Wish DVC Member's Cruise Sold Out

I saw someone smarter than me booked their cruise using points for the 3rd or 4th stateroom guest to save points and paid cash for the 1st and 2nd. I wouldn't have thought of that.
We didn't book this cruise at all, but I'll keep that in mind for future cruises if they require a point booking.

The person booking has to be a DVC member, but does the 3rd and 4th guest that the points were used for in that scenario have to be ?

Not sure since I didn't do it. IT was someone on the DCL Fan Facebook page, so part of this community. Maybe they'll see it and can answer.
I'm guessing no only because you don't have to be a DVC member to use points in other scenarios (or have a DVC member on the reservation). But this cruise had unique requirements.

You know how they have the "I'm Celebrating" buttons (eg birthday, whatever... they have fill in the blank ones so you can write in what you are celebrating) at WDW ? DCL has them too. :-) Though I don't remember if the one I used on the ship came from our short WDW resort stay before the cruise or from DCL.

Good luck with your current paper and with whatever else is required to finish ! The light at the end is indeed brighter !

I don't know if I am fortunate or not that my department required a traditional dissertation. OTOH, the final thing was 141 pages ! Near the end I was very much embracing the wise words of one of my committee members: "it only needs to be good enough to pass" :-)

And I have to say, planning for a Disney cruise was a nice way to take a much needed break from research and writing from time to time !! Helps keep the sanity during doctoral work !

I too use my break time to check these boards and see what's going on with the real world of WDW/DCL. I'm thinking engineering is using the peer-reviewed published papers as " ... if it's good enough to be published ..." standard. I like your committee member's comment. I will remember that and hopefully, my advisor has the same philosophy. Thanks, and I'll look into the "I'm Celebrating" button at WDW and DCL.

To follow-up, there only had to be one DVC member in the room and, apparently since they used points on person #3, they either didn't have to be #1 on the reservation or points could be used on a non-member. Either way, that's helpful to know if you only want to use the minimum points to be eligible.

OT, but I am very proud of the fact that in the 25 years since I finished my doctorate, two people have checked it out from my university library. Not necessarily read it, but did check it out!

Really! I've only searched online for dissertation publications.

I don’t know if they still do it, but my university used to bind all the dissertations and they were in the main library. The university has not scanned all of these so that you can find them online. Checkouts at the University library work different than they used to, but the last time I looked there were two check out date stamps in my “book”.

2 things about this cruise:

  1. I can confirm that points do not have to be used on any particular person in the stateroom for this cruise. We used points for the third guest and paid cash for all 4 others to minimize the points used.
  2. It seems that a decent amount of people tried to use resale points to book this cruise, and so some staterooms are opening up as they find out that they're ineligible. So if anyone's looking to book this one, it might be worth taking another look!

I guess this is another separation between people who bought directly from Disney and people who bought resale.

I used the bare minimum of points for my 12 yr old 5th person in the today to pay for the DVC required points and paid cash for the other 4 of us. It’s not to late to do this if you haven’t paid yet with MS. They didn’t do payments yesterday and they said it was a 72 hr window.

It is very unfortunate that the CMs who were booking couldn’t differentiate points.

my friend was the third person...she’s the one who used points. I sleep with my sister on the bed. We think it’s fair that she pays less. That’s a significant savings!

We have not gotten call back to pay. I tried to pay without the call back yesterday and was told I could not. Should I be concerned about not hearing from them yet??

I haven't heard anything and it definitely makes me nervous!

I’m floored they did not confirm points eligibility at the time of booking! Surely that is something they have to confirm all the time for disney cruise sailings booked with points.

As understaffed as these groups are, I bet they took information same as a a credit card and someone else processed later.

When should we worry about not getting our calls yet? I'd hate to see my cabin go to someone else because I didn't get a call back fast enough.

Today they called our cabin mate, and she didn’t hear it. At least twice during our booking call my number was confirmed to be the called number. :upsidedow

We will be calling MS tonight.

We are on hold for nearly an hour so far.
