Wk of Jan 14--WISH Walking/Running Club

Not me, know why? I'm IN! I've got the days off that I need to book airfare and I've registered!

Now I need to train up and get rid of the miserable IT band thing. I don't want to limp the Minnie like I limped the full!

YAYYYYYY!!! Lily is coming! :cool1: Lily, I knew you had already requested the time off so I didn't want to make your wait for a decision even worse by asking you if you'd heard yet.
I am so psyched you are coming! YES, you definitely have to get your IT band healthy. We do NOT want you having to prove once again what a superwoman you are by struggling through the pain to the finish! :flower3:

Thanks, Judy! It's amazing that no matter how prepared you are, you just never know what is going to come at you on race day. It definitely taught me a lesson -- I am going to be so much better prepared for my next race. :thumbsup2

Come on, Colleen. You are going to pass up the Minnie medal that would complete your set????? Join us - it is going to be a great weekend! We're planning tea at the GF, pedicures at the spa, WISH meets, etc. We want your lovely smiling face to be a part of our girls weekend!

::MinnieMo says Pretty Please!

Oh, that sounds SOOOOO good.

I had no idea, tea, spa treatments, WISH meets, oh, my...

Colleen--Can I tempt you with this :

Actually, that medal is on my list of must haves. Just thought that Minnie in the World is a better choice this time around than Ohio (my home state). I've heard the Flying Pig is a great event.

Ooooh, tea, spa treatments, WISH meets ooooohhhhh wheeeee! I didn't even think of the endless opportunities.

OK Colleen, You cannot say that Dabe's pig call, hilarious as it was, compares to our offer! :rotfl:

Woo hoo Lily!!!!!:yay: :yay:

Now, it's a race to see who's next. Minnie? Colleen?

Right now I'm looking up hotels for the Flying Pig. So the start's by the baseball stadium, right?

The start is actually right by Paul Brown Stadium (where the Bengals play BOO-HISS!!), but Paul Brown and Great American Ballpark are right next to each other. Other than the first 3 miles that are in KY, it's a pretty compact course and fairly easy for spectators to walk around. Here is the link to the course map and description if you have not seen it yet. Pay close attention to the elevation around mile 6.5. ;) http://www.flyingpigmarathon.com/race_information/schedule/half.shtml

Ya'll are having waaaaaaay too much fun today!!! ;)

For all the Minnie-ers - I have a secret... I think I almost have DH convinced to do the Minnie... yes, I know it's girls' weekend, but if he does it, I can come, too (along with Billy and the newest WISH baby). I assured him that he needed the complete medal collection, and I already have the inaugural medal from last year. I also told him this was his only chance since I would be doing it next year (and hopefully for many years after), and he would have baby duty! :thumbsup2

I had a doctor appt. and the baby is good! We have the 3D ultrasound next week, then a regular ultrasound in a month. Yea! I also managed to do some cross-training today. I took all the ornaments and most of the garland off the Christmas Tree, then finished unpacking our suitcases from the marathon... Ummmm, so I'm a little slow... :rolleyes1 I figure I have get some sort of exercise in now in order to be fast enough to keep up with DH in January. Gotta protect his booty! :lmao:

;) Lynnda

I already have a "pig" medal from the Hogeye marathon. At one point all of my races were animal themes (goofy - whatever he is, Cowtown and Hogeye) This year I think i'm doing that free 50k and then 2 weeks later is a 50k i've always wanted to do. Neither have animal themes:confused3

Went swimming today for about .75 miles. It is about 20deg for a high here today and the indoor pool room was soooooooo cold. After i got into it it wasn't too bad. At least i got something done!!

Kevin - so happy to see you back in action!!!! I really missed not getting to meet you in person.

That pig medal looks awfully tempting...

I had a personal request to add a Minnie '08 to the WISH racing clippies. This is in no means meant to compete with the longstanding Minnie Women Run the World clippie.

Oh, cool! We’re talking about the Flying Pig! Go figure—I have a busy afternoon of meetings and I come back to find two pages of Minnie vs Flying Pig.

Ok, I can definitely attest to the fun of the Flying Pig if anyone is contemplating doing it. Of course, I’ve done the half and not the full, but I’m sure the full course is great as well. As Krista said, the course isn’t flat, so be ready for a few hills, even on the half course. The crowd support is great. The magnitude of the event isn’t near on a “Disney-esque scale,” but then again, most marathons aren’t. I think they had about 9,000 people do it last year, probably over 10,000 will do it this year. Definitely professionally run and supported, I didn’t feel there was any lack of food/water/medical support throughout the course. The medal is definitely a cool one to have.
And if Krista is serious about us all going to Montgomery Inn BBQ afterwards, I’m excited already!

Dave (or anyone else interested)—ok, as far as hotels, there are a lot of options. There are some really good hotels on the Kentucky side of the river (less than a mile from the start line, although I wouldn’t recommend walking to the start). Check hotels in Convington, KY and Newport, KY. The expo is held at the Northern Kentucky Convention Center, which is right in Covington. You probably don’t want to stay in any hotels that are on the Ohio side of the river from about 2 miles north of downtown through about 10 miles north of downtown (along I-75), because they could be hit or miss, and there’s a couple of not-so-good areas through there. Anything north of the 10 mile mark on I-75 is just fine. If you guys have a hotel in question, let Krista or I know and we can tell you if it’s a good area or not.

Oh, I’m so excited that we might get a WISH group for the race! If we do indeed get a decent size group, Krista and I can figure out places we can meet before, during, after the marathon, especially for dinner, etc.

I guess I know what Krista and I will be planning tonight… :)

Here I am 2 days in a row--that could be a record for me!

Hmmm, I love them both--can we get this for 07 and I will alternate them:thumbsup2

Colleen-you have to come to the Minnie!!!!! It will be a great girls weekend. And I have heard that the Pig is very hilly.......now don't medals with bows, shopping and pedicures sound better?!

BTW, I think mom & I are staying at POR. Where is everyone else staying? I have us registered & am researching flights right now.

Krista-ditch the guys & come with us! You've got a pig medal, you need a Minnie in your collection!::MinnieMo

I have my new furniture!! It looks awesome. Now I have to figure out what color to paint the den, what flooring to put in the living room, yada, yada.

Heather-I am so sorry your coworkers are jerks! You did awesome and anyone that has any slight concept of what you accomplished would agree!

I have had a few people, when they found out I had done some 1/2's , ask me if I ran or walked. When they found out I mostly walked their response was "oh" like it was no big deal and anyone could do it. So I know what you guys mean, however, I have NEVER had that response from a runner or anyone that new anything at all about the distance. They have always been supportive. So the moral is, the people that belittle the accomplishment should be totally ignored & brushed off because they are usually couch potatoes that have no idea what they are talking about.

Kevin-so glad you are back & feeling better! We missed you! I know how hard it must have been for you but congrats on moving on & looking foward to next year.

Cam-that is so cool what your partners did for you. I've never asked, what kind of law do you practice? I would go to a dr. & see if you can get some relief & maybe it would help them heal faster too! We have less than 4 months till the next WISH meet, gotta get better!

wow, it is hard to keep up with all the posts. I go to work and come home and there is 4 pages of posts!

i went out for a 3 mile jog today, I felt great, and finished in 28:49 min. My question is: When you first started out training for a half/full marathon, did any of you ever doubt yourself sometimes that you would be able to run that far? Today, on my run, it was VERY cold and windy, and my legs felt great going 3 miles, but all I kept thinking was "omg--13.1 miles is a LONG way, and I couldn't even fathom doing 26.2". I know with training I can do it, but has anybody ever felt like this sometimes, and if so what do you do to make yourself feel better?

Yesterday, I took everyone's advice and went to a local running store, and I got the best service. They measured my feet and brought out A LOT of different shoes to try on. I tried them on, went outside to run up and down the street. I finally decided on the Nike Pegasus, they just felt the best on my feet and my orthotics fit comfortably inside. I also ended up buying some running clothes. The bottom line is, I ended up spending A LOT more money than I had anticipated I would, but oh well it was worth it!!!

JUDY-you are right about your paycheck disappearing in the running shop....I know the feeling now!!

Laurie

I took an hour muscle madness class this morning and was suppose to take another hour class tonight, but I'm too bushed! Haven't walked in a week, but have been keeping up with my exercise classes.

There are LOTS of posts!
I have heard that the Flying Pig is a very FUN event...isn't there a full and 1/2? In fact, I have been told the full was one of the most fun marathons ever....More than 1 person has told me this. When is this event?

Anywho....
Kevin - I am so glad you are back. Really have missed you. Glad you are all healed up and doing Goofy 08!;)

Where is Jodi? Have we heard from her at all? Have I missed her post? I want to know how her marathon/1/2 went.

Been at rehearsal all day today and going back for another show rehearsal tonight.:dance3: I an with a childrens theatre doing TheLittle Red Hen....:cool2:
Ran 3+ mile yesterday and walked 2+ with DDs (and had a picnic). Just rehearsed today...but that includes dancing.:dance3:
I am just tired...will really get back into everything soon..Have a 15 mile "Shirt Run" on the 27th

Monica and Christy, Way to go!! Baby steps..you are starting a lifetime habit..you are doing great! Keep it up!
Laurie, Laurie,Laurie ...PLEASE go easy on yourself!!! Just look at this week's LR and no further! You are training to train!! You've got to build your endurance up, it's NOT going to happen overnight!! We want you to be injury free. NONE of us ever thought we could complete a half marathon or marathon when we first started training!! We hoped we could..but with PATIENCE comes the reward. This is my first complete year of training. I was amazed every Saturday (LR day for me) when the plan called for 4, 6, 8, 10 miles and I did them!! Please don't push too fast too soon! So glad you got good shoes!
Lynnda, So glad things are going well with the little WISHer. DH is signed up for the Minnie, too! It'll be so great to have you out there!

Sunny - Thanks for the Minnie clippie. I kinda like a matched set.

This afternoon I did my first run since Goofy, about 3 miles. I'll be going back to yoga tonight after a 6 week break.

Sounds like everyone is looking to their next event.

Laurie - Ditto what Anne said. Take one wek at a time. If you can't comprehend the LR of teh week, just take one step at a time. In 5 months, there will still be people doubting the distance and the pace, it will come, though. You know what? At one point during the marathon this year, I thought about how many homore hours I had to go at the pace I was doing. I almost started to hyperventilate it freaked me out so bad. This is my second one and i know better than that. So, you are nto alone in your feelings at all. One mroe tip. Start memorizing the course map now. Don't think of it in terms of sdistance, ust teh route. If it overwhelms you, stop. You have plenty of time for that. The better you know the route and teh more benchmarks you have to work towards, teh better you will do race day. FOr example, here are mine race day. Start, Epcot, loop, TTC, MK, FLoridian way (scream teams), half way point, AK, Bridge 1, bridge 2, WWoS, MGM, BW (scream terams), WS, FW, ball, choir, finish. I just kept workign towards the next point. SOrry for teh ramble.

monica - You rock!

I think we're on tap for 30 minutes tonight. Hoping my knee is recovered. Not sureif we're doing TM or outside. Neither is a geat option right now. It will be dark, though, so we might not see the ice. SHould probably stick to TM. :(

There is a full and a half marathon, both on Sunday, May 6th. I did the half last year and I can attest that it's LOTS of fun!!

Hi Everyone!

Sorry, I haven't been on since Marathon weekend. Krista dropped a PM saying everyone was looking for me.

The day of the Marathon (afterwards) I started to feel not-so-great; felt like I was getting a cold. My husband and I spent the day in Magic Kingdom the Marathon and most of day I had a itchy throat most of the day.....I kept on saying "Bob, I really feel like I'm getting a cold." He assured me, it was probably because of all of work I had done with a marathon and a half.

Well.....for once, he was wrong (and he thinks he's so smart:goodvibes ) -- I did have a cold and have been fighting it off eversince. Today is the first I've felt decent. Last week it was pretty much come home from work, go to bed.

The half went pretty good, it only took me about a half hour more than it took me to run the Hartford Marathon. The Marathon, well I finished it but I didn't do as well as I wanted to -- I finished in 6 hours and 26 minutes....but I guess that's a starting point for me.

My tendonitis was bugging me a litte bit during the full, but other than that felt great. Hey, was anyone else in the bunch of people where Disney ran out of water for close to 4 stops straight?

Looks like if everything goes well -- my friend and I will be doing Goofy again in 2009 (can't afford 2008 -- as much as I wish). She'll be doing Goofy in 2008, or so she says.

I do plan on doing the Hartford Marathon in October :goodvibes . Thanks Everyone.....you all got me addicted. BTW -- My friend plans on flying in from Florida for that one.

I have so much catching up to do with all of you.

Okay -- here are some photo's from Marathon weekend:
