Wk of Jan 14--WISH Walking/Running Club

Jodi--glad to see you're still alive and kickin'. Great job on finishing Goofy!

Laurie--as everyone else is saying, take it easy and don't look too far ahead. Distance running/walking is a fine line between mental stability/insanity. :) No, in all seriousness, though, everyone is right. Don't worry about the long distances now. They will come in time. You have a whole year to build distance. Right now just train to train. Do some weightlifting or at least stretching and try to strengthen your leg muscles, especially those at the joints (knees, hips). Most marathon training plans only call for a long run of 5 or 6 miles as the first long run of the first week. And that's not even until September! You'll be fine.

Well, got my first outside run in tonight since last weekend. 4 miler. And guess what? It was COLD!   I actually had to put gloves and a hat on. I could see my breath! It was great! No more of this sweltering heat for me. Give me 28 degrees with flurries any day. :thumbsup2

Ok, gotta go wear Hines out so he will sleep for the rest of the night. I'll catch up with you guys later.

Oh, one more question (and this is probably for Lynne). Has anyone done the WDW Triathlon in late Septermber? We're heading down to the World around that time for our annivesary, and I'm really considering doing this event. I'm going to have to work out the logistics of getting my bike down there or renting one in Orlando, but does anyone have any info or past experience with the Disney Triathlon?

Ok, I'm really going to go this time.

Steve

Now for the cold, hard truth. I've been reflecting on race weekend and even looked back over my training logs. I'm bummed about not finishing the full, so I could be Goofy. But it was my own fault. I was not fully prepared (if one can ever be) for these races. I let too many things interfere with my training and did not put in the necessary time and distance. I will be more disciplined this year. I hope the third time will be the charm and I will "officially" finish both races next year.

Oh Terri, don't be bummed....You'll do it! I thought I wasn't going to make it and nearly drove my friend Heather nuts -- she's like don't worry we're going to do it -- I won't let you not finish. I almost cried when I finished not out of pain but out of pure joy. :goodvibes

Laurie, you'll get there. Please don't despair. Keep at what you can and do your best to be strong. After a bit it gets easier physically, then the mental fun begins--but that's better cuz we're here to get you through.

Terri, I'm glad that you are going to keep at this until it happens. You win for perseverance. I'm proud of you for not giving up. You go!

Ummm, I'm playing with my siggie tonight...:rolleyes1

You know what I got from my manager when I came back to work on Tuesday?

Him: "How'd it go?"

Me: "Oh it was fabulous! :hyper: We had the best time! :yay: We had so much fun. :yay: I can't wait to do it again" and so on and so on....

Him: "Well, you're back now."

Umm, OK, gee thanks. Can you rein in that enthusiasm there? Don't get too excited for me now, will ya? I mean, just take it easy.

:rolleyes2:

Oh that really stinks! I got great reactions for my people at work. They were very impressed with the medals, and kept on congratulating me. Then they went on to say "Would you do it again?"

I said absolutely, I plan on doing it in 2009 again -- I have to do better! :goodvibes Then they looked at me like I was totally crazy.

Hi Everyone!

Sorry, I haven't been on since Marathon weekend. Krista dropped a PM saying everyone was looking for me.

The day of the Marathon (afterwards) I started to feel not-so-great; felt like I was getting a cold. My husband and I spent the day in Magic Kingdom the Marathon and most of day I had a itchy throat most of the day.....I kept on saying "Bob, I really feel like I'm getting a cold." He assured me, it was probably because of all of work I had done with a marathon and a half.

Well.....for once, he was wrong (and he thinks he's so smart:goodvibes ) -- I did have a cold and have been fighting it off eversince. Today is the first I've felt decent. Last week it was pretty much come home from work, go to bed.

The half went pretty good, it only took me about a half hour more than it took me to run the Hartford Marathon. The Marathon, well I finished it but I didn't do as well as I wanted to -- I finished in 6 hours and 26 minutes....but I guess that's a starting point for me.

My tendonitis was bugging me a litte bit during the full, but other than that felt great. Hey, was anyone else in the bunch of people where Disney ran out of water for close to 4 stops straight?

Looks like if everything goes well -- my friend and I will be doing Goofy again in 2009 (can't afford 2008 -- as much as I wish). She'll be doing Goofy in 2008, or so she says.

I do plan on doing the Hartford Marathon in October :goodvibes . Thanks Everyone.....you all got me addicted. BTW -- My friend plans on flying in from Florida for that one.

I have so much catching up to do with all of you.

Okay -- here are some photo's from Marathon weekend:

All right Jodi! Good to see you back! Congratulations on your 1/2M and full marathon finishes and your Goofy medal! WTG! You've come such a long, long way. I bet your husband is very proud. Sorry you got sick.

Dave - Bob is very proud of me. :goodvibes In a way I think he is jealous a little bit -- but yes, very proud. He still thinks I'm crazy though.

So, I didn't catch up on next week yet -- was your wife proud of your accomplishment?

Krista - You're still having problems with your IT band? I'm doing the same as you and taking a month off or so. Although, I have to admit today I really wanted to do some running but I want to get back to normal first. I have another check up with my doctor next month.

Thanks Steve and Dave for the welcome back -- I really didn't mean to stay away for that long.

I'm so jealous of all of the people going to do the Minnie Marathon, wish I could but I think my manager at work would kill me. Amazing, I let all of my teams know that the other admins in my area would be able to assist them while I was out.....and not one team did, but I came back to a full e-mail box of requests for when I got back:rolleyes1 .

So, how are all of you able to take more time off to go to the Minnie? Just curious (and jealous):goodvibes .

Kevin - Glad you're back and well.

Jodi - Welcome back. Congratulations on finishing - sorry you got sick! I love the Tigger siggie!

Laurie - I'm right there with you, except that you're a lot faster than I am. I'm still doing 3 mile distances regularly, but my times are closer to 37-38 minutes. Last spring when I was training for the Minnie I pushed too far before I was ready and spent 4 weeks nursing shin splints, so I'm determined not to repeat that mistake.

I SO want to be part of the Minnie weekend, but have promised the family that I won't spend any more money on WDW other than the family trip in June as long as we can do the marathon weekend in January. Two trips in a month would be a little much, although DD is bummed since she was planning on doing the Minnie this year too. Now we have to find local 5K's for her to try since she's never run an actual race so she'll be ready for the half! We were planning on the Race for the Cure, then realized it's the weekend we'll be at WDW in June. I'll just have to settle for Minnie envy!

Jackie

Hm... Left this morning when it was dark around 0600, home tonight when it's dark around 2000 (8pm)... and I have that exact same schedule for tomorrow, Thur, Fri, Mon, Tue, and Wed. Loooong days going through the final phase of academic/simulator training here before we go fly again. Going to be tough to fit in some runs, I guess I'm still "recovering?":confused3

Jodi -- So glad to see you back and doing well. Congrats on the Goofy! Love the pix!

Matt -- LOVED meeting Cheryl at POP but missed you. Howard has a great pic with you at the beginning of the full. PM me with your email address and I'll email it to you.

Joodi - SO sorry you were sick. COngrats on teh Goofy! great pics!

Matt - Yuck! Good luck!

Terri - This year stunk! Don't let it get you down.

Lily - :scared1: Going Goofy again????? HOly cow! You da' woman!

Christy - Way to go with the work outs!!

Jackie - Does it count if you don't go to the parks? I very likely won't but wll still have a great time! It's not really spending $ on Disney if you don't go to the parks, right? :D

WOo hoo! I felt great tonight. OK, it was only 30 minuites, but post race last year was tough. Still a bit slow, but I think it's just that TMs stink. Except for the first 10 miles of teh race, I cannot tell you the last time I felt that good. The good side of pain is that it realy make you appreciate when you don't have it.. :p

Steve

No, I haven't but it got universally poor reviews in race reports for the 2006 race. They had problems w/ not doing proper road closures on one of the roads for safety issues plus the bike was 4 miles short on an out and back course. www.BeginnerTriathlete.com has a feature called the race nexxus that is kind of like a master calender that also links to race reports from the previous year so you might be able to find some of them. Of course, w/ the uproar over the 2006 race there is a good chance that things will be fixed for 2007. I've done the FL 70.3 race(a half Ironman) and am registered to do it again this year and had to borrow some points from my next use year for the VWL ressie so any DVCer can tell I am truly committed to it:).

Both swims are in Bay Lake from Ft Wilderness, the early and late portion of the 70.3 bike is similar to the Sept race(flat, flat, really really flat through that section) but the runs differ. In addition and this is key, the Sept race is ran by Disney Endurance and the FL 70.3 is ran by North American Sports/formerly Ironman North America(changed their name in Nov).

Hope this helps.

Congrats to all you finishers---you guys post wayyyy too much...I can't keep up!!!!! YOu are the energizer bunnies!!!

LLP's training update!!!

30 weeks down, 10 to go...and then the REAL training begins. But for now...I just train to train to train.

I am up 4 more pounds.:woohoo:

Todays meals consisted of some yummy concoctions--and some....lost concoctions (translations--I still have morning sickness:sick: ). But the piece de la resistance---half a bag of Newman O's mint. :dance3: Yeah--carb loading all ready!!!!

My exercise for today....well.....

I took my daughters to dance class....hobbled through the obstacle course known as my house while waiting for a carpet install on Friday (hubby moved stuff, tore up stuff..yada yada yada prior to his business trip). I tell you--it is EXCELLENT cross training. :woohoo: Got me some hurdle action going on. Gotta work those glutes.:yay:

Tomorrow's agenda---a trip to the chiropractor....a snap crackle and a pop to get everything all straigtened out....a trip to Piano Lessons (dd must cross train those fingers for the proper racing fist action--a bit too much for me at this point....that will have to wait for Spring training. :rolleyes1 )....a trip to the orthodontist to check on the position of my one crooked tooth...so a few facial exercises to accomodate the required tools and stuff....loosen up those facial muscles for the most appropriate of marathon faces.

Friday we go camping--:woohoo: . Where I will watch hubby cross train with the crank on the pop-up...excellent for working those biceps, triceps and whatever else muscle he may use. Then my booty will make the beds....more cross training!!!! :woohoo:

Thus sums up my training to train to train. (maybe to train to train to train? :confused3 )

Ya'll are having waaaaaaay too much fun today!!! ;)

For all the Minnie-ers - I have a secret... I think I almost have DH convinced to do the Minnie... yes, I know it's girls' weekend, but if he does it, I can come, too (along with Billy and the newest WISH baby). I assured him that he needed the complete medal collection, and I already have the inaugural medal from last year. I also told him this was his only chance since I would be doing it next year (and hopefully for many years after), and he would have baby duty! :thumbsup2

I had a doctor appt. and the baby is good! We have the 3D ultrasound next week, then a regular ultrasound in a month. Yea! I also managed to do some cross-training today. I took all the ornaments and most of the garland off the Christmas Tree, then finished unpacking our suitcases from the marathon... Ummmm, so I'm a little slow... :rolleyes1 I figure I have get some sort of exercise in now in order to be fast enough to keep up with DH in January. Gotta protect his booty! :lmao:

;) Lynnda

Wow--you get a 3D. I never went for it. I heard that my insurance will pay for it...but I'd have to go all the way to Orlando.

WTG on the cross training. :woohoo:

OK, you are all making me super jealous. Here I go and post my dilema that I am not sure I can make the marathon next year.... and you all are planning the Minnie and what not.... Wahhhhhhhh:sad: I not only have work to contend with, but conventions. So not fair to be me. I wanna have fun too!

Well, one more day in Reno and then I get to try to fly back home. I pray it goes smoother than me trip out here. Plus traveling alone for work can get so boring!

Happy planning and training everyone. Oh, but please don't forget about us lowly WISHers that can't make it to Minnie... I so want to be there!

Thanks to everyone for the great advice! I know inside that I can do it, I guess just some days are harder than others. My training has been going great, I was already in relatively good shape from playing hockey a couple of nights a week plus I teach physical education so I am running around all day with my students. At any rate, I am pleased with my progress, and I am sticking to the training plan that I have so I can prevent over-training. I am training for a half marathon in April, so I am very psyched about that. Again, thanks for all the advice, I knew I could count on you guys to make me feel better!!!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK all, I'm slowly getting back into training mode. I'm still taking it pretty easy. Monday I did 30 min on the TM (including 5 min wu & cd). I ran 2 miles @ 10 mpm. Yesterday I did a 30 min SWOG that felt very, very good. I'm not pushing it at all, but it feels good to be out there. I have to pat myself on the back a little because when I was running alot in grad school I always had the trouble of stopping running after a big event (10K, CRIM, whatever I was training for). I'm determined to keep with the running this time and not stop.

Hi Jodi- Yes, DW, Dana, is very, very proud of me. In fact, she was talking to her father last night and he said, "good thing Dave finished that marathon, now he can stop running and won't have to worry about all those fallen arches and stuff." My wife replied, "No, Dave is continuing running. He's a better person when he runs." Yay, honey!!!

Jen- I hear you and your dilema. I still don't know if I'm going to run Disney again next year. I really want to, and I want to spend more time with my WISH team. It's just sooooooo expensive for us to go to Disney. I said, "maybe we could have grandma come watch the princesses, princess: princess:, and she and I could have an adult weekend next year for the marathon." My wife said, "We can't go to Disney without the girls. How about running Disney again in 2 years? You could go run the Chicago marathon by yourself this year." So I don't know what I'm doing next at this point. Except I'm planning on doing the Flying Pig half marathon for my next event. Have fun in Reno. Can you make it over to Lake Tahoe? My wife and I spent part of our honeymoon there at Lake Tahoe, and it was absolutely beautiful. If you can get over there, it's worth it.

Good morning team!!!!!

Glad to hear everyone is on the mend and getting back into training.

I was thinking of signing up for a 1/2 marathon in Toronto at the end of September. I think it will give me some confidence going into WDW in Jan which I still haven't decided on the Donald or Mickey. I am sure I could do the 1/2 but wondering if I have it in me to do the full.

Yikes, gotta go it is later then I thought and I am sure I have to shovel show just to make it to my garage again today.

Have a awesome day all

Kim

Morning Everyone,

Guess what I did this morning? :goodvibes Nope, I didn't run.....but I just registered for the Hartford Marathon.  It's not until October but I had such a great time last year doing the Half that I've decided that I'm going to sign up --- plus I want to see how well I could have done in the Full, had I not done the Half the day before in Disney;) .

Dave - - That's great that your wife is your cheerleader:woohoo: So you may not be doing Disney next year? I thought, from reading everything that I was about the only one not returning next year. I wish I could but yep, it's very expensive to do so. I'm hoping to get back in 2009 too!:thumbsup2

Well, I have to go -- gotta get to work you know:rolleyes: Have a great day everyone!

Here I am 2 days in a row--that could be a record for me!

I just did another set of Week 3 of the Couch to 5K!!

I love all this Minnie talk, we are going to have such a great time!!

Hmmm, I love them both--can we get this for 07 and I will alternate them:thumbsup2

I forgot '07 hasn't happened yet!

Here ya go:

Good morning TEAM!!! You know, one of these days I need to get back in the swing of training, I haven't done a single thing since the marathon. Unless you count being at WDW until Saturday night. I guess I can always say that I'm just resting my It band. Yeah, that's what I'm doing, resting my IT band. ;) I have gone back to eating healthy again (I don't have a choice now that I'm not running a gazillion miles a week right now), I'm trying to lose about 10 lb before the Flying Pig half in May. I've been keeping my calories around 1200-1300 and it's SO hard!! I've forgotten how miserable it is to actually pay attention to caloric and fat in take.

Jodi--Good to see you back! I'm glad that you are feeling better now. Congrats on signing up for another marathon.

Kevin--I am SO glad that you are better!!!!! I thought about you all marathon weekend and wished that you could have been there. It was a really good thing that you decided to stay home though, if you would have tried to run in that heat as sick as you were, it could have been really bad!!! Take care of yourself and continue to feel better.

Cam--How are your feet?

Lisa--You crack me up!! But the bad thing is, you're doing more 6 months pregnant than I'm doing not pregnant. That makes me feel bad!!!!!

Lily--Congrats on going Goofy again!!!!! (I think?) I wonder how many people have done/will do all 3 Goofy Challenges. You are amazing!!!!!

Carrie--Yay you ran pain free!!!!!!!!!!!! That's one of the reasons I'm holding off right now, I'm scared it's going to hurt!!

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I almost forgot to tell you guys, the FUNNIEST thing happened last night. I had my medal sitting on the dresser, I moved it when I was getting ready for bed, to put it up until we do our shadow box. Hines heard the clinking, so he came over to investigate. I let him sniff the medal and the ribbon and then I put the medal on him. He totally FREAKED out!!! He started running around in circles and pawing at the medal while it clanked around his neck. When Stephen and I could catch our breath from laughing, we took the medal off him; for the next few minutes Hines stood there shaking and looking at us like "I can't believe you did that to me". :dog:
