Anyone else out there watching to see what kind of mess Cleon is going to cause?

They have cancelled school here, told everybody to stay off the roads tomorrow, and declared a state of emergency, so I'm guessing it will all just pass right by. Nothing like preparing for a long term power outage to insure all you end up with is rain.

Where is "here"?

In the Dallas area, we've had hours of sleet and are in the 20s, where the forecast says we'll stay for a few days. Iced roads, cancelled flights, closed schools. I expect to see downed trees and some power outages tomorrow; that's how these usually play out for us.

We don't get feet of snow or anything, but it's pretty debilitating for us.

I think that snow would be easier than all of this ice!

I fully expect to call in tomorrow. Frisco puts out very little sand and if things don't change I won't even be able to back down our driveway.

Apparently, we had a storm that was almost identical to this one back in 94 here, and it took a month for full power to be restored to everyone, so they are telling everyone to plan on being without for at least a few days possibly longer depending on how bad it is. We aren't scheduled for the "bad" until tomorrow. When I'm not sure as each news/ weather station is predicting something different (4am, 7:30am, 9:00am,12:00, 2:00) I just don't see it being that bad based on the radar. It really looks like it is all going north of us, but they are saying it is going to start to head more east tomorrow, and we will get .25 to .75 inches ice, plus possibly .5 in snow. No one is really concerned about the snow, its the ice. They are worried about it bringing down trees and power lines. I wasn't here in 94, so I'm not sure, but those who were have been a little panicked. The local news posted a picture of our local Walmart showing completely empty shelves. People are sure shopping like power will be out a month.

Exactly- ice in the trees and on power lines is a huge problem. Lots of our trees still have leaves, so that adds to the weight and downed power lines. And nobody can drive safely on ice, so we always have a lot of accidents.

Yeah - ice is just nasty :scared: I'd far rather have a couple feet of snow than ice.
We had a major ice storm up here a few years ago, and lost power for 3 days - we almost never lose it for more than a couple of hours. My SiL was out for over 3 weeks.

I've got friends just northeast of Austin, and it's looking like they'll just miss the worst of it. We'll get the remnants on Monday, it seems, but it should be mostly stormed out by then.

Stay warm, and drive safe if you have to go out

It does not take much ice for tree limbs and power lines to start breaking. Tree limbs breaking an fallin onto power lines can be a huge problem.

This time up in Barely INdiana Nearly Kentucky where I am from it rained all day Thurs an with the wet roads the road crew was not able to put down the brine that keeps the ice and snow from sticking to the roads. Another real mess!

Snow on roads can be plowed and roads opened back up shortly most of the time (I will be honest and admit that in the 94 storm Kentucky did close for a full week and that they found their snow plows during the spring thaw out rusting in a field).ICE even the snow plows do no good they slide off roads the same as every one else.

In Rowlett, Tx, and can hear the trees cracking and falling in our neighborhood. I'm thankful we don't have any that are over the house or our vehicles!

I was around for the ice storm of 94 and it wasn't pretty. If this one is as bad we are in for a mess. 10 days we were without power. I'm hoping for the best.

I agree that that is how it will probably play out, it seems every snowstorm is predicted to be worse than the last and I hope lives aren't eventually lost by the crying of "wolf."

Personally, I feel that the naming of winter storms by the Weather Channel is ridiculous.

So true! Just another way to hype up the storms, and who picks these names??
Really, Cleon? And the next will be Deon, really? Will the next be Eon? Then Freon?

I miss the old Weather Channel of 20 years ago when they were in the weather forecasting business and not the infotainment business.

here in Dallas suburbs, Frisco canceled school today and wow, so much ice everywhere! I thought it was snow at first but when I went to let the dogs out, it was solid. My dogs were looking at me "really???" and came back in quickly. Stay safe everyone!!! No need to be out in these conditions...

I'm quite thankful for the opportunity to work from home today (and probably tomorrow, too). I was in a 4WD last night for my trip home at 9pm. Most nerve-racking, but no real problems. Not going to try it today.

It is still coming down here is southern IL . Have a quite a bit which is covering a sheet of ice. Not good. :scared1:

School was cancelled here (Columbus, OH). It doesn't look very nasty outside? :confused3

I thought today was supposed to be the worst of it. If that's true, we squeaked by with a day off school and nothing detrimental.

Not bad here in MD. We were in the big ice storm in NC several years back and lost power for 9 days...and it was like 10 degrees out...that really really stunk. I feel for all those who have lost or will lose power. I hope everyone stays safe!!!

Anyone in Ohio (just saw the above post...thanks and GO Bucks!!) or Indianapolis area? DH and DD are leaving tonight from MD to drive out to Indianapolis for college championship game tomorrow night and I worry about the roads (route 70??? I think). They are staying in Somerset, PA tonight...how is it there? TIA!!!

Be safe and stay warm everyone!!!

I'm just NE of Indy. We got 4" of snow last night, another 1-5" expected today/tonight. Just south of Indianapolis is where all the ice is. Southern Indiana is a mess. I-70 is the dividing line they're saying for central Indiana.

I don't know how southern Ohio is doing. On our maps, they put the Cincinnati area in the same bracket as south of I-70 in Indy, which is 9-12" of snow with ice.

I have a friend who was stuck in Evansville last night (west of Louisville in southern Indiana). She's posting pictures of the highways while her husband drives them home. They're sticking to the highways, and so far the highways are a mess. She said they were going 25-30 mph because they were still covered with snow.

Oh no!!! Thanks! It's not looking good. Hope your friend makes it back safely!
