Wk of Dec 24--WISH Walking/Running Club

I have not done any exercise since the saturday b/4 Christmas. I think i'm taking taper a little too seriously!!

I have ONLY done one workout since the 9miler the Saturday before Christmas. I did 30 minutes of Tae Bo and 30 minutes of the Firm Cardio Sculpt yesterday. At this point my legs are constantly sore, and I think I would rather do something that isn't going to pound on my legs even more. I have 8 this saturday that I will put in, but the rest of the time I will just do Cardio tapes.

I am so sorry that I havne't checked in with everyone. It seems like I have been so busy, I feel like a chicken running around with it's head cut off. My house is an absolute wreck. It has taken me almost all week to get it back in working order, and I am still not done the way I would like it to be. But I have gotten to be a bit of a neat freak about my house, my car on the other hand is a completely different subject!!

I AM TERRIFIED!! DS5 and I were talking this morning at Target about the fact that his race is in 8 days, and he is so excited. He asked me if I was excited about mine and I just cringed. I am scared to death. Is there anything I can do to get me past this fear?

Ok, gotta run, Lucas just woke up. I will try to drop back in later and catch up with everyone.

Take Care,
Dana

p.s. belated Merry Christmas to everyone!!

So with the weather predictions being warm, is anyone going to wear tights or pants??? I am still planning my tights with the sleeveless WISH shirt. I know if I wear shorts for that long of a run, I am bound to get shorts burn and I am not planning to wear body glide. Plus I have done my long runs in these tights and I am comfortable in them. I hope I don't get too warm (I hate to sweat more than I have to).

Judy and Cam - I will join your club!!! Last night my DD3's Barbie horse tripped me and slammed into my ankle. I thought it was sprained but it was just my funny bone throbbing. I was not very nice to DH about it.

Dave - Hope you get better soon! I am sucking down Airborne. My 3YO is sick and coughing all over me. Plus she likes to kiss, so I get germs on me in one way or another.

I am at work, trying to get some things done. It's quiet here, but that makes me more lazy.

Oh, and I am so with you on seeing the castle for the first time. I cry every trip when I see the castle for the first time.

Pat and Cam - ME TOO!! In fact, when I watched the Christmas Parade on TV I cried when I saw Main Street. Non of my family or friends understand, I am just a crazy person to them.

Regardless of the weather, I'll be doing the full in bike shorts with a running skirt over them. The question becomes how many layers will we need up until the start and for the first mile or so. I'd love to wear throwaway sweats to the start and get rid of them in the corral.

I remember last year that I got really warm really fast and regretted wearing a shirt under my WISH shirt. I don't want to make that mistake this year, especially since I'd be stuck being too warm for 7 hours unless the bottom-most layer was something I was willing to throw away.

OK so I went out and got some lunch, figuring some nice food, a little sunshine, George Straight Live from the AstroDome, would help. It didn't. I'm still a wench.

This feels a lot like PMS.

I was planning on my Danskin tights as they are very thin and comfortable. My running tights will be too hot I think. I am bringing shorts but would really prefer the Danskins. I will - however - be prepared for everything from 35 to 95 degrees. ;)

Oooh, Pat, I think you definitely have a reason to not do anymore cleaning until after the marathon. Hope your pulled muscle gets better fast.

If it's warm, I'm definitely wearing shorts. To keep warm before the race, I bought some throw away sweats at Target the day after Christmas. I found a zip up jacket for $6 and some plain ole sweat pants for $6 too. I figure I'll wear that stuff to the corral and throw it away at the beginning of the race. I'll cut the legs of the sweatpants though so I can get them over my shoes.

Jen- Right now it looks like it is going to be in the 60s for race start and should be close to 70 by the end of the 1/2 or in the mid-70s by the end of the full. :sad2: You will definitely be HOT if you wear running tights. You may need to find some sausage shorts (similar to bike shorts without the padding). The regular running type shorts bunch up on me and drive me crazy. I am still going to pack clothes for cold weather, just in case, but for now, I am planning on warm weather. I am going to wear sausage shorts and my short sleeve WISH t-shirt. Thank goodness the shirt is long enough to cover my big bottom and fat thighs. I am also going to wear my hair in a pony tail to keep it off the back of my neck.

DH is feeling much better today, and he sent me back to work. So far I have been successful in avoiding a full blown cold. I am definitely not sneezing as much as yesterday, and my head does not feel as clogged. Tomorrow is my visit to the cardiologist. Still no chest pain, so I expect good news tomorrow.

Judy and Cam- You should feel flattered that anyone is noticing that you are b****y right now. Everyone just thinks I am acting normal. :rotfl:

Hey Everyone: I forgot to tell you all, that my princesses and I went on the "ornament quest" the day after Christmas. Every year, I buy each DD an ornament of their own at the after Christmas sales. We went to the Hallmark store, all the ornaments were marked 50% off. DD5 princess: got a really cute Winnie the Pooh ornament with Pooh and friends sled riding. You pull a string and they slide around a little hill. DD8 princess: got the "Pirates of the Carribean" ornament with Jack Sparrow in the jail cell trying to get the dog to give him a key. You press a button and it plays the POTC theme song. I love it.

And I found the Luke and Yoda ornament for half price. I got the last one!!!

I can't decide whether to put it in my office or beside my bed, but I want to see it everyday to give me motivation to run.

Greetings everyone, sorry about being away from posting for so long. I have just been in full lurker mode for the past several days and trying to keep from going taper crazy too. That, and I've been fighting off an illness for the past few days too. I keep telling myself, better to be sick this week than next!

I am also on the "extended taper" list, having gone too long without a real long run. I wanted to make sure everything heals up before the Goofy. I plan on getting at least 6 in this Saturday with my BRAND NEW GARMIN 305!! (nice Christmas present!!) Figure I should take it out for a spin before the Goofy.

Dave, Judy & others who are all having tough runs now and wondering about completing the event(s): that is perfectly normal. Dont worry about it at all. You know that deep down in side of you that you can do this and that you will! Don't worry about 30 minutes on the dreadmill today. The excitement and energy of race day will carry you along, and you will look at the clock 30 minutes into your race and think "wow...doesnt feel like 30 minutes. This is easy!" Dave...I promise I will help you get to that finish line on the marathon.

Based on the weather reports, I too will be abandoning pants for that morning and going with shorts. I will still pack a pair or 2 of throw-away pants just in case, but I am thinking shorts and shirt for me. Hope it doesnt rain hard on us. A nice mist is fine with me.

Here is our itenerary (sp??) for the trip. We arrive at MCO about 2:30 Orlando time on Wednesday. Check in at All Star Sports, dinner at Boma at AKL.

Thursday will be an Animal Kingdom day, expo Thursday afternoon. Stick around long enough for the Penguin's talk and the Goofy Briefing.

Friday will be MGM day, with lots of rest and hydrating. POP at 4:00 for the meet (that's the right time?)

Saturday - 1/2 marathon, maybe Epcot if I have the energy.

Sunday - full marathon, Illuminations, sleep!

Monday - MK day (gotta get the pics while wearing the medals!:thumbsup2 )

Tuesday - Epcot, Le Cellier dinner.

Wednesday - back home.

It is going to be my brother's first trip to WDW, so it will be a challenge to not tackle the parks commando style. I'll treat the walking around in the parks before the races as a warm-up. Yeah, that's it!

Happy training all. Marathon weekend will be here before we know it!

Paul

I would love to wear shorts, but they ride up on me and rub too much (I am still a bit heavy in the hips and thighs). My tights are Champion and when I run indoors I am OK with them if I wear short sleeves. Also, I hate to try out new shorts this close to the race. I guess I will just need to drink more water.

Jen -- I can't wear regular bike shorts but found some quickwik bike shorts at junonia.com that are long enough on me that they are just about to my knees. You might even want to try a pair of capri leggings this weekend and see if you would want to use those if it is too hot for tights.

Heather -- you are so funny talking about your shirt being long enough, considering how great and fit you look! I have to wear the running skirt to cover all the bumps and lumps that would cause other race participants to be :scared1: Thank God I can get the comfort of the bike shorts with the modesty/coverage of a skirt. Looks kind of doofy, but who cares, right? If this were a beauty contest I'm not sure I'd be wearing a safety yellow/lime green shirt on this very large body. Especially after a little green army man told me at DL that "God never intended that color to be invented." :lmao:

Judy -- sorry, hon, but if George Strait can't put you in a better mood, nothing can! ;) BTW, last night, as we were driving to dinner and I was snapping at my two darling children, I thought "man, if I didn't know better, I'd swear I was PMS'ing"! Isn't that hysterical? :rotfl2: Brilliant minds really do think alike.

Dave -- I am so glad you found your ornament. I was actually worried about that, when I was in our Hallmark store pre-Christmas, and their ornament selection was skeletal, at best!

Paul -- Good luck NOT doing the parks commando style with a newbie in tow. I always want to show newbies everything!

Complete drive-by!!

Working in accounting + year-end = HE** I am so out straight that I haven't even been a lurker:sad1:

:wizard: :wizard: :wizard: to all the WISH family members who are feeling under the weather. I hope everyone everyone recovers soon.

I just switched my flights today to fly into MCO next Thursday night instead of Friday morning:yay: . The last flight out works better for me with DD's:cutie: than the first one at the crack of dawn.

Who else has the 'Ohana reservations for dinner on 1/7 post-marathon? We will be there with 5:30 ADR's.

I am enjoying the taper period and loving my acupuncturist these days.

Happy tapering to you all this weekend:woohoo: . I am so excited to see everyone next week:grouphug: . I am afraid I might not be here too often before then. I will try to catch up over the long holiday weekend. I plan on doing 8 outside on Saturday.

People having doubts- don't worry, this is just another phase of the taper madness. YOU WILL DO IT!!!

So travel plans- we leave this Sat morn about 8 am and are driving straight through. Will do my 8 mi in Orlando on Sunday and then depending on crowds, etc we may try and get into MK Sunday night. We're staying off site at the Sheraton Airport though so we may just crash too. We check into OKW on Monday Jan 1st and will be there until Monday Jan 8th. It's an anti-commando trip w/ the only things definitely scheduled are the WISH get together Friday at Pop, the 1/2 Sat, and the full Sun. Will do packet pick up on Thurs and have to move my sister out and take her soon to be ex roomie to the airport on Weds. I want to go to the new Nemo Living Seas at Epcot and see the new show at AK, everything else is up in the air.

BTW, being DVC has really helped w/ becoming anti-commando as I know we'll be back in May for the FL 70.3 race staying at VWL again(probably only go to Epcot and MK that trip though) and then we'll also do a week in October for MNSSHP and Food and Wine Fest. Unfortunately my clinical schedule is such that we'll be there later in the month and will miss Race for Taste again.

Small brag time- got an email yesterday confirming my membership in Psi Sigma Alpha, an academic honor society at my med school. Provisional membership was based on being top 15% at the end of 1st year and actual membership was still in the top 20% at the end of second year. Our school uses a Honors/Pass/Fail and supposedly doesn't rank the students so having something like this is quite helpful for residency applications. I'm doing pretty well in the third year core clinical rotations too.

I got confirmation on my first official 4th year rotation- Neonatalogy at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, HI. A month in HI playing w/ the tiny ones- it's such a challenge being me sometimes:lmao:

See most of you real soon- IRL
Happy New Year's:banana:

Lynne -- So nice to see you here, sweetie! How awesome for you on your acceptance to Psi Sigma Alpha. You should be so proud of yourself! I bet your mom is bursting with pride! And what a great rotation you are going to have at HI working with the little ones. I am sure you will love it and those babies will thrive in your care! So, what is Erin's plan? Going back to school? Or some other path?

I just noticed in your siggie that you are going to Longboat Key in the Spring. Where are you staying at? We stayed on Lido Key (basically the same place) in December.

I guess we are actually staying in Lido Key as well. We are staying at the Holiday Inn right on the beach--so excited--and then head over to WDW 5 days later. Fun, fun!!

Well, I guess the taper madness has hit me too--and I shouldn't even be thinking of tapering yet! I've got to get a workout in today---but as it's 4:30 already and we're supposed to go out to dinner probably won't happen. Oh well--need to really get 12 in tomorrow--you'd think my new Garmin would be reason enough to get out of the house and lace up--but not so much--maybe the diet of cookies and beer is holding me back!

I sent you a PM. This is the same resort I stayed in.

Compete
Who else has the 'Ohana reservations for dinner on 1/7 post-marathon? We will be there with 5:30 ADR's.
We'll be there!!!! We have our dinner reservations for 5:40p post marathon. It's the first time I've ever been there.

DD8 princess: got the "Pirates of the Carribean" ornament with Jack Sparrow in the jail cell trying to get the dog to give him a key. You press a button and it plays the POTC theme song. I love it.

I buy an ornament for Zack every Christmas to put away for him. I try to have it be something about that year. This year everything is about pirates (he is a 3 year old boy after all), so I got him this ornament! That is also the one ride he is excited to go on as soon as we get there. He said no to Small World since it "is too loud." :confused3

Oh man, all this talk about Ohana - now I wanna go on Sunday too! :upsidedow Think my Mom will be upset if we throw her on ME back to the airport & go to dinner without her? :rotfl:

I am kinda happy that it looks like we will have warm racing weather. I have many options for shorts or capris, but only one nice pair of tights. Since I have 2 races, that is a problem. Bring on the warmer weather! :woohoo:

Dave - We are doing Ohana's on Saturday after the 1/2. It is my favorite restaurant at WDW, maybe because I like meat!!! I think Mel will be there on Saturday also.

Does shoveling snow count for cross training?? I didn't run today, but I did shovel for 45 minutes. Also, my wrist has been hurting and now it hurts worse. Good thing I don't need my wrist to run!!!
