Wk of July 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

Warning: Drive-by post... :car:

Got my steps in this morning before it got too hot out there. Was out the door by 6:30am, and did 8.17 miles in ~1:20 min/9:51 mpm. It seemed a little on the slow side, but hey I'll take it. I think I need to get back to doing some of that speedwork.

I'll be back to check in later.

Good morning,

Just checking in to say that day 2 of my new walking routine (i.e. walking at 6am) is working out splendidly. The temperature is so much better.

Last Sunday - walked home from work 3.5miles
Monday - rest
Tuesday - 30 min walk in am, 1 hr yoga class last night
Wed - 3.2 mile walk

Have a great day,
Maggie

Leana: I have to start reading everyone's posts a little more carefully. I thought Maggie was your DAUGHTER......was wondering why she had a diet of grass, dirt, old socks! I'm just a little slow.....but sending best wishes for your pet's recovery anyhow.

Jackie: Have you actually signed up for the WDW events yet? The clock is certainly ticking. I know what you mean about wanting Disney to be your "first"........I'm one of those marathon "virgins" also.....maybe we need to run with a little Mickey bridal veil?

Please yell at me, everyone......bad, bad week as far as training goes....life is interfering big time. (Getting off the computer would probably help!)

Morning, team!

I got up and got out for a 35 minute run followed by sprints. That was the plan, but by the time I'd run 35 minutes my brain was on autopilot and I kept on going, for some reason heading for 40 minutes. I finally woke up at 38:30 so I walked a few minutes then got my sprints done.

Now the plan is to make some chocolate chip cookies and head over to the hospital to sit with my friend while her DH has a brain tumor removed today. Suddenly all those huge problems in my life seem pretty darn petty!

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Greetings Racing Team -

I need to find something to do for the next three weeks of idleness. Now that my stitches are out and everything is all closed up (Umm, ewww!) I can swim I guess. My dad has a gorgeous pool at his condo's five minutes away and we have his pool pass, so maybe tonight since it's so incredibly hot here.

In the meantime I live vicariously thru all of you. ;)

Leana - Oh no, I hope Maggie is OK. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: That's some scary news.

Jeanne - OMG! :rotfl2: Yes, Leana's daughter is eating grass and socks. I'm sorry but HA HA HA HA! That was funny!

Steve - I'm so happy to see you here. Don't go AWOL on us, because, as SWDave will tell you....we'll find you. :rolleyes1

Do any of our WISH pharmacists have an opinion on Nalfon? :confused3 My podiatrist gave it to me to help get the swelling and inflammation down in my foot. I read all the side effects and I'm just sitting here waiting for something bad to happen to me. I shouldn't read that stuff.

Renee - Prayers and :wizard: for your friend's DH. I hope all goes well.

Jeanne - She feels like my daughter, but no, she is of the canine variety! Too funny!

Renee, thanks for mentioning your friend again. I was going to go back through the posts to try and find when he was due for surgery. You're being a blessing!:wizard: for him!
Dave, Great job! A :car: post is better than no post!:thumbsup2
jeanneg, here's your booty kick:cool1:
Beth, Five miles on the TM AND an hour strength training?? WOW!! :dance3:
ohMom, Oh, MOM!!! You told everyone else how to save money!! Sorry you missed out! Hmmm, there's a thought:scratchin ..I could DNF instead of DNS!
Lisa Loves Pooh/Lisa, so good to have you back! pixiedust: Things will clear up soon.
Magslite/Maggie, Looking good with the plan!:thumbsup2
nucpharm29/Stephanie, Do you REALLY get rest days??:rotfl: You are one busy woman. Great job with your training! :goodvibes Anne

Hello all. I'm trying to be better about posting but I haven very little to report in the way of training. I have a cold that's settled into my chest making it hard to breath couple that with the humidity here and well I've been walking the past few days instead of running.

I've also been really distracted by the problems with my dog. (I see Leana has problems too, I think the WISH dogs need to catch a break here.) We're expecting the test results back today or tomorrow but the vet believes my dog has doggie lupus. If that's the case our next step won't be decided till we figure out how severe it is. They had to shave huge spots on his body to see his skin and my fluffy big dog now just looks so sad. My dad is keeping up hope that it's something not as bad as that but we'll see. He's barely a year and we've had him for less then a year so it's really hard to take this in a dog so young.

Leana-Our last dog had a tumor and while it was on his back not an internal thing it really did affect his disposition till it was removed. But they were able to remove it with no problem and he returned to his usual happy and healthy self. He also lived till he was 14 which was about 3 or 4 years past the normal life expectancy for a dog of his breed. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for sure.

Tomorrow I hope to have better news to report on the training front!

Gosh, Megan...so sorry!!pixiedust: for you both!

Hi Guys.

I swam yesterday -- and plan to walk later today. The dog is doing better at night and I'm hoping for early walking tomorrow.

Does anybody know when they will start putting out WDW specials for January -- I am hoping to get a good dining plan deal for our marathon trip.

Happy Training.

I am so sorry, here's hoping you can make it to the start of the CDC. It's a real bummer to get so close and have something flare up.

Lisa

Welcome back. This year you can get out there on the roads.

Magan

I am also sorry about the pooch. Here's hoping it isn't a severe situation. He has too many good years in front of him.

Red Dragon

Try, for god's sake try, to not let anything else break in my absence. I'll be home in 15 days. Is that too much to ask? Remember you have a date at 8 a.m. Sunday with the Boulder Road Runners. Bring your altitude adjustment magic pills.

My training is going well, and I'll leave it at that. I have come down, however, with some type of viral or bacterial infection in my throat, very very sore, and swollen glands, on one side only, really odd. I was at the med center 8 am monday and got a quick and 48 hour culture. The quick was negative, so I called at 8:30 this morning (48.5 hours after) for the results of the other. I'm told "they only read the cultures at 4 p.m. every day." Well EXCUSE ME, I hope my little infection doesn't inconvenience the lab people, who's job by the way is to process and read the cultures. If it's positive I will have gone 2.5 days without treatment waiting for these bozos.

Plus I went to the Fairview High track at 6 last night for some easy and some hard work. The infection didn't cooperate, as my legs felt heavy and awful in the easy warm up, and the intervals were dreadful. The last track meet of the season that I can make is tomorrow evening, and if I'm no better I'll have to pass on the mile, which will make me really crabby.

Best to all

Craig

Okay, this just had me :lmao: and :rotfl:

Have you heard about this morning's negative power episode, Craig?

Sending you pixiedust: for a quick recovery. Hopefully, it is a 48 hour bug that is just meandering its way along to its conclusion and you'll be feeling 100% tonight. pixiedust: and :goodvibes

Hi Guys.

Dona,

I don't know if last year is any indication, but the entire WDW resort was almost completely full for marathon weekend. I made the mistake of waiting for AP rates to come out before I booked our room, and they never did release any discounted rates. I guess the fact that the resort was booked might have something to do with that. :)

So long story short--don't hold your breath for good rates and discounts for that weekend. They may never come out.

Hope that helps!

Steve

Hello Cam

Yes, I was told the story of "the house with no power." It's all just an inconvenience until she went out to open the garage door and drive to work. I was told to visualize 2 ladies, both clever and lovely, without a clue how this works, except "in theory we can do this."

Ta Da, they managed to get it open and saved the day. I would love to receive a video of the process my 2 women went through before achieving success.

You and Howard did very well to get some work in on the cruise. It isn't that hard, but you need to cut out time to do it.

Enjoy the Adirondacks. Hopefully is will be cooler up there.

And between the 2 of us, I roared through a 10 miler here on Friday, biked and lifted on Saturday, and then ran my running partner into the ground on Sunday morning at the BRR 7 miler. I was feeling very self satisfied until this dumb infection grabbed me. Thanks for your positive waves, I would be terribly disappointed if I couldn't line up for the mile tomorrow evening.

take care
Craig

If it were any one other than you, I'd say you wore yourself out. But I know you are well-conditioned and certainly smarter than that, so we all KNOW it is just a nasty bug! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow night and hoping you are "on the line" when we are on the road (you are 2 hours behind us, right?)

BTW, how are you enjoying your teaching gigs? Any particulary bright and enthusiastic students in your class? I hope so, for your sake! :thumbsup2

Calcio: IT'S NOT MY FAULT!!! A telephone pole was knocked over (and DD did NOT do that) so we were without electricity from about 7:00 am today until 8:00 am ish. For once, the theory actually worked and the garage door opened. Remember, I don't think DD has lived in a house without an automatic garage door opener. She had NO clue what to do. At least I had the theory. However, she did know to not open the refrigerator! :lmao:

Cam: thanks for stickin' up for me!

Dona: happy to hear the dog is settling in and you're getting more sleep.

poppinspal: pixiedust: for the pooch! I hope he gets better soon. Remember, hair/fur grows back.

I did have a good workout last night. 2 miles of speed work then 10 min on elliptical and 10 min on spin bike. Sweatin' like a pig. Gotta mow the yard tonight. With my trainer tomorrow.

Enjoy the rest of your day everyone!

Dona: rumor has it that the DDP will be changing drastically effective Jan'08. There is lots of info regarding this on the Restaurants board.

Megan: hope both you and your dog recover quickly.

Look on the bright side. At least you didn't have to call Big Vic to get the name of his electrician. For what that electrician charged for a light switch, I am sure he would have no problem travelling your way to "fix" whatever electrical troubles may have existed.

Cam

You're confusing me with someone intelligent. Remember in January when you asked what I'd do in tomorrow's marathon and I said, "in spite of the killer heat and humidity I'll go out fast, blow up, and DNF." Well I got 2 out of the 3 right. Blowing up at mile 11 by the Teacups isn't a sign of intelligence. The sad part was once I recovered a bit and began to move again a little voice inside told me "you're toast and you have 15 miles to go, IDIOT." If the weather is the same on January 13, 2008, please remind me to run smarter.

I suspect I am a bit worn down. I've hit one of those stages where every run is a good one, long and easy, short and quick, it doesn't matter, all have been successful. On the rare occasions I'm getting consistent good results I push it harder, knowing I'm taking a risk, but I just cannot resist. My goal for this year was 10 by labor day, and I made that with 5 weeks to spare. I've always told you to build slow and not stress your body, but I appear to be incapable of taking my own advice. Do as I say, not as I do.

Yes, you are 2 hours ahead. The mile will probably come off at 7:30:00 tomorrow evening Boulder time. If it does, I hope to be done roughly at 7:37:12. But if my legs are still heavy that isn't going to happen.

My evening class is good, the students are a nice bunch, and 2 of the 19 are pretty extraordinary. I've found all evening MBA students are similar, bright and hard working, but since they are juggling work, family, whatever else, and school, they're not always as on top of things as I'd like. I know my buddy Howard can relate to juggling too many other things as well as class. I'm done in 2 weeks and am driving straight home. Apparently I am needed there.

Dragon-chick

Thanks for pointing out is wasn't my child who knocked down the telephone pole. I had forgotten about that incident when she was learning to drive and missed the pole on the hill by a millimeter. That's all we need, another claim on our auto insurance. By the way, how did you manage to get the garage door up??

Gotta love 22 year olds now. Manually lift a garage door? Never seen it, never done it, no idea. Dial a rotary phone? Are you kidding me? Adjust the antannae so you get better reception? That's so 1960's.

nepats73

Yes, I'm sure Vic's electrician would be glad to drive up from Florida and solve our problem. Parts, labor, travel time, travel expense, plus a big profit on top of all of that. By the end we'd be better off giving him the house.

Steve

Do you and Krista have your reservation booked for January? If you're not there I'll be very disappointed.

Best
Craig
