Wk of Jul 23--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Kevin - The wildman on the Segway not as interesting in person??? :rotfl2: :lmao: You do not do yourself justice. :goodvibes Maybe a smidgeon quiter in person, but most definietly not less interesting! BTW, I am gettign reports of low 80s on the lakeshore. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Cam - You're worried about Howard? The man who had surgery les than a week before the half? :teeth: Yeah, I htink I would be too, btu I think he's pretty strong and will do just fine. Feel free to tell him that I think he needs to hit thetraining very hard after DL, though. ;)

Krista! Can you remove that link? I look awful! I can't even believe that I could look that unhappy while in WDW! Sun must have been in my eyes. ;) Ughhh...Thanks for teh reminder that I need to work on teh weight thing. I do not want to look like that in Jan. again. :sad2:

MelR - Are you ffeing ok/ That does not sound like you! Maybe a little burt out? Can you squeesze that nap in and take it easy on your work outs? :wizard:

Karen - Congrats on your 5K! Thansk fro checking in with us!

Jen - :wizard: for your back and your EIA!!!

DAve - :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

OK, the talk of bags for used Gu brings back a memory. SCott was shocked that peopel would not use the trash cans for the race and just threw trash on th e ground. Now, I know tha treal runners don't waste time and such, but ther ewere lots of trash cans. Peopl back by me, though, are not going to kill teir time by going a second out of their way. Moday we walked from BW to MGM and wer ewere amazed at all the Gu tops that were still there. Am I just being a tree hugger? :confused3

Carrie--Anything for you! :thumbsup2 And don't even talk to me about losing weight, I've gained 5lb since January. I've really been counting my calories all week and I am SO hungry!!! :teeth:

In that case, and if you don't mind, maybe we can all help you with some suggestions. :teeth:

May I suggest that you start compiling stuff now, like hotel confirmations (ahem! :teeth: ) and park maps and put together a gift box where she has to open each item (in a specific order) which will represent your itinerary? We did this with our kids for a trip to Hilton Head Christmas week 2003 and they both remember to this day, opening fishing rods and going "huh?" and then new year's eve decorations and then the event schedule for the week we'd be there. They were blown away and I think the excitement built as they opened each gift/hint. It was soo much fun! If you decide to do this, let us know -- I'd bet between us all, we'd have park maps and other "hints" you could use.
I love the ideas and suggestions Cam for how to surprise DW and break the news about the WDW trip. I must admit I'm not quite ready to start thinking about that yet, and there are some issues with DW may not be quite so excited about going because we have to take the girls out of school and money issues. But I'm hoping I can work all those things out. I must admit right now I feel a little guilty planning a trip and not keeping her in the loop about it. I feel like I'm trying to get away with something.

Jodi--I'm not training for the Goofy, but Stephen (my husband, like Howard he is an occasional poster) is. He is using Hal Higdon's Intermediate II marathon program, here is the link if you want to look at it: http://www.halhigdon.com/marathon/inter2.html. Right now he runs 4-5 miles, 4 times a week. As for long runs, he runs Saturday and Sundays back to back, I think he is up to 6/12 or 7/14. Either way, I think he is pretty far ahead of the game, since his training doesn't start until Sept 4. Good luck finding the perfect training plan. :wizard:

Sunny--I am SO glad that you finally found a good doctor. Hopefully you are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel!

Judy--Welcome back!!! :joker: Glad that you survived! How funny that you said Italy looks like Epcot, I know I would say the same thing too! Oh, and I used the running belt for training and the half marathon. During the half I carried tissues (helpful for when the porta potties ran out of toilet paper), my cell phone, resort ID, chapstick and Power Bars. Once you get used to running or walking with it, you won't even realize it's there. And I do intervals too, for the half I did 4r/1w--hoping to do 10r/1w for the full, and I pretty much spend the entire run staring at my wrist. On the Garmin, you can set intervals, but I don't use that function--I can't hear the beeps over my mp3 player. :rockband:

Tiff--Happy early birthday! Sorry you are not looking forward to the day. Here's some :wizard: for the weekend!

Cam--I think I got luggage for my 18th birthday, I'll have to dig out pictures and look.

Melissa--Maybe you need to take a powder! (That's carnie lingo for taking a break--at the company I work for, we manufacture concession equipment and supplies, I can tell you some phrases that are doozies!!) I hope you got that nap in.

Dave--Stephen has an Aqua Belt. I make fun of him when he wears it. :rotfl2:

Thankfully the day is almost over, but I'm dreading the drive home. Even though my car is fixed and seems to be running fine, I am SO paranoid when I drive it. Tonight I have 3 miles planned, but I might up it to 4 knowing that marathon training is just around the corner and pretty soon these 3 mile runs aren't going to cut it.

See? That's why Stephen had to swim in your neighborhood pool.

"No, you're not mad at him... just pointing."

Dave -- I am looking forward to when you will be able to share your joy and the planning with DW. In the meantime, it sounds like your plans will be absolutely wonderfully tailored to your family! :cloud9:

Krista - That person totally stands out... gotta be a WISHER. Now who is it? Fess up!!!! You know, I was thinking today that since I am running alone, I might spot a bright green shirt ahead of me and have to sprint just to chat with someone. I will be the crazy person weaving in and out of the crowd looking for green shirts!!!

Cam - Forgot to respond about dd's gift. Digital camera? Jewelry? I got a leather jacket for mine. Still have oit as a matter of fact! :teeth:

Krista - OK, I'm am right there with you. (5 pounds, starting over watching intake) I've had an apple, a banana and a grapfruit for snacks today and so help me, I'm STARVED! I have to get it in gear, though, because come AUgust it will be even harder!

Jen - I had Stephen (Krista's dh), Helen, MelR, and Christa and I think one other who had a scrf from Trails End introduce themselves during the marathon. It was awesome! You won't look crazy to a fellow WISHer! ;)

WOW! What awesome birthday gift ideas -- Jenn has a digital camera (bought it for her for Christmas when we thought she was going to Europe this summer -- remember that saga?), but I am thinking the luggage or maybe sapphire post earrings (her birthstone AND blue is one of UDs colors) or the leather jacket would be very nice ideas.
Any others?

That's awsome! Talk about a shirt that stands out :smooth: Now, who's the WISHer??????

Thank you all for your kind words.

Judy, I meant to say I'm glad someone has finally straightened that tower out! I will make sure to specify I want the human not the thoroughbred when I make my apts. :rotfl2:

Solo-- good luck with your work deadline :wizard:

Jen - speaking of finding other wishers... Here is a pic from the 1/2 last yr. I also ran into lots of wishers on the full as well, but my camera didn't work!

Whew! My legs are tired, but I feel great! You guys would be so proud of me, I came home from work, walked straight upstairs, changed into running clothes and hit the treadmill. Hines was SO mad at me for leaving him in his crate!! I couldn't decide if I wanted to run 3.5 or 4 miles, so I decided to just run 40 minutes--since that's the first distance in John Bingham marathon training. Well, in my 40 minutes, I ran 3.6 miles--I was pretty pleased with that, I did 3/1, running at 10:42 and walking at 12:45, the last 10 minutes I ran at 10:30, walked 12:45 and then the last 5 minutes I did running only, running at 10:20. I can't tell you how great I feel, hopefully this excitement lasts for the next 6 months!! :goodvibes

Melissa--Did you get that nap in?? ;) Great pics by the way. I'm hoping to carry a camera in January, Stephen got me a new camera for my birthday and it is tiny, so I'm hoping it'll fit in my running pack.

Cam--I had another idea about what to get your daughter. It's nothing great, so it can't be her big present, or maybe your son can give it to her, but when my sister graduated high school, I gave her a laundry basket filled with wash clothes, towels, detergent, dryer sheets, and a roll of quarters. Like I said, it's nothing big, but it could be a "filler" present. Or maybe you can fill the laundry basket with new clothes? Hmmmm, I'll keep thinking.

Jen--Like it was mentioned, you won't be running the marathon totally alone, you'll be surrounded by 10,000 of your closest friends!! I ran the half by myself and it's not bad at all, it definitely gave me time to take everything in. And people around you will start conversations for the few minutes you are walking or running together, so the time and hopefully the miles will fly right by.

Speaking of Colleen, where is she?? And Christa?? Oh, dog catcher, you better to steppin'!! :dance3:

Well xt today was mowing the yard. I think it counts, almost 1/2 acre with a push mower that is not self propelled. And I was running pushing up the hill some of the time trying to beat the rain. Well, I didnt & finished up in the rain.

Thanks for all the sympathy for step-sis. I know Judy had it worse-trapped in a foreign country, sharing a house for 10 days & all. :teeth: But I'm still not happy about it. I cant wait to see my boys though. This will be our end of summer blow out trip. They start school next week. I cant believe Parker is going into 4th grade & my baby is starting kindergarten. I told Seth he didnt have to go (not required in AL ) and he could just go to 1st grade next year so he could stay home with mommy more. He said an instant, flat out NO. I know he'll have a blast. He's such a social creature & that is his element. It will be harder on mommy than anything :guilty:

Cam- I'm assuming she has a laptop for college? I think jewlery with her birthstone would be a wonderful idea. I love saphirres (and all types of jewelry)

MelR- I love seeing those pics! I love Cam holding onto her penguin. Colleen is still in Canada , I think, visiting her sis. (BTW that's me standing behind her with the blue jacket on) man I cant wait for the next marathon weekend to come! :woohoo:

Jen- no way fellow WISHers would think you crazy. We all love meeting one another! That's half the fun!

Krista-glad your car is fixed. I know what you mean about being paranoid. A few years ago a car ran a red light & t-boned me totally my van (luckily kids were at preschool) For the longest time I checked all traffic, all ways before going thru an intersection :moped:

Carrie-my first race it was really hard for me to just throw those cups on the ground. Even though there were several kids there cleaning them up , it just seemed wrong to me. I will throw them but if I'm going to walk right by a can anyway I put them in there. :thumbsup2

Since were going to Atlanta Friday I am pushing my 7 miler up to tomorrow. I have a ton to do tomorrow so I will have to hit the streets no later than 6:00 a.m. (I know thats sleeping in for Judy :rotfl: )

Hi everybody!

I only had time to skim the posts today. I'm beat! I got a workout in today without running or cross-training. I took 700 people to Dorney Park (an amusement park in Allentown, PA) for the day

Although I had staff supervising them, I was still responsible for them. Everybody had a great time and we didn't leave anybody there when the buses left.

Now I'm ready for bed! Will resume training tomorrow!

Absolutely not! Unless you are one of the dozen or so elite runner's who have no more than a couple of ounces of clothing on their person, you do have options for the GU wrappers-- pockets, fanny pack, etc. There is no excuse for throwing them on the ground. Those suckers are slippery for the other runners as well.

My uncle lives in Durango, CO, has all his life. Over the last couple of decades he has come to loath the cyclists who come seeking the thrilling mountain rides (sorry, MelR, Christa, Lynn and others) because they throw their Gu wrappers where ever they happen to use them. (I know none of our cyclists would do that, its the "one bad apple syndrome X 10000000")

It doesn't take a tree-hugger to know throwing sticky slippery foil on the ground just isn't a good idea!!!!!

Of course there are those of us who prefer to empty the contents of our Gu flasks INSIDE our fanny packs along the course but that's a different story... :joker:

OK, I'll get off my soap box now.

Sunny

PS I'm loving the "Hidden WISHers" ;) :cheer2:

Oh and MelR, its a shame you are so camera shy. It looks like you'd knock that guy down to get your photo in at the finish:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

I'm so mad I was about 90seconds late for the group photo!

You might be wondering what I'm doing up at 12:15Am on a week night... you see, I no longer have a schedule :surfweb:

Sunny

Hi Everyone,

Just a quickie for right now -- Last night I did 4 miles on the threadmill, I wanted to do another but it was getting late.

I will try and check in later -- Have a good day everyone,

Jodi

Good morning.
Boy, did I have a horrible walk this morning. 3.7 miles, 52:00 (14:03). My overall time was a little slower than usual (51:00), but that's not what made it bad. Just a real blah, yucky, I-wish-I-was-back-in-bed feeling.

Maybe it was the first day with new shoes.
Maybe it was skipping dinner last night. (Still full from Wednesday's HUGE lunch.)
Maybe it was sleeping poorly. (Wednesday's HUGE lunch just not sitting right.)
Maybe it was 92% humidity.
Maybe it was missing my kids (away at camp) and my DH (in Mexico for business till 8/9).

Whatever it was, I hope never have another walk like that again. Hated every minute of it. Pity party for the new girl, please.
