Wk of Jan 28--WISH Walking/Running Club

Just throwing this up again, hoping someone will take pity on me and let me know what you normally do...

Thanks!
Maria

If DS was staying on property with you then I would say take him. Havard is not going to care that he missed a few days of school in the fourth grade.

But if you are going to be running him back and forth to Tampa, I would not bring him. That stretch of I-4 is not fun and it only create one more thing to worry about.

I'm dealing with my DD13 for Chicago. I plan on taking her, but she will either stay in the hotel or meet up with friends during my run. She knows there will be times when she will be in charge of herself. I'll love having her along, but running the marathon is the reason we are there.

Hope that helps.

I am feeling a little better so I went out for a run tonight. About half way through, I discovered that I am not completely healed and started getting side cramps from breathing. I cut the run a little short and will try again in a couple of days. I wound up with 3.3 miles with a 10:27 pace.

I did finally get hotel reservations for the half marathon in March so now I can focus on Minnie accomidations. I am probably causing way too much stress for Lynnda by being a little slow with this.:lmao:

Erica - Sorry to hear about your pet. It is always a hard thing to do.

Cam - Do you train for your polar dip by taking ice baths. ;) So far that is about the only thing I can think of that would be worthy of taking an ice bath.

Judy - Glad to see you are back but sorry to hear that you are not having the best of times. Although $1300 for a valve sounds like you got the gold plated diamond encrusted ones.;) Hot fudge is a great thing to drown sorrows in but only if it is on top of ice cream and under whipped cream. You are more than welcome to stop by our house as well but just make sure you give us plenty of warning. A three year old will pretty much destroy anything in his path. :lmao:

Laurie - Great job on the training run. That is a great pace.

Chernabog - Welcome and good luck on your training. I despise being on the treadmill and will only stay on it as long as necessary, which is usually less than 3 miles.

Kristi - Great job on the training run tonight.

Jim - I smelled several fireplaces going tonight. Some smelled good but there were some that I think something died in the chimney. :scared1:

Sunny - That is funny about the ice. Something I would never have thought of before. Although now that Lynnda has ideas I will have to watch out when she volunteers to get ice for me. :thumbsup2

Christa - 100 miles on a bike... Now I guess all you have to do is combine it with a little swim and a little marathon.:rotfl:

Craig - Sorry to poke a hole in your theory, but I have a couple of toes that have turned purple but the nails haven't fallen off yet. I just think guys don't care/notice so they never complain about it.

Krista - You wouldn't be trying to get the most number of posts again would you. I noticed Carrie is still ahead of you by a little. :rotfl2:

Welcome to any new members that I have missed.

Bill

Darn it Bill, the hyopthesis is rejected. Maybe I should go on television, where I could spout all my dumb ideas. I have an idea, I'll call it "Dr. Phil." Oops, somebody beat me to it.

I guess that means I have to get up and go to work tomorrow.

Craig

I ran 2 miles! I ran 2 miles! That is the longest that I have run straight in my life. I am a runner. :dance3:

I totally agree with Jim on this one. We drove the Tampa stretch one year to go to the beach and that is quite a ways and definitely NOT something I'd want to have to do during marathon weekend. It's about a 2hr trip one way!

If you decide to take him then I try to get family to come and stay with him or only one of you run (possibly 1 the half and the other the full?)

I wouldn't worry about missing school in the 4th grade. High school is a different matter but 4th grade I wouldn't even think about it.

Good luck!

Congratulations!

It's all about taking it to the next level, whatever that level is. Keep up the good work.

Somehow I have to figure out how the sore muscles fit into my taper schedule for my upcoming marathon. I might be running a little bow legged! :lmao:

Jim -- I can barely manage to walk after "running." I cannot even imagine riding a horse. My hat is off to you, buddy!

And yes, I'm going to get that Ducati. One of my students this spring has one. Do you suppose he'd bring it by so his instructor could see it, sit on it, start it, listen to the engine, and then of course, turn the engine off and walk awaypirate: ?

Craig -- I cannot wait to see a picture of you on your Ducati! You'll have to have one taken this summer! :goodvibes:

Just throwing this up again, hoping someone will take pity on me and let me know what you normally do...

Thanks!
Maria

Maria -- Quite frankly, I'd suggest not taking him on the marathon weekend trip. You will be surprised at what a relief it is not to worry about a little one. No need to worry about what and when to feed him, whether he is occupied, issues re: how early you'll want to go to bed because of how early you will be getting up. I'd just say "we are doing a race in Orlando that just happens to go through the Disney parks" rather than saying "We are going to Disney." As you said, he'll have other opportunities. I know it is a tough decision, though, so good luck!

Cam - Do you train for your polar dip by taking ice baths. ;) So far that is about the only thing I can think of that would be worthy of taking an ice bath.
Bill -- I am thinking it might not be a bad idea. I think the temperature is going to be 26 and the windchill 17. It is only for my love of special olympics that I will put myself through this!

I ran 2 miles! I ran 2 miles! That is the longest that I have run straight in my life. I am a runner. :dance3:

Well, of course you are, silly! We all knew that! Are you just figuring it out!?!?!? J/K! You totally rock, girl! I am so proud of you and happy for you! :woohoo: :cheer2:  :cool1:

Kristi -- every time I hear "Let Love In" I think of you, not just for your love of GGD but also because of the Disneyland 1/2 -- I particularly like the line "I'll stay with you" -- It reminds me of you and Rhonda and I get this huge happy sappy grin on my face!

Sunny -- I swear, every time a Scooter song comes up on my playlist I run in your honor and think of the line that I think personifies you -- "I'm so hardcore!"

Well, guys, I slightly improved my 5K time again tonight, though I am sure I could have done better if I'd had some food and/or powerade.
3.1 miles in 41:35. I think that is a 13:25 pace. And nearly 2 minutes better than my PR (43:33). Every little bit helps! :cool1:

Man, I'm thinking there may be something wrong when you spend more time every day catching up on posts than actually training :rotfl2:

Good job to everyone.

Judy - Just think, this week can only be better.

Vicki - I wholeheartedly support the Garmin. We have a 205 and it has really helped me. Very tangible way to track activity, pace yourself, push yourself, etc, etc. The 205/305's are not big at all and still have a very easy to read display.

Erica - sorry for you loss.

Maria - Everyone is different, but I would think leaving DS home may be the best option. DW and I did Donald this year for our first time and opted to leave DDs home. Much less stress. We were able to totally enjoy the events and atmosphere and could to deal with our own issues without all the stuff that goes with a kid.

Hey Scuba - so, horseback riding.. Do you need two pairs of boots, a long sleeve, short sleeve, tank cowboy tech shirts, a couple of hats, short chaps, long chaps, hydration system, maybe a GPS to pace your horse? I won't even ask about Bodyglide.

Oh yeah, I did manage to squeeze in a 4 mile run today in between checking posts.

We leave our 4 DDs at home with my mom when we go for marathon weekend. We are crazy, but this is our idea of a romantic weekend away together. The kids do not like that we go to WDW without them, but they usually go twice a year so they can't complain much. We have done this 3 years in a row, and as they get older it does get harder for them to understand how we could go without them, but they enjoy the presents we bring home. ;) I know that others have taken their children and had a good time. Just ask Dave, MelR, Kristi, and Sunny. For us, with 4 under the age of 9, it would just be too much to have them along. I agree with others that the trip from Tampa to Orlando is brutal and not something you are going to want to fool with on marathon weekend.

First of all. Thanks so much for the welcome!!!!!
I walked 3 miles today in 45 minutes. At that rate....and if I was able to keep up that speed I should be under 7 hours. Wow. I have a lot of training to do. Because I was so ready to get off that treadmill at 3 miles.

Chimera- You are right. I am not ready for 6 miles this week. I changed my plan. Tomorrow is an easy walk day. Three miles at a leisurely pace. Thurs is race pace day of three miles. Friday is a day off. Saturday will be an easy walk day of 4 miles. Sunday is a day off. I don't mind if it takes me longer to get trained. And next week I'll do the same instead of increasing.

Hockeychick--I live in London. Not too far from you. My brother lives in Uxbridge. I ate at a great Japanese restaurant in Newmarket. We cooked our meat in an open grill there right at the table.

Erica-sorry to hear about your dog. I've been there. I love my furbaby. I dread the day I will have to do it again. So sorry

Cruella- I do weight training but not on the treadmill while I walk. I also do alot of floor work. Abd work and stretches. Do you carry weights on the treadmill? I don't think I could do that. Right now I'm concentrating on good form.

It's great to read about so many good workouts. I feel inspired.

I am so with you! I have to cut the morning routine short so I have time to catch up on the previous night's posts before I go to work! There is something seriously wrong with that. If I could only figure out a way to tie the laptop into the treadmill...

However you could do the Dr. Craig show and give running and training advice. I have a feeling that it would be quite popular with this group. Then you could invite all of us to be your guests at different times.

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

I had another good run yesterday. I had been running 3 days, SWOGging 2 days, and 1 day of yoga since the marathon. Now I'm trying to add a 4th day of running. I did a hill workout yesterday, and did 6 repeats up and down a hill near my house. Need to get ready for that big hill at the Pig. I felt surprisingly good. My distance was 3 miles, but I didn't want to go too far as I add this 4th day of running. My pace was faster than I thought it would be. I averaged 10 mpm, but I think that's because my downhill pace was about 8:30 mpm - uphill was much slower.

I got a little bummed last night. My DW and I were chatting, and she made the offhand comment that she doesn't even want to talk about going back to Disney until our credit card are all paid off. Fair enough, but I don't know if we're going to be debt free by the time I would have to register for the full marathon. Uuugh, I really want to be there and run with my team mates, and get that 15th anniversary medal. We'll see what happens, it's a long way away right now and lots can happen.

OK, time to get caught up with my team mates.

Does anyone do yoga? I'm wondering if I'd find a little extra flexibility to be helpful.

Sunny- Your story of the ice bath just had me laughing. I'm glad you can laugh about it all because I remember what a serious condition you said you were in after the full.

Christa- Definitely do the 100 mile bike ride. It sounds like a blast. Just make sure you take lots of pictures and share them with us.

Erica- I'm so sorry to hear about the death of your dog. How devastating. I wish you all the best.

Jim- I like the image of you running bowlegged because of your horse riding. You might want to talk to Judy to see how she fits the horse cross training into her schedule.

Maria- I brought the whole family to the marathon last year. DW, DD6 princess:, DD9 princess:, and my sister-in-law (Cool Aunt) to help watch the kids while I ran. In fact, DD9 had her 9th birthday at MK the day before the marathon. If I can run the Disney Marathon in '08, I think it will either be DW and I going ourselves (with someone to come watch the girls at home), or I may try to go for a solo trip. I don't think we can afford to bring the whole family on another trip, and I don't want to take the kids out of school again. Although we did take DD9 out of 3rd grade and DD6 out of kindergarten for a few days, I don't think I want to do it every year.

Bill- Sounds like a pretty good run for just getting over a cold too. What half marathon are you running in March? Is it the same one that Mel/Chimera is running?

Heather- CONGRATULATIONS!!!! That is an awesome run! WTG! Heather, the idea of using the marathon weekend as a romantic weekend sounds fantastic. Maybe I can convince DW of that too. Just gotta get these bills paid off...

Cam- I'm excited for your Polar Dip at Rehobeth Beach. I wish we were down there visiting my parents, and I could see you and your family do this in person. Good luck, and give my best to Howard. Great job with the 5K. You're really doing well!

Mike- You gotta get up early to catch up with all the posts. Forget getting up early to run. I have to get up early to visit with my team mates. Nice job on the 4 mile run.

Carole- That's a great walk. 3 miles at 15 mpm pace, that's fantastic!!!

Jackie- You need to get one of those book holders and put it on the display of your TM, and then you can prop your laptop up on that. There you go, training and catching up with your team mates.

AbraCat- Welcome to the team! I do yoga once a week on Friday. I have never had great flexibility, and it's great to have an exercise session that focuses just on stretching, etc. I find it's great to get all stretched out before my LR on Saturdays. Plus, I love that last 10-15 min of class where we lie on our backs with our eyes closed. My favorite part!

Does anyone do yoga? I'm wondering if I'd find a little extra flexibility to be helpful.

I've done Ashtanga yoga for the last year and it has helped my running tremendously. My body is stronger overall and I noticed a differnece in my 06 WDW half and my 07 Goofy performances. My body was just better able to handle the stress and I believe it's the yoga.

I attend a less structured yoga class where each week the teacher asks us what parts of the body we'd like to focus on. A week after Goofy, I requested legs and boy did he get me all stretched out, then we got to the relaxation part.

Now yoga as XT I can't wrap my brain around. Some say it counts as XT, others say no. I do it because I don't care for structured weight training.

Hope this helps.

Maria – I would not bring your ds if your only option is to truck him back & forth along I-4 to Tampa. That said, we bring ds3 each year. BUT, only Chad was running until this year. Also, we always managed to convince my parents or Chad’s parents to come along. They watch Zack while Chad runs & I ‘scream team’ for him. This year was really hard. We just had my mom with us, and she was also doing the Half with both of us. So we managed to get my grandparents to come over and stay with Zack while we raced. It worked fine, but I hated asking them to watch a crazy 3 year old! We also usually bring Zack since we make the marathon a week-long (or longer) vacation. Can your niece come to you at WDW & stay over the night to watch your son?

Heather - WOW! 2 miles is awesome!!! :woohoo:

Bill – take care of yourself & don’t push it too much until you are 100%.

Cam – awwww, we have ‘our’ song! Awesome job on the 5k, by the way!

Mike – spending more time on here, rather than training…that’s wrong? :confused3

Carole – great job!

Dave – just surprise her with the trip again next year! (I am an instigator – you better ignore me!) :rolleyes1

Abra Cat – I don’t do yoga, but I’d like to hear the responses also.

I am sicker again today. Maybe it wasn't such a good idea to do a bunch of errands, hit the Y, then get only 6 hours sleep last night. I am supposed to do 2 miles or xt today. I think I am going to skip that & rest. I am really sick of being sick!

Good morning team.

Sorry I can't keep up with the posts from yesterday, just a horribly busy day.

Carole: I work in Stouffville, so not to far from where your brother lives.

Erica: So sorry to hear of your beloved pet, cherish the memories.

Sorry for all the posts I missed yesterday.

I finally bought a treadmill, kids won't go to college but that is OK...:lmao: just kidding. I get it either Thurs or Tues. Can't wait.!!!!

I will try to keep up with todays posts, hopefully not so busy at work today.

Have a great one all.

Kim

Kristi- how can the medical marval be sick. Yeah, maybe I can surprise her with a trip again. I take the attitude of never saying never. I try to keep all my options open, and we'll see what works out. We'll see. I know she really wants to do the DiveQuest at EPCoT, and that's what started the conversation. I got the Disney Visa flyer in the mail describing benefits and I noticed that you can get 20% off of the tours. I said that's how I can bribe her with me running the marathon again, by getting her the DiveQuest...

It is the Sarasota Half marathon. It is the same one that Mel is running as well.
