Wk of Dec 2--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi Everyone-

Well, I managed to run my 6 miles today. This was by far my toughest run mentally. It was WAY WAY harder than the 10 miles I ran yesterday. I had been warned that the next two weeks were going to be tough but this was brutal. Making it worse was that it was on a treadmill. Here is how it went:

2.4 miles: I am hating life and running. Everything from the hips down aches a little. I cut the TM to a WALK and drink some powerade. I decide I will just run 3 miles. I crank up the speed to get it over with.

3.2 miles: oops I got distracted by the news and forgot to stop at 3. Might as well run 4 and try to salvage my pace for the day. Spend next .6 miles trying to figure out how long it will take me to get to a 10 mpm pace.

3.8 miles: I have almost regained my 10 mpm pace so I will go to 5. Crank up the speed a little to regain my pace faster.

4.9 miles: My favorite song is about to come on. Who programed my MP3 player? I will keep going so I can listen....Crank up the speed so I can run to the beat.

By the way, the aches went away at about mile 4. Which fits in with exactly what I was told to expect. I ended up running the 6 in 58 minutes for a pace of 9:40. Not to shabby for someone who was ready to quit at mile 2.

Wendy! Just had a chance to look at Rons Pics of the 1/2 you ran Sunday. There is a WONDERFUL one of you and Ron with your WISH shirt on.
EVERYONE GO SEE!
TRICHARLOTTE
Just click to see the pics of the Victory Junction Race and it is on the 2nd or 3rd page of pics...

You folks crack me up! I got to the first page and there was a Wendy that wasn't me! Man, I wish I looked that good, but then I found the real me in my WISH team shirt -- and the shirt looks really good! :rotfl2:

Ron is such a sweetie!

Good morning RACING TEAM! Whooo hoo! That's what we are, aren't we??!?!?

Anyway, now I have a question....

Tights, capris, or shorts???

This question is mostly for the ladies, but hey, if you guys intend to be sporting capris, I say - More power to you! :teeth:

Judy, I agree with our fellow WISHers, come prepared for all possibilities. According to our experienced folks last year was colder than usual. Here is exactly what I wore:

wicking socks, the brand I always use, worn before, but not alot
my lucky lime green underwear and sports bra
a long sleeved heavier weight black wicking shirt
my short sleeved WISH wicking shirt over the long sleeved shirt
long black wicking pants
a light-weight zippered sweatjacket with hood
a very, very heavy weight hoody, cut up the front to the neck (my throwaway)
a black stocking cap
lime green scarf - thanks Lily! :wave2:
two pairs light weight gloves
fanny pack containing my necessary stuff
my garmin
and last but not least, my favorite shoes

Remember that it was cold last year, I was in the Epcot parking lot at 3:20AM, and I walked (vs running). I took off the extra pair of gloves when we finally got started, and discarded the heavy hoody midway in the MK. I took off the light weight sweat jacket in Epcot so that my WISH shirt showed up nicely in my finish picture!!

As far as after the half....I went back to my room, did the cold tub soak, slept for an hour (mostly because I was up at 2AM) and then headed to the parks. I was out until after 11PM and felt fine.

We are going to have so much fun!! :Pinkbounc

Hey - Just realized that i'm bringing something very important for pre-race corral warmth.... someone to snuggle with!! do you think we should start a corral snuggle group thread in addition to the pace group thread?

Oh Pat, THANKS! Thats very helpful! Say...you had lime green undies? I'm jealous! :teeth:

I refuse to share my dh with anyone who runs faster than me! There shall eb no snuggling with him, or he'll likely just leave me in the dust. :p

Judy - Have we gone over bringing throw away sweats and possibly buying disposable wind suites at the Expo?

Cecelia - I still cringe when you speak of doing a 6-miler after a 10-miler during the week. Please take it easy and don't hurt yourself. :goodvibes

Lily - Geee, whacked, what could I be thinking? Maybe we shoud asked Zebra Butt or Nipple man? :rotfl2:

oh yes, they are my "lucky" undies.....meaning I've worn them for some long runs and I know they are comfy, so I save them for the big day. Don't want any wedgies on the course!!

WISH I had a snuglie to bring to the waiting corral. (My big Teddy will be at the finish line waiting ror me.) I wonder if DS would share some snuggles with his Mom whilst we wait?

OMG! another Bwaahhhaha moment!
:lmao:
Doesn't everyone have lime green undies? or tights, or zebra stripes....?
:)
Ladies, send DH to Victoria's Secret. He got mine from there. I'm thinking of getting DH the shorts from the link here. Could be funny!
:teeth:

Cecilia, wow! that was a heck of a mind game you played there.

Carrie - Throw away sweats, yes. I bought a pair of warm up pants on clearance for five dollars. I just have to get something for the top. I was thinking of a flannel shirt actually. So I could just unbutton it instead of taking it over my head. Disposable wind suit? Umm, no.

Nor, Pat, have I been warned about wedgies! I haven't gotten one yet in training so I may be OK with that.

:rotfl:

Pat--One word: COMMANDO!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Judy--Last year I wore tights for the half and was comfortable the entire time. For the full, I will most likely wear shorts since I will be out there much longer.

Vic--Maybe you can color your nose hairs lime green. That would be very festive!!!

Judy - The will have Tyvek tols and bottoms for ~$7 each at the expo. We did not go to teh expo 'til Saturday last year, so they were out of pants, but the jackets were great. I'd go heavier than flannel. K-mart had great after X-mas sales last year for zipped sweatshirts. BTW, I worry more about chafing than wedgies. Boy shorts are not rated fro distances greater than 10 miles IMO.

I so agree! That's why the "sausage pants" aka tights and if you must shorts over. I now have to find a fix for the chafing of my arms against my bra. The body glide might have to be reapplied along with the water stops. DH said to wear some sort of arm band. Uh, I don't think so.

Uh Oh, Carrie. I was planning on just running in my Danskin tights and WISH shirt. Isn't that enough? Remember I will be coming from New York where I will be acclimated to freezing temps during the day. I was planning on the flannel shirt and sweats as the throw away. You mean I need something heavier than flannel to run in???

No, you should be fine for teh race, but just a flannel shirt on top may not be fine for standing in the corrals for over an hour. DH and I had been running in 20 degrees and awful wind and snow, but just standing around in 34 degrees got kind of chilly. Sweats were gone almost instantly. WIndbreaker got taken off at about mile 4. Down to shorts and t around mile 10. It was unseasonably cold, but you just never know.

Yes, thats good thinking. I think I'll get something windproof. And a hat. I bought a nice black watch cap (Ohhh! $1.99 at Target!) And wore it last Saturday. Then washed it because...well, because I blew my nose in it. And when it came out of the wash it was small enough for a Cabbage Patch Doll!

Oh you guys are good. You definately keep me laughing.
I am raking in all these layering tips for my 20 mile run on Saturday.
I don't have to have throw aways though, because I can hand them to a coach at one of our water stops. I don't have anything to wear over my tights though - what does everyone think of wearing my silk undies UNDER my tights? I will probably get too hot, huh?
We are supposed to have record breaking low temps here tonight and tomorrow. Probably average temperature for some of you, but I live in the SOUTH. Lucky for me, no more running until Saturday. :) :happytv: :) :surfweb:

Saturday it is predicted to be in about 20 when we start and in the high 30s three to four hours later. Brrr.

Seriously, you guys wear underwear under your short and tights?? Isn't that uncomfortable? :confused3

I ain't wearin lime green drawers! :)

I agree, Vic. Lime green undies make my hips look big. :thumbsup2

Now pink (or zebra print)--sign me right up! And forget the "outer layer" of shorts. I'll wear those bad boys with a running singlet and call it a day. Maybe some gloves, too. Don't want the hands to get chilly. :)
