I am a complete novice as far as this sort of thing is concerned, but just managed to set up the wireless router and it is working, my question is do I need a seperate firewall installed on laptops connected to the broadband by the router or does each lap top need a firewall installed!!!!

Hope someone will jump in as I'm interested in this as well.

Bought wireless router/modem as DP and DS are keen to try Mario Kart on the Wii with friends on-line :)

I'm no expert, but as far as I know you should not need another firewall as long as there is one on your adsl modem/router. It should do for your entire home network as long as each computer connects through the router.
I hope this is right as this is how I'm configured!

You should have anti-virus software on each PC though.

yep kevs right.when you set up.usaly thougth one pc.thats when you sort out the firewall.and virus software on each pc/laptop
Amazing how many people dont have firewalls.when we had proplems with our provider,we were able to conect with 3 Neighbours wirless routers without them knowing

One firewall is fine - as mentioned make sure every workstation on your network is virus protected.
Know what you mean about neighbours wireless networks, Paul. We've hooked onto them in the past  :guilty: one of them is called "does my bum look big in this" :confused3 :rotfl2: :lmao: and funnilly enough two are called "Paul's network".

Our PC and both macs have anti virus and firewalls on each of them, and the router is encrypted. Always go on the basis you can never have enough protection.

Personally I would go for the hardware firewall in the router and firewall software on every PC connected to it.

I find Zone Alarm still does a good job and is free :)
