Winter Storm Nemo - Who is Affected?

US!!!!!!

The blizzard was just added to our weather forecast yesterday so I'm freaking :confused3

We're supposed to be one of the first flights out Sunday morning -- unfortunately it's not a direct flight. However, I made sure to pay the extra fee to reserve seats so they can't bump me if they're overbooked. Just not so sure what we'll do if our flight is delayed enough to make us miss our connection...we have to do Immigration too.

Yes, above poster is right. You certainly can be bumped if you have reserved seats. If you miss your connection, you will have to contact your airline to be rebooked. I suggest you make sure you have your airline's phone number handy. Call them if you miss your flight rather than wait in a huge line at the airport.

If you are flying from Halifax, you clear customs/immigration in Canada.

My flight isn't until Sunday morning. The snow is expected to stop here in NY early Saturday morning, so I imagine the airport will be open on Saturday.

As for Plan B, I feel like I really can't afford to think that way. I've made like the ideal itinerary for my family. Booked several dinner ressies, show tickets, a spa day and a Wishes Cruise. I've planned it all because of my grandmother's successful heart surgery, and so she could finally go on vacation for the first time in over a decade.

I'm kinda going with hope and believing that everything will work out okay. It's the only thing I feel I can do.

JFK will be fine by Sunday morning, don't worry about it.
Have a great trip!

Thanks, Lauren!!! I was hearing that on the news today as well. They're even gonna have flights heading out tomorrow. Words can't express the relief I feel. I can now be excited as I wanna be!

Thanks to everyone else for the advice too! I did end up creating a backup plan. I reserved a minivan just in case. I was totally ready for a 17-hour drive tomorrow. =)

I will be flying out of JFK for a two-week WDW vacation. Thankfully, my flight isn't until Sunday morning, so things should be clear by then. I'm still hoping and praying that my trip isn't affected in any way. I'd be devastated.

You should be fine. Just heard on the radio that JFK was going to start flights at 9:00 a.m. today (Saturday). Originally they had said 3:00 p.m. but moved it up. We are snowed in - can't get the front door open. Easy 2 feet + and drifts where we can't get our front door open. Car is totally under snow.

We are so jealous! Wish we were going to WDW! HAve a great time. By the time you get back, it should be gone - rain on Monday!

Different airlines do it differently. On some your chances of being bumped are a little greater if you don't already have a seat assignment. Others use check in time to help determine who gets bumped. Some use frequent flyer status in the calculations (or determinations).

Yes they can bump you if they are overbooked even though you paid for a seat. So you better get there early because if the have to bump people they go according to the time they have checked in and arrived at the airport.

I saw a couple get denied boarding and I over heard the gate agent explain why their seats were given away.

Yup yup yup -- this is true. But we always get there 2 hours before, so I'm sure we'll be fine for our first flight. We're also checked in for both flights. Our connection is going to be the issue.

And with so many people wanting/needing my seats, there is plenty of competition. Almost every flight out of our airport was cancelled today.

We had to pay extra for seat selection. That makes a huge difference with Air Canada -- still you have to be at the gate with time to spare.

We're stuck too on LI....had to take the glass out of the storm door to get outside....took 3 of us 3+ hours shoveling and snow blowing to clear the driveway and cars......no snow plow in sight and I don't expect one for a while watching the mess on the LIE and other roads

Saw on TV, all PANYNJ airports open as of noon today. That's JFK, LGA, EWR, Teterboro (no commercial) and Stewart.

Haven't heard about Islip.

That's good news for us -- we're 12-24 hours behind that. But the storm isn't hitting us quite so hard -- eastern US got buried in some places.:coffee:

Southwest canceled all flights out of islip today(sat 2/9)....and it looks like all early flights are canceled on 2/10 as well since those planes aren't arriving the night before

That's what is happening here too -- the planes aren't coming in tonight so they aren't available for departures tomorrow. Our flight did get cancelled, but I was able to rebook on a direct flight going out 3 hours later. And while all the flights an hour after it have already been cancelled, I can see on the arrivals that my plane is coming in tonight.

Fingers crossed

We are also in Holbrook!!! Our neighbor was fantastic and snow plowed our driverway and surrounding houses but still had to to dig to get out the front door and cars. Forget the back door! Poor dog doesn't know what to do. Wish we were booked for WDW!

Just be prepared and have backup flights for whatever airline you are flying. Like others have said most airlines don't want their aircraft stuck at an airport that is getting a direct hit from the blizzard so alot of flights aren't flying into the Northeast which means planes might not be available even Sunday morning. So I would research some other flights for later that day and Monday just in case.
Good luck and let us know how you make out!!

At JFK now... and our plane is here!!! =) Super psyched for an unaltered two-week Disney extravaganza.

Good luck to anybody affected by Nemo! So glad it's over.

That's awesome!! I'm glad you didn't have any interuptions! If you had been flying further North up near us out of BOS or PVD they have cancelled pretty much all morning flights today but hope to back in order in the afternoon. I just pray no storms come early next week when we are heading to Disney!
Have fun!!

I have a little 8lb pup...and shoveled a small area for her in the back...she's adapting like the rest of us.....we finally had a pay loader plow one lane down our block but our cars aren't 4 wheel drive so were staying in another day...it has been really wonderful how everyone is helping each other out
