With the outrageous prices, why isn't Coronado Springs a deluxe resort?

I've checked prices at all the Disney resort hotels, and I see that rooms at Coronado Springs are over $400 a night, some over $500. Isn't that pretty steep for a moderate? What's so great about that hotel that justify's charging so much? I'm sure it's a great place to stay, but I've seen deluxe resorts with lower prices.

You're probably looking at a business class room that includes daily continental breakfast, evening snacks and beer and wine.

No, they are looking at the suites. CSR has suites that are Deluxe type money. The most expensive Business Class room is under $300.

Really suprised someone with 15,000 posts wouldn't know this.

I'm staying at CSR next year. I booked my trip at rack rate. I'm paying $199 per night for my room, so not sure what you're looking at. That price is in line with the other moderates.

For one thing, it's not built like a deluxe - no inside corridors with balconies. It's a convention resort. And it hosts lots of conventions. People who attend conventions like certain things, like free breakfast, evening drinks.

What they said. The hotel was built more for business people and conference goers than for vacation families. I believe they only built it as a moderate because of the lack of moderate resorts at the time.

The suites are big and airy and well worth the money, but they really don't have deluxe amenities. We just got back Friday from staying in their Casitas Executive Suite and it was amazing. We have also stayed in their standard rooms (before we became a family of 5) and we loved it too. The resort is HUGE and widespread, so that part kind of stinks but we drive, so the only real hike from the Casitas section is for the Dig site and it's a nice walk anyway :)casit.jpg
This is the main entryway and to the left is a bedroom, full bath, kitchen area, dining room and straight ahead is that little desk area and a bathroom. To the right is a large living room, closet and another bedroom, bathroom, Jacuzzi and set of closets.

I just paid an average of $155 per night (standard room) with pass holder discount for a 6-night stay in December (Dec. 8 to Dec. 14), many of these days being at the rate of the pre-Holiday season (the 2nd highest rate of the year, I believe). CSR is the most "deluxe" of the moderate resorts.

Is that with tax?

Last December we stayed at CSR because it was the least expensive of all the moderates that had a discount available. I thought that it was well worth the cost.

The price for CSR can be deceiving because it offers room types not found at other moderates. When we were looking for rooms this fall only suites were still available so the price coming up on the website was high.
