WISHcon 2005!! Anyone here interested in setting this goal with me???

join you guys?

I went to the gym at work today and signed up after a 7 year absence, I talked to the fitness guru and he said it was a good plan for me and very obtainable given that I have 14 months to train. He got on the treadmill and showed me the 16 min. mile pace, not too bad it was 3.7 on the treadmill and if I remember correctly I USED to walk at 4.5 and run at 5.5.

I have been struggling to lose weight when all this time, I had forgotten how much I LOVED going to the gym and walking on the treadmill and running, I know if I can do this the weight will drop off.

I'm starting, I have tears in my eyes.

Please add me to the list if you don't mind me joining in.

Rachael

Hey, I just saw this (linked from a zurgswife's post on the CB). I am already planning on it! DH is doing the full marathon and I will be doing the 1/2! See ya there!

Add me and my DW to the list. We would love to give it a shot.

Hey everyone! Things have been so crazy with the holidays coming up!!!
I will update the website in early December. Please email me your info!

Sorry for the delay in updates! I am working on getting more details for the event and hope to be able to iron things out better after the New year......

If you haven't started training, enjoy your holidays then it is time to kick it into gear!! Good luck and can't wait to walk with all of you!!!! :grouphug:

I really want to participate. I hope I can do this. It kind of makes me catch my breath to konw that registration is oooohh so early. I am not confident in myself and wonder about the nonrefundable registration. Hmmm must think...so little time.
:hyper:

Thanks for the info, I am so excited to do this!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce:

Tiger Lily, I say invest in yourself!! I just saw a very cool saying

"Triumph" is just "try" with a little "umph".

Do ya have any "umph"??? I bet you can do it, especially with the rest of us here to help you and cheer you on!

Count me in! I can't wait to register!

From the WDW Marathon Website:

Why just run when you can fly, you can fly, you can fly.

You may not be on your way to Neverland, but with a sprinkle of pixie dust this flight through the most magical place on earth will make anyone feel like a kid again. And whether you're an experienced runner or a leisurely jogger, there's something on this course for you. We believe in serious sports competition, but we believe that competition can be a world of fun along the way too.

HALF MARATHON DATE and TIME
The WALT DISNEY WORLD® Half Marathon will start at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2005. The course will take runners through EPCOT® and the MAGIC KINGDOM® Park, to a magical finish.

REGISTRATION OPENS JANUARY 12, 2004!

I REALLY want to do this. I am in such TERRIBLE shape and just cannot imagine being ready for this in a year! I think that I am going to register and take the chance. If I'm not ready then I will just do the 5K. But if I am ready then at least I'm registered.

I'm with you Jody!!!!

I fell off the wagon big time both with food and exercise, but I want to do this so badly. For me, I want to run the 1/2, but walking it is more reasonable. It appears you don't have to specify run or walk, just whole or half marathon.

I am going to register, registering is more important to me than the thought of possible losing the $80.

I think the idea of registering now is a great idea! A year is a long time to get ready for the marathon and even if you don't want to run the whole thing, you can go at a decent pace and be done. The marathon does not ever make you specify if you are going to walking or running, you can do what you want.

If you choose to particpate in some local running events in your area and you find that you have a better finish than the expected time for the last group, you can always present your certificate and get put in a different starting corral.

I don't plan to run the whole 13.1 miles next Sunday--I do plan on using my current run/walk method (run for about 8-9 minutes, walk for 1-2) and I know I will finish ahead of the necessary time.

For those who don't know me, since I don't post here often (but should), I never walked a mile until October 2002. At that point in time I joined a gym and wanted to participate in the marathon. I made it a point to get the gym at least 3-4 times per week to walk, then eventually run, on the treadmill.

Over the past year I have been very sick with 2 completely different illnesses (one was related to a kidney problem from my Atkins attempt, the other is a rare digestive disease that I am still battling along with new multiple food allergies), plus other setback-like falling down an entire flight of stairs in my house recently.

I STILL plan on participating since it will be the culmination of the dream that I set out to accomplish. Will I be the fastest in my age group--no way....will I have fun...absolutely! I think that if you guys are serious about doing it you can absolutely achieve the goal.

There are lots of great training programs out there on the web: check our runningworld.com, halhigdon.com and many others. The "real" 1/2 marathon training doesn't truly begin until 12 weeks prior to race day for most training schedules.

But, you can start out training to participate in a local 5K and go from there. No one said you can't walk slow, walk fast or even slow jog your way thru the race....as long as you can keep up a 16 minute mile (4 MPH) you will do ok.

I wish everyone the best of luck and will report back with as much info as I can about the 1/2 marathon. I'll be there until the 18th so expect my report on the 19th or 20th.

Good luck & Happy Registering!

I REALLY like that!

DH and I leave in just one short week to run this year's 1/2 marathon. It will be our 2nd ever (first one this past October). A year and a half ago, I only would run to the refridgerator or the bathroom....but now a 6 mile run is what we consider a SHORT, EASY workout! :p I'm addicted! While I'll never place first, I figure I am a WINNER anyway, because I am out there DOING IT!

YOU CAN DO IT! I know you can (and once you pay that non-refundable entry fee your resolve will only get stronger ;) ) What a great gift to give yourself - the gift of good health & fitness!

I had signed up for this some time ago with DH, but for some reason I am not on the list. Can I resign up?

I'm not clear here- signed up for the 2005 marathon? That registration hasn't started yet.....it opens Monday 1/12/04....

If you mean the 2004 marathon next weekend? I know they are saying it's full - but if you have proof of payment/sign-up, I'd think they would make some type of accomodations.....

Maybe TeresaNJ means that she signed up with the WishWalkers but doesn't see her name on the list? I would check the OP of the thread to add your names and then be sure you register for the event ASAP after it opens on the 12th. Good luck!

Sorry I wasn't more clear. Karen is right, I signed up in the beginning for the Wish Walkers participating in the Disney 1/2 marathon for 2005, and I don't see myself or DH on the list in the OP's first post, but I am on the list on her link to her website, but DH is not. I did send her an email.:D

Yep, DH and I had a talk last night about my desire to compete in the Half Marathon and it is a GO!! He is concerned about me going alone (it is the absolute worst time of the year at work so he will not be able to join me. The kids certainly can't come along since they are too young to be left alone while I walk). I told him I won't be alone.... I will have WISHers there!!

So add me to the list of excited/nervous WISHers looking to register early! :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc :bounce: :Pinkbounc
