Winter Ice Storm Cleon

Cleon is just now moving out of north Texas so those of you in the north might still get this.

Of course, my company decided to be open today. If things happen as usual very few people will show up and they won't be able to get much done. I usually go in despite conditions but it's really way too nasty this time. My husband can't even get his car door open due to the ice. His car looks like a car-shaped snow ball.

I can't believe your office is open! It looks like everything in our Plano neighborhood is shut down - no cars have been out and about except the tree service people who are out looking to earn some business.

We lost a huge limb of our live oak - so sad. But lucky that it didn't hit the house or any cars parked in the street. Neighbor lost a couple branches too, and narrowly missed his car!

I'm just NE of Indy. We got 4" of snow last night, another 1-5" expected today/tonight. Just south of Indianapolis is where all the ice is. Southern Indiana is a mess. I-70 is the dividing line they're saying for central Indiana.

I don't know how southern Ohio is doing. On our maps, they put the Cincinnati area in the same bracket as south of I-70 in Indy, which is 9-12" of snow with ice.

I have a friend who was stuck in Evansville last night (west of Louisville in southern Indiana). She's posting pictures of the highways while her husband drives them home. They're sticking to the highways, and so far the highways are a mess. She said they were going 25-30 mph because they were still covered with snow.

The noon news has adjusted its forecast. North of I-70 in Indiana is only expected to get another inch or so. South of I-70 will get another couple inches. Hope this helps you…..

I live in the Memphis area, and did during the big ice storm in '94. We only lost power for a few hours, and that was because our transformers were up on poles. As soon as they were replaced, we were good to go. The areas that lost power for a month or more had above-ground utilities and huge trees; the trees would fall and pull the meter away from the house. Memphis Light Gas and Water couldn't do anything about that, it had to be repaired by electricians so it was slow going. The trees had to be cleared before the electricians could get in to work.

A lot of utilities are underground now, so hopefully it won't be as catastrophic as it was that time. But our ground is wet, so if we get ice and then wind, we may have some trees falling.

Our family Christmas Party is on Sunday. I some how hope that the storm misses us here in the DC area.

Where is "here"?

In the Dallas area, we've had hours of sleet and are in the 20s, where the forecast says we'll stay for a few days. Iced roads, cancelled flights, closed schools. I expect to see downed trees and some power outages tomorrow; that's how these usually play out for us.

We don't get feet of snow or anything, but it's pretty debilitating for us.

Arrrrgggghhh!:furious: DD and her DH are due to return from their belated honeymoon in Thailand tomorrow! They were to arrive in Dallas early Saturday morning, but if flights are being cancelled, they will probably be stranded in San Francisco for a while. Could be worse, I guess!:worried:

It's been snowing for a good 3 hours here now. Supposed tog et 5-9 inches and a good layer of ice!

Rain turning to sleet & freezing rain here in Pittsburgh. Supposed to turn to snow tonight, 2 to 4 inches.

I have a trip to Ohio on Sunday, actually glad it's predicted to be colder, freezing rain was changed to light snow.

My son is in Pittsburgh ( central catholic) playing in a high school freshman basketball game. Im nervous about this weather and the drive home. Its really sleeting here. We live about 20 miles south of the city. I wish they would have cancelled it.

I'm north of the city. I saw on the lunch time news that our area was upgraded from 3-5" to 5-7" plus some ice. I wonder if this'll be like the Thanksgiving storm we had where we got 1.5" instead of the anticipated 8".
