Wk of Feb 18--WISH Walking/Running Club

Kevin - Happy birthday!!!!!

Dave - what???? 4 inch heels???? What are you talking aobut!!

Christa - I've done a little more thinking on the honking subject. I had a revelation on the way back home from dropping the boy off at school. I didn't hav time to get ready this morning, so i look terrible. Anyway, this work truck comes by w/ 3 men in it and they are all eyeing me?? Then it hit me.... Here they are, all doing their manly job and they are crammed into a tiny space (three in the front seat of a truck). Their man body space is already being invaded, they can't chit chat w/ each other or that would just make it look like they don't mind their body space being invaded, so they find a girl and all look at her. This makes them feel less silly about having to sit next to each other on the bench seat of a pick up truck!!!! (that is my current theory, besides the obvious that you are young and pretty!) I still don't have one to explain why the guys complimented EC's coon dog and didn't cat call us at all a few weeks ago!!!

I'm planning on some orienteering today. I have been working on making the maps for our next meet. Man, i wish my background was in CAD! I'm going out w/ a GPS and my map and compass to put roads on the map and check to make sure the trail is accurate.

I had some workout trauma this week!!!! Phil and I took the kayaks out on Tues to the lake. We paddled to an island where he set out some orienteering points. We paddled back and loaded up the boats. We had 10mins to get to preschool to p/u boy. Then we hear this "thump, thump" and the next thing we know, the kayaks are sliding down the road (hwy 12) behind the car!!! Thankfully, there were no cars or people behind us. Anyway, my entire car roof rack came off, w/ kayaks strapped securely on!!?? It was crazy! I've called the rack manufacturer and they are replacing all of the parts (I think they are sending me about $700 worth of new stuff!) Needless to say, no kayaking for me this week!!!

Krista - ok, I just went back and looked! You are wearing 4 inch heels????? OUCH!!! I would break my ankle in those. I have noticed that women who consistantly wear high heels get really nice calves!

Melissa - OMG! Glad everythign worked out ok! (No cars or anythign to make the situation mmore dangerous)

Krista - You know how many times I've wished I was short? You a beautiful and kind person. No need to think you have to make yourself taller. I am comforted by teh fact that most of your heels are more reasonable, but really don't think you need anyhelp in the physical appearance department!

Good Morning Team!!!

Sorry I just feel so out of the loop, I can't keep track of evreyone...I feel horrible. I am trying to read all the posts, try to respond, get interupted by the time I get back there is a nother page of posting.....UUGGGHHHH. I love reading all the posts however.

Just checking in to say Hi....I think I saw a bunch of HAPPY BIRTHDAYS out there so happy birthday Kevin.!!!!! Great name that is my DS's name.

Interrupted again, Have a great morning all.

Kim

Good morning Team - :)

This morning I did 45 min @ 3.8 @ 1%. Nothing to write home about but hey, at least I did it. No more slacker days for me! I'm counting down to the Minnie. I can't afford to fool around anymore.

I was thinking I could get my L/R in outside this weekend but now we are having some sort of precip today. What we get depends on which direction it goes in, I suppose. Nuts. I could really use a L/R outside.

Stephanie - "pull a Carrie" OMG! :lmao:

Mike B. - I'm really glad to see you here. And it's my pleasure to do the team coordinating post. (I'll do anything to avoid real work at my job!) And I didn't mean to say your daughter is as mean as a snake. Honest. Sorry about that. :rolleyes1

Jim - My stepchildren refer to their father as "The walking talking ATM". No comment from me. :rolleyes2

Andrew - Ahh, tried to trick us did you? Say, have you been watching "Home Improvement"??? :rotfl2:

Krista - FOUR INCH HEELS??? Oh girl....I used to wear 3", but had to give that up after two foot surgeries to correct the damage. Please be careful. You're still young, but believe me, it takes it's toll. Does your IT band hurt you at night? When I lay on my right side I have a real "achy" pain running down the length of my thigh, and I suspect it's my IT band complaining.

Uh oh - To all our Mikes - Geez, I'm sorry I got you guys mixed up. It's not like me to confuse so many handsome men. :goodvibes (There. Does that make up for it??)

Kristi - I haven't yet had the pleasure of meeting Dave, but thanks for that lovely visual. :rotfl2:

I think we have to work a sports bra in there somewhere too right?

Dave - OMG please don't. :rotfl:

Kevin - HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Z.B.!!!!:cake: :love1: :bday: :yay:

Monica - Oh wow! Congratulations :yay: ....and Congratulations! :woohoo:

Melissa - Oh man! Thank goodness no one was behind you. Geez, what a pain now for you though.

Does anyone have an opinion of what the optimal range of miles a running shoe should have on it for a longer race? I have a couple pairs of Kayanos and a pair of Hurricanes in rotation, and I know the mileage on each. I'm wondering which would be the best pair to wear for the Minnie. Isn't it about 350-400 miles when they should be replaced? :confused3

Monte-- Congratulations! You will be a wonderful grandma, I can just tell. And kudos on the WL. Wow!:thumbsup2

MelR-- That's awful about your kayaks. Will $700 replace everything? Or are the kayaks ok?

Attention N.E. WISHers:
Is anyone intersted in trying this half?
Swanzey Covered Bridges Half Marathon

It looks really pretty. Applefest hasn't updated their info from 2006 but I probably would still do that one, too.

Sunny

ETA: Out of curiosity I started guessing at popular last names to see some photos of the course. Yikes, check out the runner/car situation in the bottom pics for this runner. Doesn't look nearly as appealing... I'm gonna have to think about this.

Good morning all!!

I'm..... I'm..... OLD!!! :duck:

All kidding aside, thank you all for the birthday wishes. I genuinely means a lot to me. I will have to say that 27 feels like it left a little to be desired, but I'm feeling really good about 28. I think it always helps to feel like it could be the start of something big.

Somehow, someway my schedule was magically cleared by someone yesterday until Tuesday and everything was nice and rescheduled for next week. but :woohoo: for me!!

I decided to get out and test myself a bit and ran 4 miles in 34:54 this morning. :faint: I guess the treadmill is working. (Or Craig is really on to something there...)

Angie-- Congrats on the new job!!

NUCPharm-- Re: running toe to heel-- OK, I might be dumb, but wouldn't they then have to roll back onto their tow in order to go forward?? Running toe to heal is how we run backwards. I can understand the running on the toes thing and people do that... but toe to heal??

Jen-- Great workout!! Way to Go!!

Judy-- Usually 350-400 miles is about right. That said, it can vary. I have a hard time replacing shoes I still think have life in them. Maybe it would make sense to rotate a new pair in and use the shoes with higher mileage on your shorter runs until they "faal" worn out. (I know, not all that helpful, huh? Must be my advanced age.... ;) )

Carrie-- Yeah, kinda glad I decided against that run :) That said, I loved the pics.. I knew exactly where that course runs. It's seriously way prettier in the summer, though. Maybe I will have to do Coast Guard this summer. (I need a race!!)

I think I've done enough shlubbing around this morning. I have a friend taking me to lunch and then I think I'll swing by the running store, since they are having a sale right now. Wow, I was way more exciting on my birthday when I was younger.

Thanks again everyone!
Happy training!
Kevin :earsboy:

Happy birthday to you!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: Seriously, the weather was better for me last weekend than in August. :rolleyes1

Sunny - I didn't see any cars. :confused3

Carrie--THANK YOU!!! I love you!!! You are my new best friend! :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Judi--The only time I get "phantom pains" is when it's really cold outside and my IT band just aches, it doesn't really hurt. I know I'm going to pay for my heels and my flip flops some day....

Kevin-- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I can finally say it to somebody: you aren't old!!! (but I know exactly how you feel, I cried when I turned 25 and I'm not looking forward to turning 29 this July)

Can you guys tell I'm not nearly as crazy busy this week at work? I'm still busy, but I'm just ignoring my work to take breaks. ;)

You know, I'm just going to put this out there. I'm just going to say it. So you guys will know why you are NOT getting any sympathy from me.

I'm going to be 46 in May. :scared:

I have no idea how this happened.

Sunny - I didn't see any cars. :confused3

That's weird. I just followed the link, too. It's not the single runner page that I was at when I copied and pasted the link. The single runner page is last name = Black.

Well, I'm glad that I'm not the "baby" around here! Seems like everyplace I've worked in the past, I was the youngest. I used to get these looks "SHE'S the pharmacist???" And then they would ask for the man-pharmacist.
Anyway, HAPPY BIRTHDAY KEVIN!!! You "old" man you!!!:cool1: :cool1:

Well, I just got back from my xtraining today. I decided to try out the Gliding Harmony class again, as the regular teacher was back. Really an interesting class--you use these discs, look sort of like upside down frisbees, use them for resistance and strength training--by sliding your feet and hands out. And then I did 30 min. on the elliptical machine. I'm getting some more foot pain--different foot and different pain than before. I talked to the personal trainer at the club and she thought it might be PF. But the pain is in the soft tissue on the outside of my foot--odd--some rest and ice in my future!

Okay, guys if I start to lose it in the next few days, please bear with me. My 1st marathon is in 9 days and I'm already starting to get nauseous, and the doubt is starting to creep in! Here are some quotes that made me feel a little better this am

"You're better than you think you are, and you can do more than you think you can"

"RFM (Relentless Forward Motion) will get you there no matter whether it's running or walking

Okay enough about me! Hope everyone else has a great training day!

OMG SUnny! That does NOT look like a safe running environment!!!!

I signed in just to say Happy Birthday to Kevin, but then I saw that 'old' comment :duck: Just wait til you have 39 lurkin around the corner :scared1:

Sunny...that's a great idea, checking out courses by looking at the race photos. The Covered Bridges race was on my list until you found those photos  I'm a little jealous of you New Englanders...I found lots of really neat races up there, especially in NH.

How come my skirts haven't arrived yet? I think I made a mistake in ordering though. I picked the psychedelic hippie pattern and just realized today that it's called "Freelove". Do I really want to run around in a "Freelove" skirt?

It's only 2.5 hours from me and I am looking for a fall 1/2 to run, so I will definitely let you know.

Since I am delurking for a touch, I want to say that I ordered a running skirt and I just LOVE it. It is the crazy free love one and it looks kickin' with my WISH shirt. I will try to post a pic when I can. There will be NO missing me out on the course:rotfl2: .

Thinking of you all while life is getting in the way:grouphug: .

Happy training to everyone:cool1: . Congrats to those who have been successfully racing this past month:banana: .

Warning :offtopic:

My favorite was: "You want to charge me how much for some little girl to come spend a couple hours at my site???"

Just back from the gym... 30 minutes on the cross trainer/elliptical. I am meeting a friend and her kids tonight for pizza, so I made sure I got in a workout today!!!

Sunny - The 10K I ran last fall was through open traffic. I couldn't believe they didn't shut down the road for the 10 minutes it would have taken the runners to get through. The card didn't even stop. I freaked a bit and stayed way over on the shoulder!

Mel - When you get that Free Love skirt, you have to model it for us.

HAPPY B-DAY SPEEDY KEVIN!!!!! Oh those were the days, to be 20-something again! Tho no one ever believes I am as old as I am...

Now I am off to doing some sort of work. I have a demo to do this afternoon, it's an online conference call but the person arranging it seemed to not be too organized. I am wondering what will happen.
