WISH Away the Pounds June Challenge -- Starting a Successful Summer!

Morning all and HAPPY Wednesday! SUMMER is here! The weather has been nice, warm, but not unbearable and the school year has officially ended! So of course I am out of my "normal" routine and haven't found the time to post here at all! Time to get into the summer routine now!

:woohoo: for the arrival of summer! :beach:

Hi, friends!

My woo-hoo for today is that I actually got up and ran. The alarm went off, and I was really not feeling it. It was already really warm and muggy, even at 6:15. I got into the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and almost went back to bed. I somehow talked myself into getting my running clothes on, at which point I figured I might as well go. It wasn't pretty - my pace was fine, but I just didn't feel great throughout. Some runs are just like that - fortunately, they're not often, or I'd never keep doing this! I got through the whole 3.1 I'd planned for today, stretched out, and felt much better after a shower. I'm really glad I went, as it kept me on my activity plan for this week, but I'm still not sure I wouldn't have been better off staying in bed that extra bit of time! :)

:woohoo: for getting out and running when you didn't want to, Liz! And a double :woohoo: for Aulani coming up! :beach: Can't wait to hear all about it! :cool2:

Hmmmm....My woo hoo is finishing that crazy half in a decent time! And, I'll add in that my first planned run for my half in October is going to be tomorrow.

Your great half time is an awesome :woohoo: Jill! :thumbsup2 And man, you don't even get a full week off before you are training for the next race -- you go girl! :cheer2:

Good morning! I'm Jill and I'll be your coach for the rest of June :eek: Is it June 26th already?!?!

In honor of the dreary looking morning here in western PA, what do you do for an instant mood enhancer, that's not food/exercise related, when you've got the blahs?

I'll be back later to check in. Have a great morning!

Jill

I can get an instant mood boost by listening to music. :music: I can listen to music on my iPhone or at work I will stream Disney music. d-cot.com is a great place to listen to all sorts of music from the parks on demand. Who can feel blah when you are listening to World of Color?!?

:thanks: for coaching us through the end of the challenge, Jill!

My eating has been up and down lately. Last weekend I served in a wedding and though I didn't gain much (maybe a lb or 2) my motivation took a hit. Hoping to make healthy choices this weekend. Really craving chicken kabobs on the grill.

It's tough to stay on plan when you have a sick kiddo for sure, Desiree. :flower3: Hopefully your motivation will be back before you know it. Chicken kabobs on the grill sound delicious and healthy! :thumbsup2

Good luck to everyone on their weigh in tomorrow! :yay:

I CLEAN!! Nothing boosts me so much as looking around a nice clean decluttered room (or two)!! I don't love cleaning, but I do like organizing and I love a clean house!! I feel so much more RELAXED!

***********************

Sorry I didn't pop on again last night... I had a movie night with DS and then we lost power just a few minutes after the movie ended. Power didn't come back until nearly 7 am and then, of course, the computer had trouble reconnecting to the internet. And I had a few small errands to run.... but here I am!

I'm juicing for a few days here to try and get off those pesky two pounds of birthday weight, but by dinner time last night I was so incredibly, crazy, "hands shaking" hungry, that I had to eat a real meal. I tried to stick with the clean eating I had started earlier in the day with the juices and had a veggie burger on a flaxseed roll. Juicing again today, but not sure if I will continue into tomorrow.... it is just to hard to not be STARVING!

Off to catch up on a few emails and bills to pay before helping DS finish cleaning his room!!...............P

I had the issue of the "blahs" the last couple of days. A while back, I got a new phone and instead of moving ALL my music over, I moved just the Christian music. I find when I listen to just Christian music, my mood is so much better. I have been listening to all kinds of music again lately while in the car and realized yesterday that I needed a dose of "happy music" so I put my headphones on and cranked up my Christian music while at work. I was dancing in my chair and it made my day so much better. Want a dose of feel good Christian music to get you going. Check out Mandisa, "Good Morning" That one always makes me happy and makes me want to move.

Desiree, I completely agree with you! I actually posted a youtube link for "Good Morning" in last month's WATP thread. "Overcomer" is my other Mandisa favorite. Yep, I've got K-Love playing in my earbuds right now and I will get more work done this afternoon because of it.

I'm baaaaaaccccckkkk!!!

OMG how I have missed y'all!! Things have been so crazy around here, it's not funny. We finally got out of school last week, I now have 2 graduates. DS17 got a job but no car yet so I'm driving him everywhere. DS12 had basketball camp this week and we have been spending most of our free days at the RV. Starting next week we are free free free, so I hope to have more time to post, and run, and eat better. LOL

So I'm hopping back on the wagon for July!!

Okay friends.... another day of having to end the juicing at dinner time. Clearly I need to rethink this. I did 4 days of juicing a few weeks ago and it was nearly torture and not worth it. Being very, very hungry is miserable. I managed to get through most of the day with just my juices, but decided I would be miserable tonight without food. I think I didn't do my "ramp up" phase enough before starting this juicing again. You really DO need to prepare yourself (mentally and physically) for a few days of this. Plus I was trying to really watch the fruit sugars and my juices were just not terribly appealing.:rolleyes:

Anyhow, ate a reasonably clean dinner tonight (egg whites, onions, spinach, and just a tiny bit of feta cheese for some saltiness, plus a bowl of watermelon) and lots of water, so I still feel like I'm staying on track pretty well.

Off to finish helping DS sort through the clutter that we removed from his room. He got his new desk in place, moved the bed to its new spot, took out the bookcase.... and now we need to sort through EVERYTHING and decide what to toss, sell, pack away, and put back! I think we got through 2 of the smaller bins and one laundry basket.... two large bins left to go!

TTYL.......................P

This is a great way to ward off the blahs! Thanks for the suggestion as well.

On another note, day before yesterday hubby said "let's get pizza" and of course, I had no will power that day so I had pizza but, instead of 4-5 slices and a ton of crazy bread, I had 2 pieces of crazy bread and shared half of each with the baby and only 2 slices of pizza.

For having pizza in front of you, you made a pretty good decision by not overeating!

I NEED to start planning meals better. Money is tight though and the option of going buy the kind of food I need (healthier choices) isn't much of an option right now.

Do you have any farmer's markets or discount type grocery stores (we have Aldi's and Save A Lot)? They usually have better prices on produce.

I haven't been able to get in the pool lately because the baby had surgery and was just cleared Tuesday to go in the water. Hoping the weather clears up here so that we can get in and I can get some kind of exercise in. Can't wait to see how he likes/doesn't like the pool.

Awww...hope the little one is all healed up and enjoys some pool time with mama!

My eating has been up and down lately. Last weekend I served in a wedding and though I didn't gain much (maybe a lb or 2) my motivation took a hit. Hoping to make healthy choices this weekend. Really craving chicken kabobs on the grill.

Music seems to be a great way to handle the blahs. And, Disney music is a sure picker-upper!

:thanks: for coaching us through the end of the challenge, Jill!

You're welcome!

I can't believe it's almost weigh in day! Good luck to you as well!

Neat and organized is definitely a stress reducer!

There was a thread here on the WISH forums within the last couple days about someone who is doing juicing. They are following a book with recipes. Did you see that thread? I wonder if they have some recipes that are more filling so you aren't as hungry. It's definitely NO FUN being hungry!

Welcome back! I'm sure summer won't be any less busy for you and all your mom duties :)

Ahhhh yes, the "we rearranged the room and now need to go through everything" time :rotfl2: I love when we find stuff we forgot all about. Does your DS have that problem?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Is anyone following Team USA in the World Cup? I am totally addicted! I'm so excited that they are moving on!
Went for my first run today since February when I got the flu. I felt so good that I could have kept going. I'm going to follow a Jeff Galloway plan for October's race. It's the Rock N Roll Cleveland race. Has anyone ever done a Rock N Roll 1/2?
Last week DH, DS8, and I went to some garage sales. DH and I found mountain bikes at one sale and we bought both of them :) So, tomorrow my mom is going to watch DSs so DH and I can go for a ride. We are going on a bike trail since I haven't ridden a bike in about 20 years!!
I am off to do a load of laundry since DS needs his camp shirt for tomorrow's closing program and I am 100% sure it's not clean :rotfl2: Have a great evening!
Jill
Ooh, me! I did the Rock & Roll 1/2 in DC this past March. I had done Dopey in January and put the R&R 1/2 on my race calendar so I wouldn't just stop running for the rest of the winter. :) I was undertrained due in part to our crazy bad winter, but I took it easy and had a great time. I was really impressed with the race organization. The only weird thing - at the finish line, they weren't giving out bananas. ?! In all the races I've done, I've never not gotten that all-important banana at the end! They had orange segments, totally not the same effect. So if you need that :banana:, check one in your bag or have someone meeting you bring one.
Thanks for the input! I'm glad it was organized and fun. Strange about the bananas, though. Every race I've ever done has also had bananas and I do usually grab one. I better bring some as backup :)
PAMELA~my mistake on the juicing thread. It's a thread about smoothies.
Lost another 3.2 lbs this week which brings my total to 8.2!!!! So happy with that. Can't wait to jump on board next months thread. Definitely don't think I would have stuck with it if I didn't have the support here.
Good Friday morning :woohoo:
QOTD: If you could take a 'fitness' vacation (money no object), where would you go and why?
I'll be back later to chime in (and answer my own QOTD from yesterday since I forgot!).
Jill
Down just a bit - 0.4 - but after last week's big drop, I'll say fair play to the scale on that one. So close to goal - hopefully this weekend will put me over the top!
I got out for a 3.25 mile run this morning - better than Wednesday's! DH got up to run before me, so I definitely felt like I had to get up and go when he got back. Work today, then a busy evening - picking up my race packet for tomorrow's 5K (tons of great swag in this one!), and then dinner out before the kids' swim lessons. Might try to sneak in some Orange is the New Black before I call it a night and get some good sleep before the race in the morning.
Happy Friday, everyone!
I know that you will be happier when you had DS' room all organized -- the real trick will be getting it to stay that way. ;) And how many legos and nerf darts were found? :rolleyes1
I hope that you can find a juicing regimen that works for you and doesn't leave you starving. :flower3:
I would love to do a Jeff Galloway retreat in Europe sometime if money was no object. Here is one they just started last week http://www.jeffgalloway.com/retreats/olympia-greece/
This might be because a year ago we were sailing the Magic in the Med and are feeling very nostalgic. ;)
Liz, sounds like your training partner is a good motivator for sure! :thumbsup2 Ooo, I can wait to hear more about your race and your fabulous swag!
I have a 5k on July 6th and found out we get a medal. :cool2: I have to confess I love these shorter distance races. ::yes::
I was a samer at WW yesterday but I still have hope I will lose a pound between now and the 30th. Keeping my fingers crossed!
Hi! Just coming out of lurkdom to give a plug for the exercise challenge. Some people haven't reported in a while and I know they're here. Please pop over and update so I can change your color! :rainbow:
I think I'll join you guys in July. It's been a while and with summer here I might even post! :rotfl2: I am down, but am afraid to step on the scale tomorrow because it's been a bad, bad week! Afraid I may have ruined all my hard work, but I remember the dis motto and will never give up!
I only got very few weigh ins yesterday - I guess everyone is holding out until Monday for the final one!
But I just updated my list and am going to put it into the first post now.
Very pleased with my own result, I am down more than a pound from last week. I tried to be good this past week, but with work being very stressful, I did not do too well. I guess those two days of walking 100 minutes (including lunch break walking) really helped. But I am finally starting to feel somehow comfortable in my clothes again. Directly after the vacation I really had trouble with that!
I also browsed the WW shop website yesterday and I realised that here in Germany they now offer the fitbit and say it will work with my WW online. Ever since Lisa raved about her device that tells her how much activity points she earns, I wanted to get something like that. The great thing is that this is a real fitbit that will continue to work even if I stop doing WW. But it gives me activity points, not just calories or whatever, so it goes well with my current plan. And WW was selling it 10 € cheaper than the other prices I had seen. So I ordered it and can't wait for it to arrive to motivate me even more to move around more!
I have not heard from Amanda and since no one jumped up on here to say that they want to host the next month, I am considering to do the same as last year and just continue on with hosting for July and just expand the current thread to be a two months thread. The updating of the weights is really not a lot of work. What do you all think?
I think you will enjoy your FitBit, Magdalene. I still have a love/hate relationship with ActiveLink at times because it is brutally honest about how little activity I get if I don't work out and have a day when I am chained to my desk. Or if I don't work out and just do stuff around the house. It is a great tool to help you increase your activity. I think you will like it. :goodvibes:
That would be wonderful if you want to continue hosting July, Magdalene! :flower3: I'll volunteer to take the coaching slot for July 1st through July 5th if you would like. Just let me know.
I managed to lose 2 pounds so made my goal for the month. :yay: I'm very happy because this is the first time in quite awhile I made the goal. Onward and downward. :cool1:
Ahhhhhhhhh!!! I never did make it back here yesterday :( And, I'm out the door for a bike ride with DH while DSs are at the in-laws. So, I'll be back later on :)
QOTD for the weekend of Saturday June 28th and Sunday June 29th:
Other than a Disney park, what is your favorite amusement park and why? Do you have a favorite ride other than a Disney ride?
Hmmm...not too much to catch up on! Everyone must be out enjoying their beautiful summer day :)
How was the race and what kind of swag are we taking about?!?!
:woohoo: on a great run and new to you bike, Jill! :cool2: Biking is great cross training for running and its always fun to have another reason to be outside. :sunny:
Well, we went biking today (is that what you call it?) but we went to a trail by our lake and river. The trail was overgrown but we figured it would be an adventure. Then we hit a narrow suspension bridge and when DH walked across, he sunk into the high water so we just ended up on the gravel roads. I had a lot of fun but today's ride was in place of a run since DH was off and we didn't have to find a babysitter!
I would love to do a Jeff Galloway retreat in Europe sometime if money was no object. Here is one they just started last week http://www.jeffgalloway.com/retreats/olympia-greece/
Ever since Lisa raved about her device that tells her how much activity points she earns, I wanted to get something like that. The great thing is that this is a real fitbit that will continue to work even if I stop doing WW. But it gives me activity points, not just calories or whatever, so it goes well with my current plan. And WW was selling it 10 € cheaper than the other prices I had seen. So I ordered it and can't wait for it to arrive to motivate me even more to move around more!
I have not heard from Amanda and since no one jumped up on here to say that they want to host the next month, I am considering to do the same as last year and just continue on with hosting for July and just expand the current thread to be a two months thread. The updating of the weights is really not a lot of work. What do you all think?
Sorry...I have totally forgotten to weigh myself this weekend and I just ate horribly at a picnic so I'll just wait until Monday to PM you.
Lots of people love the Fitbit, so I'm sure you will too!
If you want to continue on as host, I don't think you'll get any objections. We appreciate all the work that hosts do :thumbsup2
I managed to lose 2 pounds so made my goal for the month. :yay: I'm very happy because this is the first time in quite awhile I made the goal. Onward and downward. :cool1:
Congrats on reaching your goal! That's wonderful!
Well, I guess I killed the thread again. I always seem to do that ;)
QOTD fitness vacation: I think I would like to go somewhere tropical to learn to paddleboard and possibly surf. I'm not sure I have the balance for it, But I sure would like to try.
QOTD amusement parks: I actually haven't been to an amusement park in a LONG time. Every year we talk about going to Kennywood (Pittsburgh) or Cedar Point (Ohio) and never end up going. So, I don't have a favorite park or ride but I am hoping to get somewhere this summer.
It is hot here and after biking for awhile we went to the in-laws for a cookout/pool party. We left early because DH works tonight and wanted to sleep before his 12 hour shift. I am happy to be inside in air conditioning! I am just going to relax the rest of the day and get myself organized for grocery shopping tomorrow. I am also going to try to get my mind organized for some better eating!
I'll try to check back later, but if not, I'll definitely be in tomorrow to see what's going on.
Ahhhhhhhhh!!! I never did make it back here yesterday :( And, I'm out the door for a bike ride with DH while DSs are at the in-laws. So, I'll be back later on :)
QOTD for the weekend of Saturday June 28th and Sunday June 29th:
Other than a Disney park, what is your favorite amusement park and why? Do you have a favorite ride other than a Disney ride?
Wait! What? There are other amusement parks besides Disney?!? :faint:
:rotfl: Sorry, I grew up in the shadow of Disneyland. So I have a lifetime supply of pixiedust: and everyplace gets compared to there. Knotts Berry Farm was a fun amusement park when we were growing up. Locally here we have a little park called Silverwood. My favorite "ride" there is hanging out at Boulder Beach (the water park) and drinking beer. :beach:
Hmmm...not too much to catch up on! Everyone must be out enjoying their beautiful summer day :)
That's what we long for on those interminable winter days! ::yes::
How was the race and what kind of swag are we taking about?!?!
Yes, I would like to hear more about the awesome swag, too. :cool2:
That would be an awesome fitness vacation! I know you can kick a pound away before Monday :)
I actually managed to get rid of two! :yay:
Nah, no thread killing -- just the quiet end of a challenge in summer. :sunny:
Thanks for coaching this week, Jill! :flower3: It's been cool and rainy here so some warm weather sounds good. :cool2:
I need to do some meal planning today, too, and think about my goal for July. :scratchin
Happy Sunday all! :goodvibes
Well, this coach has no internet :( But, don't you worry...Verizon's technician will be at my house tomorrow between 1-5 :)
I had to run out so I stopped at Panera to borrow some of their internet for a few minutes :) I'm going to post the QOTD for tomorrow now and try to check in with my phone tonight and tomorrow morning, but be patient! It's hard to reply on my tiny iPhone :)
QOTD Monday, June 30: What are you most proud of about this June challenge?
Jill
