Please come out and tell us a little about yourselves. This is a great place to share (ups and downs).

So, please say HI :) The first post is always the most difficult.

Not exactly a lurker here, but I must say things are a bit quiet today. Where is everyone? I said I would only post once today, but I think I've chimed in on more than one post. What happened? I'll bet I'm not the only one who "Doesn't want to talk about it", regarding the past weekend. Which is why we should. Good and bad. Good to inspire, bad to let go. I learned something this weekend. I learned that I cannot handle salt! It is my enemy. It is what causes me to gain, and discourages me. However, learning is good, and now I know that if I have a salty day, I'll be back to normal in about a week, if I keep my resolve. I also learned that a Carbolite bar may be just what the Dr. ordered after I've had a salty day. Salt, though stored in massive quantities in tissue, seems to be absent in the place I need it most. I'd risk a day in the loo to help with the secondary salt problem.:p
So? What's your story people? Get it out there, so we can get on with the business of healthy living. No matter what your clippie says, health starts from the inside out. Don't keep all the garbage inside. If you have an outpouring of goodness, please share it with us. We can all benefit from each others success! OK, I'm off the pedestal. Who's next?

Keep the Faith!
Tracy

I just mosied into chat tonight and found out about WISH. Great idea!
Where do I start, and who can direct me to good info on Atkins?

I'm glad you found us Luv2Roam! Chat was fun last night --- I'm glad you enjoyed it. There are many low carbers here. Check out the low carb recipe's at the top of this board - or just click HERE .

Grab an 'official' WISH clipart to show that you have made the first step to a healthier YOU. WISH = WE are INSPIRED to STAY HEALTHY!. Instructions to add the clippie can be found HERE .

This is a Link to a great webpage entitled A Beginners Guide to LowCarbing - I think you will find it to be helpful!

My first week was HORRIBLE on low carb. I was a true sugar/starch addict and had awful withdrawal symptoms. If you feel lethargic, flulike, with headache -- please stick it out the first week -- as you will likely feel better than EVER after that.
:D

Luv2Roam! It was wonderful seeing you in WISH chat last night. I'm really glad you decided to join us here on WISH.

We have a wonderful support group, lot's of really good low carb recipes and bunches of fun. Grab your clipart and join right in.

I'm on Atkins too, I've had wonderful results and enjoy this way of eating.

Jody is right, you may experience some withdrawal and feel pretty bad until you get over your carbohydrate addiction. Hang in there and don't give up and you will feel better after the withdrawal than you have felt in a long, long time. You will have more energy, too.

I'm not a lurker, Kels, but I see we drew one out from hiding last night. Luvinit is with us now, isn't that great?

I guess I'm considered a lurker since I don't do the clipart thing. My connection goes tons faster if I don't have the signitures etc. on.

But I've been reading, posting, and enjoying the support you show each other. I started April 1st. The first 5 pounds was easy, but I seem to have hit an early plateau. I know I'll get there though!

I'm in the process of de-lurking.

I'm 23 (soon to be 24....June 19th....favorite color is red....taking notes? :) ), and I live in Buffalo, NY. I've got a 2 year old Boston Terrier named Lucy to whom I have a ridiculous attachment! I pay the bills by serving as music director for a local catholic church. My ultimate career goal is to be a recording artist. I've been playing piano for 17 years now, and have been singing even longer than that. I was a french/spanish dual major in college, but discovered that although music isn't nearly as lucrative a career choice as international business, it was what I loved and had to do.

As for my weight loss, I'm on Weight Watchers, and have been since March 6th of 2002. I've lost 138 pounds total, 18 of which have been in conjunction with WISH. I've gone from a 54 waist to a 34/36 waist. I have 5.4 more pounds to Weight Watchers goal (so I don't have to pay anymore), and 25.4 until I hit my personal goal.

I guess the first post IS always the hardest. That was pretty easy!! :)

I'm lurking..........;)

Hi Nancy!

Shame on YOU -- no more lurking! You are out of the closet now!;) . This is a wonderful support group --- and it would be great to have you as part of it.

Are you here to lose weight -- or just give those of us support that need it?

Welcome!
:D

Hi there. I’ve been lurking here lately. I lost about 25 lbs. on Somersize a couple of years ago and have been maintaining ever since. I’d like to lose ten more pounds, but it seems impossible! So I’ve been looking for ideas on how to lose those stubborn last pounds, and also getting ideas for maintaining a low carb lifestyle. There are some things I like about Somersizing (all the fruit and vegetables you want) and some things I like about Atkins (you can eat nuts, no food combining restrictions, and lots of prepackaged products to choose from). So I’m just following the parts I like from each and we’ll see if I can maintain that way. I really like the support, inspiration and ideas here, but I’m not sure whether being here is a good thing for me, since it seems to make me focus too much on food! I find myself making cheesecake and buying SF/LC treats and looking forward to trying new recipes, which is not good since I don’t have a lot of self control.

Hi Pugsley!
You've come to the right place to get the support you need! I am doing low carb --- but found myself eating way too many 'legal snacks' and it was getting away from me. I'm following Alex's challenge this week -- and it has opened my eyes to all of the legal low carb junk that I was eating. After a week or two I'll try to slowing add in a few things -- but try to limit the treats. I'm finding that by keeping it simple -- I'm not focussing on the food too much.

Good luck with your plan! Sounds like you've created a doable one!
:D

disykat Why don't you go to your user cp and edit options. Go to thread view options and check "no" where it says "Show user's signatures in their posts?".

Now go add the WISH member clipart so the rest of us can see it :) I love being able to recognize other WISHers on other boards, it's fun and it makes me feel like I'm always among friends :)

Dan you are my hero. I hope you know that. I hope you will post more and more on WISH. You inspire me and motivate me and besides that you make me smile. So get to posting, kiddo. Don't make me have to come over there, I'm bigger than you now ;)

Meriweather Nancy! You lurk??? I'm hurt and after we met at DISCON and everything? ;) Just teasing you.

Oh, come out of hiding and join us. We don't bite, you know. Oh, okay, we don't bite hard?

Hi Puglsey, hmmm, perhaps we need a code to add to the subject lines for posts about food or perhaps we should all just say FOOD in addition to the subject line. Then you could avoid the posts about food and delurk.

How about it? Won't you visit us more often? You would be a help and inspiration to us all. You have lost weight and kept it off. That is awesome.

Okay, shall I add anyone to our official list of WISHers? Anyone taking the challenge?

Well, you are all very motivating. :teeth:
I'm getting inspired ;)

Oh...I NEED to lose weight!!
I 'm just not good at it. I love to cook, bake and eat!!

 Hi Katholyn! I so enjoyed meeting you!! I'm thrilled with your progress!! Congrats.

I'm reading........I did get the WATP tapes. I like them a lot!
I'll be in and out ;)

Thanks for the welcome, wovenwonder & nativetxn. I’m going to stick around – I really do enjoy reading about everyone’s successes and challenges. And I do like to hear about new recipes. I’ll just have to learn to read about food without wanting to eat it all. wovenwonder, yes, it’s those evil “legal snacks” that get me down! I think just the sweet taste sets me off, even if it’s not really sugar. But it IS nice to have something sweet to turn to in emergency situations (like Easter!). I won’t be joining any challenges here because I don’t think these ten pounds are EVER coming off unless I starve myself, and that’s not going to happen! I guess I’m just not meant to be skinny. I’ll be happy if I can just get through life at a healthy weight and without the need to constantly obsess about food. I do feel wonderful about having kept the weight off – I feel like I have some control for the first time. And it’s all thanks to low carb eating, since that’s something I can live with. I’ve been inspired by the people here to get more exercise, and I’ve started walking to work and doing Pilates. Thanks everyone!

Ok... here I am...

I've been inspired by all the WISH clippies... and I have to say for the first time, I have been upset by gaining weight.

I got a physical for my new job, and I SWORE UP and DOWN that that doctors scale was broken. (Evil doctor scale!) I was actually shocked that I had gained that much.. even more than I was 9 MONTHS PREGNANT !

I used to be a fitness/gymnastics instructor, but haven't had that job or working out in a long time. I do walk a lot in my job, and have been drinking water.

I'll be blunt.. I'm 5 8 and about 170. Yes, I hear, but you are tall.. and bigger boned... but to me its still overweight. I would love to see 140/130... but right now 150 is good.

So, after my initial shock, I've been drinking water, eating less. I got a hold of some WW point values, and really watching it well.

I've got a point list, counting out points and doing water. Being away from home and working is good, if I'm in the house, I eat...

So is it too late for the Challenge? I've even convinced my DH to try as well...

I'm so glad you are here Cindy! Grab a clipart -- you will find instructions HERE! Will your hubby be joining us on the boards too? It will be great for you to have the support system with him.

Have you ever seen Dotties Weight Loss Zone website? It is packed full of info for those on Weight Watchers! You can find it right HERE. :D

Vija has a weight watchers challenge going right now. I'm sure she would love for you to join in!

Welcome.
:D

Meriweather Okay, Nancy, I suppose I could put you down as a quasi lurker ;)

If you decide you want to join us. We'll be waiting for you right here with open hearts and lots of motivation and support for you. You don't have to go on a weight loss program to be part of WISH, you know. WISH=We're Inspired to Stay Healthy. Not being overweight is just one part of staying healthy. I think if you visit you will see that we have lots of fun here and a wonderful group of caring people.

Visit us whenever you can.

Pugsley You don't have to take the challenge to be part of WISH. I just like to see the WISH clipart in everyone's signatures on other boards. It makes me feel like I'm among friends :)

It sounds like you have made some amazing progress already--lost weight and kept it off. Very impressive. I'm glad you will be visiting WISH occasionally. You are a good example for me to follow :) You can help me learn how to keep the weight I've lost completely lost.

Cindy B I'm so glad to see you here on WISH. It doesn't matter how much weight you want to lose you-are a great addition to my support group. It's never too late to take the challenge. Welcome.

Good for you, taking control of your weight now before it increases more.

Are you taking the challenge, then? May I add you to the official list of WISHers? I hope so. I think you would be a great addition to our support group. Please visit us often?

Katholyn

Well I'm not lurking anymore, but to tell you a bit about myself...

I'm almost 45. I have 3 girls (10, 13, almost 15) Married and like Dan I am from the Buffalo area...Kenmore actually...just north of the city. I work in a grocery store as a store trainer, I've been with them for 12 years and most days I love my job.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I have gained almost 150 pounds in 18 years of marriage.

Turning 45 and seeing woman my age at work become grandmas made me realize (plus some bad health issues) that I want to be around to see my girls walk down the aisle...I want to hold their babies in my arms...and if I don't do something now I won't be around to see that happen. So as the old saying goes...today is the first day of the rest of your life!

So, I'm going to try very hard to get rid of half of me...I am determined to do it this time...not just for me, but so I'm around for my family!
