WISH Away The Pounds ~ Achieving in April ~ All are WELCOME!

Good morning all! :goodvibes

QOTD Saturday, April 13, 2013: Which of these super foods would you like to use in your meals this week? Any thing on this list that is new to you or looks intriguing?

I've tried a lot of these foods. I am trying to eat more "real" foods as opposed to processed food lately. One of the things I want to try is almond milk. Someone had some smoothie recipes using it and it's only 1 point for 8 oz. on WW and a power food. :cool2:

I need all the super foods I can get. I did nothing but binge all day and now I feel like complete rubbish!!!
I've really felt off all day, I wonder if I'm coming down with something?!?!
I've also had some nerve pain in my arm and spasms in my back. Must see the chiro on Monday, wish he was still open on Saturdays.
Anyone have any cleansing ideas for the weekend? I feel like I need to detox.
I'm going to look over the super foods list and try to get some for this week. We have vacation and I don't want to spend a lot of time eating out. We need some healthy lunch and dinner ideas.

I guess I'm gonna go to bed. I hope everyone has a good weekend!
We are doing yard work and purging household items.

Sounds like a busy week ahead and congrats on your loss! :thumbsup2

Happy Saturday! I will try and get some of my landscaping pics uploaded today. I think we need some cheering up here.

KUDOS to our weekly host for the QOTD yesterday. It did help me get my butt out there and exercise. I thought of my reasons for exercising, really tuned into it and got out there and did it.

Now it does help that I am in PT and I am being guided by someone who has given me so many wonderful exercises to do safely.

As far as today and our QOTD, nice timing. I bought 2 sweet potatoes the other day and have not made them. We are resistant to eating them. ;) I have been on Pinterest looking at recipes for a week trying to decide how to make the sweet potatoes. I am leaning toward "chips" at this point. (ETA...I found a sweet potato bread! I know we will all like that.)

I want to make hummus. I also would like to try KALE. I know that is the "new thing" and I see it in the produce dept.

Also Bison meat. I don't see that on the list but that is one to try as well. It has higher protein, lower fat, and cholesterol that reg. lean beef. I would have to go to Whole Foods to get that, unless I can find a local butcher who carries it.

Enjoy the day. I will try and upload some pic's!!!

Ooo, I would like to see your landscaping pics. :sunny: We actually had a little snow this morning but the trees are getting ready to start blooming so spring will be here eventually. Our last frost date is mid-May so I need to live vicariously through you! :rotfl:

Good suggestion on the bison. Kale chips are supposed to be very good, too, but I to confess I've never tried them.

:woohoo: on finding exercises that you can do that don't hurt!

I am so sorry for the rough week that so many people seem to be having. I am very proud of everyone for hanging in there. There seems to be a consistent theme--eat crappy=feel crappy. When am I going to learn that lesson.:thumbsup2

Helen--hope your Mom is feeling better.

BBL with replies. I am having a major back flare up. It is pretty uncomfortable. I am going to head out to one of the branch Y's in a few minutes and do gentle yoga. Hopefully it will help, because I really want to get outside and do some stuff around the yard this weekend.:goodvibes

Rose, so sorry about the back. :flower3: pixiedust: it goes away soon. Maybe it's a sign you need to sit by the pool. :beach:

This week will include veggie burgers, beans, spinach...lots of things. Shameless plug for our recipe thread, as there are lots of recipes there that include many of these Super Foods!

Ooo, veggie burgers -- thanks for the reminder, Pamela! :goodvibes

It was an exciting morning here because I was able to finally book my excursions for our cruise in June. It makes it much more real now. :boat:

Everyone have a great Super Saturday and I will be back later.

Well, we lost our poor little Sunny last night. Got called in to work early and she hadn't seemed hungry (aka meowing) so I figured she must have gained enough strength to be nursing off Mama better so I left without trying to feed her. Came home for lunch so if she was hungry I could feed her and she was cold, lying off the heating pad and Mom was outside the closet. She'd been doing this off and on the last 3-4 days, I think she knew it was time. Tried to warm her and we rushed her to the vet who tried but after finding out she's never been able to suckle well figured out she had a deformity inside of her mouth. She said sometimes those kittens make it to weaning but go downhill pretty fast then--not being able to eat. So we took her home and I had to go back to work. Husband stayed with her until I got back, supporting her with his hands to suckle off Mom as well as she could. I got up about 2 am to check on her and she was off the heating pad again, got her warmed up, she tried to suckle on Mom and then went. I'm ok-- been through this a lot actually, probably should have let her go sooner than this but she was so cute and I had no way of knowing she had a deformity. The other 2 are fat and extremely healthy so I'm grateful for that and will start to spend some real time socializing them starting this week. Sunny's kind of got all of our attention so far.
Caught up reading but gonna go work out and then I have to go to work, there's just no wiggle room with work right now, our boss's Dad is dying of cancer so she's off 2 weeks and one of our meat cutters has jury duty. Oh well-- being busy is good.

Aww, Susan, so sorry to hear about little Sunny. :hug: Bless her sweet little kitty heart. :cat: And you too because I know how much you love your kitties. :love:

Awww...I have been following your cat stories. So sorry to hear about the little one. Many hugs to you!!!!:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:

As far as my pic's I am looking for my camera cable....grrrr....I can't find it! :headache:

Susan, I'm so sorry to hear about Sunny, but you know you did your best for her. Sometimes things just aren't meant to be. Good that your other two are doing OK.

My mum is off her oxygen and back home with an extra strength asthma inhaler and some antibiotics. She looked a lot better today when we went to the hospital, think it's given her a bit of a scare though. They let her go home at 6:00pm, so we picked her up and took her home. We're only 20 minutes away if she needs us, but she just wanted a good nights sleep in her own bed. Will check on her in the morning.

Had a good day food wise considering the circumstances, and got some Almond Breeze unsweetened almond milk to try and make a rice pudding with tomorrow.

Wow, miss a couple days and get pages and pages behind! Can't reply to everything but here goes...

QOTD Thursday 11th April 2013

We all need little treats from time to time, whether it be something that is calorie laden, or something that upsets us medically (GF for example).......how often do you allow yourself such a treat? And do you feel it was worth the hassle and guilt afterwards??

I try to give myself a little something everyday... some sugar free chocolate or sugar free jello made with coconut milk or low carb ice cream :) Just gotta keep portions in control!

And PAM I would love some of those low carb treat recipes you have!

I am Lisa and I will be your coach for this week. :wave2: I am a veteran of many of these challenges since I found the WISH boards in 2009. My weight loss seems to move at a glacial pace at times but each year I end the year weighing less than what I started. I've also done things that I never dreamed of doing and made lifelong friends. I can honestly say WISH has made me so much happier and healthier. :goodvibes

QOTD Friday, April 12, 2013: What is your reason to exercise today? It can be from the list or share you own. Bonus points if you share your favorite exercise excuse and a way to bust it.

:wave2: Thanks for coaching Lisa!

My best reason for exercising is that I want to be the best version of myself, which includes gaining strength, health, and being proud of my body!

My most often used exercise excuse is that I don't have time... so I bust it by going first thing in the morning and MAKING time :)

Confession time.... As I mentioned I've been hovering a few pounds over my maintenance range lately. I've had trouble getting my weekends under control and figured that was the problem. So last weekend, despite lots of easy excuses to not eat right, I stayed OP, made good choices, and did not have any big splurges. I ate well during the week, measured my portions, journaled all my foods, etc. And I was looking for GOOD THINGS on the scale this morning. And you know what.... I lost exactly .1 !! :mad: And I can see that the frustration, anger, and disappointment is ready to cloud my entire day. I feel HUGE (although I know that is more about my head than my belly). I feel ANGRY. And I feel SCARED that somehow, despite having lost nearly 90 pounds and keeping it off for 4+ years, I can't do it any more. I know that is CRAZY and that I KNOW what to do and how to do it and I just need to be a bit more patient and maybe make a few more changes (like increasing my exercise routine).

Why am I confessing all of this?? Because I know that many of you struggle with losing and maintaining and I want you to know that it isn't just YOU! Even us "success stories" have days/weeks when we feel like we just can't do it any more! But you know what I will do? I will stay the course. I will stay on plan. I will stay "in the wagon" with you all. I will continue to make smart, healthy food choices. I will continue to get regular exercise (although admittedly I need MORE of this). I will NOT let this 3 lb +/- of "extra" weight get me down! But most of all I WILL NOT GIVE UP!!

Thank you for the reminder Pam! It is sometimes hard to remember that this is a journey... a lifelong journey... and not a destination! Determination and persistence are really the key! :thumbsup2

Life has no remote. Get up and change it yourself.

LOVE this :yay:

QOTD Saturday, April 13, 2013: Which of these super foods would you like to use in your meals this week? Any thing on this list that is new to you or looks intriguing?

I regularly eat things like spinach, almonds, cauliflower, flaxseed and make quinoa for the family. I love unsweetened almond milk... just trying to get the kiddos to like it! I also want to try using some other game meat... looking forward to trying the buffalo burger at the Twisted Root Burger Co in Dallas during our trip to see a Cowboys game this fall!

I want to make hummus.

DF has an awesome recipe he follows for homemade low fat hummus if you are interested!

Well, we lost our poor little Sunny last night.

Aww, so sorry for your loss Susan :hug:

My mum is off her oxygen and back home with an extra strength asthma inhaler and some antibiotics. She looked a lot better today when we went to the hospital.

I'm glad to hear your mum is doing better! Hope she continues to recover!

Ok everyone, I have a lot of PMs waiting for me :) Can't wait to update our progress post! Keep sending in the weigh-ins if you haven't already! :goodvibes

Oh lord! It must be the season, the month, the weather, who knows what but I have been struggling since Easter. I haven't lost a single pound, some BAD snacks have been creeping back into my daily diet and I have been skipping some exercise days!
Some emotional issues at home ( come to find out DH is really NOT supportive of this lifestyle change, he was hoping it was just a fad) so I've been battling with his attitude as well.
Starting tomorrow I need to get back on track! Ultimately I know what I'm doing is good for me and the kids. Recommitting to eating good and exercising. I'm going to block out any negative chatter and get my happy attitude back!

Good luck and hugs to all those that are having a rough go of it :)
Melinda

:( I'm so sorry you are not getting support from your DH. Stay positive and remember you are doing this for YOU and your kids.

I'm having a rough week too - it started out so well but this week was bad :(

:( I hope this week will be better for you!

Well, jumped on the scales this morning to see 206......only one off this week, but still a loss.

Been a bit of an odd day, got a call at 6:30am to say my mum was being rushed into hopital with breathing difficulties (she has asthma), so been there with her most of the day whilst they try to stabilise her. Didn't actually get breakfast until we came home for a break at 2pm!!

Been back to see her tonight, she's seems a little better but they're keeping her in overnight for observation. Managed to stick to the diet today though despite everything.

So my reason for exercise today was that I object to the parking charges for visitors at the hospital, so when we went back for visiting this evening, we parked on the public road a few streets away and walked.........got some exercise I wasn't planning....thus I exercised as I'm tight with money!!!!

I hope your mom is doing better!

QOTD Saturday, April 13, 2013: Which of these super foods would you like to use in your meals this week? Any thing on this list that is new to you or looks intriguing?

I'll be back tomorrow with my answer and replies. Have a great evening all! :goodvibes

I will be using fruits and veggies, plus chicken and lean meat. I would like to incorporate some of the grains that we do not usually have.

I've tried a lot of these foods. I am trying to eat more "real" foods as opposed to processed food lately. One of the things I want to try is almond milk. Someone had some smoothie recipes using it and it's only 1 point for 8 oz. on WW and a power food. :cool2:

Good suggestion on the bison. Kale chips are supposed to be very good, too, but I to confess I've never tried them.

I don't use much dairy, but I do use almond milk in my cereal and coffee. Plus, I was planning to use it in smoothies. I've tried kale chips, but I wasn't a fan.

Hello all! I'm sorry I've been missing a couple days. I hope those of you that a had a rough week are feeling better :goodvibes

I have a busy few days, so I will check in when I can. I am still doing the 30 Day Shred and finished day 7 today. I'm pretty proud that I've stuck with it. It's like a habit now that I come home from work and do the workout. Today I got up early and did it first thing so I wouldn't make up any excuses not to do it. I've been doing more yoga as well. I ate so good this week with the exception of yesterday lol. I needed sweets and I overdid it a bit. But, I'm completely back on track today.

Well, I am off to relax a bit before bed. Have a great weekend.

Jill

Our group seems to be struggling a bit this lately so today's list is one to help us remember to take time and smell the flowers. :hippie: And a little pixiedust: doesn't hurt either. ;)

So very sorry to hear about Sunny. :sad: Its so hard to loose something you tried so hard to save. I am such a cat person, this brought tears to my eyes...:sad: Very glad the other two are doing fine though and I am sure lots of cuddles will be in order!! :goodvibes

Susan--I am really sorry about your kitty.

MM--I make hummus. It's pretty easy if you have a food processor. My favorite store brand is sabra--it is so creamy. I found this blog online about how to make it really creamy at home. It's a little more work, so I don't do it very often. I make the chickpeas in the crockpot during the day. They get pretty soft this way and taste so much better I think--plus no sodium. Then, this is the time consuming part--we take the skin off the chickpeas. Mike and I stand at the kitchen sink and do this. You can definitely skip this part if you want, but it was somewhat relaxing in a strange kind of way. I freeze half of the chickpeas for another time. The next trick--mix your tahini with your olive oil and blend until fluffy. don't add anything else to first step. After it is fluffy you can add the rest of your ingredients. There are tons of hummus recipes, but I have found that most call for too much olive oil and too much lemon juice for my taste, so add both of these slowly. I usually mix about half the olive oil the recipe calls for with the tahini and then add more later if I want. Since the beans are unsalted, you might want to add in a little salt.

And if you use canned beans, definitely rinse them good. This will wash off the stuff that bothers most people's tummies and some of the sodium as well. I am trying to use less canned stuff, but it is hard when it is so convenient.

****
I did ok yesterday with the food. Not great, but much better than I had been doing. My back was so bad on the way to yoga, but by the time I left it was feeling a little better. I am determined to go to yoga this week and find a massage person. It's either that or back to the doctor. I kept hoping the back thing would go away, but I have had two therapists now tell me that this is probably a chronic thing that I will have to manage. So now I just have to find a way to manage it.:goodvibes

Instead of believing in miracles, depend on them.

Ths one off the list has shaped my outlook the past years. When something bad or wrong happens, I do not view it as a negative, I view it as an opportunity for God to use it in a special way...we had 31 months of double mortgages...while my weight ballooned during it, so did some major heart changes in each of our kids and me and dh...we became very prayerful and due to the great strain on finances learned to appreciate the many many cool blessings we now could see.

Always expect the silver lining!

So I havent posted in a couple days, mainly because I have been struggling with my weigh in...... :furious:

I have been tracking my food, which for me is new, and have always been coming in under my calorie limit!!! Some days by quite a bit, but not sure if its my working schedule, or the fact that I am just not eating enough. (As if that isn't ironic!!):scared1:

And I have been exercising almost daily and even made it halfway to my goal on the exercise thread!! So imaging my surprise when I actually gained a pound!! :confused3

Just very frustrated and annoyed more than anything else, however it does seem I am in some very good company!! :thumbsup2

Oh well day shift is almost here so I will check in again in the afternoon. Have a great day everyone! :cool1:

Helen, glad your mum is doing better. Good job staying on track! :goodvibes

Ok everyone, I have a lot of PMs waiting for me :) Can't wait to update our progress post! Keep sending in the weigh-ins if you haven't already! :goodvibes

Thanks for the reminder! :thumbsup2

Jill, way to go on the 30 Day Shred! :yay:

Thanks for the hummus recipe,Rose. :thanks:

I know the scale will soon show your hard work. :hug: I think sometimes when you work out a lot that you have a tendency to retain water. Hang in there! :goodvibes

:cool1:

Me too :( I don't get it...

QOTD:
Don't condemn your imperfections...
This resonates with me because this is something I struggle with all the time! It is hard for me to forgive myself or accept times when I slip up without a lot of guilt. I am working now to understand why I slip up so I can really make changes, as well as working to accept these hiccups on the road to success wothout beating myself up or letting myself give up on the journey!

7. Strive for progress, not perfection.

27. Be patient.

35. Slow down and enjoy the present.

80. When your heart is at odds with your head, follow your heart.

QOTD Sunday, April 14, 2013: Do any of these reminders about happiness resonate with you in particular? Or do you have an item of your own to add?

Be back later with replies.

These four resonate with me the most. I tend to have a problem with trying to do everything and doing it perfect. This creates anxiety and stress. I'm trying to slow down and enjoy all the little (and big) moments. I'm also trying to let things go with the help of DH. So he forgot to give DSs a fruit in their lunch but let them have cookies & a granola bar? At least he packed their lunches and I didn't have to. I'm a progress in work :lmao:

Mmmmmmm hummus. Thanks for your insight. I'm planning on trying to make some pretty soon. This will definitely help me.

Back pain is no fun and I hope you get it all figured out soon!

I just want to say thanks for sharing this. DH and I are trying to think more of our blessings and less of wants. It's hard for DSs to think about since they want everything. But, I'm hoping to teach them to be happy with what we have.

So sorry you are frustrated. I think that everyone has experienced this same thing at some point in our journeys. Hang in there!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hello all. I am doing a quick check in before I do some more housework. I woke up at 5:30 am! Why? I have no idea. So, at 6:30 I got up and did 30ds. I am so tired now after taking kids to Sunday school, dishes, laundry, and clipping and counting boxtops (I am DSs' school coordinator). I think I may try to nap today. It's not very often that I nap, mainly because I start thinking of all the things I could be doing. But, I think I will try to relax and take a small nap before dinner. No other plans for me. I forgot to send in my weigh in, so I'm going to do that now before I forget again! Have a nice Sunday :)
For those of you struggling with no scale change despite serious exercise and eating modifications...here are two tips a dear friend gave to me today and will put it to the test..
We want to keep muscle while lowering calories, to help that happen do the two following changes for faster scale changes!
Eat a portion of protein with a carbohydrate or fat, but NOT both...
Chicken and salad (But NO dressing)
Chicken and alfredo sauce or pesto sauce but NO Carbohydrate
Chicken and brown rice but NO fats
Etc...
Avoid all sugars except in fruits, and if you eat a fruit try to incorporate some small form of protein with it...teaspoon of peanut butter with banana, cheese with apple, etc..
Try it a week...the way a body digests these foods helps maximize loss :)
Hey. Doing Ok. Finally caught up a little today on my lunch on my phone so sorry for not replying to your very kind responses regarding Sunny. I'd been very stoic until last night when Misty kept meowing and looking around for her darn it then I had my cry out with Misty. She was so cute trying to play with me and make me laugh. She's so young. She's fine today though and the other 2 kittens are so fat and healthy it's impossible to have any worry about them. They are 3 weeks today and are walking around shakily and playing.
Tomorrow's my birthday so I will have nachos for dinner-- my favorite place-- and the free birthday Margarita lol. I'll try to watch my eating earlier and be sure to work out.
Thanks for the happiness list Lisa-- it really helped me reading it on lunch today. :goodvibes:grouphug:
Good morning all! :goodvibes
I will post the QOTD today and come back for replies later.
Since I am coaching you know you are going to find yourself with a little sparkpeople.com article, right? ;) And since it is Monday that means it's Motivational Monday.
5 Signs It's Time to Get Real About Weight Loss
It's easy to say that you want to lose weight. It's also easy to find the motivation to hit the gym regularly and choose the right foods in the beginning. After a few weeks, our motivation seems to wane and those old, unhealthy habits of yours start to creep back in. What seemed so easy at first is now difficult. You have cravings. You're tired. You miss those social dinners with your friends and doughnuts at the office. That 6 a.m. aerobics class doesn't seem as fun, and getting up without hitting the snooze button seems impossible.
Sound familiar? So many of us have fallen into this yo-yo diet and exercise trap over the years. You decide you want to lose weight, start a program, and even start to see some results and then…life gets in the way. Before you know it, you're off your healthy living plan again. While SparkPeople has the tools and resources that make weight loss fun and uplifting—a true lifestyle change—you still need to commit to using them. You have to commit now and, well, forever. You have to choose to change your life, both when life is breezy and when things aren't going your way. Whether you have 5 pounds or 150 pounds to lose, you have to get serious if you're ever going to reach your goals.
Sign #1: You keep waiting to start. Stop putting it off!
Sign #2: You can't do the things you want to do. Focus on functionality.
Sign #3: You're facing chronic health issues. Live longer and healthier.
Sign #4: You give up easily. Get back on track.
Sign #5: You're envious of others who have lost weight.Make yourself a priority!
