With the TREEHOUSES will SSR owners finally get...

I would be all for lower pts in the "Carousel" sections. Might make someone want to stay there :lmao:

I think we got booking categories at OKW because the "whiners" were loud and the rest of us were IGNORED!

Hi. Are there booking categories at OKW? If so, what are they? Thanks.

Thanks for the replies. I wa s not aware there were booking categories at OKW. Is that something automatically done if one asks for a room near the Hospitality House or is there some secret code or handshake needed? What is the method for utilizing such cateories that are not reflected on point charts?

HH is a reservation category at OKW, just like Boardwalk view and preferred view at BWV. Your reservation must state it. If you do not have an HH reservation, you will not get to stay in it.

That is good to know about both resorts. Once again I was out of the loop!

As an owner at SSR I do not want booking catagories. I have never booked my home resorts (also own BWV) at 11 months out. I have arrived at SSR late and got the last room available in the dreaded Carousel but we still had a great time and found that the walk wasn't to bad. We have also had amazing rooms in Congress Park and checked in late in the afternoon. I agree that Treehouse Villas are going to be special and have a seperate booking category but SSR is a very large resort and sometimes you may get a room that you have to walk a little bit further. This theory would say HH should have booking categories for marsh view, pool view or interior view. I'm just so happy to be on vacation at any resort that I am very easy to please.

If I'm not mistaken, there is no point difference in the room categories at OKW. But there is at the BWV. So for those of you that want booking categories at SSR, are you ok with point differences for preferred rooms? Are you willing to use more points to stay in preferred locations? There are 4 booking categories at the AKV. How many use maximum points to stay in these locations?

I'm not asking these questions for any reason other than curiosity. It seems like it's a pretty hot topic as far as SSR fans are concerned. Personally, I've stayed at SSR numerous times and haven't found a bad location yet. :thumbsup2

Barb,
Actually I don't think people want to pay more points, they just want to be guaranteed where they stay. Changing the point struture is actually much more difficult since we purchased with a certain structure.

Now for those of you who are saying NO, are you doing follow through. Because thouse who are saying yes ARE making thier thoughts known!!!! Being quite will just get us run over!

What's the difference between booking category and room category? Room is the type of room and booking category is where it is located?

Either would fit for the treehouses. I swear I saw Disney wording that they are a new booking category though.

Found it, the email says "room category." http://sev.prnewswire.com/travel/20080916/NYTU07216092008-1.html

I just thought I'd chime in and answer your question from my point of view. We own at AKV. We are absolutely willing to use more points to guarantee a view of the savannah. For us having a savannah view room is a big part of the experience of staying at AKV. We are also planning to treat ourselves to the occasional concierge stay if we can get it (we have it booked as an anniversary present to each other this December). However, I also like that AKV has lower point options available as well. So essentially at AKV I like having the booking categories with different point values.

However, at any other resort (other than BLT's MK view), I wouldn't pay extra points for a better view. So at SSR, we'd be happy just looking at whatever. We think it's a beautiful resort based on pictures, and we are hoping to stay there in the future.

I guess you can put me squarely in the "it doesn't matter to me either way" camp, LOL!

If they would split out reservations by section at SSR (not counting the THV which have to be separate because of the occupancy difference), I doubt they would revise the points chart. When they split out boardwalk view from preferred pool/garden at BWV, they did not revise the points needed even though boardwalk view is more in demand. When they split out the HH at OKW, they did not revise the points needed even though HH is more in demand. They mainly did it so that you would know up front what you were getting to avoid disappointment at check-in. The only time they did revise the charts was very early in the BWV sales they split out standard view for less points.

And the BIG difference between SSR and AKV is that the "views" were spelled out when I bought.
When I bought SSR I was buying the resort as presented. Now folks want to change the rules. When you bought there was a plat showing the resort, there was no indication that you were going to be guranteed a section.

OKW owneres bought the same way..."as is" with no guarantees. That didn't stop DVC from offering guaranteed Hospitality House recently.

Yes and as an OKW owner I am NOT happy with that.
So I think it's up to the SSR owners to make thier views known. Right now I think the only views being presented are the group that WANT the categories.

No matter what you do or don't want you probably should let them know!

I agree. Besides, the HH booking catagory didn't stop people from requesting "near HH" when they didn't get the guaranteed catagory anyway. It's a royal PITA! I wish we could do away with the HH booking catagory at OKW. My favorite area is buildings 45 and 46...So are they going to make THOSE a special catagory too?

I agree, let them know. I think the reason they split out boardwalk view at BWV was because there were so many complaints about who got the boardwalk views. When I bought in 1999, I was told it went by reservation date. My guide said if I made my reservation at 11 months, I should be one of the first in line for the boardwalk view. My first long awaited reservation, I got quiet pool, very disappointed. When they decided to come out with "room ready" where rooms were assigned at check-in, they knew this issue would be a mess. So they spiked out the boardwalk view into a separate category so those who made the reservations first got it.

me too...
and those buildings in Timbuktu that were added later on were not in those original plans.

I'm all for booking categories (and wouldn't mind paying fewer points for a room in Timbuktu)
