Really, you think so? It seems like I'm working pretty hard to get through those 2 miles at that pace. I was thinking of holding at 2 miles at 14 min/mile at least through the end of this week - until it felt a little more comfortable.

Good plan! IF it is still hard, you aren't ready to increase the load yet. Only when what you are doing now begins to feel easy do you increase intensity (aka, speed/kick it up a notch).

And each week--as you increase distance--it will naturally feel more difficult. That's why you run the long runs easy. Eventually easy--gets faster and easy gets stronger. And you do more and what seems to be the same effort as on day 1.

Oh Dave, you did say your last walk was feeling pretty good! The end of the week is probably a good time to maybe increase distance to 2 1/2 miles, just slow down your pace a little. That is the key to increasing distance just slow down until, like Lisa said, you are able to do those 2 1/2 or 3 miles at a comfortable speed. It won't take long before you are covering 3 miles in 14min/mile.

Whoa Helen - a great white! So cool! (not for you to swim with :p , but I've always wanted to see one live. )

I've done the shark tank swim at Sea World and it was awesome. Granted I was in a cage and protected, but to see the sharks swim right past me, and looking at their teeth and eyes, was a rush!

I know there's other posts I wanted to respond to, but I forget what they were now. Hard to keep up with this thread and I'm ready to go to bed. My eyes are closing as I try to read the screen. Of coourse it's 1:30 AM, too.

G'night all!

Mel - :lmao: Pennywise! OMG, "It" is one of my all time favorite books!

Lisa and princessmomma - thanks for the advice about increasing the distance. Yeah, I guess I meant I felt really good that I was out there walking, but I don't think I'm quite ready to increase distance yet.

Good morning :surfweb:,

I got my strength training in yesterday after the kids went to bed. Was planning on doing my run today since I missed yesterday, but DD is staying home sick today. So, I think I can call this my rest day instead of tomorrow.

Tomorrow, my mom is coming to stay with the babies while I go to a meeting at work, I am hoping she can stay an extra hour while I squeeze in a run.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the little ones don't catch what their sister has!

Here's hoping everyone has a great day! :sunny:

Dave, that is great you feel good with your walks, just take your time then, there is no hurry! You will know when it is time to increase distance, your body will just want to go!

Maggie, good job on the strength training. I find it hard to strength train at night, I get buzzed and am up all night.

hockeygirl, great that DBF is doing the full in 2007 with you! It is always great to have someone close to you with common goals. That is why I love it here at WISH! :disrocks: :grouphug: My female friends just don't understand why I run! :confused3

Had a migraine last night :headache:that woke me up at 1:00 and I finally got back to sleep at 5:00. I just got the kids off to school and now I am debating whether I should go for a run, go to gym or go back to bed! I am still battling this head cold too.

I apologize for being lax in posting but I have to admit it's because I am suffering from post-Goofy depression and all of the motivation here is just making me feel worse about my lack of it.

I know I had the bad cold, which was a hump to get over, but I really haven't felt much like a runner since WDW.

I have been easing back into it with the elliptical, short runs and weight training. I also did a LR of 9 miles with the Garmin on Sunday, but my pace is way off. This could also be attributed to my dieting, as I've lost 6 lbs since WDW, but I also need to do this before I begin training for Minnie.

I am traveling to Florida for business tomorrow and will be spending some solo time at WDW before my meetings. I am hoping this will lift my spirits a bit. I guess I just need a kick butt run to make me feel like a runner again :woohoo:

Sorry to be such a downer. Even though I am not posting, I am still lurking and cheering on everyone's successes in training. Welcome to the newbies.
I am hoping to start fresh on next week's thread with some real training news.

Hi Sara: Sorry you're having a hard time after the Goofy. The people here on the thread have really been pulling me along in the beginning of my training. Where in Upstate NY are you from?

Maggie- Here's some PD :wizard: so that DD gets better soon and the others don't catch it!

Dave- You are cracking me up with your Ding updates! :rotfl: Keep it up!

Sara- What you are feeling is totally normal! These are the post-marathon blues everyone keeps talking about. I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago and everyone on this board encouraged me. Now I am back into training and moving forward with a "Can Do" attitude. Your body is still recovering from 39.3 miles and a bad cold. Take it easy, and you will be back in training mode in no time. Knowing you, you will have no problem finishing the Minnie even if you did not train another step. Therefore, it's all about time--how fast will you go? In the end, does it really matter when you finish? Isn't it more about the journey? You have achieved a major accomplishment (finishing the Goofy), which most people will never even try. Take the time you need to relax and recover and celebrate your accomplishment. There will be plenty of time to train later.

Today I headed back to the gym after a rest day yesterday. I did 30 minutes on the bike and 15 minutes on the elliptical. It felt great! I wish I could have stayed longer, but I had to get to work. Now I have to exercise some self-control at lunch (going to an Italian restaurant).

Sara :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

First, thank you for posting your honest feelings. Second, no need to apologize. If we can't come here when we're down, then this isn't a place worth being at! And of course we know this is the place to be. I hope your trip toWDW will cheer you up. Just be patient with yourself and recognize what you are feeling is totally normal and it will pass. Soon you will be flying high training for Minnie, in the meantime, be good to yourself and KEEP COMING BACK! :surfweb:

Helen-- Great White???? no thank you! I'd be scared to death. Terri, I have a whole new image of you ;) "One Who Swims with Sharks". You are daring! Even if you were in a cage.

I went to the Y last night to do weights. Up until now I've just done upper body weights on their FitLinxx system. But I ventured over to the leg press last night. Its a nautilus machine versus the free weight loading machine I use at my gym. I noticed the weights only went up to 480 lbs and I got to wondering if I've been dilusional thinking I do 500 lb presses. Surely I couldn't max out the machine. I started with 220 so as not to look silly if it was much harder than I expected. It was easy, so up to 280, then 320, then 400, then, you guessed it 480! I maxed out the machine. I suppose if one is going to have tree-trunk legs, they should be strong! I can't wait to see what FitLinxx says I lifted this month. Its the little things in life...

Sara - Sorry you have been feeling down. I think there is such a high from completing such a cool thing like goofy. It is just way more fun than everyday life!!!!! I'm sure being exceptionally busy at work and having a cold haven't helped that much either. That is awesome that you are getting to go to WDW!!! That will have to inspire you for minnie!!!!! I am looking at TM's. I have been meaning to ask you what kind you have at home and what you think about it??

Sunny - I can't wait to see what the program says you lifted!!! It is the little things, but I think an African Elephant is pretty big :rotfl2:

I swam about 500 mtrs. last night. It was my slowest ever, but I'm not really training and i thought i'd work on technique. I have the WORST form! I think phil and i are mt. biking today while the boy is in preschool.

Dave - hope you got the grant finished!!! I love seeing the Dings!!! I'm just waiting for a good one from Tulsa!! Great job on keeping up with the exercise while juggling everything else!!

As for the Stephen king discussion... I just can't read his stuff... too creapy!!! I did really enjoy his book on writing (not that i ever plan to write, it was just really interesting!)

Mel - Woo hoo with the intervals. I know you can do 3r/2w! You're doing awesome.

DAve - Yup, you're ready. ;)

hockeygirl - Woohoo! DOing the full together is really cool! Are you going to run and train together (same pace and all) ? That's a bit challenging but well worth it. (WHo said that? ;) )

sara - We're here to cheer for the ups and help you get through the downs. That's what a real team means!

Dave - I am from Lake George, about an hour north of Albany. It is gorgeous here and the winter has been tolerable. :) Glad to be heading to Florida tomorrow though. I need a couple more free tickets to keep the race expenses down :rotfl2:

MelR - I have a Nordic Trak flex deck which I like a lot. The deck is a flexible wood deck which makes an incredible difference as far as impact goes.

Heather - Thanks so much for the kind words. I hope to turn it around soon. Best of luck with the Italian restaurant!!

Sunny - thanks for the sentiment. I wanted to tell you that I used to lift pretty heavy weights but laid off a bit for Goofy. I used to leg press 170 so just for kicks I tried your 240 last week at the gym. :rotfl: No way was I even budging that. However, your comment about the sturdy legs in the pics at WDW was why I decided to back off a bit on the poundage. However, I have been lifting for years and love it nearly as much as running :sunny: Muscles are so sexy. We do have FitLynxx at our Y but I don't use it. My dh is really competitive with it. WTG maxing out the machine!!

Good morning. What a depressing day. It's grey and damp and yucky. Plus I woke up this morning and I was so tired I just turned off the alarm and gave myself a day off. Well, tomorrow was a schedule rest day. Guess it ain't now!

Pat & Cam & Christa & Jodi & xterratri - Thanks for your advice about the hill. I love you guys for giving me the confidence to even do this! :thumbsup2

Jodi - Way to go with the WW! I'm not doing as well this time around as I did a year and a half ago. I think I better go over to Cam's 100 Day post.

And Cam, BTW, if you ever even THINK about coming to NY, you'd darn well better let me know! :yay:

Oh Minnie......:grouphug: and you are NOT an idiot! :grouphug:

Mel - I'm telling you, the Dremel works great! Not that anyone will ever be seeing my ugly old dogs out in public anytime soon! :rolleyes2

Sara - Going to WDW is good for what ails you. When you come back tell us all about it and we'll all be jealous. I'm not expert an on training but I think you should go easy on yourself. You'll start when you're ready. One day at a time. And hang around here. These guys are as motivating as anything! Heck, if they've got ME doing it, KWIM?? :grouphug:

Ok I'm going to try to pretend to look like I'm doing actual work here today. I don't know why. I just thought it would be a nice novelty. :rotfl2:

Judy

:clown: :clown: That's soooo funny, I was TOTALLY thinking of Pennywise from IT when I saw this, too!!

Sara - I know how you feel, that's why I signed up for Minnie when the DING came in. I don't think I'll make it for the 1/2 or full in '07 'cause we already have a cruise scheduled after X-mas.

Helen...I think a great white certainly qualifies as a good reason for not training for a tri :scared1: And it's an even better reason to come back to WDW for 2007...nothing with large teeth on the course :teeth:

Have you not seen Chip and Dale!!!

Hey Sara - sure, I know about Lake George. I've only been in Rochester for a year, but before that I was in Middlebury, VT for 5 years. We used to drive thru Lake George all the time. Have a great trip down to WDW! I'm sure you'll get the needed pick me up there. Let me know if you know of any good races in the Lake George area that maybe I could use for a training run.

OK, so the grant is done!!! :thumbsup2  :woohoo: Thanks for the well-wishes everyone on that task. Oh my, I'm glad that one's off my desk, but you won't believe this story. So I'm up working late last night trying to finish all the writing up. I leave my laptop set up on my dining room table. Our princesses come down this morning for breakfast, and DD8 princess: is in a foul mood. We've actually been having a little trouble with her behavior since we moved to Rochester (like I said we've only been here a year, and she hasn't adjusted to the new place so well - we're getting some help though). Anyhow, to make a long story short, she starts having a meltdown fit :furious: that ends with her slamming down her big cup of water down on the table. You can probably see where this is going. The cup bounces and dumps on my laptop. I was about to die. :earseek: It could have been disastrous, but the computer was fine, and I didn't lose anything. I was convinced the grant would have been toast. :badpc: My wife and I have been trying to be very understanding and supportive for our DD8 princess: for the move, but the fits she's having are just not OK.

All right, that was really OT. :offtopic: I promise my next post will be about training.

Morning all - well I'm still not shark bait (not least because Im not going anywhere near the sea!!!). Am spending much time looking out the window 'fin spotting' - but as we're about 1.5miles away from the water I'm not sure how well that's going to go.

Went to the gym last night for a fitness assessment - am now superfit (hoorraaaay), but my scales have been lying to me for last year and I weigh 7lb more than I thought (and I didn't like the first figure so I really don't like the second one). Good news is that 3lb of it is extra muscle, bad news is that rather too much of me is body fat - and they've told me not to run LSD so much if I want to get it down, apparently my body's just too used to it.

Can't decide if that's a 'hooray' or a 'don't be so stupid' at the moment - although I think me saying, well maybe I'll dump one running session to come in here and then add another workout day to my week rather than lose any more sessions, kind of gave it away. I know they're right though, I just don't lose weight running - probably because I eat like the proverbial piggy when I'm finished. Very happy to do lots of weights and intervals though, am enjoying the gym a lot at the moment.

So, anyway have now told at least 25 people that I'm doing Goofy 2008 so that's sorted then, it's me and Disneyfun at the start line at least. Hmmm, what did I just say about not running long, slow, distance......... Helen

Dave-- I can so relate to DD troubles! Mine is 16. I think we're over the major hump but boy has it been a ride... If DS is anything like her just point me to the nearest cliff :lmao: (JUST KIDDING). Actually he is nothing like her. Starting somewhere around age two she started questioning why I get to make the rules and never quite accepted my answer!!!!! I can't count how many times I lost my temper and in total exasperation yelled "because I am the parent" which of course never got the results I was hoping for  You'll get there! Be patient.

Helen no more dropping LSD? :lmao: How would you survive? So many people are amazed that I struggle with my weight with all of this running, they just don't get it that the appetite grows twice as fast as the mileage. I've tried to outrun my appetite but its always waiting for me at the finish line. :rolleyes2 So now your a buff gym rat. Yeah! Do elaborate :teeth:

I did boring elliptical at lunchtime. I have serious doubts at the calorie burn read out of those machines. ANyone else doubt them? I know the beauty of the ET is supposed to be the low perceived exertion, but factoring in heart rate and sweat factor, too, I just don't buy it. SO I only counted 80% of what it told me. I knew I needed to rest certain body parts today  Don't know what I'll do after work since I did upper body weights last night and the leg press. Maybe more rowing.

OK, I finally memorized the Y swimming schedule but I have to admit I'm scared to death to try. I don't know what to do it the lanes are already filled, how do you share a lane? I also don't know how well I can do a proper crawl. For years I've done it with my head out of water. I forget how to dip and breath and keep moving straight. I can do the side stroke for many laps but is that good? I need much swimming advice. I also don't have a proper swim suit yet. All I have is a tankini which may not do well with the pushing off  I feel so silly, but I really am quite intimated with this whole thing. Those swimmers all look like they know what they are doing.

I ate cake for lunch. I didn't get back from the gym intime to eat before going to a group function. I would have been strong if I wasn't so darn hungry. Oh well, there went the better part of my points for dinner!

Sunny
