Interestingly, I am consistently way under on sodium in my food (and I don't salt very many things). I am a profuse salt sweater, so it makes more and more sense that lack of salt may have been causing nausea after my long runs. I had a brutal 6 mile run yesterday. Felt horrid at the end and was sure the day was going to be a lost cause, but came home and had some salt with my water and felt fine the rest of the day.
Have a great Monday!![]()
Hey y'all. Don't have much to say at this particular moment but I wanted to, at least, say "hello".
Happy Monday!![]()
DH and I were jut talking about this. I think when I start training soon for a 1/2 in October I may need salt sticks or something. Do you use anything like that during your runs? I am just starting to look into what to take during long runs, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love them!

Hey everyone! I am doing a quick check in. Dsis and I did the Biggest Loser Runwalk Erie 1/2 marathon yesterday. We walked the whole thing (except for a slight jog in the last 25 feet). It was a brutal 1/2 compared to last year! Seriously, we knew last years was completely flat and wonderful and this year was going to be hilly, but there are no words to describe it. I swear it was 12 miles of uphill, and some very steep hills! I checked my elevation on Run Keeper after we finished and it was 1075 feet difference. I still had a blast, but I feel bad for people who signed up for this as a first 1/2 or with the thinking that Biggest Lose promotes it as for all ability levels. We trained for hills (I looked back and the highest elevation change we did was 468 ft), but if people didn't, they were probably in trouble. I think BL will get a lot of feedback about this one. We finished in exactly 3:00, though, which we were super proud of. But, I think I pulled a muscle behind my knee in the last mile because it is hurting when I straighten it out or while walking down the stairsSo, I'm going to take it easy before I start running again.
I forgot to weigh in but it's probably about the same so I'll catch up next week. I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! I'll try to catch up more tomorrow.
Jill
Good morning everyone! Seems like we have entered the end of month quiet pase...
But we all still have nearly a week to reach out goals for the month!
My day started strange today, but also good. I was forced to walk to work (40 minutes) as the public transport system is on strike today. It is a beautiful day, so it was quite enjoyable. Since I am going to walk home, too, that's 80 minutes of exercise!
Work is being rather stressful, I do have a deadline on a big project coming up and I am not nearly as far as I thought I would be by now. So not a lot of DIS time the coming weeks... But I will keep up with this thread as it is so helpful!
I contacted Amanda who had signed up to host July to find out if she is still up for it. If I don't hear back from her, we will need another host for July... This also made me realise that we seem to have lost some regulars... I guess I need to send out some PMs to see how people are doing.![]()
Just a quick post to say hi!
I will do replies tonight and answer the salt question Jill.
Wish me luck. I am giving a training today at work and while I know my stuff and I know everyone knows I know my stuff, I sometimes have trouble talking (getting the words out). I am not really nervous, because I love what I am talking about (I am giving a database training--I know I'm weird), but just a little anxious that it's going to be hard to get my point across.
Have a great Tuesday! I plan to leave work on time tonight so hoping to post this afternoon.![]()
I've been MIA this week.. just busy at work, hubs has had a stressful week at work, DS just finished up finals yesterday .. UGH.. TGIF!!!

So here are my thoughts/experiences. Remember, I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv.DH and I were jut talking about this. I think when I start training soon for a 1/2 in October I may need salt sticks or something. Do you use anything like that during your runs? I am just starting to look into what to take during long runs, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love them!
Thanks.Good luck with your training today, Rose! I'm sure that you will do great!![]()
Well the loam came it was hard work moving it but I did about 1/2 of the pile then let Hubs help me with the rest. Then I planted all the flowers I'd gotten.. my butt muscles and down the back of my thighs still hurt today !!! but it's a good hurt - remind me I said that because I have Zumba tonight!!! LOL Michelle
Just checking in to say good morning before I take DS to camp. It's pretty quiet around here. I'm hoping that means everyone is out enjoying summer![]()
I'll be back later to see who's around!
Jill
Thanks. It went well, but the software that I was giving the training on would not load correctly with the browser that was on our computer in the conference room, so I was winging it....Luckily I had made very detailed handouts.
We are going to start training staff on how to use the software so it is a great career move for me and something to put on my resume and I got a new title. Of course I am still trying to cram this into my very part time schedule, but I am really using my brain, so I am liking it!

I hope everyone has a great day today!
I have tracked for 6 days in a row! As of right now I am looking at a pretty good first week on plan loss! Waiting until Friday to record it on mfp.
I am using up the majority of the calories I get from exercise, but that is the best I can do right now.Eventually that might not work, but for now I still seem to be losing, so going to call that good.

Good morning all!
I think this is the last day we don't have a coach so I will pinch hit here which is always easy to do on a Wednesday!
QOTD Wednesday, June 25, 2014: It's Woo Hoo Wednesday! Give yourself a big "woo hoo" for helping yourself to be healthy and share something that you did this week to help you with your goals.
So here are my thoughts/experiences. Remember, I am not a doctor, nor do I play one on tv.
First, if you aren't feeling bad after runs and can tolerate gatorade you may not need anything. Everybody sweats differently. Some people can eat a banana before a run for the potassium and carbs and that works great for them. Some people are ok with just eating one afterwards. For some people gu (or something similar works fine) and they don't need the additional electrolytes.
I started out taking endurolytes and drinking gatorade because I was feeling so very cruddy after long runs. I would feel ok at the finish, but an hour or so later feel nauseated for hours. They helped a little, but it just wasn't enough. After I went gf it got a little better, but when I eat really on plan I don't consume much sodium and I am a HUGE salt sweater. So I was starting to find the endurolytes just weren't enough and I was getting nauseated and having calf cramps. So I did a bunch of reading online and decided to just try straight salt. If you google it you should be able to find some stuff where folks talk about using salt packets or plain old table salt poured in a baggie. It has made a world of difference for me. I was so miserable on Sunday after my 6 mile run (hot and humid here), came home, had some water and salt, jumped in the shower, felt fine. And while a lot of people had problems with the heat at the 2012 wdw marathon I did salt and water the whole run and felt great--other than my back.

The other think to think about if you are feeling bad after a run is that it could be food. Dairy gives me issues anyhow, but I tried chocolate milk and Wendy's frosty's after runs because everyone talks about how great milk is after a run and it literally felt like it was curdling in my stomach. It was BAD!
So to sum it up--
I would maybe start with endurolytes or something similar.
If you seem to still be having issues look at salt tablets.
Both are usually sold at running stores or online.
And if that doesn't work investigate whether you just need some more plain old salt.
Hope this helps.![]()

Hi, friends!
My woo-hoo for today is that I actually got up and ran. The alarm went off, and I was really not feeling it. It was already really warm and muggy, even at 6:15. I got into the bathroom, brushed my teeth, and almost went back to bed. I somehow talked myself into getting my running clothes on, at which point I figured I might as well go. It wasn't pretty - my pace was fine, but I just didn't feel great throughout. Some runs are just like that - fortunately, they're not often, or I'd never keep doing this! I got through the whole 3.1 I'd planned for today, stretched out, and felt much better after a shower. I'm really glad I went, as it kept me on my activity plan for this week, but I'm still not sure I wouldn't have been better off staying in bed that extra bit of time!
Today - AT LAST - is the girls' last day of school. ! They're in for just a couple of hours, so I'm picking them up at dismissal and taking them into the city for lunch and a visit at my office. My colleagues want to see them, and some have never met them - it seems like a good day to take them around Mommy Work (the non-telecommuting side!) after having a Grown-Up Lunch together at one of the restaurants near my office.
Tonight we're at Seasons 52 with DH for a last day of school celebratory dinner. I love eating there - they bring you whatever nutritionals you want on anything on the menu on request. If I have wine & dessert as well as my entree, I can expect to spend 21 points on dinner. If I drop the wine, I'm back down to 15 points (they do 7-ounce pours!). With a light lunch and my already-done light breakfast, that'll totally work, tapping a few of my weekly allowance points. I'm on such a roll with tracking lately, and it's making a huge difference!
Hope everyone has a great Wednesday - we're happy to be joining the summer vacation ranks at last. Aulani is around the corner!
XO
Liz
Good morning! I'm Jill and I'll be your coach for the rest of JuneIs it June 26th already?!?!
In honor of the dreary looking morning here in western PA, what do you do for an instant mood enhancer, that's not food/exercise related, when you've got the blahs?
I'll be back later to check in. Have a great morning!
