Oh Cam...I'm so jealous! Weren't you just there???? :teeth: I'm glad you got DINGed till it worked. :thumbsup2
Yes. I know. It's disgustingly decadent. But, I tell myself I can do the whole trip for less than if I went up to NY for the weekend. How can I resist? And Jenn will never march in WDW again. Gotta seize the opportunity, you know?

But I was thinking when we are there in Sept that I might try to stake out some of the Half course and see what I am getting into. :smooth: I worry about this Contemporary hill I keep hearing about.

It's really not that bad. Don't psyche yourself out about it. You'll be so into the experience you'll barely notice that there is a hill.

Christa - At first I read biked 30 miles then ran 30 miles and thought wow she must have super powers! :rotfl:

Cam - Aren't those ding fares great. I am going to WDW in May (unfortunately the week before the Minnie) and we got fares for $44 each way with Ding. So exciting that you will get to see your son perform.

Today was a run day, I had my coat on to go, the phone rings, and DD school calls to say she is sick. So instead of scrapping the whole workout, which is what I would have done before I found the WISHers, I will do free weights at home, call this my cross training day and run tomorrow instead.

OMG...is that what I put? I meant 30 min.

Judy - don't be scared about that hill...is was fine during the 1/2 and full. Of course, WDW is NOT hilly compared to Charlotte. The hill around mile 19....is worse. But still not that bad!

Christa - nope you typed it correctly, I just read it wrong! :)

Maggie

Judy - my callouses are heinous!! My husband always says I should take a grinding wheel to them, but they're my friends! :) They stop me from getting blisters & such. Don't worry about that hill, it's nothing really.
BTW, thanks to you & Cam again for the WW info. I'm almost done with my first week & haven't had a hard time with it at all. 20 points a day is ok so far, & I've been CT @ the gym. I used a few flex points over the weekend (6 or 7), but still have plenty for the week. You guys were right, it's a very realistic plan. I'll let you know on Thurs (1 week mark) if I lost anything. I probably gained 5lbs. :rotfl:

Cam - WTG on the DING thing, aren't they awesome? W/O them I couldn't have signed up for MINNIE. Speaking of which, do we get cool medals or anything for finishing that?

:clown: Holy cow, this thing IS creepy!

Hello to all the newbies!! Stay tuned for all the support you'll need to accomplish whatever it is you set out to do!!

Well, decided to start running again a week from today. I'll give my knees 4 full weeks off. If they don't feel any better, to heck with it, I'll just ice them & all that happycrappy like I did while training for the 1/2. I've gotta get on the ball...are you sure MINNIE's only 14 weeks away?

Tiffj - what's your airport code? If I see a DING for you I'll PM you ASAP, kay?

Jodi - Hi  Glad to see someone else out there spells our name right :thumbsup2

Helen - YIKES!! The only thing I have to worry about when training is a decrepit poodle that lives down the road trying to bite my ankles as I run by.

Sunny - I break out in a sweat when I read about your training...keep up the good work.

Ugh, I gotta go do dishes! Ya'll gotta stop posting so much, I can't keep up!!

Jodi

Since you'all are wondering about swimming, I thought I would post a sample workout.
warm up- 6X75 w/ :20 rest
main set- 2X200 :20 rest
100 moderate :20 rest
2X200 :25
100 mod :25
2X300 :30
100 mod
cool down- 6X75(50 free, 25 back), :20
I ran out of time since I had to talk :) to the school's old cross country coach about where to run hill repeats around here. The hills I knew about are either too far away, too short for the repeat, or way too steep. He did have a good suggestion so I'll be trying it out on Weds. Anyway, I only did 4 of the 6 cool down 75s and I did it continuous with no rest. It took me 54 minutes to swim 2450 yds in this manner. I only started swimming after a couple year break after the WDW Marathon so this was my 7th session back in the water. It was a little disconcerting to be happy holding 3:40 for a 200 when I used to be able to hold 2:40. The stroke mechanics/efficiency will come back pretty quick but it will take quite a while to rebuild the upper body muscle mass I've lost by not using it. I know, Sunny, WL, right?

Sunny- WTG, you're going to turn into our regular speed demon

Cam- that's what APs are for; use it, use it, use it. I'm hoping for a Tampa DING since I got hosed on the airfare coming back from the St Anthony's race. Too bad I'm a mac user and can't set DING up.

Helen- I hear you about avoiding the open water swim. My training plan from my coach lists an open water swim every other week starting the 25th of Mar. Yeah, right. Admittingly, fresh water warms up quicker than the ocean(late summer temps in the 60s up here) but I really would prefer for the snow and ice to be completely off. I figure my real first open water swim of the year will occur on Apr 30th in Tampa Bay. BTW, we have sharks here too. I didn't know that until last fall when I was trying to get some military paperwork done and one of the SGTs had pictures of shark fishing in his office. It rather surprised me that they were taken just off shore up here.

Christa- yeah accountability. I do that too.

TiffJ- yes, swimming gets easier but you might be surprised at how much a few lessons can help. Getting out of breath doing a 50 is a sign of technique issues rather than your fitness level cuz you've got the cardio from running.

Judy- I didn't think any of the hills were bad either. But I also did almost all of my long runs on at least partially rolling terrain.

Paul- yep, sounds like you've got a plan to me. halhigdon.com has training plans for doing multiple marathons in a year that you might want to take a look at.

Dave- Get that grant proposal written! Right now! Yuck, that's why I'm in medical school and not a PhD. I had enough with doing my MS thesis. Good job keeping your family involved. BTW, just do it. Sign up for the race and make the commitment. It is amazingly motivating when you are flagging to know that you have x,y, or z coming.

Welcome to the new people! Fresh blood, yeah :thumbsup2

Keep working hard everyone and stay(or get) healthy.

Too bad I'm a mac user and can't set DING up.

Lynn - I already knew you were cool, but now you get a few more points in my book!!! We mac users have to stick together (and keep being nice to the pc users so they'll let us know about the DINGS!)

Hi everyone!

Okay the idiot has arrived, I'm hurting big time today. If I told my DR (which I won't be doing uhuh noway) I can just hear the "I told you so's" loud and clear. I see an MRI in my future as the cortizone doesn't seem to be kicking in :guilty:

I changed my local on the Ding to MCO and it still won't bring up STL for either late March or for the Minnie. It's like come on already! Patient person aren't I :rolleyes1

Minnie

Greetings all - just checking in. Did my 2 mile walk today at 14 min/mile pace. Felt really good, and was outside on the track. It was nearly 50 degrees here.

OK, I have a late night ahead of me finishing up this grant. :surfweb:

I will be checking in again later to read all the posts.

Had a fabulous 4 miles tonight and I don't know why :confused3 I think I finally feel comfortable with the 2 min running intervals. I've actually started running through them because I wasn't dying by the end. Soooo...I'm going to start stretching until I can work up to a W3/R3. Maybe I'll be doing R3/W2 in time for the Minnie! ::MinnieMo

:clown: Anyone see/read It by Stephen King? :scared:

Brenda...welcome

Paul...welcome back! How's Beckie?

Dona...welcome  I'd have to dig up the post from last year about when I told DH my big new plan to sign up for a half marathon  He made a less than supportive comment due to the shock of the whole idea :faint:

Dave...yikes! I don't envy you writing a grant proposal. I did one once and that was quite enough for me

Helen...I think a great white certainly qualifies as a good reason for not training for a tri :scared1: And it's an even better reason to come back to WDW for 2007...nothing with large teeth on the course :teeth:

Minnie... :wizard: for the pain. That's gotta be frustrating...you've been fighting this thing for awhile now.

Judy...Love the dremel imagery :lmao: Personally, it's my heels that are scary! I don't even remember Contemporary Hill so it must not have been that bad.

Pat...btw...I love your siggie picture!

I did try the Clif Blocks tonight...very tasty! Had one before the run and one after, so I'll definitely try them again for my 8 miles this weekend. I also bought myself a very attractive bright yellow reflective vest...my SR are usually half in the dark these days.

Just wanted to mention it was really cool being back at MK this past weekend and walking around saying, "I ran there...I ran there...that's where the train was waiting for us"...etc. Definitely brought back the memories.

Reading Heather's post made me wonder-- as a beginner, I will be starting out slow doing a run/walk. All I read says to skip days and I think even LisaLovesPooh mentioned that also. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to maybe ride my bike on days I don't run/walk. Or could I just walk on those off days? I have a bike that just needs the dust wiped off of it!

Cross training is a good option. As a beginner--you want to include 1 or 2 rest days (doesn't have to be back to back).

Even the pros take a rest day sometimes ;)

Stupid Garmin question - does anyone get tired of it on their wrist? Does it irritate your skin when you are running or when it is really hot outside? Just curious.

For me personally--I am just acclimated to it--so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. When I wore it for the very first time--it was a bit weird (larger than a wrist watch). But that faded quickly as I logged miles that day.

But Mel's DH and her DDs were at the finish with a beautiful running trophy. Her DH was very proud of her! :thumbsup2

Dona- Once your DH sees your commitment to training and a healthy lifestyle, I guarantee you that he will be 100% supportive.

I changed my home airport to MCO and am now hoping for a Ding fare from Houston. I would love to join you guys Minnie Weekend! Come on low fares! :cheer2:

I am so excited today, I finally convinced my DBF to do the 2007 full with me!! I am so excited, he is going to come with me to the gym tomorrow to start working out, I knew he would give in and say he would do it!!

Today was my rest day, so tomorrow I am back at it.....2.5 miles on the treadmill...I will let you know how it goes tomorrow!

Keep up the great work everyone!!

Yes, that's very true! I don't think that last post came out exactly as I had intended  I absolutely would not have been able to do the half without DH's support  . I think initially it was such an out-of-the blue idea...I had never run anywhere or wanted to run or do any kind of distance events until last year. I got a lot of weird reactions from friends and family when I announced my intentions.

It's been so hard to get back in the groove. I guess I'm suffering a bit of a letdown from the races. And why not? I spent the better part of a year working towards the Goofy and it was over all too soon. I just can't get motivated to do anything right now. I've got a stack of work on my desk and a book proposal to rewrite and just cannot get motivated. Ugh. Whine, whine, watch TV, whine some more, do everything I can think of to avoid working, surf the Dis, whine some more. Yep, that's me.

Hmm--that means you like running! :goodvibes

In MFM, Bingham talks about this--and the best way to cure it is to get something on the calendar--even if it is a local 5K. Just sign up for anything--there's always another race and another free t-shirt just around the bend.

I had big letdown moods last year and this year, since I already have stuff on the calendar--wasn't as big a deal.

Really, you think so? It seems like I'm working pretty hard to get through those 2 miles at that pace. I was thinking of holding at 2 miles at 14 min/mile at least through the end of this week - until it felt a little more comfortable.

Okay--Minnie...refresh me on what your injury is. It is often difficult to be upfront with the doc--but lots of us who put it off...pay dearly for doing so. :rolleyes1

Get an MRI--get whatever it is checked out and fixed if possible!

This is Miss LLP--"she who talks the talk but never listens to her own advice and waits 3 months to speak up about her knee and had to go from a full to a half all b/c she didn't want to speak up now--nuh uh--no way jose"

Trust me--I walk the walk now.....speak up minnie! Don't hide it from the doc! It doesn't get better by itself unless you do that "well don't do that if it hurts" routine! We don't want to see you do that. :grouphug:
