you start to feel better.
Jackie - 90 deg and 70% humidity? That's dedication, way to go!
Cindy - What a speedy 10 miler!!
Belle - Welcome to the thread!
Bill - Wow, great run!
Stephanie - PD for your friend and good luck getting your 3 miles in!

OK, must work now...

Greetings -

I'm on day two of sitting on my butt and already I am totally bored! :upsidedow

Surgery went very well. I was home by 1:30pm. I felt great yesterday but today I am so sore. My foot is all swollen and the incision hurts like heck. I'm on RICE and Tylenol.

Charlie has been wonderful, taking care of the girls and me. And in all this heat too! He's the best!:cloud9:

I got three miles in yesterday morning before I went to the hospital. The problem was it was so hot and I couldn't have any liquids after midnight the night before. I was so dehydrated! I've been making up for it since I got home.

Well, I miss training like crazy already. I'm going to take this R&R time to work up my Half and ToT training schedules.

Thank you very very much for all the prayers and PD and good wishes. I think they worked! :thumbsup2

Morning Everyone!

Thank you for the kind welcomes, and feel free to call me Elizabeth. I realized I forgot to give you my name when I was introducing myself. Sorry! It's great to find a group of people that are just as excited about running as I am.

I got more practice at waking up early today. The forecast is calling for 90+ temps, and even at 8:00 it was already getting humid. I went down to the track near my house today and worked on some speed work. I ran 2.5 miles total. It ended up being more of a challenge then I'd anticipated. We had some intense rain yesterday, and the track had a few big puddles and some muddy spots. I came close to tripping once, but I ended up doing fine. I know speed training is important, but I enjoy my longer, slower ones more! Now that I have marathon weekend to look forward too, I've found that I'm more excited about getting all my workouts in. It's like looking forward to Nationals when I was dancing. I know that I have to put a lot of work in, but crossing the finish line in January will be an amazing accomplishment, and will make it all worth it!

Hey everyone. Still working on reading everyone's post and learning your names.

But I had to share my success for the day. I went to the gym and did 2 miles on the TM. I had a pace of 14:26!!! I know it was only two miles but I was so excited that I accomplished what I set out to do...now if I can only keep it up!!

have a great day everyone and stay cool!!

Thanks for all the positive thoughts! This morning I woke up sore, but not in intense pain. I am going to rest until at least Friday afternoon and then evaluate from there. I am supposed to do my LR on Friday because I am headed out of town this weekend. On Friday I will decide if I should go ahead with the LR, do a shorter run, or forget the whole thing. I am just really nervous about being ready for Chicago if I don’t get the miles in now.

Things are strangely quiet at work, so I think I have time to catch up with a few people around here!

Shan – congrats on your 10K!

Mel – I don’t have any great advice for you, but I will offer to hang in the back of the pack with you at the CDC if you really, really slow down from your current pace.

Martha – I read your race report and I am so impressed that you finished. That sounds like a tough course!

Leana – I also read your race report. That was an amazing time and I am even more impressed because it was your first ½.

Okay, so I just had a student drop it to see me. I’ll have to catch up with the rest of the posts later.

Welcome Elizabeth & Mandy, and anyone else that's newly posting! You'll love it here!

Martha & Monica- I was thinking about you guys this weekend! I enjoyed the race reports. It sounds like a really "heavy" marathon with all those hills!

Leana- Great job on the Calgary Half. I enjoyed the pics!

Craig- I hope it goes well for you in Boulder. I saw a shirt for the Bolder Boulder that I like, since I train at altitude (9300'). It said "Sea level is for sissies."

:pixiedust: for all the injuries, surgeries!

Judy- was it you that wanted to know about the Brooks Adrenaline 7? I've been using mine and having no trouble at all. They seem pretty similar to the 6's.

Training news:
Thursday- 5.5 miles w/DD on bike for 2.5
Friday- Rest
Saturday- XT at Rocky Mountain National Park- we did about 1 mile hiking at 12,000 ft above sea level!
Sunday- Off
Monday- 4.4 miles, speed work
Today- 4.3 miles w/DD on bike for 2 miles

Okay, I know I'm supposed to walk against traffic, and I think when you bike you should go with traffic, right? Well, when I'm walking & my DD is biking with me, which side of the road should we be on? We're on a dirt, country road, but I don't want to give the drivers two targets to aim for, I'd like us to be on the same side. Any suggestions?

Oh, and as I walked to the house Thursday, I had an escort. Two dogs from where I started walked all the way with me back to my house. The good news: they scared off any bears/mountain lions that may be lurking, so I felt more comfortable & secure. Bad news: All the people that passed me no doubt thought that "my" dogs were not very well behaved. I'm thinking of getting a shirt that says- they're NOT my dogs! (hidden Clouseau reference :)

I saw the article about the runner/train accident. I just can't understand what happened. I know many will blame the listening to music, but I know that I'm very careful even when I cross the road, I would be checking so many times before I crossed a railroad tracks.

Whoever mentioned Shaq's Big Challenge- my cashier at the supermarket mentioned it to me last week, so I tivoed it. I think it's interesting that they're trying to get PE to be mandatory again in schools. I didn't know it wasn't (I homeschool my kids). I think that if they do make it mandatory, they should do some retooling to PE, so that they can make fitness appealing to everyone, esp the kids who really are needing to see that fitness can be fun. I think even on the show, they aren't really doing that. (so far) I know that I didn't enjoy PE at all!

Good morning TEAM!!!!! For the first time in a long time I experienced "treadmill nirvana" last night. I think I could have run on the TM all night. Between old shoes, new shoes, readjusting to my inserts in the new shoes, my legs have felt great for the first time in about a month.

Yeah, Krista!!!!

Judy-- Sending you mucho :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your sore foot.

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: For everyone else experiencing pain.

I did 4.5 miles today and it felt like 10:confused: Oh well, I got some steps in. I'm trying to hold an 8mile LR base until WDW '08 training starts. I'm slipping...

Sunny

Sunny- It is so good to see you posting again.

I just have time for a quick drive by post. I got outside last night and did walk/run intervals for 3 miles. The heat and humidity were not that bad after the sun started to go down. I had to keep reminding myself about the Bingham article after I got passed on the path by a toy poodle and a miniature schnauzer. Yes, even tiny dogs can run faster than me. :rotfl:

Thanks Sunny!! :cheer2: :cheer2: I thought about you last night while on the TM, as you are the queen of treadmill nirvana. princess: I have to agree with everyone else, I am so glad that you are back posting again, I won't speak for everyone (although I'm sure it's true for them too), but I know I have missed you!!!! :wizard: for your spinal cord!

stacey--Love the Clouseau reference--my dad got me hooked on the Pink Panther movies as a kid--no one was as good as Peter Sellers! I'm such a geek that I own the box set!

Krista--glad the TM workout was so great!

Judy--glad to hear that the surgery went well :wizard: PD for speedy recovery!:wizard:

Well, I got my 3 miles in this am. I only ended up having to babysit for an hour or so. I feel so bad for my old running partner--he's been working out 6 days a week, with some days 2 w/o a day--and now b/c of his accident he's not able to do anything right now. He's got all this pent up frustration and his wife is taking the brunt of it. She called me today and wondered what to do. I told her to let him be mad and work through it. Just too bad.

Good for you for getting your WO in. Will your friend still get to do the Fl IronMan? Lotts of :wizard: :wizard: for him...and his wife!

Where is Melissa???

OK I am posting my WO even though I thought about not posting it b/c it was so BAAAAAD!
1st mistake was going out at 1300! It was so hot outside that my shoes were sticking to the pavement...so I rethought my goals...so I would not die!
Here it is (don't laugh):
Run: 1.1 miles in 9:27
BIke: 2.595 miles in 11:31
Run: 1.1 miles in 10:42
Bike: 2.762 miles in 14.34
I did not push at all but quit b/c I started getting a headache. I just reread my RW from Aug 2006. It talked about overheating so I am a little paranoid right now.

Stephanie--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your friend!!!!!! And :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for his wife!!!!!!!!!

Christa--Sorry you had a bad wo!!

Okay, I really need to get some work done now!
