I'm back home after spending the weekend in Raleigh and now all I want to do is collapse into bed! I'm finally getting over this virus nastiness that we all had (and getting over a very disappointing NCSU loss yesterday *sniff, sniff* ) and am still in the weak-as-water phase. It's already almost 5pm but I need to get onto the treadmill. I might have to skip my long distance this weekend. I don't know if I've got 7-8 miles in me.

It's only 3 weeks until my first HM. 21 days from now and I will probably be lying in the sand gasping for air. :lmao: Hopefully it'll be at some point PAST the finish line. I have GOT to get better this week so I can catch up!

Meredith, remind me, which HM are you doing?

LJ, congrats on your 10K!!

Welcome, Tandy! I am super duper slow compared to you.

I am finally back, I guess. Between vacations and work trips, I feel like I have spent maybe 10 days at home since July 28th, and am completely behind.

I haven't kept up nearly enough with running, and am committing this week to start seriously training again, in preparation for OBX half on Nov 14th.

I did at least get some distance in, with a 10.5 miler yesterday, and a 12 miler 2 weeks ago, but have been neglecting mid-week runs and cross-training, and eating like complete crap.

So far, with rest, compression sleeves and taping my left shin, I am completely pain-free. I am going to continue to compression sleeve for short runs, and tape + sleeve for long.

I have also decided that 2011 will be the year to train for a full. I am targeting the OBX full in November, which should give me plenty of time to prepare.

I'm doing the Myrtle Beach Mini on Oct 24th. My friend and I decided to sign up for the 5K on Saturday in addition to the Half on Sunday. I'm probably shooting myself in the foot. But oh well. At least I know I'll finish the 5K. :lmao:

I thought about you Raleigh area girls yesterday! We hung around Wm B Umstead state park for a few hours yesterday morning while we were waiting to meet for the game. That would definitely be a nice plan to run around! Quiet, shady, with bathrooms and water fountains galore! The kids and I did about a mile and a half or so of hiking just to see what was close to the car. It was fun! Too bad we had to carry the 2 year old. That made it a little more challenging. :lmao:

After fighing off a flu all week I had the 10K today. I finished in 1:15:11. I had a pace of 12:06. This was my first race.

Congrats on your 1st 10K!!Especially since you were sick this week.

Sorry your sick! Hope you feel better soon. And don't worry about doing the 5k the day before the 1/2. I do that when I do the DL 1/2. Just take it nice and easy, stretch well afterwards and if you have one, a dip in the pool and you'll be great.

I had my first 10K today - time of 1:17:19!!

Congrats your first 10K too! Great time too!!

Did the RNR San Jose this morning, I've come to the conclusion it's the red-headed step child of the RNR Series. The expo was small, not very many vendors. Course was okay, a lot of slanty roads, but it's over by work, so I see the scenery almost everyday. It was nice to sleep in my own bed, have everything I need at my hands, and not have to get up that early- race didn't start until 8. Weather was great though, morning fog until about mile 10 or so. Don't know official time yet, somewhere in the low 2:40s. Wasn't pushing too hard b/c of the race in 2 weeks. It was more of a mini strategizing race shortening the full into the 1/2 so we'll see how it goes.

Hope everyone has a good rest of the week!

Leigh- I forgot to tell you. Yesterday, I watched the crazy ending to the LSu game. I was setting up halloween stuff and the game was on in the living room. I wasn't really paying attention and then I heard the announcers going crazy at the end of teh game and I stopped to watch and then watched the last down they had. Why they are ranked 12, I have no idea. Sorry about your game, I was really hoping Florida would pull it off. Now, we have the big game in the evil swamp!

Kim ~ great job on the RNR! A couple of my twitter friends (actually the ones responsible for talking me into doing the WDW Half (and ultimately the Coast to Coast)) did that one today as well.

And thanks! I was pretty happy with it. If my knee hadn't gotten tight, I feel like I could have been a minute or two faster, but I didn't run much the last mile because I didn't want to do serious damage to my knee. Should I submit my time to Disney even though predictors have me at 5 minutes above a 2:45 finish?

I had my longest run this am, 5 miles and I did it :cool1: I was so happy to be able to run the whole 5 as I have never be able to run this far. My DH ran with me and was so impressed that I could do it. He will now be doing my long runs on Sunday's with me which I am thrilled about. I'm even more happy that this week I finally found a pace/stride that works for me and my breathing. Up until my run Thursday when I ran I would have trouble breathing but when I went on Thursday my pace and the way I ran just worked so much better for me (I started chi running). I feel more confident than ever that I will be able to run the whole half which is such a great feeling.

Hi Tandy, my name is Carmel and I'm also a SAHM and mother of a 10yr old boy, I also have a 7yr old daughter. Welcome and that is awesome timing. I was never a runner til now but my biggest motivator is running in WDW.
I'm only doing the half, don't think I could ever get the guts to do a Goofy. Sounds like you will do awesome! I'm glad you are joing us here!!

ljcrochet - congrats on your first race. That's rough coming off the flu but you did great.

Congrats on the half! I totally know what you mean about it being a practice for the full.

I think all of the RnRs are sort of like that. I did Chicago and I felt the expo was rather small as well.

VerticalChaos - definitely submit your time. If you don't submit any time at all you get an arbitrary corral, usually toward the back. I would put your time as 2:40 and submit your race as proof. Nowhere in that registration does it say you have to have the exact time you are estimating, just proof you think you can do it. :)

I did manage to get in 8.5 miles before everyone got back home from church. So, I'm glad about that! Now I need a shower and bed....so real life can start back tomorrow. That's a shame. ;)

Thanks! I did submit it! :) I said that based on that time and the fact that I only really trained for the 10K for 2 weeks, I felt confident I would reach at least 2:45 by Marathon weekend. We shall see! (I didn't include my knee tightening up because I really think that's a result of the 2 weeks prep time for the 10K and didn't want anyone to see me as a liability - but honestly, had it not tightened up, I feel like I could have broken 1:15.)

ljcrochet: Good job on the 10k. That's a really decent
pace for your first race!:thumbsup2

Meredith: Sand sounds good right now! Myrtle Beach would be a very fun place to run a race. I bet you can handle the back to backs with no problem. Good job on that long run!:thumbsup2

Kat: I'm learning how important those mid-week runs really are. Hopefully,
you can get back on track now. Just stay injury and pain free!:)

Vertical Chaos: Great job on your 10k! Yes, always submit a proof of time if you can.

Kim: Smart idea to just use the race for training. You definitely don't want
to push yourself that close to your race. I had to laugh at your use of the red-headed stepchild. My beautiful child is a redhead, so I get it.;)

Carmel: Yah to 5 miles! Yes, running at DW is a great motivator, isn't
it? It's nice that your husband runs with you. Mine runs the other way
when he sees the shoes come out!

I got a 12 miler in Sunday in an awesome time. I'm feeling pretty good about my training right now. I'm running 2 back to backs per week and having no problems on day 2, so Goofy is doable, I hope. I've still got 3 months to be ready. I'm just trying to stay injury free right now with lots of stretching post run. I have achilles problems and had a hamstring injury earlier this year, so don't want to be sidelined.

Just back from the Wine and Dine Half...wish I had more time in WDW (a week is never enough haha) I loved doing my first half at disney and I hope for more! there were a few kinks that hopefully will be worked out next year

If you do another race between now and January with a faster time, you could always email the new time to them as well or print out your race results and bring that to the expo and they can adjust your corral that way. They just put a sticker with your new corral over your old one.

Ok, here's another submit proof question...

I emailed them my time and said based on that I was estimating my Half time to be 2:45. The results weren't on the website yet, but they are now. Should i send them another email with the link to the results?

Verticalchaos: I don't know if it'll make that much difference, but why not? If my calculations are correct, your 10k time would put you finishing the half in 2:43, correct?

Somewhere close to that. I think the predictor I plugged it into said 2:50, but that was with only a couple of weeks training to bump from 5K to 10K, so with 14 weeks I imagine I'll bump it even more.

Yes, it sounds like you will. I think you've got plenty of time to get some real training in for the half!:thumbsup2

Hello everyone!! Hope everyone had a great weekend.. :) Sorry I have been MIA, but with back to school and all the activities that come with it I don't know if I am coming or going!!! :lmao:

I have been fighting this dang head cold for the past week and I am about tired of it!!! I feel like my head is going to explode!

Ran the Komen race for the cure 5K this weekend and boy what a humbling experience that way. To stand at the finish line and cheer on all the cancer survivors was an experience for sure! :)

Now its time to kick it into gear with training for the 1/2.. I am still trying to figure out with training plan I am going to use.. Hal Higdon has me only running up to 10 miles, but running more during the week and for more miles... Galloway has me running up to 14 miles.. but only running 30 minutes 2X a week (no set miles)... I am still trying to figure out which one will work best for me..

I finished my 8K in record time. 1:00:55. I have no idea where it came from but I'm so pleased with myself. I needed the win. I stressed over it all week, probably since it was a "race" and not me against myself. I wasn't last either, there was 7 people behind me!
Awesome time and great job!!!:thumbsup2

I leave THurs am for WIne/DIne Run...my first 1/2...)

You'll have to let us know how it went!!

Hi All! Well today was my follow up with the ortho for the results of my MRI and it showed.... nothing. But he, once he felt of my knee and heard my symptoms again, he said it was definately plica, which, as he described it, was like the appendix of your knee. lol. Everyone has it but some people have to evetually have it out. But the good news is, that it doesn't have to come out right now! He acutally said that unless I was in severe pain he recommended waiting- which was a big difference from what his PA had said and a relief to me! He also oked me to continue to continue to train for the half! He said I would eventually reach a level of pain that I couldn't train through and then I would know my limit but until then there was nothing to stop me! I am far from ready for the Princess but intend to continue to train until I find that limit and hope I am able to reach my goal!!!

Thank goodness you don't need surgery... hope it holds out for you.

I'm falling apart! Still fighting this ear/sinus infection, and then pulled a muscle in my back.. and in the middle of it managed to get through my first 15K Saturday. Finished in 1:58, which was pleasing to me. However, during the post race activities my stomach would cramp up whenever I ate anything.. Only lasted for a few hours and then I was fine, but it makes me a bit nervous for wine and dine this weekend.. I've never had tummy troubles before with running, so hopefully it was just a fluke.. or those tacos we had at 2am.. Anywho, safe travels to all those heading this way for the race this weekend!

I hear you on the ear/sinus thing.. BOY am I tired of it.. I've had it now for about a week! Good job with the 15K!! :thumbsup2 You'll have to tell us how the wine and dine went.

Leigh!! What a great run! Glad it was a good race for you!! Good luck this weekend against Bama, hope you guys win!
On my side, was set on Saturday night for the 20 the next morning. Then I woke up and had a huge panic attack. Never had one before, I couldn't breath, my stomach was tight, my hands were shaking, it was crazy. I kept thinking there was no way that I could run 20. Then Monday/Tuesday came around and we crazy heat and that made me heat stroky. So this morning came around, and I got up at 3:15 to go and I did it!! Walked way more than I wanted to, but that's okay b/c I got the mileage in. I was so happy, I never in a million years thought I could do it, but I did. Run wise, it wasn't good, it was still warm, and I didn't have good legs. If I didn't have to get that run in, I would have turned around after 3. I was still debating whether to keep going but cut it short at 18, but I kept going. My feet were absolutely killing me. They were rubbing against the bottom of my socks and were/are so agitated then and now. So next long run, have to glide them. Long run wise, no more than 13 this weekend, and maybe middle/end of next week and then really drop down before the race. I feel a little bit more comfortable with the distance. I'm sure race day, nerves and adrenalin will kick in and I'll be fine. Tomorrow is a nice easy 1-2 miler with the pups at the park, just to get the lactic acid out of my legs.

Anyways, hope everyone has a good rest of the week and weekend!
3:15 in the morning! Are you mad!!!! :rotfl2::rotfl2: But WTG!! Glad you were able to get out the door and do it.. its all a mind game and you rocked it! :thumbsup2

OMG! seriously! your game was awesome!!! what an ending!! I was rooting for you all the way.. (only so we can beat you this weekend..;) it looks better that you are undefeated).
AND can you say OUCH with our game! :headache::headache::headache: seriously! what team was that.. I think Florida State stole our uniforms and showed up to play.. :sad2::sad2: that was miserable! :sad2::sad2:

can't wait to hear how it went.. how weird was it to start running at 10pm??? I would be dead tired by then! :rotfl:

Hope everyone has a great week!!!!

:cutie:I ran SLOW, it was hard to get around the crowds that were strictly speed walking with little to no running, and then I stopped to take some pictures with characters. I think if I did it again I would just run and enjoy without trying to carry a camera with me (I had a waist pack but it was such a pain). I loved it...I think i expected a little better from disney...but it was fun and I honestly didnt feel tired at all (I napped right beforehand) and I had been down at WDW going strong all week at the parks prior. I really enjoyed running at night a lot better than early in the morning :goodvibes
