Wk of Aug 13--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Cam - :wizard: for Friday! Glad you had such a good weekend!

Mel - Travel for training runs does wonders! I recommend catching a last minute weekend trip on Tue or Wed! ;)

Lynne- :wizard: That sounds liek it can be very rough, to say the least. Congrats for being able to keep your training up!!!!! Lol psych during taper.

Judy - Sounds like you get some mega XT on Saturdays. That would make Sundays really hard. Then again, will you still be able to do Sat chores after a LR?

Dave - WTG for getting workouts in while out of town!

Lily - Wed at 8:30, room 2, sounds great! Just got to remember now. Gonna' be a busy week.

Solo - You still out there? Upcoming fall seasons kicking your but??

monte - Of course you're still a WISH Team member. That's why we don't call them marathon training threads anymore. Just training threads!

OK all you NFL people. LIons won, but they sure did try to lose. I won't be getting my hopes up though. Pre-seson is nothing liek the real thing! Nice that we had a former player (also a grad of solo's place of employment) was kicking our butts. :rolleyes1

OK, I know I missed a bunch, but at least this one wasn't all about me. ;)

Welcome Janet and Sugaswim!

I ran my first 1/2 on Saturday. It was a mostly downhill/flat trail course along a mountain river. It was a beautiful run and the weather was perfect. I wasn't sure how I would do since I had never run more than 10 before and only doing that long twice. I was very surprised when I finished at 2:02! I felt really good and could have even gone farther. I beaned at just before 6 miles and did a little GU at 8 miles. (I hate that stuff!) I was a little tight later in the day and a little sore on Sunday, but nothing significant. Now I'm really excited to keep going.

Question/HUGE favor -- Does anyone have a calendar/spread sheet set up that has the MfM Walk the Full Marathon laid out on it?
I have't done that yet and don't have my MfM book with me, so I don't have any idea what the plan is like for the next several weeks. I am in the final month of the walk the half plan for DL, but was wondering how the walk the half and the walk the full plans will overlap for about 3 -4 weeks.

E-maililng you Run teh full info Cam. I think distances should be the same.

Interesting that the question should be asked about the calendars. I am finishing up one for me in MfM style. I've got the marathon set up and I am just getting ready to add changes for my Goofy training.

The run and walk distances are the same. During the week each MfM style is set up a bit differently.

I have been diligently getting my calendar ready and I think DH is thinking I'm a bit obsessed. DH has been looking at me like I left the planet.
:teleport:

This all leads me to the question. What is everyone doing to set up their training calendar? I have mine in a Word doc and will be putting in finishing touches tonight.

Last year, dh just put the training schedule into Outlook and printed out the monthly sheets. He did the same thing this year, but I imported it to my work outlook, as a separate calendar. I *think* I'll put the LRs into my main calendar so that they will be on my Palm, but don't want to clutter it with teh weekday stuff, except for when we're on our cruise. I really want to stay on track for that (OK, mainly so I can eat like I'm on a cruise. ;) )

For the DL 1/2 training, I created monthly calendars on calendarsthatwork.com and typed in the training plan. Then I reduced those calendars to 50% on the copier and cut them and pasted them in the journal I carry all the time, so that I can always see my training calendar a month at a time.

As I complete each session, I put in the information in the word document and then when the month is over, I replace the "training plan" version in my journal with the "training completed" version. I am actually using the WISH training journal that Sunny created, so it is a constant reminder to me of the objective and also built-in support from all of you.

I now have to create word versions for the MfM Walk the Full so that when I get back from DL, I can jump in on the training plan for the Full.

Carrie, Lily, and Cam--Wow, you girls are organized! I just made 2 copies of the MfM plan right out of the book, one is hanging on the fridge and the other is hanging on my cubicle wall at work. I did go through and write out my lr's on my work calendar, so I know what I have coming up that week. I'm very impressed with spreadsheets and Palm Pilot entries.

Carrie--Awesome job on your 5 miler! You were rocking.

Sonya--Congrats on your half marathon! That's an awesome time.

Sugaswim--Yay! We have another football fan!!  I have to become a Redskins fan this year for Antwan Randle El, I'm really going to miss him this year.

Monte--Once a Wish team member, always a Wish team member! :thumbsup2

Mel--I can't believe I forgot to tell you, Stephen and I were looking at the Steelers schedule, trying to figure out if there was a game we could get up to. Guess what game we're trying to get tickets to? I'll give you a hint, it's on Dec. 3rd. :teeth:

Sunny--I used to do ceramics when I was in elementary school too. My parents still have all of my creations, including Santa Claus bowing down to Baby Jesus in the manger. Every Christmas I beg my Mom not to put it out, but every Christmas she does. It really is pitiful looking with the paint out of the lines and all these crazy colors, and for crying out loud I painted Jesus yellow!! :artist:

Judy--And do you know where I was Dis-ing last night--the KITCHEN!! pirate: In Stephen's defense, we have no food to eat and I'm going to the grocery store on my way home. :teeth:

I did get to swim today! :cool1: Did about a mile and it felt real good! My JRT is still tired from the run this morning.
I was planning to run 3 this afternoon with DH, but I got a call and have to be at rehearsal for my production co early. :guilty:

NFL is not my strong point, but I do know the Panthers won this weekend! :cheer2:

OK, I am severely technologically challenged, but I am going to do my best to post a couple of pictures from the CDC. Here is the medal:

Ok, I am obviously going to need to resize. Let me work on it and I will post more later.....

Someone asked about the temperature yesterday - it was ideal for a walker. Low 80's, clear, slight breeze along the lakefront. The course itself is very flat, just a few overpasses, and most of the first half of the course is between tall buildings, so we were in the shade. The second half of the course is sunny, but it is right along the lakefront. It was amazingly beautiful.
DH and I finished in 3:30:26. We were 7185 and 7186 out of 7279. The average finish time was 2:09:30. Not a lot of penguins out yesterday!! But we didn't feel out-of-place, we just had a great time. At least until my feet got blisters! Alright, even with the blisters it was still a great time!!

I will post some pics as soon as I can!

I think I am getting the hang of this :cool1:

Here is a fellow WISHer (ICUnurse) who spotted our new awesome shirts and came up to say hi!

Here I am walking along Lake Michigan. The picture doesn't begin to do it justice. The lakefront and skyline are amazing.

Now if my feet will only start feeling better.....I am ready to start thinking about DL :woohoo:

Great Pictures Pat!!! It looks like a beautiful day, and it looks like you are having tons of fun!!! COngratulations to you and your husband.

Oh, Pat thanks so much for sharing the photos!!! :thumbsup2

You and DH look like you had a fabulous time on a fabulous day! That is what it's all about! :Pinkbounc

I will be soaking up that scenery in the Chicago full marathon on October 22nd. Can't wait!!

Dave -- I would still get the burger but maybe that is why I am not losing weight. Glad you had a good run around the mall. I would probably be too self conscious to run with that many people around.

tiffj -- I understand your pain with the computer. We had the same problem earlier this year but luckily I had backed everything up a week before so I didn't lose that much. However it did take awhile to get all the programs working again. Good to hear that your training is going well.

Matt -- Glad you had a good trip and had some fun on it. I always wish they would just put a sidewalk over that small canal so you can actually run around the entire lagoon.

Krista -- The calf is feeling better. It is still tight at times but it is loosening up nicely. After the first mile, everything usually feels stretched out.

Cecilia -- I'm glad you enjoy running on a track. I tried once and found I got too bored and lost count of the number of times I had circled around. I did like the surface though and wished the roads we made of the same material.

Carrie -- Good job on the runs. The times look great especially with hills in them.

Judy -- I think your activity definitely counts as cross training. However I don't think I would have the stamina to finish it. Mowing the yard once a week in our heat is hard enough for me.

Cam -- Sounds like you had a full weekend with training. Although I just though you were letting your Aunt do better than you to help her feel better :rolleyes1

Sunny -- pixiedust: on your doctor's visit. I hope they are able to figure out what is wrong and come up with a way to fix it.

Sonya -- Good job on the race. It looks as if you are well on the way to January.

Pat -- Good job in the race. The medal and pictures look great. I will have to think about this race in the future.

As far as training plans, I put Jeff Galloway's training plan into Excel with the week dates. Then I mark everything off with different colors and put distances down as I complete them. If I don't train a day, it gets colored with a different color so I can see if there any patterns to my laziness. I think the official training started in the middle of July but it corresponded pretty good to the half training so I have them overlapped right now.

I think the DL half happens to fall pretty close to the training miles so I am almost considering it a different type of training run.

We are hoping that the gels make it without leaking, however since we will get there early we have time to find a running store that is close to our hotels. For WDW, we are just driving over so we don't have to worry about it. If we need to bring extras, let us know and we can see what flavors we can get.

As for training, I went out tonight and did 5.08 miles with an overall pace of 11:09. It was definitely humid tonight and I swallowed more bugs than I have in the past few weeks. I am waiting for the temperatures to drop so these training runs get a little easier.
