WITH PICS: "As delectable as... UPDATED!!

Great reviews! Your pictures are making me hungry!!!!!! And yes, you can run the marathon. :)

Krista

Thanks for the great reviews!
Boy that dough bar looks tempting, I will have to try that on my next visit!

I was also unimpressed with schoolbread. I thought it was like a Boston Cream doughnut, but with vanilla & coconut on top instead of the chocolate glaze. It was also just too big - I can see it getting a little gross towards the end if you are eating a whole one by yourself.
Give me a French pastry any day over the Norway baked goods!

Who knew there were others who didn't really care for the schoolbread????:lmao:

Oh no! I just got an email from photobucket stating how I'm close to exceeding my monthly bandwidth allowance. Is this because so many people are looking at the pictures? Anyone recommend putting my pictures on another site? I'm not putting more pictures up, hmm.... Hopefully I'll post day 8 and 9 tonight or tomorrow. The semester started again this week so that's why the uploading has slowed down.

Thanks for all the praise and I hope this helps with all your planning, and craving. Also thanks for the support of not liking schoolbread. I hate boston creme donuts!

Day 8--wow can't believe I'm here already. Anyway sorry for the delay, the start of the semester has really slowed down my posting speed.

So after the nauseating chili I had on the previous day, I did something equally stupid. Eat this:

Oh, those devils. We had an early ADR for Boma so we wanted a "light" lunch and my dbf had missed his turkey leg last trip. Obviously they had changed the recipe or my dbf remembered it different because both of us felt so gross after eating this...this...greasy, fatty, overly smoked hunk of unknown meat. I ate a few bites but I've never been into them and chucked mine. DBF was dumb (he doesn't believe in wasting things) and finished it off. Double  So we ate this around 11:30 and headed to AKL around 4. We still felt gross and dissapointed since Boma is our favorite.

So we were one of the first people to be sitted, ordered our drinks, and went up to the buffet (although neither of us were very hungry).

Those are my plates of food. The first two are mostly salads--yum. I tried the seafood gumbo but I'm not a fan. And PS the kid's macaroni and cheese is delish! I also tried the coconut curry salmon-yum. I was dissapointed they didn't have any mango tartlets like last year, which are my all-time favorite but the mango dressing was very good. The desserts were alright. I think I ate mostly fruit and the cassava cake (what? I like it!) Last year we ate/tried probably 7 plates of food. This year it was a measly 3 of mostly vegetables...so sad.

Food: 4.5/5
Atmosphere: 4/5- AKL is beautiful!
Service: 3.5/5- Not great, not terrible.

Would I go here again? Oh yes. It's a must-do for me.

Since I had mistakenly thought Spectromagic was every night (I know, I'm a terrible Disser!), we made it back to MK to experience the parade and the fireworks. We picked up breakfast for day 9 at the Mainstreet Bakery--sadly French Toast loaf is only served in the morning.

When we got back to Pop, I was kind of hungry, DBF felt so sick! So we went to the food court where I ordered just some breadsticks.

They were alright. The dipping sauce was some foul meat sauce. Marinara would definately have been better. But the bread itself was fine, but below the sticks you get at TGIFridays.

BTW Mainstreet bakery is beautiful, but crowded before parades! I waited for 30 minutes, when most people were just ordering hot cocoa. (It was a chilly night)

Next- our last day, and Yak and Yeti.

Your reports are great and I LOVE the photos, I'm STARVING now! Looking forward to hearing a bout Yak and Yeti! xxx

I've enjoyed reading your reviews (especially now that the pictures are visible again).

A couple of comments ....

I can't believe there wasn't a dessert sampler on the menu at Spoodles!! :faint:

Someday I must try a Lapu Lapu, if for no other reason than to pay a ridiculous amount of money to slurp alcohol from a pineapple.

It looks like you have a little chocolate AOL man on your macadamia tart!! :lmao:

You've done a great job and the pictures are fab - looking forward to more! :thumbsup2

Very off-topic, but my name (Leslie) is Lekili in Hawaiian . . . . Maybe his name was Lester ?

I think he was from Morocco, so I had no idea.

Well thank you. I love looking at pics. And while I didn't get the Lapu Lapu it did look very good and it didn't skimp on the alcohol.

I like the idea of sharing the lunches.

It worked out nicely if you can agree on what you like. It's nice to eat one earlier and then get another a little later on.

AND NOW....THE FINALE: Day 9

First off sorry for the delay. School really gets in the way. It's my last semester and I have about 3 projects I'm working on.

So this morning, we started off our day with the goodies I had picked up the night before at the Mainstreet Bakery.

These very big and yummy. However, I think I prefer danishes over turnovers. I had really wanted the french toast loaf but after waiting on line for 30 minutes (this was about 6-6:30 and the electrical parade started at 7) I wasn't leaving empty handed after finding out they only have that in the morning. So I copied the dbf and picked one up for myself as well. Definately a good use of a snack credit and gives one heck of a sugar rush.

After checking into our flight and leaving our luggage we made our way to epcot to visit our favorites (one last on Spaceship earth yay!), and then hopped to MK to do the same. At around 11:15 we decided to hop on over to AK to make our 12:30 ressies for the Yak and Yeti. However on our way we couldn't resist the urge to get Caseys. It was on my list of places I had to go while in Disney (thanks to the Dis)

Boy did it live up to expectations. Delicious was it truly was. And the cheese sauce...a very nice touch. Now they weren't the most amazing corn dogs I've ever had, (and to be honest morningstar farm has a really good veggie version) and the fries were the traditional disney fries, nothing special. But it hit the spot. I'd definately recommend stopping there! Plus it's fun to sit on the stands and watch old disney cartoons--the only place I could find them at Disneys (Off topic but where did the old disney cartoon channel go????)

However we learned the hard way there is no direct route to MK to AK, you have to go to the ticket and transportation center. So we head over to the monorails (it's now around 11:30-40) and wait for one. Well we accidently head on the non-express line and it takes a good 10 minutes for a monorail to come. We get on it and what do you know, it's malfunctioning! We have to get off. So we wait a few more minutes (it's 12 at least) and I'm starting to insist we get over to the express. We rush over as one pulls up, hopping over a railing and make it. We get to the TTC, rush to find the AK bus. It's there hooray! (it's now 12:30). It takes off within a few minutes, but it's a good 10 minute trip to ge there, at least. So we rush to the entrance and we have to have our back inspected (it's our last day so we both have our carryons). Well my guy breezes me by, looking very briefly. on the OTHER HAND, dbf's inspector, rips his bag apart and finds his ireland mug that he purchase. He can't take it into the park and must check it. This had taken about 5-10 minutes and we're worried about the ressies. He tells me to run ahead and check if they'll take us. I run along and get to Y&Y at about 1. They tell me it will be 20-30 minute wait. Well I'm freaking out because our bus to the airport leaves at 4:30 and we still want to go to DTD and to Goofys to use our 7 snack credits. By then DBF has caught up with me. He's frustrated, I'm frustrated. What to do? I really wanted a piece of that mango pie so as I waited on the long time to get one I call disney dining, and find out I can make ADRs for Wolfgang Puck's Cafe at 1:30. I take them but i realize we've already been waiting for 10 minutes and just decided to wait for the Y&Y. I get off line and DBF rejoins me and we check to see if our name has been called. As we waited to get the attention of the hostess, they call our name. (It was only about 10-15 minute wait, and it's only about 1:05-1:10).

It took a few minutes for our waitress to come and take our drink orders and as we were rushed we order as well. Well it quite a while for our drinks to come (or maybe we were just really impatient :confused3) and then our food was delivered soon afterward. I had the tempura shrimp and DBF has the coated Mahi mahi.

I enjoyed the shrimp. It was nicely breaded (however not light and crispy like a tempura, more heavy, like the battering on the doh-bar) and it was fresh, hot and properly cooked. The veggies were tasty, but the ride was blah! I ordered this dish especially so I could get the coconut rice! It was mushy and tasted like a lipton packet of rice. I was expecting more along the lines of the sticky rice of a thai restaurant (anyone have sweet sticky rice with mango??) Anyway, if you order the shrimp, order just regular jasmine rice.
Dbf said the mahi mahi was good but not nearly as good as Kona Cafes. I think we were just happy we got our food. For dessert we both knew we wanted to mango pie.

And this did not dissapoint either. My favorite dessert in all of disney. SOOO good. Definately made up for the lack of mango mousse tarts at Boma the previous night. It did take a while to come and it was not from our waitress and I wanted the check. In the mean time I realized I couldn't find my passport to the world keycard and started freaking out. Where did I put it? So finally our waitress comes and I ask for the check, to which she smugly replies she had it with her, and she also had my card which she never returned after taking it in the beginning to check our dining plan. She also took forever to bring the check back and never refilled our drinks (which I always feel is a big negative). However the check rang up only for our entrees, not dessert or drinks but we still gave her the tip on everything, which she was very thankful for but didn't deserve.

By the way, there were several (more than enough) empty tables in the restaurant. There was no need to make us wait, along with many other people outside.

Overall:
Service: 2.5/5 I didn't like her but it's tough to judge off one server, one time
Food:4/5- 5 for the pie though! However you can pick it up at the CS!
Atmosphere- 3.5/5 It was cool looking but we were in the center of the first room near the entrance--not much ambience.

I'd maybe go there again, but I'm not itching for it. I think I'll head over to the CS and just pick up a piece of pie. I'd definately want to try the new tusker.

We were still making good time so we headed over to DTD and Goofy's to use up our snacks (and it's definately a good place to do it). DBF got 3 MYO- 2 rice crispy treats for his parents (awww...) and a marshmallow with milk chocolate, oreos and white choc. drizzle. He said that was so delicious. I got the MYO pretzel sticks-2 sets- (dark with pecans and caramel, milk with oreos and white, white with oreos and milk, plus milk with butterfinger pieces). Sadly I didn't take pics...I know, terrible! Plus I also got a snow white cupcake (yay snow white) and a dory cookie.

And just so you can drool over...

The cupcake was alright. The cake was chocolatey and fresh but the frosting just tasted a little off--too sugary I think. I don't think it was buttercream, and wasn't vanilla-y.
Sadly the cookie was not what I expected. I thought it was a frosted sugared cookie but it was white chocolate covered sugar cookie. I don't really like white chocolate so I took one bite and stopped there. I would have definately picked a different cookie if I never. I love frosted sugared cookies (like with icing).

Definately if you can spare credits, use it here. There are so many goodies, and the MYO last a while. I still have the pretzel rods surprising, and they are still tasty and fresh.

After heading back to the resort to wait for the bus, we still had 2 cs credits to use (didn't use any yesterday or for Caseys today) so we shared an order of chicken fingers, and I grabbed another greek salad (no dressing) for the flight. We just didn't want to waste the credits. However I never did end up eating that salad... sorry no pics. I had about pushed DBF to the limit with my pics.

Ok well that's a lot for tonight. I'll leave one last review/wrap up for later. Please enjoy and thanks for reading!
