I took 700 people to Dorney Park (an amusement park in Allentown, PA) for the day

Terri

Dorney Park was the park we used to go to when I was a kid. I had a lot of fun times there. :yay:

IS the whole world out to get me? Sweet Krista offers to remove teh link and WHAM! It shows up again. :rotfl: :confused3 Must be a sign that I must stick to my new eating habits. Just be glad no one's close enough to catch my hunger crabbiness?

Why is it that an apple just does not seem to fill me up like a candy bar? :guilty:

Oh and MelR, its a shame you are so camera shy. It looks like you'd knock that guy down to get your photo in at the finish
That is so funny that you said that I look like I'd knock that guy down. I actually though (in my egocentric last few miles of a marathon stuper) that the man was high 5ing me (i didn't even see phil until I got right up there (shame on me!)

Kelley - I just realized that one day I'll have to send the boy off to camp and the thought is totally traumatic. I feel sympathy for your yuckie walk this am!

Going Mt. biking on the PUSS (for those of you who are new, that is the Pink Ugly Single Speed) today. I know I'll be doing lots of walking up hills as the trail has 2 huge climbs! Hopefully, there will be no crashing. All my bruises are finally healed! Phil, on the other hand, sprained his wrist really badly on an endo he took over the weekend. He had it x/rayed and it is not broken, but he did break his shifter on his bike and it too is recovering!

Krista - Way to go on that treadmill! You will hauling!

Kelley - Lesson learned from last year's 18-miler that wasn't. No skipping meals before a mornign run. I was proud of myself for eating very light when out with friends. Even with my pre-run eating ritual, I think the dinner-skipping did me in. Shake it off. If we didn't have bad runs, great waones would not seem so great. ;)

Wayyyy busy day. shoulhd not be here, but hard to resist. ;) Have a good one!

I'm getting ready to do a 10k w/a friend of mine...wish me luck!

I might have some bad news....DH is complaining and complaining about me going to WDW in Jan. He feels that the money that I've saved for WDW will put a burden on our retirement. He feels that Iam cheating our future by going to WDW, so now I'm not sure if I'll be going or not....the guilt is too much. I'll hold off til the last second before I cancel my reservations, but I have a feeling that I'm going to miss you guys in 2007. :guilty:

Hi guys...just checking in with my race report from last night.

Well...it was ridiculously hot....at 8 pm after the race was finished it was still 90 degrees in the city where we raced lol! The race itself was wonderful....nearly 2000 participants...GREAT shirts (the technical kind)....lots of bands....people cheering us all along the route standing outside their homes spraying us down with water!!! There were loads of tents and expo stuff. So overall I'm glad I did it...but boy it was my toughest race yet I think. I started off WAY WAY too fast lol....got too close to the front of the pack and just ran like crazy. Mile 2 was a lot of hill....so that's when the soreness and stiffness in my legs really started to bother me. By Mile 3 I had terrible side-stitches and stiff legs LOL. I took two walk breaks right near the end of the course and I know they cost me a good 30 seconds or more...I could have done a much faster time but my body just couldn't carry on!

So with all that said I finished in 28:42 for an avg. 9:15 mpm. That is still a personal best for me in racing....but I know I'm capable of running the 5K distance in 27:00 so I'm a little disappointed. It was a big step for me though because I went to this race alone...drove over an hour to get there....and just did it! That is a victory for me! :cheer2:

Hey everybody!! :cool1: I just signed up for my 5K next Saturday. I am excited, this is the first 5K I've done since last October. It's a women only 5K and 10K (no boys allowed!! :groom: ) and my Mom and I are doing it, we're trying to talk my younger sister into walking it, but I don't know if she will or not. I have a question for everyone, I start my marathon training on Aug 21 ( :scared1: :scared1: ) and my first long run is 5 miles. On Aug 26, there is a 5K that was actually the first 5K I ever ran last year, so I was really looking forward to doing it, but I'm supposed to do 5 miles that day. Do you think I should swap out one of tempo runs (40 min) and run 5 miles on like Wednesday and then on Saturday do the 5K or should I run 2 miles earlier or later in the day, to make my total for Saturday 5.1 miles? I'd rather run the 5 miles on Wednesday and do the 5K on Saturday, but what do you guys think?

Carrie--I think you look marvelous!!! :teeth: I know what you mean about being hungry, the nights are terrible for me!! I chew gum after dinner so I'm not tempted to snack. I think I'm going to hang a picture of myself from last fall on the refrigerator, I was so skinny then and since I was training for the half, I had some muscle tone. Anything for motivation!! :rotfl2:

Amy--Awesome job on your 5K!! You were really rockin'!! Don't be disappointed in your time, I would be ecstatic if I ran a 5K in less than 30 minutes.

Monte-- :guilty: we will miss you in January!! :wizard: that you win the lottery!! :teeth:

Mel--I forgot to tell you, Stephen and I are running the Race for the Taste 10K. We leave on Oct. 8, but our flight isn't until the late afternoon. I think the 10K is the last 6 miles of the marathon, I'm sure that will be HUGE in January. I told Stephen I was going to go through and take pics of the marathon course and then hang the pictures on a poster board for inspiration. He just shakes his head at me. :goodvibes:

Kelley--Forgive me for not welcoming you earlier!! I am slipping!! :welcome: Sorry that your walk wasn't great, but I agree with Carrie, eat in the morning even if you aren't hungry. I usually eat a banana and bagel or a granola bar 30-40 minutes before a run. You'll learn from trial and error what does and does not work. I learned that cereal does NOT work for me.

Denny--I need to ask your forgiveness too! :welcome:

Helen--I've been thinking about you. How have you been doing?

Sunny--It sounds like you need some company for the next month. Someone to stay with you during the day. I would be happy to oblige! :p

Things are kind of slow here, I'm sure I'll be back later today!

Good morning all!!

Well, I made everything in ahead of deadline.... small cheer for me: :cheer2:

Cam-- Please feel free to share my schedule with Howard. (You are doing Disneyland... really?!?! :teeth: ) One of my concerns with registering for Disneyland myself (or any fall race really) was that it would interrupt the flow of Goofy training. The taper before and rest after would pull me out of serious training for at least 5 weeks. I do feel like Goofy is a totally different thing than running the full... really uncharted territory for me.

Carrie-- Wildman on the Segway?! :rotfl: Only because I couldn't get the stupid thing to STOP!! :rolleyes1 And that reappearing pic isn't that bad..... but you look so.... angry! :furious: :teeth:

Amy-- Great job with the race. Sounds like the conditions made it no fun at all, but you did wonderfully. :thumbsup2

Yesterday I hit the gym after work and had a very solid lifting session and decided to run on the treadmill instead of brave the humidity. I did 2 miles in.... 15:45! :faint: That's 7:53/mile! :faint: I could hardly believe it!

This morning, I of course overslept and will try my best to get something in tonight.

Well, I am headed up north this evening for a weekend of golf. 54 holes in 3 days-- my shoulders hurt already. I should have no trouble getting runs in so long as the weather holds out. Catch you all on Sunday evening!!

Happy training all-- And Good Luck to everyone racing this weekend!!

Kevin :earsboy:

Today was a rest day so I have no training to report. popcorn::

Thank you all so much on the fanny/waist pack suggestions. I'll start shopping right away. Also, excellent suggestions as to what to put in them. I know I can always count on you guys for expert advice. :thumbsup2

Oh hey, guess I'd better get cracking on those intervals. I think I still have a LOT to learn.

Yesterday was an exciting day for us. We paid off our September WDW vacation! So now all that's left to do is pack! Now THIS is a vacation worth getting excited over! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :yay:

Dave - You are so in pirate mode! pirate: Eye, matey! I didn't realize you weren't supposed to be wogging on the bottom of the pool. I was running around in the 4' deep section. Well, it was still kind hard so hopefully I got some kind of training in. BTW, the ultradork comment........ :rotfl2: Thanks for that visual! It made my morning.

Kevin - In response to your training plan....... :worship: :worship: I am WAY impressed. You have a wild Segway story???? DO TELL! :rolleyes1

Cam - Wow, really nice ideas for gifts. You guys are such great parents. :goodvibes

Sunny - How you doin' today? I hope today is a better day for you. :upsidedow And when you see your doctor...ask him "Why so long in the face?" That's a really old, old horse joke. Hey, I didn't totally straighten out The Tower. Actually I think in 2001 they pushed it back 17". It REALLY leans now so I can't imagine what it was like before that. There were about two dozen people posing in the air like that, all having their picture taken. It was really pretty funny.

Melissa - Oh wow! What great pictures! Do we always take Team pictures like that? Ohh what fun! Thanks for the suggestion. I don't know that that fanny pack would work for me. See....You have no junk in your trunk. I have an abundance. I don't know that there is room back there for more. Hey be careful on the PUSS!

Krista - Good for you for going right back out. Didn't it feel great to get it done? And so fast too! :woohoo: You go girl! And make it up to Hines later. :dog:

Tiff - Guess I have a reputation around here for getting up early. HA HA! Well, today I slept until 5:30am! The day was half over! :teeth:

Kelley - But you DID it didn't you???? Hey, you get credit for that! :woohoo:

Monte - I hope your 10K went well! :shamrock: Oh no! Wait. Let's think. We can come up with some way to get you to WDW in Jan!

Amy - WOW! That is fabulous! I'm so proud of you! That's really great! Especially in that heat! :woohoo:

Helen - :wave2:

Good Morning everyone.
I have the day off of work since I have to travel tomorrow, so I thought that since I couldn't get in a LR tomorrow, I'd start today off with a LR. I got up with DW, thinking I'd hit the road when she left for work. When I left the house at 7:30am, the humidity almost knocked me over. I made a change in plans and drove to the Y instead to put my miles in on a TM.

Things felt pretty good, and after the dust settled, I put in 14 miles. This is the longest I've ever run. The last 1 and 1/2 miles were killers, and I noticed that I was developing a blister on my little toe, but I wanted to reach the 14 mile mark.

Question for the veterans: Another website advised to not wear cotton socks while running. I never heard this before. What type of socks should I wear?

Not that I'm a veteran or anything, but you need to wear moisture wicking socks. You can get these at Target (Champion brand), I think they are maybe $6 for 2 pairs--definitely the best $6 you will EVER spend!! You will not believe the difference. Seriously.

Is that you Carrie?? That is too funny. I always wonder how many other peoples pics I get into. And yes, candy bars are more filling... hmmmm!

Well, I took yesterday off and put icey hot on my back. Today it is still sore, but I haven't had to take aleve. Tonight is my running group and of course the temps are back up there. I am definately carrying a water bottle with me to help with my breathing. I don't go to the doc until next week, but if I ditch my running group too many times they may disown me.

Hi everyone! My name is Tracey and I am new. :wave2: I posted a couple days ago in the 2007 attendees thread that my husband and I will be running the 1/2...our very first race. Reading this thread, your dedication to training is such an inspiration to me! I am new to running and have a lot to learn about training, but today I got on my treadmill just to see what I could do. (It was raining, or I would have run outside as that is definitely more of a challenge for me.) I am a casual runner at best, having run just 2-3 times a week over the past couple of months for 20 to 30 minutes at a time. Today, I went 30 minutes and jogged the entire time, except for a 1 minute walk break at minute 22. My pedometer registered only 2.1 miles, which is roughly 15 min. mile. To be honest though, I have never used a pedometer before and I think I underestimated my stride. My biggest surprise was how tired I felt after just 30 minutes. I can't imagine that I am going to run approximately 6 times that amount of time come January!

Amy, wow, your 5k time was awesome! Not only your time, but the fact that you traveled an hour away to race alone. That is dedication and proves to me what we can do for ourselves when we set our mind to it. Good job!!

Kevin, my husband is on a long golf weekend too! He is doing 162 holes in 4 1/2 days up in Minnesota. Where in MI do you golf? I have a sister in TC and my husband loved the Bear when he golfed it several years back.

Sorry for the huge post! Just wanted to let you all know how great this thread has been to read!

Houstonmouse,
You don't need to worry about how far you can run, or how fast. The important thing is that you've started, and as long as you keep at it, the distances will go up, and the times will improve. The important aspect of pace and times is that it is only important how they compare to you, not against someone else's time or pace.

When I started, I was referred to a book called Marathoning for Mortals. It is an easy read, and gets your training to have direction. Another source is a website www.halhigdon.com. On this website, you can get a plan based on your goals, and where you are now.

Good luck, and keep up the hard work.

Congrats on your DD's scholarships. I work in athletics at a Division II school myself, so I understand the caliber of athlete it takes to get recruited.

Kevin,
Thanks for the comment. I had missed this earlier, and yes, I admit it, I am VERY proud of her. She's worked hard to overcome some obstacles , including the EIA. I hope it works out well for her. She's nervous to start. She's been conditioning on her own, and playing b-ball almost every day.

Tracey - Welcome!!!! DOn't look too far aahead. It sounds like you're doing fine. One week at a time. After you take a couple mileage jumps, you'll feel more confident that the plan will work! (You do have a plan, right?)

Denny - I prefer seemless too, along with wicking. I only glot blisters from running once last year and that was the marathon. The blisters were under my toenails, so I don't think it was the socks. I wear Feet-ures. You may want to see if Dave has extra WISH socks. :D

Krista - Have you done 5 yet? I would do 5 the week before you start and do the 5K teh next week./ If you've been going tha tfar already, I'd think you'll be fine. Plus, you'll likely push mnor with teh 5K anyway. As far as pics of the end. Go for it! That was the hardest part of the race!!! DH flailed there, as he had not studied the map and had no idea what was next. I got through by saying, "OK, get through the out & back and you're almost at MGM. There'll be fun stuff there. Get through MGM and you'll be at teh BW> There will be WISHers there to chher. ALmost to WS, then I'll be able to see the end. One foot in front of the other, I'll get there someday." I've already told some of the MInniers this, but I think tha twill help a lot!

Jen - Actually, I was saying hi to some firends from their group, so I was sort of "with" them. Obviously, I did not realize I was in the photo though. Ugh!

Kevin - :cheer2: Yay for your deadline. That golf should be some decent XT too!

Amy - COngrats on the 5K. My forecast is now up to 86 for sat. Color me very worried.

monte - :guilty: I'm sorry. Let me know if ther's anythign I can do to convince you dh it's ok. I just can't imagine that the cost of 1 trip could get you very far in your retirement. You staying in the castle bedchamber? ;)

Judy - Before Kevin was sure enough that I was not a psycho or anythign and introduced himself, I thought he was just some kid showing off. Zooming around, beign a rebel and not stayign in the line.... He *claims* he was having issues, but I know he was showing off. :teeth: However, he was not the one who ran into the wall in France! :rotfl: (Wasn't me or Helen either)

:rotfl: :rotfl: I DID however, run into the kid in front of me when we first got to World Showcase. I got the picture of me on one.... now never again.

Denny-- Wicking socks are a good investment for sure. They are usually double layered and prevent blisters. I bought mine from Roadrunner Sports-- pricey but they work great and are super-comfortable. My pleasure on the comment-- it does take significant work from everyone involved to earn scholarships-both academic and athletic. Maybe I'll see you up here for a game this season.

Tracey-- WELCOME!!! Sounds like your training is going great so far!! We are actually playing the Bear on Friday, the Chief at Boyne Mountain on Saturday and Gaylord CC on Sunday morning. I'm not much of a golfer (yet), so a round a day is plenty for me.... 162 holes in 4 1/2 days?!? Wow! I'm pretty new to it yet and very competitive by nature (and thus easily frustrated). I'd probably throw my clubs in the pond by the 80th holes if I were playing that many holes. :)

Kevin :earsboy:

Carrie - that is so funny about kevin on the segway. i thought you called him speedy b/c he was such a fast runner! maybe it is the segway and the fast running.

judy - the puss was good to me today. i tipped her over a few times, but her brakes are not as tight as the bronch so no flying over the handlebars. one time i fell b/c i was trying really hard to get up a hill and i didn't want to give up, so i just kept pedeling until i finally fell over. pretty pathetic huh? i would still really recommend looking at that fanny pack. it should work fine w/ junk and most importantly, it does not chaffe! I think cam got the strider (that is the other one i sent you.) I'm pretty much brand loyal on the ultimate direction waist packs. they are made for the very purpose you desire them!!

off to shower!! the trail i rode the puss on is multi use (lots of horse poo!) not good with knobby tread mt. bike tires :teeth:

Didn't hear that from me! :lmao: Now how could the clutziest person in the world have done better than you? You know the wone who fell taking a pic of teh 4-mile marker. ;) FYI - You could have stuck with the wildman story. I would have never told!
