Just starting weight watchers on Wednesday. We are heading down to Disney for 11 days at the end of September. It's all going to be a struggle in willpower.

We are booked at at least 3 buffets, probably more. Plus we have reservations for at least 5 or 6 other places, that I hear offer big portions.

Does anybody have a recommendation for a healthy place or places to eat?

Dang, this is going to be a challenge!

I would just give yourself the time at Disney to have what you want. If you think you cannot have something you will want it more and eat more of it.

Have a great holiday.

Will there be someone in your group you could split meals with? That way you could still have the great food, just not so much of it!

My MIL has been on WW for about a year and a half or so, and she's done great. She said it's easier than some diets, because you can still have things, you just have to count the points from them and stop when you run out for the day. Not stop eating, just eat things that don't have points, which, at WDW, may as well mean stop I guess.

I hope you do well with WW and enjoy your trip!

Defer WW till after your trip!

calories are negative at WDW
you walk them all off.

:)

go and ENJOY your vacation...

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Just keep walking.....................It never fails that I either lose weight or stay the same after a trip to WDW..........And boy do I love to eat....................

I've done weight watchers, successfully, but never even consider thinking about it with all those great 'eats' around WDW.......

Enjoy yourself.........do lots of walking........and get back on the WW horse when you get back.........

:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

That's why they invented them. ;) Also with the new core plan, you can eat all you want of "good for you" foods. Just make sure you eat a lot of those on buffets! ;):sunny:

I wish I could but I just had a physical and was found to have mildly high blood pressure. I'm on medication that I "might" be able to come off if I can get my weight in order.

I figure one or 2 splurges over 11 days won't be too bad. It's gonna be all those buffets that will really test me.

Thanks.

I have a recommendation for you. Forget about your diet while in Disney. Eat, eat, and eat some more. Worry about your diet when you get home. See if you can break my record of gaining 11 pounds in one trip:D

Make the best choices you can. And do not beat youself up for it. Drink lots of water. Walk alot. Explore your resort in the morning & before you go to bed.

If you can't split meals, another idea is to order an appetizer or soup and a salad instead of a full entree. My guess is that would be enough to fill you at most places.

As for buffets, I know this totally goes against the traditional law of buffets to just go straight to the good stuff, but I really love salads. I make sure I eat lots of greens even if I go to a buffet. It's better to eat too much lettuce than too much beef or chicken. Eat slowly so you can feel when you're full. And one nice thing about buffets is you can just take a tiny bit of something if you want.

I think there are healthy options at most WDW eateries, you'll just have to make the right CHOICES. Even at some fast food locations, you can order carrot sticks instead of fries.

Maybe you could check out www.allearsnet.com (hope I got the link right...Deb's website with the menus...) now, and "pre-select" some good choices, and don't deviate from that list when you get there.

Also, have you visited the WISH Board yet? I'm sure there's lots of great "eating at WDW" advice there!

Good luck, you can do it!!! :wave2:

Go to dwlz.com (dottie's weight loss zone ) for ideas. You can splurge and hold your own. Ideas they've shared: huge salad, and lots of water or diet soda before you show up for the meal.

It's hard to do, but I actually lost 2 pounds eating at Beaches and Cream because of all the walk and swimming at the pool.

My weight watchers leader recommends the 3 trip rule for buffets. 1st trip, big salad, try for a low fat dressing. 2nd trip entree. Don't load your plate but try a little of everything you'd like. Trip 3 choose one dessert. It's worked for me, even at Disney! I think the true test to dedication on a weight loss program is finding a way to stay on even when we are traveling or having a special occasion. Good luck!

Well this may not be a good answer:p (sorry to try and make you lose your will power) but EAT EAT EAT and EAt lol. IMO half of the fun of Disney is being able to experience the food. I have a no diet rule at Disney. Also think of all the nice healthy walking you will be doing;) Have a great trip.

You probably booked them for the characters, but I would cancel the buffets, except for maybe one character meal. Buffets really do encourage you to overeat just because it is there. And so many buffets WDW are overpriced, and a lot of them aren't very good. I'd aim for regular service.

i was on ww last trip and did ok ( well till it came to the pastries and ghriadelli sundaes :o !) by splitting a vkl voucher with husband for most of our "big meals and eating counter or light the other meals. most of the sit down places had pretty good choices if you chose right. imo the buffets are deadly...way too much food that costs way too much if you don't eat a lot and way too easy to overeat. even non ww husband said never again to the ayce ( except an exception for trail's end and the wc breakfast skillet since we really like those two rests. and breakfast is not as tempting)

Last time I went to WDW I was in the middle of a weight loss regiment. I wasn't doing weight watchers, but I was being calorie conscious. A couple rules I followed:

1. stay away from fried food.
2. grilled or roasted chicken is your friend. You can eat lots of it (no skin)
3. Most breakfast food is bad.
4. You do not have to clean your plate. This mentality has made more people overweight than anything. You paid a lot of money for the meal. You don't have to eat it all.

A diet isn't a temporary thing. If it's going to work, you have to change your lifestyle and the way you look at food. You should not want to stuff you face full of greasy, fatty foods. :crazy2:

no offense to any other posters but imo do not just throw caution to the wind...you walk but not enough to make a difference ( at least not for me) and can chose things on program so why waste all your previous effort just for a few days? unless you are the type who needs to eat a lot throughout the day i ate 2 small meals and then saved enough points that way to split a nice 3 course sit down lunch ( with vouchers as stated before) I wasn't hungry at all but did eat some extras along the way but evidently did walk enough to pretty much maintain while we were gone( 17 days in all, some in Vero beach and on the road) also most places offered a fish/ seafood along with chicken and wdw always tried to accomadate special requests... look at the menus on line and "pre-chose" your food so you won't be tempted..then you won't even have to look at the menu in most places.

you want to enjoy yourself and for me the splitting is the way to go.. I have read that after 3 bites you are really "taste" satisfied so see if you can get a few bites of someone else's treats which will save a ton of money and points!

you can do it!!! ( now I have to get back on program as i have sorely slipped!)

I think we have 3 - 4 character dining experiences set up. My wife is doing most of the planning; I just call and order the tickets. Buffets are going to be the death of me!

Willpower, willpower, willpower.

I guess if I find anything especially exceptional I will just enjoy it.

Thanks, Chuck

think of dieting at Disney. Not acceptable. Forget about it and enjoy your vacation. Then, get back to counting your points. There's always time to lose weight.
