Winter in Full Force

At least Moncton is shut down! Churches all cancelled. The rink is even closed so we now have a hockey game to reschedule. No buses. No mall. Haven't seen a Plow yet. It's a stay home and work on whatever day!

I think the poster above you needs to 'chill' - no pun intended! I, too, live in a warmer climate down south (by choice) - no way could I take the cold and snow. I'm a born southerner and love the heat.

It was 'very' obvious that you were joking, but some people may 'dish is out' but can't take it. Wonder what she would say when we're experiencing summer heat and humidity, and she's not! Lots of people do that (just 'reverse' fun) and doesn't bother me in the least.
Enjoy your day - I am!!

I'm from the south and I now live in Western MA. I get that the original poster was joking and I can even find it a little funny. However, try not to hold it against those who don't. This winter has been brutal. I've spent the last month dealing with having to do long distance driving for work and it's been a nightmare. Not to mention the constant onslaught of high wind storms and wondering if you're going to lose power when it's freezing temperatures outside. Normally, between sanding and plowing we can get on business as usual around here, but with the amount of storms we've had recently it's just not possible.

Depending on where people are living and the destruction their area has seen, it's kind of like making fun of people that just suffered a hurricane. Which I know was not at all the persons intention. Especially, since the initial posts were weary but still lighthearted in tone.

In Atlantic Canada we've had about 6 ft of snow fall in a 3 week period. Possible 2 ft coming tomorrow. Another foot on Wed is in the forecast. Feb 28th can't get here soon enough!! Bring on Florida weather!!!

Living in Western MA for the last two years, I keep asking myself how you guys make it work up there!

Oh, I totally understand, and if you see my second posting #22 it explains somewhat! I really feel for you people up there - it is a potentially dangerous situation, and would really scare me to be 'locked' in like that. I would not make fun, no way, just was feeling bad for the poster I quoted, knowing she meant no harm.
I have lived through many hurricanes, and have heard lots of people make light of them - we never know what we'll face no matter what part of the country we live in.
Hope everyone stays safe!

I think there is something different and more serious about this winter. My town lost a good community member a couple of weeks ago. He died of a heart attack shoveling snow. There has been no real break from the snow, and no usual thaw cycle in between snow storms. I'm not sure I would have chosen to live up here if I didn't already live here. I was born up here, and I think you have to grow up with winters to even think about living with them. But if someone were to tell me that this would be the typical New England winter from now on, I would seriously consider whether I want to keep living up here. If global warming means snow banks over my head every winter, it would have to be a really great Spring, Summer and Fall to make it worth it.

A quick check of the weather shows it is a balmy -14 here in Southwest Michigan. Add in wind chill and it feels like -30.:cold::cold: Makes the 54 degrees Lake Buena Vista is showing at sound like a heat wave!!

Seriously though, be careful everyone. Don't go out unless you have to, and remember to not let your pets stay outside. I'm going to be struggling with that today, as I have a beagle that will stay out all day long if I would let him.
You must not be far from me. Northern Indiana and I assume you experienced the blizzard yesterday and last night. Weatherman really missed that one where I live. Funny thing is, my wife is coming home from disney and a cruise. Surprise!!!!!!

I just opened a diet pepsi can that was sitting on a shelf in my garage. It has ice in it. That means it's WAY too cold here. I grew up with lots of cold, snowy winters, so it's not like I"m not used to it...but man,I could totally go for a WDW vacation right now!

I was just trying to show where the emotions were coming from. I'm not offended either way. I understand that you just felt bad for the other poster.

I'm from hurricane country (Virginia Beach). I grew up with them. I used that as an example because I think hurricane jokes are in bad taste.

Thanks for the well wishes. :)

The five feet of snow on my front lawn are why I just booked a trip for 9 days from now.

Public transit is only going to be half-working here tomorrow, so I'm looking forward to my 2-hour trip to the airport (usually around 1 hour). But then GOODBYE SNOW!

The other morning, my car wouldnt start because the battery was frozen in -10F degree weather in central MA. The snow banks over 10 ft hight around intersections are severely dangerous to try and drive around. You have to inch out into traffic and hope for the best. Its seriously dangerous and potentially life threatening to venture out into this weather. Ive never seriously thought about moving to Florida but after this winter, I dont think I can ignore the call anymore. Its just safer, 50○ I can handle, anything below 0 is unacceptable!

and it continues.....it is now -8 this morning with a wind chill of -25 today and its suppose to get colder tomorrow. The freeze is moving deep into the south and I see Orlando only in the 40's this morning. I am just hoping that when we go to WDW, at the end of March, that it will be warm so that we can forget about this winter for a week.

It is 0 here, with a windchill of -17. At least the sun came out for a little bit this morning! I am SO SO ready to head to Disney on Sunday!

Is live in Saskatchewan and we have cold, snowy winters every year which is normal and I actually enjoy. And I mean minus 35 C plus windchill can get us to minus 60 some celcius lots of days, with deep, deep snow. But never in my life have I seen snow like Atlantic Canada is getting. Entire houses are being buried under 20 feet drifts! So wherever youre from, whatever you're used to too, stay safe everyone!!!
