Within an hour or so of where you live...

Elvis' birthplace
Tennessee Williams' (the playwright) birthplace

OK, that's all I can think of.

In addition to golfgal's agricultural tour of Minnesota :teeth: , within an hour's drive of our house you can see:

The Mall of America, the 2nd largest enclosed shopping mall in the world (Edmonton has a bigger one), which includes a theme park that is currently without a theme, having just lost the rights to use the Peanuts characters so it is no longer Camp Snoopy...

A number of world-class museums, including the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, Minneapolis Institute of Art, Weisman Museum, The Museum of Russian Art, The Science Museum of Minnesota...

More live theater seats per capita than any city in the US except New York City, including the Jungle Theater, Guthrie Theatre (about to move into a spectacular new venue), Children's Theater Company, and touring Broadway shows at the State, Orpheum, Pantages, and Ordway Theatres...

Lakes...lots of 'em! The 'Land of 10,000 Lakes' actually has 11,842 lakes of 10 acres or larger size...

The Shakopee/Prior Lake area about 45 minutes from our house has many possibilities for entertainment, including Valleyfair amusement park (owned and operated by the folks from Cedar Point), Canterbury Park horse track and card casino, and Mystic Lake Casino (said to be the 2nd most profitable Native American casino in the US due to its proximity to the Twin Cities area...

...and then, these are always the corn, soybean and sugar beet fields! :teeth:

I live in Louisville, KY. Lots to do nearby but here are the first 5 that popped into my head.
1) Churchill Downs/Kentucky Derby Museum
2) Speed Art Museum and the Planetarium next door
3) The Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington (along w/ the world famous bluegrass)
4) UofL basketball (or most any sport really, there are at least 4 or 5 that are top 25 including Basketball, football, volleyball, and fieldhockey)
5) A cruise on the Belle Of Louisville ( An old, original steamboat/paddlewheel) followed by dinner at one of the resturaunts along the river ( my favorite is Rocky's Italian Grill which is just across the bridge from the wharf)

Hmmm :scratchin let me see. Central Florida? Don't rush me. There must be something .

Oh yeah, we lay claim to the largest *single* collection of Frank Loyd Wright architecture in all the world! :snooty:

Just northwest of Lexington, KY:

-KY Horse Park-home of the 2010 World Equestrian Games-also has a nice drive thru light display around Christmas.
-Keeneland-one of America's premier race tracks.
-Take a tour of the Toyota automobile plant.
-Rupp Arena and the University of KY Wildcats-the museum is downtown.
-The Explorium-a children's museum.
-Shaker Village-a working Shaker village on the KY river about 35 miles from home.

Others:Red River Gorge-great hiking and camping.
Ft Harrod-1st settlement in KY.
Frankfort-state capitol.
John Michael Montgomery's hometown grill about 30 minutes away.

Most Louisville and Cincinnati attractions are close to or shortly more than an hour away. Both cities have zoos, Six Flags in L-ville, Kings Island north of Cincy. Lake Cumberland is an hour and a half away-one of the cleanest resort areas I have ever seen.

We have our share of Wal marts too.

I live in Lexington, so this is my list too! :goodvibes
