Wk of Feb 3rd-- WISH Walking/Running Club

Today I scored another 10-mile long run in 1:54, one minute slower than my 10-miler just before the WDW half:headache: ...so I need to actually do my mid-week runs to improve my speed :rolleyes1 But hey, I mowed the lawn right after my run today, so I got in 30 minutes of cross-training, right? :goodvibes

EVERYONE will love this: I finally reviewed my WDW Half data from my Garmin, and it had the right total time (2:53), but my total mileage was 20.12 miles!!! :cool1:

Better yet, one of my last laps has an average speed of 3,600 mph!!:woohoo:

Just call me Daschal Robert Parr, thank you!! I musta whipped out thru AK and the Studios and back without my running partner even realizing it (Erin thought I was just going to the bathroom in MK - little did she know!).

I heard sometimes the Garmins barf, but this one was quite entertaining :rotfl:

Hello,
Welcome Carol we are a great bunch.
Cam- What do you think it would take to get Jen to post on the boards? I am sorry to hear that you have a hard case.
Howard- Way to go on that long hike. I hope classes go as well for you as they are for me.
Jeff- Wow you really were not gone that long.

Well today was slated to be a rest day but then xterratri said she was going to run 40 minutes so I figured I should bike for 40 minutes. You know healthy competition and all:rolleyes1 . Took a quiz that opened and closed today during the Coverage of the super bowl. It was really easy though, all my classes are online and my professors seem to think that Fridays and weekends are great times to have quizes. I do not see their logic. Well nothing else to report.
Erin

I did 6 miles on the treadmill today in roughly 70 minutes. I'm thinking about running every other day rather than 3 days a week from now on. I think I have good mileage on my legs and that will help preparing for goofy when the time comes to get after it in September.

CarolA -- WELCOME!! :welcome:

WOW!! that is amazing!!! You two continue to amaze me at what wonderful parents/role models/people you are!!! :)

Kathy

Oh, you are so sweet!!

Thank you to everyone for the good WISHes on my new case. It is exciting and intimidating!

I've passed your congrats on to Jenn and she was all "I  the WISH team!" Erin -- I am definitely working on getting her to post here.

I also read Andrew all of your congratulatory messages and praise. It means a lot to him! Two really important things happened in connection wtih his task: Howard said that Andrew never once said he was tired or wanted to quit, even when he was limping along. When I called him to congratulate him and told him to ice his knees he said, "Wow, Mom, I have a whole new appreciation of what you do. I am so impressed that you went even further than that!" Tonight he showed me his Garmin and said that he couldn't believe how hard it was to do those miles and he wasn't anywhere near marathon pace. I reminded him that training brings speed and endurance and that I am so proud of what he accomplished. Oh, and I told him again to ICE his knees! :)

Howard - Appreciates his what his mother does but trains like his father! Nice job for the both of you. Also, congrats to Cam for landing a big case! Oh, and also to Jenn for starting off strong.

Mike -- that made me laugh!! You're right. I can't believe they didn't build up to the distance. I fear Howard is not setting a good example!

WOOHOO DH was the Scoutmaster for over 7 years, both our boys acheived Eagle Scout - not an easy feat - and we know for a fact that Hiking (and Cycling) are THE hardest merit badges to acheive!! WTG!! :lovestruc Love when they can appreciate the "parents" !

Thank you Sandy! I am really impressed that Andrew is pressing on toward Eagle Scout. And I'm really grateful that Howard is investing the time to help him.

So, I had the perfect excuse not to go into work today --Obama was speaking on the square outside my building and the secret service/security issues prohibited anyone from being in my building. So, I was able to go with Howard to the beach -- 2 hours away -- to plunge into the very cold (though not as cold as many past years) Atlantic Ocean. All of this for our love and support for Special Olympics. It was Howard's tenth year doing it and my fifth or sixth (I couldn't the years that my heart condition was uncontrolled, so I usually held the towels). The turnout was great because the weather was relatively mild. I think it was 50 degrees by plunge time at 1pm and the water temp was a balmy 42.

Here's we are pre-plunge, trying to condition ourselves to the cold and wind (LOL):

Post-plunge, looking a bit chilly (Howard didnt' want to stand back up because the wind was so cold):

And these guys who called themselves the Pirate Plungers, were wearing WISH green shirts and carrying bathroom plungers. :lmao:

Hello everyone!

Got up bright and early to head to gym for long walk on TM. Didn't work out exactly the way I wanted as my calf started to tighten up pretty bad. Still managed to get in 1.75 before having to stop. Better than nothing. Got some good stretching in and it's been ok rest of day.

Bought TM and exerbike for house so spent the afternoon lugging them down to basement, re-arraning the space then lugging the boxes and all the freakin packing material back up. Oh and managed to make lasagna in the middle of it all.

Howard & Cam- what a great accomplishment for your son! As for the polar bear plunge... they do that here in Chicago on NY's day. I love to swim but do require it to be farther above freezing.

Jeff - Some serious lap time, dude! I'm currently looking into a Garmin 205 - wonder if my time will immediately improve...

CarolA - Welcome!

Hope everyone has a good start to a new week!

THIS IS FOR DH:

:woohoo: THE NY GIANTS ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!:woohoo:

Whether you like them or not or whether you like football or not, the play where Manning held on and came up on his feet and threw the ball, then that receiver held on to that ball like he wanted it more than anything is a good example of what can happen when you want something bad enough!!!!

OK off the soapbox now

I love the NY Giants. :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Steve

Me, too. Man, that was a beautiful play, wasn't it? The first 3 quarters were dull, but at least they moved fast. And that 4th quarter -- wow! I love a good close game; there have been so many blow-outs in recent years.

Oh, and Bill: :flower3: As a lifelong Mets fan, I feel your pain.

Bill As a USF fan who went through major ups and downs this football season I really am sorry your team lost. To be honest I did not think they were going to win :confused3 I really am sorry.

I'm new to this WISH thing, so please forgive me for barging in.

Hi all you Atlanta folks!!:grouphug: I grew up in Atlanta watching the Peachtree from the comfort of my couch! :happytv: I'm impressed that you can do that. I talked with my mom this weekend and she told me about Piedmont Park not letting the race end there due to the drought. She said that their grass got ruined last year, and they can't water it to repair it. so they don't want all the people there. :confused3 I am anxious to see what they come up with. Well, I never EVER imagined that I would EVER be interested in running it, until now. I've only been running since August, and had to take a couple of months off due to a freak injury, so I've not been running long, and don't know if I could do it. That hill in front of Piedmont Hospital, scares me. :scared1: I'm not familiar with Heartattack Hill except in name only. :confused3 The name alone scares me though. My sister, BIL, and niece have all run it. My niece had to stop last year due to finding out she had diabetes, and didn't have her sugar regulated by the time of the race. I know this year is out for me because I will be white water rafting with my son and his church youth group that day, but maybe next year. :rolleyes1 Plus that will give me a year to train for it. I always grew up thinking it was a half marathon. :rotfl2: It seems like much further than 6.2 miles from Lenox down to Piedmont.

Oh, and I'm not a football fan, but that was one AWESOME game! Congrats GIANTS!!!

Welcome!

And you can always do what I did. WALK up that hill. (I did joke with the guys in scrubs that was it REALLy necessary for them to be waiting on me)

On the other side... the folks at the Shepard Center come out to cheer you on..... :worship: Reminds you of exactly how lucky you are that you can at least walk that hill!

(And what a game. Go GIANTS!)

OH

MY

GOSH!!!!!!!!!

My boys won! (sorry Bill and other N.E. friends). BUT...OMG....:cloud9: :cheer2:

I have been a fan since childhood and never ever ever EVER expected the season to turn out this way. Incredible game!!!

WAY TO GO GIANTS...they did us proud!!!! Just got home...not sure I can sleep tonight!!!

:AmyBeth - You don't know Mike very well. It's not me who is embarassed to do pilates - It's the idea of Mike participating in the class that might cause some concern. :rotfl: Maybe I'll be brave enough and take a class with him next week!

Yeah...drag him into class. At least you'll be entertained ;). Pilates is easy Mike...no worries! :thumbsup2
Amy - She'll probably insist that we don't drive together and will act like she doesn't know me then laugh with the other ladies in the locker room afterwards.:rotfl:

Kathy - :lovestruc  :flower3:

Kristi - Stay out of this!!

Good early morning Team.

A rule reminder for the miles game, you may NOT lynch your Panda for trash talking. So remember that.:) Not that I ever would but just in case.

We went to bed early and didn't watch the last quarter of the super bowl, looks like we missed an exciting ending.

Sounds like everyone is doing great getting their steps in this week, I bet there will be a lot of PRs this week.

Question: Will there be a regular WISH shirt order this year? Several people have asked me about the regular wish shirt in the T-Shirt and not the tank. I personally like the Tank for racing but the T for wearing to the meets.

Have a great morning guys. (Even you bunnies, buzzies and goof offs) (I suppose that Bill is going to have more time for training now that football season is over.)

Social Panda:hippie:

WTG Giants!! (and Bill, I'm a Cub fan, and a BEARS fan, I feel your pain!!)

Bill - you still need to get up and do ten minutes!! No excuses!! I'm with you...

CarolA, do you think then if I can put both of our apps in the same evenlope that I can also combine it into one check?

Good Morning Everyone!!

A big :welcome: to all the new folks we have joining in!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I apologie for not being around as much as I would have liked the past couple of weeks... my poor ailiing laptop finally gave out on me and thus, I didn't have much access to post.

My once again epic race report is nearly done and should be posted sometime tomorrow. I just want to thank everyone out there once again for making marathon weekend what it was... it was incredible!!

So incredible that I have once again registered to go Goofy next year. Something about what happened during the full is sticking in my craw a little and would like to finish a little better next year. (Not necessarily faster, mind you... but I would like to be smiling in at least one of my pics....)

What's the deal with the team thing?? I'm feeling left out :(

Howard and Cam-- I refused to go into the ocean yesterday because it was "too cold" here in Fort Lauderdale. Thank you for making me feel like a first class, grade-A weenie. ;)

I am still trying to decide on a next race, so right now training is a bit sporadic... just a few miles here and there. I really need to be training for something in order to really get out there.... gotta find a race to train for this week....

Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:
