Wk of Dec 24--WISH Walking/Running Club

!!

I have not done any exercise since the saturday b/4 Christmas. I think i'm taking taper a little too seriously!!

Oh, you're following the same plan as me. Insteaad of taper, it calls for TOTAL DROP OFF!:rotfl2: We'll have really, really rested legs!

Lynn-- Kudos on the Psi Sigma Alpha, I knew we made the right choice when we picked our WISH doctor;)

Dave-- I think you should carry Yoda on your back for the race! Great ornament.

Heather-- I'm glad DHs xray didn't show pneumonia. At this late stage, that would be hard to overcome before race day. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: To both of you.

I did on measily mile on the track today. It burns me up that we have had absolutely perfect training weather and I haven't done squat. I hope to do 2 mile tomorrow and 4 on Saturday to reassure myself I can run.

Lily-- If I show up for the full I'm holding you personally responsible to get me over that line!;)

Sunny

Hello everyone!

Just for the record - Cam is just as sweet as fresh morning dew lately. No signs of B----y behavior around here. Then again, maybe I just bring out the best in her.

I went out for a run today with the best of intentions. I stretched a bit before I took off down the road at a medium pace. By mile 1 I was in agony from the upper foot/ankle pain. I stopped to stretch some more and it helped, however I was suffering from tiredness, soreness (aka tightness) from the LR on Tuesday and from the present pain. I ended up walking it out and trying to stretch as I walked. I ended up walking mainly at a good (but not fast) pace and combined (running and mainly walking) covered a total of 7miles.

Mile 1: 11:07
Mile 2: 17:32
Mile 3: 18:35
Mile 4: 17:54
Mile 5: 17:32
Mile 6: 16:58
Mile 7: 11:14

I really didn't push it, I know what was in the tank and it was best to walk and get the miles in than run and possibly hurt myself in the process.

I hope everyone that is ailing gets better soon. Those who are travelling do so safely and uneventfully. We will be there on Friday morning and seeing John Bingham at the Expo in the afternoon.

:grouphug:

I've been sitting here reading about everyone getting ready to leave and thinking it would be a really long time before I get to leave....then realized, the races are next weekend :scared1: I'm off work until Tues...guess I'd better start packing and make the WISH team sign!

I havent figured out what to wear yet. I'll probably bring clothes for warm and cold weather. The current forecast looks perfect for me, but could easily change between now and race weekend.

My biggest issue is what shoes to wear. I sent back the FILA's I've done all my LR in because I think they were making my foot/hip worse. The pod wants me to run the race in the orthotics to prevent further injury, but the longest run I'll do in the orthotics is this weekend (5 miles). I don't know what to do :confused3

Pat - OMG! That's something that would happen to me! It almost did today as I was nmoving work stuff back into my car and started to dfall down the stairs. I iced immediately adn think I'm ok, though. :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: I still have one more round of clening. Downstairs only guest tomorrow adn the overnighters TBD. BTW, The ME CM I talked to recommended carrying my own bags. WIth a 10 pm Friday arrival and geting up at 5 am to cheer fro teh half, we'll feel better with bags in hand.

Heather - Your work self must be 100% different than teh you I see! Thinking about you guys! Hope you're better soon!

Lynne - COngrats on both accounts.

Judy - I hope your mood changes soon! :grouphug:

Cam & Howard - You guys are too cute. ;)

TOmorrow I will attempt my first runs w/in 48 hours in I don't know how long. Moved LR (whoopie 6 miles :p ) to Sunday. I'm not feeling much taper madness, but I've been in taper mode to some extent since teh 18-miler. :sad2:

Mel

This is your good friend, DOCTOR CRAIG STEPHENSON talking to you (yes, wrong kind of Dr., but who cares  ). Wear the othotics on race day. Use them for your training and walking as possible between now and then, but wear them on race day. Both of the ladies I live with went from no orthotics to using them flat out with very little adjustment time, and both were shocked at the huge reduction in pain and improvement in motion with vs. without.

Lynne

Congratulations on your new rotation. The location isn't bad (bad? heck you can SURF before work!), but the duty brings so much joy. On January 24, 1985 we brought into the world an 8 week premature daughter, who now is a 2nd semester senior in college, about to take that exciting and scary next step in life. We owe everything, the greatest gift we ever received, to the physicians, nurses, and staff at the Seton Hospital (Austin, TX) neo-natal ICU. Everytime the docs or nurses saw any of us, in the ICU, in the elevators, wherever, they took time to talk to us about the ups and downs, and held us together mentally while we got that little girl bigger and stronger so she could come home. We can never repay or sufficiently thank them for what they did for us. I'm sure many worried to scared to terrified parents will feel the same way about you when you help them and their little ones.

Craig

We'll be there!!!! We have our dinner reservations for 5:40p post marathon. It's the first time I've ever been there.

Dave, we'll be there, too! We have ressies for 5:30 or some time close to that. You'll be able to spot us easily. We'll be the ones shuffling slowly to our table. Oh wait, that will be ALL of us! :)

Steve

I'll have to wave to all of you going to O'hana's post marathon. I'll be at Kona at 6PM.
I also saw the forecast for 70's weather. A little warmer than I'd like, but I don't think I want the 30 degree freeze we had at the start last year. I'll probably wear my bike (sausage?) shorts if it's warm. Reg. shorts ride up and really make be b----y!;) I have pants (loose fitting tights) that I am very comfortable running in also.

I did my 1st workout in three weeks last night. Did an hour on the elliptical machine. Hoping to do 4 miles in the morning. My cold is just about gone. Although, I think I may start taking Airborne so I don't have any relapses.
Sending :wizard: to those fighting the colds now!

I'm going to try to pack this weekend, to avoid the last minute forgetfulness. But it's gonna be a busy weekend. I'll be at the Eagles game NYE (glad it's a 4:15 game). I'm supposed to work the Mummers parade on New Years Day, but now they're saying it's going to rain most of the day. So the parade will be postponed until next Saturday. Guess who WON'T be working the parade?

Steve and Krista - sorry it wasn't a good year for the Steelers. Can you believe the turnaround for my Eagles? Five weeks ago, I wasn't even worried about a playoff game because they were playing like crap. Now, there's the possibility of hosting a wild card game and I can't go. I'll be in Florida! Ugh!

Lynne - - Congrats! A month in hawaii? Yeah- it sucks to be you:)
I'll be staying at OKW, too. Arrive on Wed. 1/3-1/9.

Craig - I did print out your blister directions before and plan to use them. I just wasn't sure if I should sand down the current area where blister was.

Cam- - Thanks for the packing list. I always feel like I forgot something.

Carrie - Cool that you got your own chip. I was toying with getting the Goofy chip. But then i remembered how I got to the corral at the DL 1/2, looked down and realized I forgot my chip :scared1: I got to the corral really early to be near the front and strectch. Had to go all the way back to my room (off-site) to get it. Got back to the corral (which was now packed) with about 15 minutes to spare. I had about a 3 mile warm-up going back and forth. I was so mad at myself.

Terri

Good Morning TEAM:

Lynne- Congratulations on acceptance to Psi Sigma Alpha! That's fantastic! Your neonatology rotation in Hawaii sounds fantastic too. So, will you be hosting your teammates while you're there? Give my best to your mom.

Kristi- Oooh, come to O'hana on Sunday. What's your Mom expect, that you'd sit around after she leaves?

Jen- No doubt about it, shoveling snow is definitely cross-training. That really get's your heart going for sure.

Sunny- Yoda's on my back whenever I run. He symbolizes my WISH teammates. You guys are always watching over me, pushing me along, encouraging me, and pushing me to do my best. Thanks Yoda!!! Hope you're feeling better.

Howard- I'm amazed by your anti-taper reports. Good job getting your miles and steps in. I hope you get a little time to rest and recover.

Mel/Chimera- Oooh, that's tough not knowing what shoes to wear at this stage. I'll defer to the more experienced marathoners on our team to that one. But I hope all goes well with your decision.

Carrie- Good to hear from you. So what are you doing for the Rose Bowl on Monday. Is there some big blowout going on there?

Craig- As always your posts are an inspiration. It gave me goosebumps to read about your premature daughter. What a gift.

Steve- Oooh cool, I'm glad you and Krista will be at O'hana too. Glad to have some fellow Steeler fans there. We'll be the party of 5 dressed in luau wear. So I really hope the Steelers beat the Bengals on Sunday. I would love for the Steelers to knock Cincy out of any chance of getting in the playoffs.

Terri- Wow, you do have a busy weekend planned. I have been impressed with the Eagles turnaround. Jeff Garcia has really come through for you guys hasn't he? I must admit that I can root for the Eagles. It'd be nice to see the neighbor PA team do well. Hope you get totally over your cold. I still have some congestion left, and I hope my airways are clear by next week.

Have a great day everyone!

Sorry - guys I haven't been on since last Friday! Busy, busy weekend....then I thought it would be slow at work this week -- boy was I wrong.

Haven't gotten in much training since Friday but will get back to some cross-training tonight....work and the holidays had gotten in the way.

I hope everyone had a great holiday! I had a blast between my birthday and Christmas!

Haven't really gotten to read much of the posts this week but have to do some major catching up!

Hi Jodi- It's great to hear from you. I've been wondering how you've been doing. I hope your legs are feeling well with the rest you've been getting. When are you heading down to WDW?

Dave – wonderful surprise for the princesses.

Jodi - How are you doing? Are you still training on the elliptical?
I am – and actually my knee is feeling a lot better….but haven’t run yet – want to have everything good for Disney. Oh by the way, I noticed that (at least I think it was you) were doing the Goofy Challenge – is it okay, if my friend backs out that I hang in the crowd with you?

I hope things are better with your adductor muscles.

I had a wonderful Christmas with the family. My lungs are definitely healing. I hope to try a short wog tomorrow. It's been two weeks and a day since I ran or did any exercise. And to top it off, I've been drowning my sorrows in cookies I might have to roll myself down the course!
Sunny’s still going --- woo hoo, I’m so glad, I started this whole adventure because of you.

Advice time – Do you guys think it would be okay to do a 5k on New Year’s Eve? There is one very close to where I live and it sounds like great fun – they give you champagne afterwards – Or should I not do it? Is it too close to Disney? BTW – don’t know when everyone else is leaving but I will be there starting January 4th. So if you see me, stop me and say “hello.” I’m not at home right now, but I will try and post a picture tonight. = )

Is anyone else flying into MCO Thursday morning? We land at 11:00am. Just wondering if I should be on the lookout for any lime.
Judy, I will be at MCO at around 10 am – Delta area. Then, I’m off to check in at POFQ, pick up the packet (oh darn – just read that you aren’t picking up the packet until Friday), and then head to MK. If you’d like to connect at some point…..let me know? I will have my cell with me.

Good point Cam about overdoing it in the parks – I plan to just take it very slow…..do a lot of sitting, you know find a couple of good benches like our buddy Dave from the planning video.

Oh – gotta go – time to start work, I will do my best to post more a little bit later. Have a great day everyone!

Terri

I wouldn't sand it down, since that might irritate the skin. I'd do my best to get lubrication on the skin. If you're really worried, understandable, I'd get some Second Skin at the pharmacy. The medical staff applied it to my blister in the tent at the finish area for the half last year, and I went from pain and limping to walking easily on Saturday. I put it down first on hte skin Sunday morning, then layered up, and ran the entire full marathon with no pain or discomfort at all.

Good luck with the blister. I'm sure you can solve it.

Thank you Dave. I get so busy sometimes. Looking at my daughter and thinking about those 29 days always bring back to me what really matters in life.

BEST OF ALL

Hooray!!!!! The first 10 day weather channel forecast for Sunday is dry and 50 degrees at the start. Please, Please, Please hold to that.

Craig

We'll be there!!!! We have our dinner reservations for 5:40p post marathon. It's the first time I've ever been there.
Yeah Dave!! Glad to hear we'll be having a WISH mini-meet at 'Ohana that evening. We've never been there either, having canceled ADR's there many times in the past. We're looking forward to it even more now that I know they'll be several familiar faces there to celebrate with.

Lynne - Congrats to you:banana: !! Travel safe.

Craig - Thanks for sharing the story of your daughter's arrival.

I'm intently studying the weather forecast now to the point of it becoming an obsession:confused3 . I would also prefer it a touch too warm as opposed to being too cold. Crossing my fingers for favorable conditions and chuckling at the repeated mention of the "sausage" shorts:rotfl2: :rotfl: .

Better get my nose to the grindstone:surfweb: . I have to look forward to auditors staring me in the face when I return to the office post-marathon. Thinking of you all and WISHing everyone a Happy New Year. Safe travels to MCO and if I don't get a chance to post again, we will see you on 1/5 @ 4:00 at POP.

Hey everyone!!! I can't believe the races are so close - I'm so excited for everyone!!!! :cheer2:

Thanks for all the well-wishes again. The doc thinks the ear infection is from the upper respiratory infection that I thought I had finally gotten over... grrr! Here's the short (or shorter) version, though - I have an external ear infection as well as an internal infection, accompanied by lots of swelling in the lymph nodes and all along the jaw line. On Thursday, I went back to the doc to find that my ear drum had perforated, and he ended up putting in a wick to help the meds get all the way into my ear - fun! I have another appt in about an hour. My doc has been trying to get me into an ENT, but apparently all the ENT's take vacation at the same time. There is only one on-call, and he was/is booked for surgeries yesterday and today. They are trying to get me in on Tuesday. I said fine, as long as I can go to DISNEY on Thursday!!!!!! In the mean time, they told me that if these antibiotics don't start working soon, they will have to go to IV meds which means I get to stay in the hopsital - ummmm, still have to go to Disney on Thursday!!!! At least I'm keeping my priorities straight through this!!! :thumbsup2

Steve, Krista, Dave, and Sara - We'll be at O'Hanas after the full, too! I think our ADR's are for 5:00. Yea!!!! You will probably hear us before you see us - Billy is already excited about going to the "coconut race place"! :goodvibes

Judy - No thanks on the bills for the horses!!! ;) We are really not encouraging Billy on this one. I love horses, too, but I want a pool before he gets a horse!!! :lmao:

Sunny - So glad you are feeling better!!!

Lynne - YEA for both!!!! :thumbsup2 So when do you get to be in Hawaii??? That will be awesome!!!! Congratulations!!!!

I know I've missed a bunch, but I guess I should get dressed and head to the doctor. I'll check back this afternoon. I can't wait to see everyone!!! WISH meet is one week from today!!! Woo-Hoo!!! :woohoo:

:goodvibes Lynnda

I am busy inputing live tracking info for the full marathon. My plan is to be somewhere on the Boardwalk to cheer everyone on. I thought maybe near the beach club since it is close to the end, and where you guys might need a little boost. I do have an annual pass, so I am toying with going into Epcot somewhere also...we'll see.

In the past I chased Chad around during the race. But this year I am staying put & cheering for all my WISH buddies! (he knows & understands that he is not the center of attention this year!)

If you'd like me to get text messages for you, please PM me your last name & I will set it up to track you! This is going to be fun!

Here's me on Sunday the 7th --> :cheer2:

Darn - double post!

Anyway...I am beginning to think maybe we can squeeze Ohana in before driving Mom to the airport. Her flight doesn't leave until 8:45pm. That should give us enough time to eat, then bring her to the airport straight from there...hmmm. I guess I should see if I can even get ressies at this point, huh?

Hi all!
Ohana's sounds awesome. I wish I could go. I have too much going on and too many people to see so I will have to settle for meeting some of you at the W tent after the races. It's hell to be so popular:lmao:

I was all set to wear my tights and a long sleeve shirt but if we are talking 70's then even I have to give in to shorts. yikes! Now I have to rethink my entire outfit. I guess I can be thankful that I have to wear my purple singlet regardless of what is under it. Too bad it shrunk and now barely stretches across my chest - its not uncomfortable unless I look in the mirror.

As for shorts, I wear actual running shorts with the split sides and built in "liner". These don't have any material to ride up so they don't get all bunchy like other types. My thighs are very attached to one another and the fabric of my shorts in that area is very important. Too tight a fabric gets thread bare quickly, too loose a fabric gets pushed out of the way. The price I pay for years of choclate eclairs for breakfast.

Cecilia

It's hell to be so popular:lmao:

You & me both, Cecilia! :rotfl2:

Everytime we go to WDW, we have way too many people we have to visit with. I know that sounds snotty & mean, but it gets to you when you go to WDW at least once a year. It's our vacation & we run around seeing all kinds of people every time instead of relaxing! Oh well, I guess it's better than no one wanting to see us, right? ;)

Good morning everyone!

Ran 3 uneventful miles on the TM last night.

Since I like living life on the edge, I just made ADRs for next weekend. I was able to get just about everything we wanted. I did check on Ohana's for Sunday night. First ressie available was 2100.

1/5 - Kona @0840
1/6 - SciFi @1715
1/7 - Boatwright's @0820
1/7 - WCC @1730

All of you b______y people better be un-b________y come Friday afternoon. You don't want me to go "Military" on ya! ;)

Take care.

Vic -- I am glad you were able to get the ADRs you wanted. We were trying for our celebratory dinner at LeCellier at any time at all the entire week following the marathon and NOTHING was available for dinner. Booked completely solid! So we are doing a 2:40 "lunch" there on Tuesday instead.

We were able to get Cape May Cafe on Monday at 5:30 -- Howard's cousin, who lives about 45 mins from WDW is joining us and we thought that would be a good choice for dinner that day. Personally, I'd prefer Chef Mickey's, but she might not be that "into" the characters. :confused3

Lynnda -- I hope all goes well at the doctors.

Oh, and isn't my DH so sweet? I am sooo spoiled! I am getting worried about him, though, when he has these pains during LRs. I am glad to know there will be WISHers along the course to encourage him in his Goofy quest. It's been a rough haul for him getting there. And his trip to the emergency room right before NYE last year, I am just praying that he stays healthy through all of this. :goodvibes

Oh, and just to show you how sweet he is, I'll share an email he just sent me. He did our registration today for the Polar Bear Plunge for Special Olympics and he had to indicate my sweatshirt size. He asked me, "What sweatshirt size for you? Small?" Isn't he a darling? Of course, I no longer need the 3x, but "small" is nowhere in my future, so that is still making me smile! An "L" will do just fine, honey! :lovestruc
