Wk of Feb 11--WISH Walking/Running Club

Leana - I am taking Civil Engineering - focusing on Structural - thanks for asking. And I saw your dinner reservations for Minnie - we have done many of the character meals at the World and Chef Mickey is by far one of the BEST!! I am getting so excited about MInnie:banana:
It might also be because it's the day after I graduate.!!!!!! :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

Angie - Civil Engineering, that's awesome!! I'm a civil geer too, except I focused on environmental, but then somehow wound up working in the oil industry, so maybe that makes me a petroleum engineer now? I'm sure it will feel great once you are done in May - what a great way to celebrate - by hanging out at the Minnie Marathon!! Good luck with those tests!

Wow, we certainly seem to have quite an illustrious contingent here of people in the environmental/engineering field -- I think we now know of Carrie, Heather and Leana! And then a bunch in other engineering fields, too!

Okay, guys, looks like the gym would be a very bad idea tonight with the raging ice storm. I bought a balance ball last night and I am challenging myself to do the 50 minute video (or some significant portion thereof) sometime between when I get home tonight and when I post again. So, if I want to come out and play with you guys tomorrow, it looks like I'll have to squeeze in that session sooner rather than later. ;)

Boy do I feel old. Thinking about it, I'm 1 year shy of my 30th HS reunion!!! I think I'll NOT think about it!!

Kevin - you are so not getting any sympathy around here about being, gasp, 28!!!!:rotfl2:

Funny high school reunion story though:
Chad won a prize for being most recently married at both his 5th & 10th year reunions! :rotfl:
(we were both married before, fyi)

Oops! I forgot to post what I did today!
I did 4 miles on the track in 51:xx. I was having a stonker. Not enough sleep, or proper fuel today. So, the last two miles were entirely walking. I still did ok though. And, most importantly, I got those steps in!

I recently got my 10 year HS reunion packet in the mail and I was depressed for the entire day.... :guilty:

Next year will be the big 4-0 for me. Another reason I started running again.
Stop it! You young men are depressing me!

Ahh. Much better! Someone else who is well passed their 20th reunion!

Friday will mark the 20th anniversary of the day I met my husband though. :)

Where is everyone staying for marathon weekend??? DH and I are staying at POP.

Kim

We are staying at Contemporary. We really do like the POP. It's close to DS16 favorite sports bar, The Offiicial All Star Cafe!

I didn't realize that you can book hotels already for next year's marathon. Does anyone offer special rates, like Anthony Travel does for the Minnie Marathon? Or do you just pay the posted Value rate for that time of the season?

We did not wait for any of the packages to come out to book ours. The Poly was already pretty much booked. The hotels fill fast.

I'm a big fan of just booking something to have it in reserve and change it later if some package comes along.

Cecilia- I may be slightly younger, but you're faster than I am. Wanna trade?

Just a quick drive-by to update on my training--I did 3 miles today in 28:56 with an average pace of 9:34. I felt a bit sluggish today, and didn't really feel like running, but I made myself go.

It has finally started snowing here in NJ, looks like we are going to get a bit of snow tonight and tomorrow. Hopefully, a snow day from school tomorrow!!!!! If so, I will get caught up with all of today's posts!

To all those affected by this big storm---Stay warm!!!! and THINK SPRING!!!

Got to the gym tonight, dsis pushed me to lace up and get out. Did 3 miles in 26:ish. Felt good--not great, but I did push it a bit. Night all!

Hi Everyone!

I'm really sorry to do another drive by, but it's almost my bedtime! If we don't get so much snow school is cancelled tomorrow, I have to go to work. That ds excuse only works when they actually cancel school! :rotfl:

I did my exercise bike today, and then slowly walked for half an hour. I seem to be going slower on the bike, I'm not sure why. I think I haven't been getting enough rest lately. :happytv: Yep, waaaaay too much of that.

Hockeychic -- we have reservations at the Beach Club right now. We are staying at POFQ for the first time in August. DH wants to move if he likes it. I don't know that there will be rooms available by then, but time will tell.

Kevin -- Now you are depressing me! My 20th passed, and I had no desire to return to the Midwest from which I sprang.

Dave -- I'm with you, one of the reasons I want to do the Half next year is to accomplish it before I hit another milestone!

Cecilia -- I bet you're one of those Christy Brinkley kinds of women, looking and feeling fantastic at any age, making others say they only hope to be like you one day!

Kristi -- Perseverance, thy name is Kristi! Good job!

RedDragon -- Are you selecting to have a senior moment?! I think if you choose it doesn't count. I agree, we are only as old as we feel!

Cam -- How do you like the balance ball? I've never tried one, but it looks like fun.

Vic -- Ride Space Mountain for me!

Jen -- I hope your little one is better. Congrats on the audit!

O.k., I've really got to stop the giant yawns and get to bed. Everyone have a restful evening!

Maria

Cecilia - I'm with you - glad there are at least a few of us past the 20th reunion (or 25th...).

Lisa - You are too funny! Your crosstraining post had me laughing out loud!

Dena - Yeah for the halfway point - great walk!

Judy - I want to join the Funky J's. My name begins with J, and I'm definitely cranky now.

Good luck to all of you dealing with outrageous amounts of snow. Our company has offices all across the country, and all day we kept getting emails about locations closing down due to the weather. I think the east coast offices were the only ones still open at 5:00.

I had planned to get up at 5:00 for my regular run on the TM, but I woke up at 3:00 with a killer headache. Didn't go back to sleep till after 4:00, so I turned the alarm off. Took DD to school, then came home and went back to bed and didn't go in to work until 11:00. Am just now beginning to feel relatively normal. Hope that tomorrow morning I can get back into the routine.

Anyone stayed at Coronado Springs before? Thinking about that one for the marathon...

I have to pass this along - I love these running skirts - especially the gym girl because it helps prevent chaffing! Tomorrow only (for Valentine's day), their pink skirts are 50% off. They are a bit pricey, so the 50% off is great.
http://www.skirtsports.com/

I'm so buying the pink camo skirt tomorrow...

Hello everyone, so tired of studying!! :scared:

Thank you soooo much for all of the encouragement  , boy do I need it right now.

Leana - We have stayed at Coronado Springs several times, absolutely loved it!! That's cool that you are an "oil engineer"!! I say I am doing structural but I don't know where I will end up.

Sunny - again thanks for the encouragement. I have a funny story too, one day my 6 year old pointed to a cement mixer and told DH that when mommy is done school she is going to drive one of those (I guess he thought that since I am going to 'build things' that's how you do it) :rotfl2:

Heather - thank you also for the encouragement  I joined these boards at just the right time, cause it is really hard right now.

Cam - That light at the end of the tunnel is what keeps me hanging on:banana: God gave me this dream a long time a go and now it will be fulfilled. How did the video workout go?

Minnie - I know the sacrifices will be worth it but my 7 year old chasing me down the road crying:sad1: kills me. So are you in school too and what new job did you start? Congrats :thumbsup2

Dena - Happy mid Pregnancy !!:flower3:

TXAng - My degree is in Civil Engineering. And you sooo have to scrap your marathon trip!!

Jim - We stayed at the Contemporary this year for the 1/2 and loved it!! The rooms are really nice since they remodeled.:goodvibes

Ok back down to business, on the training front did a horrible 4 this morning, getting worried about Gasparilla on Sunday. Running tomorrow evening, we will see how that goes. :confused3

Angie

I'll try to catch up on some of the posts but I am sure that I will miss a few.

Dave - We stayed at the Grand Californian and loved it. It made things so much easier when we were right in the middle of everything. We actually decided to stay in a different hotel in San Diego since there were a few things to do there. It was the Residence Inn on Hotel Circle. It was also a great hotel and we would recommend it to anyone as well.

Dena - DS does the same with us. Except that instead of saying we are too slow, he will tell us to go faster. Then he gets upset when it is time for the walk breaks and informs us that we need to go even faster.

Judy - Hope the day gets better for you. I don't envy you about moving all the stuff around. However I could be a great supervisor. :thumbsup2

TxAng - Congrats on signing up for the race. I hope it is a good experience for you.

Sunny - Good luck with the snow. Hopefully it gives you something that could be considered worthwhile.

Jen - Congrats on the successful audit.

Great job to all who had good training runs.

My calf is still sore so it looks like a couple of more days of rest. At least if you call trying to redecorate the house rest. :lmao:

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, another snow day for the kids here in Rochester, NY. It's still snowing out there too. Gives me a chance to catch up with my teammates. Got my 30 min SWOG in over lunch, and in the evening I took my first taekwondo class with DD9 princess:. We had a good time.

Thanks for the hotel recommendations for DL. So far people have said good things about HoJos, the Candy Cane Inn, and the Carousel Inn. That gives me a great start. I'm trying to decide if the onsite hotels are worth it. That Neverland Pool at the Disneyland Hotel looks like it would be so much fun for the kids. Anyway, I'm reading the Disneyland threads here on the boards, and I'm waiting to see if any discount comes out for my time period. I'm sure I'll keep you all posted.

Kristi- That is so cool you were a CM at DL. I'd love to hear more about what you did there. Great job getting your steps in when you are out of fuel, energy, and having a stonker. Way to stick with it.

Kevin- I owe you an apology. I was rude yesterday regarding your impending 3-0 birthday and the 10th high school reunion. Those are certainly big milestones, and the do affect you and cause you to pause. Just because I have already passed those milestones, I shouldn't belittle them. Please accept my apologies.

Jen- Yay, I'm so glad that your audit went well. That is great to have one less stress in your life.

Dena- I'm so glad your are keeping up with the walking. I did chuckle a little when your DD asked why you were pushing the stroller so slowly. Maybe she should walk beside you with a doll in the stroller.

Vic- Wow, that's so cool that you can just drive over to MK. Have fun with your spur of the moment of trip. Oh, if you're riding Space Mountain for Maria, can you look for my photopass?

Cam- Did you get your x-training in? How's the ice out your way?

Jim- I agree with you about booking as soon as you think you might be going, and you can always change later.

Laurie- Nice pace on your run. WTG! Did you get a snow day too?

Stephanie- Wow, you are fast too - sub 9 min mile pace. WTG!!!

Judy- How are you doing? Is the soreness out from lifting all those hay bails? Is the crabbyness/irritability gone? Hang in there.

Maria- Good for you getting the x-training time in on the bike.

Sunny- How are you feeling after being on the neurontin a couple of days?

Jackie- I hope you're feeling better and your headache has gone away. Get some rest.

Leana- Thanks for the link for the running skirts. I was going to make a joke about buying one for myself, but I decided to leave it alone after I saw the website had "spankies". I just had to stop at that point. I have to say the pink camo skirt is pretty cool. Watch out Vic- there might be some more sports bra talk coming up.

Angie- Hang in there, you can do this. So you had a stonker 4 miler, you're well trained and will be ready for Sunday. Remember take it easy and get some rest this week so you're ready for Sunday. You go girl!

Bill- Thanks for checking in with your hotel recommendations for California. The Grand Californian looks spectacular too, and DW and I loved the WL - and I bet we would love the GC too. Having a separate entrance to DCA seems like a nice perk too. I was really considering the Residence Inn in Mission Valley, and I noticed they had kid suites too with bunk beds that our princesses would love (or fight over).

Where's Christa, Melissa, Krista, and Steve?

Well, sorry if I missed anyone, I'm sure I'll be on here some more.

We had a room that was a kid suite. DS loved it and would go in there to play. Keeping him from injuring himself on the bunk bed was our biggest problem. We also enjoyed sending him to a room for bedtime and we could stay up and finish things if we needed to.

Happy Valentines Day Wishers!!!!

I went to the gym last night & got my 2 miles in, so I've been on track with training all week!:cool1: I know it's only Wed. but that's way better than I've been doing.

And guess what the family got me for Valentines.....a brand new lime green Ipod shuffle! It is so cute! You can clip it on your shirt so I dont have to worry about if I have pockets in my running shorts. And of course it had to be the lime green one!

Leana-We sayed at Coronado last June when DH had a conference there. We loved it! The Pepper Market while more expensive than most food courts, had fabulous food! Maya Grill has a great breakfast buffet & the kids loved the pool area. Rooms are a little bigger there than the other mods too!

Kristi-kuddos for dealing with the track traffic!

Dave-I think out of all the onsite hotels GC looked the best to me. Central location too!

Lynnda-:cheer2: for the halfway point! I remember that milestone.

Maria- you absolutely need to get enough rest. It will help in alot of ways!!!

hockeygirl-good job getting those steps in!

have a great day everyone!

Happy Valentine's DayWISH Team!

Tiff--enjoy your shuffle!! I LOVE mine--darn they didn't have lime when I got mine!

Dave--I"m only "fast" for those shorter distances! No way I could keep that up for 26.2 miles!

Is there a black hole around here that's swallowing up our teammates???? Krista, Steve, Christa, and MelR--Where are ya'll?????

All this talk of where to stay has got me thinking. I want to stay at the BWV, but since our home is SSR, I have to wait until the 7 month window. I'm going to try my best to get BWV, 2nd choice is OKW (b/c of location), and then if nothing else is left we'll go back to SSR (we love it, don't get me wrong, it's just WAY out there)

Well, going to get 4 miles in while DD is at gymnastics this am. Going to do some "hill" work on the TM.
