Wk of Feb 3rd-- WISH Walking/Running Club

CarolA, do you think then if I can put both of our apps in the same evenlope that I can also combine it into one check?

We did, thats why it was in one mailing.

Kevin- Don't forget that we want you to join us for the Minnie!

Cam & Howard- Great job on the Polar Bear Plunge! You guys look fantastic! Plungers huh? :rolleyes1 I think I'll stick with cowbells.

Krista & Steven- Great news on hearing the baby's heartbeat!

Jeff- I am so impressed with your pace for the 1/2 and the mileage too. ;) Sometimes the Garmin makes me want to scream! :scared1:

Have a great day everyone!

Good Morning Everyone!

That was an amazing win for the Giants. My first memory of american television is watching the Giants play: My uncle played for the Giants in the dark ages and we were watching them play the Redskins(?) in his basement. I had never seen football (or a TV that was actually IN someone's HOUSE.) I felt bad for the Patriots though, what a tough way to end an amazing season.

Shan - Same envelope just make sure you have enough postage on there. I don't think the post office matters. I mail mine from Alpharetta and haven't had a problem.

Angie -Way to go!! and no, that is not sick, it does feel good.

TXAng - Ok I am confused. Are you feeling guilty for not exercising when you just had a baby? My "baby" is almost 8 and I still use him as an excuse not to exercise somedays. You will know when you are ready to start walking again. The grey fog of exhaustion will get thinner and you will crave the outdoors. It will happen in due time, meantime, no guilt allowed. Get your rest when you can.

Biggertigger - Yep, you took the space shuttle to the finish line.

ALdisneygirl - Welcome! As for Heartattack Hill, the first time I ran the peachtree I asked a guy at the top of the hill "Where is that big hill everyone is worried about?" I never even felt it. I was mad that I had been conserving energy for it when I had already topped it. Don't let the name scare you, they call it that because there is a hospital at the top of the hill.

Hi everyone!

I'm working towards running the Minnie 15K in May and eventually the 1/2 marathon in 09. This is my first time running for anything other than the bus so I'm taking things slowly. I'm doing most of my training on a treadmill until it warms up outside. I've worked my way up from running 2 minutes/walking 5 minutes to the running 5 minutes and walking 2. I'm hoping by the time I reach May, I'll be able to run most of the course!

Definitely looking forward to reading about everyone else and the progress they're making :)

DeeKayPee (Debra)--I think what I love most about Power Pump is that is makes me lift weights, something I have never done on my own.

Krista and Steve--Congrats!! That is such an exciting event!!

Mel--Great job on getting those miles in. The weather around here is difficult. If you go out too early it is cold (well, cold to us Florida people), but if you wait too long it is HOT!!!

Howard--WOW, that is a lot of walking

Lisa--I am trying to add both weight lifting (with the above mentioned Power Pump--I am hoping that soon I can do it 2 days per week) and Cardio other than running/walking 2 days a week

Bill--Sorry for your loss last night

Amy--I used to go to Spin and I really liked it, but I can not get any of the class times to work in my schedule right now:sad1:

CarolA--WELCOME!!! We have a Garmin 205 and I can not imagine running without it. My DH uses a Camelpack, I just either carry a water bottle, or leave some along my path before I go out.

Renee--Great run, you will have no problem doing a Half in April!!

Kristi--I am sure that Yoga class will get easier, keep it up!

Angie--Good for you! I am sure it was a great feeling getting back out there for a good run!

TxAng--You are so right, time with the baby will continue to fly by!

Jeff--WOW you were really moving during the half:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Erin--Way to go not letting your sister get in miles without you!! I LOVED taking online classes in college!!

Chris--Another great run for you, your commitment is really amazing!

Liz--Good job on getting something in and stopping when you felt pain!

Angie--That play in the 4th quarter was heartstopping, I could not believe he (eli) stayed on his feet and that the receiver caught the ball. It was a very exciting 4th quarter!

aldisneygrl--WELCOME!!

Sandi--I am a lifetime Cubs fan as well, I know the feeling of heartbreak oh so well!

Kevin--Thanks for checking in!

bunnyfoo--You are are doing great! Are you following any kind of training plan or just following your body?? We will see you at the Minnie!

I think I got everyone! It is another crazy day around here. We just finished school and now we are going to the park with Church Friends, and then I am off to work at the gym. I am hoping to get some time in on the bike after I get off work. Then dinner and bed!!!

Have a great day!

Wow!!!! I'm so glad I stopped by this morning. You are all so supportive of one another. I was feeling kind of lazy this morning after getting the kiddos off, but now I have the motivation to get down on that treadmill.:cool1: I'm reading all the posts about yoga and remembering how much I loved it. My littlest one (he's 2) does not like the nursery situations.....so I'm doing all my workouts at home. I have a great Pilates DVD, but does anyone have suggestions for a good Yoga DVD? I'm looking for something relaxing, but a bit of a challenge as well. I'm hoping someone can help. Stay strong everyone and have a great day.

No plan per say right now, I'm just working on being able to run for at least 10 minutes straight. I think once I can do that, I'll focus on distance (instead of time - right now I'm doing my running/walking intervals for 30 minutes). I'm hoping that will happen in a week or so :)

I have the motivation problem a lot since I mostly run on the weekends. It's funny because I usually stop by the WISH board before heading down to my treadmill ... I usually feel more inspired after reading about everyone else's progress :goodvibes

good morning all!

trying to get motivated to get some TM time in after the Super Bowl party last night, just a little tired today:)
we are having a heat wave today and tomorrow in the 50"s:woohoo:
maybe I will try and get some time in outsideprincess:

Krista & Steve – Congratulations on hearing that heartbeat! :woohoo: It is definitely something you will never forget.
Cam – Congratulations to Jenn on her 5k & Andrew on his 20mile hike. Congratulations to you & Howard on the Polar Bear Plunge into the icy Atlantic. John & Sean used to do the Polar Bear Plunge here in Jersey, but they haven’t done it the last couple of years do to other commitments. Also, congratulations to you on your big case.:thumbsup2
Kristi – Great job on the yoga class. Hope you’re not feeling too sore today. And…congrats to Chad on the new running shoes & socks.:upsidedow
TXAnge – Don’t blink….he’ll be graduating high school. Time really does go by fast.
Vic – Hope you are feeling better. Take care of yourself.:wizard:
Lily – I’m sorry I seem to have missed that you are having surgery. Hopefully it is nothing too serious. :wizard: & Best Wishes for a speedy recovery.

Welcome to all the newbies!

As for me…..after being sick for almost 2 weeks with a bronchial/asthma/sinus infection thing, I finally got back out there on Friday. Went to the gym & did an easy 45 min on the recumbent, then Saturday got out on the streets for a slow & easy 3.2 miles. It felt GREAT. Yesterday was a rest day, but we went out & did some geocaching.

Have a GREAT Day!

Greetings all -

Say, was there a football game yesterday??? :confused3

Did no training this weekend. Nothing. Matter of fact, I'm still trying to figure out just what the heck DID I do this weekend. It was a blur of activity and chaos.

I did, however, do 40 on the TM this morning. :thumbsup2

Krista and Steve - Was that a resting heartbeat? Congratulations! That is very exciting!

Howard - Wow, that is fabulous! Way to go, Andrew! :woohoo: And way to appreciate what your 'rents do even more now! Yay!

WWDave
- I need a model for my new line of XT apparel...Any volunteers?? It required BYOBatteries and abillity to operate a tiny lock and key. :rolleyes1

NEPBill - I see I need to start on the weekly thread a little earlier. It's only Monday and look at all I've missed. :rolleyes2

Vic - Oh I hope you are feeling better. Is Nurse Marilyn giving you lots of TLC??

OptimatorMike - Please please go to Pilates. Please. It will be good for you. :rolleyes1

Kathy - I'll PM you. I have a Super Secret Spy Camera. He'll never know. ;)

Kristi - Oh you're so good, taking that class. I REALLY have to find some XT. I mean, other than what those guys think I am doing.

Jeff - Wow, you are totally supersonic!

Cam - OMG I am shivering just thinking about yesterday! Great pictures! :goodvibes

Kevin - OK Kevin, I know for sure that Charlie has absolutely no way of influencing you. He had nothing to do at all with you registering for the Goofy. Is that correct? He has been accused of influencing certain male members of the WISH team. I believe the term was "throwing down the gauntlet." OK, I'll wait for that race report because I know it will be worth it.popcorn::

TXAng - Thanks for the well wishes.

Karen - Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Cam and Howard - Y'all ain't right. ;)

Judy said:

Feeling much better, thanks.

Marilyn took care of me when she got home from work. In the meantime I had nurse Earnhardt and nurse Dusty providing the TLC. However, their idea of TLC is laying on top of you. Doesn't work too well when you can't breathe. :rotfl:

CONGRATULATIONS **REAL** GIANTS FANS!!! (I guess that now includes Giantsf/k/aSteelersSteve--gotta love a guy who sticks with a winner:thumbsup2 .)

I appreciate those expressing support, but no need. The Patriots had a great season (other than the last game of course) and as a life long Patriots and Red Sox fan, I wouldn't give up this decade for anything (especially seeing how well the teams did from 1919 through 2000). As to the Patriots, that includes a colorful past with ownership by the Sullivan family and Victor "Would You Buy a Razor from This Guy" Kiam and coaching stints by, among other NFL luminaries, Rod Rust and Dick McPhearson.

Please indulge me though as I express some personal thoughts on yesterdays events. My highlights of yesterday include:

*DD#2, after the game was over, quieting a group of disgruntled (adult) Patriots fans arguing over whether it was the offense's fault or the defense's fault the team lost by stating: "They are a team. The whole team wins and the whole team loses." :thumbsup2 (Maybe some things I say do get through.)

*Watching Big Ben (go Steelers) make a fool out of himself in a commercial and realizing things are good as a Patriots fan. We were in the Super Bowl and even in the years our team hasn't made it, Patriots players making millions of dollars a year don't embarrass themselves or the organization for the sake of making a few extra bucks.

*The Patriots were involved in another riveting Super Bowl that was not decided until the end.

*The Mayor of Boston doesn't have to worry about when to hold the parade and whether it will conflict with the Presidential primaries.

Weekend low lights include:

* A US Senator (from the Commonwealth where the Steelers call home), during a time when US military personnel are deployed around the world and are making the ultimate sacrifice, the nation's economy is going in the tank, and gas, home heating oil and related petroleum product prices are out of control, grand-stands and decides that the US Senate really needs to spend time holding hearings on why the NFL destroyed game films taken out in the open by the Patriots in violation of an NFL rule (not in violation of the US Constitution or any Federal law, regulation, guideline, suggestion or wish) and equates such a henious act to the CIA (a Federal government agency) destroying evidence. Man, things must be going really well and things must be slow in DC and the rust-belt.

*Coach Bill walking off the field with time left on the clock. I know it was only 1 second, but you stay until the game is over, win or lose, especially when you are the head coach and representing the organization.

*Not trying to single out Coach Bill (even though the Patriots were, IMHO, outcoached), but what was up with the new red hoodie? As soon as I saw him wearing it, I said he jinxed the team. He needed to wear the old, ratty, gray hoodie, even if it was the Super Bowl.

Now I can hunker down on my distance event career (at least until Red Sox pitchers and catchers report to spring training in approximately 9 days 20 hours and 20 minutes).

Struggling to catch up....you guys really move fast here!

I can't possibly comment on everyone, but did want to congratulate Krista and Steve on hearing the baby's heartbeat. I think that awaiting the birth of your first child is truly the most magical time of anyone's life. Enjoy and cherish these moments.

Cam and Howard: wow, you are marathoners AND polar bears! That is something I really want to do. My plan is to do it next January 1st somewhere up around Albany NY, but my husband is totally dead set against it. My feeling is if I can train for a marathon for a whole year I can plunge my body into frigid waters for 2 minutes, right? I'm sure it won't seem so easy when I actually get on the beach! WTG, both of you!

I wanted to thank everyone for their comments on the leisurely 19/20 mile stroll my DS (Andrew) and I took on Saturday. It was a huge undertaking for him and shouldn't have been too difficult for me. I managed it well but I could have done some things a bit smarter, shoe choice, warmer clothing, gloves, etc.). :confused3 I live and learn.

I can't wait until later this week when Andrew is recognized at his Court of Honor for having attained "Life" rank. I am very proud of him and his efforts.

Thanks again for your kind words.

:grouphug:

Well said Bill! :thumbsup2 What an incredible, edge of your seat game. I was literally burying my head in the pillow from stress! And yes...walking onto the field at 1 sec was stunning to me. I know...game was over...but still. :confused3 The Patriots still had an AMAZING season! Eli Manning..OMG! And as a lifelong Yankees and Giants fan....well....let's just say I *really* need this ;). Been a tough few years. :goodvibes

Has anyone taken spin class? Did you find it helped your running? Were you really sore after the first class?

I do cycle (when it's warmer) and work out a lot, etc. But for some reason I'm really worried about spin class on Wednesday LOL! I fear I won't be able to do it!!! For those that have taken class before a few questions...

Did you wear your padded bike shorts? Did you use a special gel seat that you brought with you? Were you really sore afterwards? Special shoes?

Thanks! :goodvibes

Hey, I figured I had to get a jab in somewhere, even if it was a cheap shot. ;) No, in all seriousness Bill, I do offer my condolences. I know all too well what it's like to be a huge fan and then see a seemingly unstoppable team have a bad game at the wrong time. Trust me, I wouldn't dislike the Pats so much if you guys weren't the team who usually beat my boys in those types of games in years past. :)

Yeah, the Roethlisberger commercial--I actually thought it was kind of funny, but he IS an aweful singer and pretty much did look like an idiot.

And I agree about Coach Bill's red hoodie. What the heck?? :confused3 As much as I like to poke fun at the homeless looking hoodie, you gotta dance with the girl who brung ya. Wear the gray one. No question about it.

Honestly, as hard as it is for me to admit, you guys had a great season and I hope it will be remembered that way. (Now please don't tell any other Steeler fans you know that a fellow Steeler fan is saying kind words about the Pats. I may be lynched). :)

Steve

Matter of fact, I'm still trying to figure out just what the heck DID I do this weekend. It was a blur of activity and chaos.

Judy -- You've got me waiting with breathless anxiety for those webcasts to start, and you keep turning up the intrigue and heat as well. popcorn::

I can't wait until later this week when Andrew is recognized at his Court of Honor for having attained "Life" rank. I am very proud of him and his efforts.

Next stop -- EAGLE!!!

Congratulations Cam, Howard and all those who have children in scouting. I greatly enjoyed scouting way back when and am happy my son decided to join cub scouts and, at least so far, also seems to enjoy participating (although it could be just that it gives him a chance to get away from his 3 sisters and hang out with "the guys" :confused3 ).

Yeah yea, you WISH! :rotfl:

Check this out though....We now have "Beam me up, Scottie!" technology at work! We can send a holographic image to a meeting instead of actually attending. How cool is THAT!????

Imagine the possibilities...... :lmao:

OK could I possibly get any MORE off topic???? :upsidedow

My youngest is in Brownies now and I'm so sorry I didn't put my older daughter in it. I can't believe all the stuff she has done already. I'm very impressed. I did Brownies when I was little and alot has changed!

BTW, DD is now up to 344 boxes of cookies! I'm a tad scared about collecting the money and how I'm gonna get these all delivered... :scared:
