Wishes Dessert Party ADR Watch Thread December 1-29 2012 Now Open!

What are the chances of people cancelling the dessert party? Does it happen often? I didn't realize until yesterday that September's opened up, and we are getting married in Disney and will be there for our honeymoon, and it's fully booked for the last week in September :( This is something we really wanted to do...

Has anyone else booked a dessert party on a Sunday for either August or September? I did, and it shows up in my account okay. I'm just getting worried though, after reading in mulitple threads that the dessert party often isn't held on Sunday nights during free dining and is replaced by a full buffet instead to help with overflow. Should I call back and verify that I have in fact booked a DESSERT party buffet and not a regular buffet?? :confused3

I suppose it's possible that someone could cancel. Especially when I believe you have to give a credit card to book the reservation. It's not like it's a regular ADR where you aren't charged anything if you just don't show up. So I would just keep checking daily to see if anything opens up. Good luck! And congrats on your upcoming wedding! :goodvibes

I'm so sorry Kristi, I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that someone will cancel.

Keep checking the September cancellation thread, you never know. x

Please check your PM's.

This will be our 3rd year doing the dessert party and my boys have come to know it as just the typical way we watch fireworks:rotfl: Just got my reservation for Sep 19th! Yay!!!! This is my favorite!!!

We are trying for the week of Sept.11th. Apparently there will not be a party Sept 11th, even tho the booking calendar shows it on Sundays. If Disney doesn't expect to hold these Dessert parties on Sundays in Sept, why do you think they programmed the computer with those dates? :confused3

We are a party of 2 adults. The other party dates our week are Sept 12 or 14. Both show no availibility for a party of 2. Out of curiosity, I tried to book a party of 4--avaibible both dates. Tried a party of 3---availible both nights. I can actually book for 2 adults & a child under 2 for the same price as for 2 adults since there is no charge for a child under 2.

So do I do it? Book for 2 adults & the under 2 child, telling them we decided not to bring the child that night? They will not be losing any money since the child doesn't pay anyway & neither will I. Or am I forced to miss something we really want to do, just because there are only 2 of us?

Also, we had asked our Club level IPO to book this for the 14th. They told me there was no more availibility, bet we would be put on a Wait List. However, on line site still shows ADRs for parties of 3 or 4.

Since these dates just opened for booking, I think Disney just wants to try to sell as many spots as they can. If I recall, the tables are all about the same size, so it's not like they couldn't make them 2 seaters if that is what guests are trying to book. I really feel like We should be entitled to book, even if there are only the 2 of us.

That stinks. :( We booked a party of 2 for the 14th, but it was probably in the first hour they opened. I don't know what it would hurt to try to book two adults and an under 3 as they aren't losing anything. Sounds like something people would love to jump on and call morally wrong though.

I know. That's my dilema. I can just see folks posting how we are taking a spot from someone else. But what about me? I want a spot, too. Even if there are only the 2 of us. I have been watching for months for this to open.

I am a nurse & worked 12 hour shifts Wed & Thurs. So didn't see it was open til I got on line late Thurs. By then, all I got was the "No Availibility" message. That's when I e mailed the YC IPO but got the same story from them. :sad2: This afternoon I remembered reading about people getting ADRs at regular restaurants for a different number if their party size wasn't available. I actually was considering booking a third adult, until I was asked for no. of adults & children on the booking page. That's when I realized I could book a child under 2 for no charge.

If disney would just book "first come, first served" I wouldn't have to play these games. I may just do it. I'm pretty sure they won't turn us away that night. After all, they will have the money from 2 adults anyway. And if anyone complains about us depriving a real party of 3, I'll complain back that they are depriving us.

And thanks for understanding!

ADDING: in checking the website, I could make ADRs for 3 to 24 people on the 12th & 3 to 16 people on the 14th, but can't make an ADR for 2. :sad2:

I am booked for Sunday and It is the Desert buffet I am sure...that is what is shows on my reservations as well. The buffet is prepaid and the regular one is not, so they would not charge credit cards if it was not the buffet. Also when we did it last year it was on MVMCP and we watched the Holiday wishes....I have never heard about the Sundays being a regular buffet :confused3

Thank you! This is a big relief!!

That is just insane. Now I am nervous for when they finally do open up the October bookings that I might have a problem too since I need to book for a party of 2 as it is just myself and DH.

Believe me I will be very tempted to book for 2 A and 1 under 2 if I run into this problem, since as was mentioned it will be the same cost and I have been waiting months to book the dessert party and will do what it takes to get my reservation.

I do not feel I or anyone should be penalized for only being a party of 2, it should be on a first come first served basis.

Couldn't book online for 2, but could for 4 so I called and was able to book September 19th @ 8:05 for 2. Woo Hooo.
Hubby is gonna be so excited. That is our first day there and what a way to start Disney!!!

Try calling. If you can't make reservations on the phone I would go ahead and book for two adults and a toddler. :P You have just as much of a right to go to the dessert party as a larger party.

I just tried to book for 2 ppl online on 9/19. It said there wasn't anything available. I tried to book for 3, and there was availability. So I just called and tried to make the reservation for 2, and they said that nothing was available for that night for 2. He tried for the whole week and there was nothing. I got off the phone with him and went back on and tried for the 3 again. Of course, it says there's availability. I guess they only have so many tables set aside for 2 ppl and don't want to waste those extra chairs?? :confused3 Anyway, I booked for 3, even though there's only 2 of us. You have to select how many adults, children, and infants that will be on the reservation. We just selected 2 adults at the full charge and put our 3 as a child under 2 with no charge. I guess this works. :thumbsup2 Worked for us anyway. We were willing to spend the money on the extra person anyway. We really want to do this because we're getting married at Disney the 15th and celebrating our honeymoon. Just thought I'd let yall know about this option.

I had been trying online for days & tried calling yesterday...no luck for ANY possible dates during our stay when party of 2 was used. So, I just booked online with "phantom child" and will call to adjust the ressie. So stupid to have to do it this way, but I'm not going to take any more chances & end up missing out on this ~ we love this event!

Good Luck! I hope you get the date you want. :goodvibes I can't believe we are having to go thru all this drama to book this party. :sad2:

I didn't call because I had the YC Itinerary Planners making my reservations. They are the ones who told me there was no spots open but that we are on a "Wait List". First I ever heard of a wait list. I'll see if that pans out, but in the meantime, I did book for 3.

:rotfl2: My "phantom grandchild" will be tired & staying with her parents that night! :lmao: Wonder if we will be able to downsize to a reservation for 2 later without problems? Let us know if you try it!

Thanks to everyone for your understanding! :goodvibes I was very nervous about posting this strategy. I didn't want to start any controversy, I just want to eat some over priced desserts & give Disney even more of my money!!! :rotfl2:

I tried to book October 14th using all kinds of number of people in my party and still now luck. Has anyone had any luck for that date?
Thank you!
