Wk Of Aug 12 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Jackie--What kind of shoes did ya get?
Ended up talking myself out of a real shopping trip - took a virtual shopping trip instead to runningwarehouse.com. Decided if I was happy, might as well stick with the Nike Air Zoom Elites I've been wearing and save the money with our WISH discount. If I'd gone to Fleet Feet, they would have convinced me to buy them there, so this way I saved the gas and the extra $$. The only bummer is that the other color is available online, but they cost more, so I still ended up with the orange ones!

Cam - I'm wearing my Livestrong bracelet just for you today. Good luck tonight! I just got an invite to sign up for the one in Philadelphia, but that's a little far...

Meghan - Congrats on signing up for Indy! I suggested that perhaps I could run it in 2008 and then go to the race in '09, but Annie was having none of that. She's determined to see the race next year!

No training today. Set the alarm for 5:30 to do upper body weights, but turned it off. MUST go to bed early tonight and catch up on some sleep!

We have a "W.i.S.H." discount? Where can I find info about this?

It's in the sticky at the top of the board "Running/Walking websites". Basically you go to the runningwarehouse.com website and click on the team discount link at the top of the page. Type in WISHD, hit enter and you'll get 15% off your order (excluding Mizuno and ASICS products)!

Hi Eveyone...hope I found the right place. I'm interested in joining your great group and finally getting into shape :)

Currently I am walking a 5K three times a week (in a slow pace of around 49 minutes), and adding some weight lifting and ellipitical in between.

I'm trying to figure out if I should push and try for the ToT or hold out for the Minnie marathon or whatever the replacement is.

So I thought I would check with the expects and see what everyone thought
Thanks

Thank you, Jackie! What a sweetie you are! Oh, and if you are ever in Philly, PLEASE let me know. We are so close and I'd LOVE to meet up for dinner or something!

disneyluv -- :welcome: If you are already doing a 5k 3x/week, I would think it wouldn't be hard for you to be ready in about 10 weeks for ToT 13k. It sounds like it is going to be such an awesome gathering of the WISH team and a nighttime race with glow in the dark tee shirts is just nearly impossible to resist, isn't it? Aw, come on, you know you wanna!

Shan -- Congrats on the mileage!!! :woohoo:

Okay, I THINK my time tonight was pretty good compared to last year and considering the heat. I'll know the official time tomorrow adn I'll post my splits according to my Garmin, too. Just tooo tired now and I MUST go do my crunches and push-ups. Where's Maria? Is she watching? Jen? Shell? :rolleyes1 Allright. Allright already, I'm going!

Hi, Cam and I participated in the 3rd Annual Tour de Lance 5K tonight. They threw a nice after party. Shiner Beer, hot and bbq wings, pizza, nachos, hot dogs, pretzels, etc.

I ran a good race and finished in an overall time of 26:33 for a per mile pace of 8:31.

Here are my splits:

Mile 1: 7:41
Mile 2: 8:38
Mile 3: 9:17

I was about 2 minutes longer than my PR (24:53). I was still in recovery mode from our little jog at the CDC last Sunday. I was a bit sore at the start of the race tonight, but the kinks got worked out pretty quickly.

Have a great night! Happy Training!

:grouphug:

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

First off, I want to thank all the CDC racers for posting their trip reports, race reports, and pictures. You all are making me feel as though I was there with you. Thanks so much! I love the Reebok "Run Easy" slogans on the signs. I especially liked the one "A 10 min mile is just as far as a 6 min mile." Makes me feel good that I just bought DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess: Reebok running shoes at the Rehoboth Beach, DE outlets.

Yesterday I slogged through a 6 mile run in 58:29 min/9:43 mpm. My legs felt dead, and I felt very tired. It seemed like a ton of effort to get the steps in. I hoping I was just tired from the long drive back from Delaware on Tuesday. Who knows, I'll chalk it up as a run and move on...

Tonight is cross-country race night with my girls, DD6 pooh: and DD9 princess:. We had a lot of fun last week, and I'm hoping we have a good time again.

Krista- Hah, if I have control over it, I will be in Cincinnati to run the Flying Pig 08. I had such a great time with the WISH team, and seeing all the pictures of CDC makes me think that Cincy is going to be another fun time. I'm kind of hoping they don't revive the Pittsburgh Marathon in 08, because I will have a lot of family pressure to run it. My MIL lives one block off the old course, and would see the runners going by.

Jen- Have a great trip to "Ohio" ;) . When do you leave?

Monte- How did your outdoor walk go?

Renee- Congrats on your 3 mile run with your DD. That's awesome. How old is your DD? I seem to remember thinking she's older than my girls. Didn't you say that she wouldn't be happy with the toy aisle at Target for presents?

Beth- Wow, great job on the workouts yesterday. 2 runs and a pump class, you rock! :thumbsup2

WWDave- Great job on your walk yesterday.

Judy- Have a great trip to Canada. Hope your foot continues to heal.

Moon- Great job on the 6 mile run, and great job on the 90 lbs weight loss. Congratulations! Have fun with your friends in FL.

Leana- Your boot camp sounds tough. You keep it up.

Sandy- You are never, ever a loser. None of that talk here. Good for you for getting out there and getting your steps in 2 days in a row. Keep it up. Remember, no more of that loser talk here (or anywhere for that matter).

Kevin- Thanks for checking in. Sounds like you have a lot of stuff going on in your life right now. Good luck with your reevaluating and soul searching. I know that can be so draining. Good luck with your decision on the Toronto marathon. Don't be a stranger.

Vic- Wow, good for you for stopping and helping out with the accident. You're a real hero. :thumbsup2

Shan- Nice job on the 4 miler!

Meghan- Congrats on completing your first 1/2 marathon! WTG!!! Congrats on going over the 200 mile mark too.

Megan- Good for you for getting your miles in over lunch. WTG!!

Welcome disneyluv- Always room for another teammate!

Cam- Congrats on the Livestrong 5K last night!

Howard- Wow, I'm really impressed with your 5K time especially after running a half marathon this weekend. WTG!!!

Good morning, WISHers!

This morning I've got to take my dad to the airport, so my workout will have to wait until this evening when both kids have soccer. Since it's supposed to hit triple digits again, it'll probably end up being on the treadmill. Sigh.

Renee- Congrats on your 3 mile run with your DD. That's awesome. How old is your DD? I seem to remember thinking she's older than my girls. Didn't you say that she wouldn't be happy with the toy aisle at Target for presents?
You are correct! She is 13 (will be 14 in 2 weeks). For her birthday she wants a digital camera (since she can't have a trip to NYC for the weekend). Cha-ching!

Cam & Howard - Wow! Great 5K! And sounds like wonderful food afterward!

disneylov - WELCOME! Come join us at the ToT 13K - you could do it!

Jackie - I will be on the lookout for someone running in orange shoes! (I was out last weekend and saw someone with a Mickey shirt - wondered if it was you or Jeanne). Did you catch up on your sleep?

Shan - I hate running tights! I usually pull on a pair of short over them.

Leana - I guess one of the benefits of living in the south is not needing too much winter running gear. I have to keep reminding myself of this as you're getting to run in nice cool weather and I'm stuck on the treadmill!

Meghan - Hope your recovery goes well!

Vic - Horrible accident! I love the pre-marathon-training training! 9/16 will be here before you know it!

Kevin - Sorry you're going through a rough time. 2007 has not been a banner year for my family and sometimes it's tough. Seems like there's a lot of that going around!

Sandy - Good job with the 2 3 milers! I laughed at your comment about the cars/people passing! I used to feel the same way!

moon - Up at 4:30? I think you may have beat MSDave!

Judy - Have a good trip!

WWDave - Hope your walk is easier today!

Beth - Treadmill, treadmill, pump class ... makes me tired just reading your post!

Monte - A hike in the mountains sounds so good right now! And so does the rain!

Megan - Sometimes I'm really read after a run! It has been happening less, though. Not sure why.

Mr. DB - Boy, you are really into shopping right now! ;)

Sorry to anyone I missed!
Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Good morning, team!!!! So glad it's almost Saturday. :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: I had the most excellent 7 mile run last night--I needed that SO bad. I ran on the treadmill at Gold's in the cardio theatre. Normally I hate running there, because it's so hot in there, but last night it wasn't that bad. My time was 1:20:10, so about 11:30ish, but the best part is when the 7 miles were completed, I could have run longer--that NEVER happens to me. I'm the one looking at my Garmin every 2 seconds once I'm a tenth of the mile from being finished because I just can't take an extra step once I hit the magic number. And my legs feel great, not sore or tired, I even wore my big heels to work today. :) I'm just so excited because I've really been struggling with training for this marathon. Anything over 4 miles and I just don't want to do it. I've gotten in all my runs and my long runs, but I've grumbled and complained and hated every minute of it. So having a good 7 mile run last night was HUGE for me. :) Tonight I have xt and weights, so it should be a relatively easy day.

Cam and Carrie--You girls will be so proud of me, yesterday I only had 1 can of Diet Coke and I drank 50 oz of water. :woohoo: I wonder if that's what made my run so great last night. Hmmm...:scratchin

Cam and Howard--Congrats on your 5K last night! Can't wait to hear your splits, Cam!

Dave--Just bring your MIL to Cincy for the Pig, she can scream team with me. ;)

Kevin--Good to see you, ZB, we've missed you!! I hope life settles down for you soon.

Jackie--You remembered to get the free 2nd day air shipping from runningwarehouse.com, right? I ordered 2 boxes of Gu from them last Tuesday and it was delivered Thursday morning. And the savings were huge, my running stores sells the Gu's for $1.25, through runningwarehouse I got 48 Gu's with shipping for $42.50. I love a good sale!!!!! :woohoo:

Moon--Make sure you let us know what your friends say when they see you! Have you told them you lost the weight at all? I'm so proud of you and so excited for you!! Have fun this weekend.

Shan--Congrats on 200 miles!!! :dance3: And by the way, I have a feeling you will look fabulous in running tights! princess:

Disneyluv--Welcome!!!!

Well, I better get off here and get to work, have a great day, Wish team!!!

It is so hard to keep up with this thread so I am unable respond to each one individually, but everyone is working so hard and it helps to keep me motivated.

Moon-- Congratulations on your weight loss.

Good Job Cam and Howard on your 5K. You are lucky to have so many races close to you in the middle of the week.

Started the week off with the cold but it has improved.

So far this week training has consisted of

Tues 4 miles TM and Pump class
Wed 4 miles TM and stretch class
Hope today to do another 4 miles and pump class with CreativeBeth. We enjoy being tortured together by the instructor. This instructor would do well in the boot camp that someone mentioned that they go to. Despite what she tries to do to us we will never look like her and she just doesn't seem to realize that.

Plan for my LW on Sat. It is suppose to be a beautiful weekend in central PA so the weather should not be a factor with walking outside.

Nancy

So, I guess I am not getting out of the torture class tonight huh PaDisneyFan?:confused3 Darn it, thought maybe you would forget!:lmao: The last pump class was specifically a torture for me, huh?:sad2:

Yesterday was a 4 mile TM run after stretch class. After a mile, I really wanted to stop (((actually did for about 30secs))) but really didn't have a great excuse to stop. The kids were at b-ball with dh, and not coming home until after 7:30. I had already made supper before getting to the gym. I had a fan all to myself and a TV on reruns of Reba. My iPod was fully charged and working. I was really reaching for an excuse, but there was NONE. So, I got back on the horse for another 3 miles.....   I am glad I did NOW, but certainly not while it was happening! There was absolutely nothing interesting going on around me to distract me (I love watching crazy gym people). Oh well, I still got it done!

So, today is a big exercise day for me. I will run (on the TM since it's raining like crazy), I will have pump class, low impact aerobics with dh, and stretch.

SWDave: Thanks for the encouragement, but I have to say breaking up my six miles in two different TM runs was much easier than cranking it all out at once! The only reason I do pump class is b/c it's good for me. I wouldn't get any weights in without it! I hate the machines at the gym! And pump class really helps me get functionally strong.

PaDisneyFan: You have had an awesome week with having a summer cold! I am glad it's better and I will see you tonight for TP (torture pump!).

Alladinsgirl: Great job on the TM run! I love it when it all works out!;)

Everyone else have a great day!

Beth

:moped:

Sunny - I think your latest 'test drive' is happening today. Let us know how you are doing, ok?

Tiffany emailed me a few days ago. Her & the boys had a great time at Disney World. She is starting to get moving again with the couch to 5k program. She also said she misses everyone here!

Off to go camping up north. Training for ToT starts Monday - and I am bound & determined to get back at it 100%. That means with Weight Watchers as well. And it will be easier since Zack got into the preschool we really wanted! So, 2 days a week, I will have NO excuse for not working out. ;)

HI everyone. Just a quicky from me today. No training this week because I am just too busy. We leave for "Ohio" bright and early Saturday morning.

I am just so tired of all the stress in my life. I seriously never imagined I would be living a bad TV series life. Everything is so unbelievable and this stuff just doesn't have to average people like my family.

Kristi - Have a great time Camping

Krista - Wowzers on the TM run. Good for you and I am happy it was pleasant!!!! I am thinking about the Pig for 2008, but no promises yet. I am just getting over CDC and who knows how the full will be in January. I share your struggles with training... if I didn't get a medal in the end, I am not sure I would do this!!!

Dave - Saturday morning is the big day. We will have internet access since we will both be working while on vacation. I will try to pop in and update everyone on how the suprise went. My excitement for telling them is so high right now that I have almost blown it 1000 times. And the funny thing is that I have Disney stuff sitting in my room to pack and they have both looked at it, but no lightbulb clicks yet!!!

Cam (and Howard) - Congrats on the run last night!!!! Did you see the CDC photos are finally up.

Ok, gotta run (not literally!). Have a great day everyone. I miss my daily check ins and chats.

Last night I met up with the running group for a few speed pick ups. The plan was for a 10 min easy jog to warm up, 10 repeats of 2 min fast/1 min slow, then another 10 min easy jog to cool down. The easy jog was great - we were going slow and having a great conversation....and then the speed work started! The three gals I was running with took off and my speed just wasn't there. There were another two ladies behind me, but they were way behind me by the time the speed work started, so I was pretty well on my own the entire way. I've been holding a pretty consistent 11:30/mi on my training runs for months now so it looks like I really only have one speed. I found each pick up I was slowing down, partially because I was tired, but also because halfway through I was having some major chub rub issues! I totally forgot to put on Body Glide and I really regret that. It definitely made the rest of the run painful. I finished with 4.68 mi in 50:15 for a 10:44/mi pace. I think since I hated the speed work so much I really need to try and incorporate it on a regular basis to get better at it.

I also have some pretty painful "friction burns" this morning. We are supposed to be doing some running tonight at boot camp, so this may be a bit painful...

Hi Jen- So sorry for all the family stress you've been dealing with this year. I bet the Disney trip is something fun to look forward to. So are you going down for the Free Dining Promo? When I finally decided not to run the Disney Marthon in January 08, I was saying to my DW that "maybe we could go down next summer during the Free Dining Promo." Now I have something to look forward to.

Good moning Gentle WISH Warriors.

It's wonderful to see how the WISH group is growing. The idea is so important. It's groups like this that are the hope for the future for our country of out of shape people.

If our country were to take the WISH concept to heart and exercise regularly, our health care system would be wonderfully better quickly. The health care system is over whelmed by the injury and disease caused by the evils of smoking, overweight and unhealthy eating.

Our personal health costs would go way down since we healthy people are paying for the ones who choose to abuse themselves with the "Good life".

I would love to see our country make it easier to comute to and from work by walking or biking. Where I live there are very few sidewalks or even shoulders on the roads. We are a small town that grew up with poor planning for such things. I'm one of the few voices in the dark trying to get the changes made. It's slow but it's happening.

Ok off my soap box. I'm just in that kind of mood today. I was walking my miles this morning, having to walk in the gutter on the side of the road, bumper to bumper traffic with parents taking their kids to school or going to work. Nearly every car the driver was smoking, eating or talking on the cell phone or some of each. Number of other people I saw exercising "0".

Have a great day everyone, and thank you for being there.

Dave:hippie:

No time to read this thread yet. Sigh WTO/LTO. I have not done any w/o since I've returned from Chi-town. Want to let you all know I'm alive and kicking though.

I've done WISH Team Calendar updates. Check it out. Put yours up if I've missed it.

Okay, here are my official results from last night. I didn't do as well as I'd hoped, but I have to be realistic about the weather and being tired from CDC.
It was 83 degrees and 40% humidity (they actually put that on the website above the results. :) )
time: 44:42 pace 14:26 placement 644/804
last year it was 76 and clear and my time was 45:06 (14:33)

Howard and Jessica were totally rocking. I am so proud of Jess. She has never done a sub-8:00 mile before and their miles were 7-something, 8-something and 9-something. She was hoping to finish around 29:00 and I think they were around 26:25-30. How awesome is that! And she looks great, too! Here we are post-race (of course she had nearly 20 minutes to recover before I showed up! :lmao: )
ImageDisp.aspx

Okay, for some reason the link shows instead of an image, even though I put the image codes in.

Jen or anyone else going to WDW soon -

Could I trouble someone to pick up a park map from each of the four parks for me? I am more than happy to pay for postage.

I have framed park maps hanging in my DDs' bathroom and they look so great that I decided to do the same in my new office. I don't want to wait until January to get a set of maps and would really appreciate it if someone could send a set my way.

My walking assignments for this week are as follows: Monday 2.5, Thursday 2.5, Saturday 3, Sunday 2 - plus a cross training/weights video Today. :woohoo:

Thought I'd do a little checking in: Monday I did my 2.5, Tuesday I rested, Yesterday I did the 1 Minute Workout video with weights. Has anyone else tried that one? It's fantastic! The workout is completely customizable, broken into 1 minute segments put together. Sometimes they are good, like all the floor stuff in a row, then all the standing stuff. Last night's workout was up-down-up-down. The stretching is wonderful in the cool-down segment.

Tonight is a 2.5 mile walk. It's supposed to be raining, but I have a poncho. Yes, that's right, a poncho. It's red and unbelievably ugly. If you see any national news reports of a giant apple wheezing up some steep hills in Western Washington, you'll know who they're talking about. :thumbsup2

Enjoy your Thursday everyone!!!

Rachael
