Wk of Apr 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi all-- I haven't been on here in forever, but I have a quick question-- in the race info, headphones are listed as a prohibited item. Would this include Ipods, and if so, how strictly is this enforced? I can't run without music! Thanks.

Christa: hoping all goes well with the test.....sending pixie dust your way.

Beginning in 2008, all USATF certified events will ban the use of headphones, iPod's, etc. If anyone brings one on the course they will have to give it up or be disqualified from the event. I'm trying to find the press release on this, Christa posted the info a month or 2 ago.

ETA: From the USATF rule book. And it looks like the rule is effective now.

USATF Rule 144.3(b):
The visible possession or use by athletes of video or audio cassette recorders or players, TV's, CD or DVD players, radio transmitters or receivers, mobile phones, computers, or any similar devices in the competition area shall not be permitted.

Christa - Prayers still going out to ya! :goodvibes

Stephanie - I went to Target and saw the running skirt. It didn't look so hot on me. :rotfl: It came up too high on my waist and the fabric really showed off my leftover mommy pouch. Oh, my! :scared1:

Checked my BP today and it was 111 over 72. This is starting to be really weird. It is so erratic. One day high, next day low. :confused3

Wow, it will be hard to run w/o my ipod! I wonder if I can still do it then for the RFTT?

And I wonder if I can still wear my ipod with my Nike+ kit, just not use the headphones... :confused3

Thanks, aladdinsgirl. Ouch, that hurts! How am I supposed to forget that I'm running 26 miles without music to distract me?!?

I didn't know cellphones were included. I always carry mine in case something happens. I wonder if it is OK if I leave it in my waist pack for an emergency.

Also, if you are running in a big event like Disney, you will be suprised how you don't need music. There are so many people and things going on that you just want to be pulled into the excitement!

Seriously!!!! It was hard enough running the marathon WITH an iPod!! I don't really get the whole "no headphones" thing. I would think it's much more dangerous to wear them in training while running on road by yourself than on a closed marathon course, with hundreds of people around you, but you never know. :confused3

Christa - :wizard: and prayers. I went through this a few years back. Everything was ifine, bu did have to have it removed. PM me if you need an ear. :grouphug:

WOw, what a day. Leg's still feeling good, though. Hoping to get a good 30 min easy run in tonight. That may turn into cearching for a new bathroom floor XT. Scott wants to rip up our bathroom/laundry room floor and replace it while I'm gone. It's a nice htough. We'll pick something out. however, Soemthine will happen and it will liekly be another month before I see a new floor. Just the way our luck goes.

Jeanne? Can we make your wish for cloudy race-time skies for teh Minniers? ;) Thanks for teh god wishes. WISH you could come too!

Jen - I'm sure tehy won't check your pack. A cell in there shoudl be fine.

I have not heard that Disney was enforcing teh new headphone rule. We'll have to see. I don't typically use them whenI run with dh btu tam packing mine this weekend in case Martha gets tired of my yacking and turns hers on full blast! :p

Christa, continuing prayers for you that the results are fine.

Mel, what a clever pendant!

I always take my cell with me. Hmmmm, the music I find not absolutely necessary since talking along the way or observing keeps my interest. But the cell...Oh I just don't know if I like that very much.

3.1 miles on the TM this evening. :woohoo:  :rotfl:

Minnie Runners - Hope you guys have a great time.

Flying Pigsters - Hope you guys have a great time too.

Mike(Optimator) - Have a great race! I'll be having lunch at the Biergarten on May 11th. I'll tip one in your honor. :thumbsup2

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. I'll be sure to post the "what really happened" report fromt he Minnie Monday night;)

Gotta get on here before LTO.

Christa- Prayers for your health.

Vic- I can see why you were chosen for the Rockette duty- you've got the legs for it!

Mel-I may have to order that pendant. It's cute.

Stephanie- My DH 'forgets' that kind of thing, too!

Best wishes to all those racing this weekend! :cheer2: Have a great run.

I'm going to spend my weekend at a Scottish Heritage festival w/ the in-laws. Maybe I can get in some caber tossing for XT. I'm going to see if they have any running kilts!

Kiena

Good luck to all our TEAM members this weekend...you guys are the best:banana: :cool1: :woohoo: :cheer2:

Thank you for all the prayers! They said everything looked good. I do have to go back in 6 months to be rechecked, but WOW! God is so good! The girl that did my mammo and ultrasound was wonderful! She showd me everything on the ultrasound...even my ribs. :confused3 Not that I could tell what anything was. But I did see the lump I was feeling and WOW! They siad it was a cyst so THANK THE LORD!

OK. I do not use headphones unless I am running on the dreadmill so this does not bother me. I have issues with people using them on the trails b/c they cannot hear me coming on the bike saying pass or even running. I have also seen bikers using them. I think the reason they are really trying to push this is for the same reason.
Let me explain:
DH uses headphones, but has them turned down so he is aware of his surroundings. Some people totally zone out while they have them on and they are not aware of the people around them. I have had people almost knock me off the course b/c they were in their own world on the course. I agree that training with them is more dangerous...well until you add the thousands of people around. So I don't know, I know it helps people through the hard times though. It will be interesting if it is enforced.

Thank you for all the prayers! They said everything looked good.

So glad everything turned out alright!:)

Not much to report on from this end. Just wanted to say good bye to all the racers this weekend. Oink, oink, squeak, squeak (does Minnie squeak??)!
