Winn Dixie or Super WalMart?

Which is a better choice for us? We'll have a large group to shop for ( pretty much buying 2 of everything, roasts, chickens, etc) so cost is a factor. Also have to shop 2 different times, first for a few days in a studio ( will be buying deli meat, breakfast items etc. ) Then a few days later for the big shopping trip for 5 nights at SSR ( for 6 people, all adults ) I've been to both, but with so many trips, can't remember how far from SSR. Just dawned on me I might actually do better at Winn Dixie buying sale items, specials, etc. ?? TIA

If staying at SSR I would say Winn Dixie would be closer. I have enjoyed Winn Dixie over other grocery stores. But Wal Mart has the advantage of the non-grocery items.

We will be using Winn Dixie in November.

Winn Dixie is definitely more convenient! The Walmart is further away. For the discounts at Winn Dixie you need a card, without it you'll pay full price. Enjoy your trip!

It's left of the Cross Roads intersection, about 1 mile 1/2 down, on your right. There's a liquor store in there, Papa Johns, Chinese and an Ice Cream Shop. Also, there's a Walgreens ? across the street on the left.

We used that Winn Dixie for the first time in December (our first full Villa stay). We got the discount card right then, and its in the envelope I keep all our passes in for the next trip. We plan to stop there on the way in as well as pick up a pizza at Papa Johns since we will be getting in around lunchtime.

It's fairly convenient from SSR, and cheaper than the Goodings that's closer. It's probably the closest thing for VWL as well.

Down the other end I haven't explored much, but I believe there is a Publix that would be more convenient. Don't know how much the prices compare - WD seemed reasonable to me at least.

We do our main shopping trip at Wal-Mart simply due to the pricing. For example, we drink a lot of milk and as of today, there is a .55 cent per gallon difference. If we only need a few things, then we go to Winn-Dixie. It's a lot closer and for a few items, I'll pay the price difference instead of the longer drive to W-M. For our main trip though, our family of 6 spends a lot of $$$ since we eat pretty much all of our breakfast, lunch and dinners at our villa so we save money by going to W-M. Winn Dixie is about 1 mile north of the Crossroads Mall, just past the ABC liqour store.

Winn Dixie. That Wal-Mart parking lot always packed with cars scares me!

WD is nice. We keep the card in our Owner's Locker. They have excellent meat and seafood. Quality and price is right. It's never really busy, always clean, and it is very close to SSR. They have good hours and we like to shop late, so I don't feel so bad about grocery shopping on vacay.

Can't beat that ABC liquor, which has excellent prices, is in the same mall.

As a local, I agree completely. Pubix is far superior to Winn Dixie.

We just returned from a trip to OKW. I usually go to Winn Dixie(I even have the time marked in my trip schedule), but we took another family with us that needed things other than food(lithium batteries, etc.), so we found ourselves at the "scary Walmart" on a Sunday evening. OMG!!! The place was not only packed, but the shelves were BARE! I actually spent more money on items because I had to buy a name-brand, or I just did not get the item at all. They did not have ONE BOX of plain cheerios anywhere in the store. I had planned on spending an hour getting groceries...we actually spent two hours at Walmart...40 minutes of that was in the check-out line! We decided we would never go to that Walmart again!

I always take a detailed list of items I need to Winn Dixie, based on planned menues for the week. I always check the Winn Dixie sales ad online before we leave(their sales run Wednesday-Tuesday), and make my purchases accordingly. I really lucked up last year in June when they were having a Breakfast sale...at least half of my list is breakfast items(we always eat breakfast in the room)!

I have been to Publix before, but it is not as convenient for us, since I always stop at the Olive Garden for a big salad on my way back to OKW from Winn Dixie! My kids actually eat salads, but my son won't unless it's floating in OG dressing. It's now a wierd tradition of ours to have Pizza Hut pizza and Olive Garden salad for dinner the night I get groceries. The rest of the week is a mixture of some dinners in and some dinners out.

when u leave SSR take a R out of resort....then take a L ( most people go right and thu crossroad ) keep straight take a R at end of road and a L at stoplight you will only be a small distance from WD being on your R. Bell services give me the tip to cut down on stoplights and traffic. been using the shortcut for years.......love it. Hope this helps. Oh the ABC store is great for party ware, even if you are having non alcoholic drinks...they have lite up ice cubes, drink umbrellas, plastic ware in colors.....just to let you know, fun stuff.

Publix is the best grocery chain in the area. The stores are clean and bright, the prices are fair (and no card needed for specials), the company is employee owned and there is a good selection of organic and natural products. We shop exclusively at Publix when in Florida.

Another vote for Publix. I was so happy when I found out they sold Boar's Head products.

If you are staying at AKV I would not go to Winn Dixie. I would turn R at the first light out of the AKV parking lot (Sherberth Rd), follow it to 192, and then turn R. You will find a Publix just down the road about 2 to 3 miles on your right. I agree with others that prefer the quality of food at Publix. Their deli is excellent.

Yes In deed. I love AKV too, we will be there in Sept on OKW in Oct. And Winn Dixie will be in our plans too.

You can get it right away as MaryJ said but you can also apply online and they mail it to you. I just did that but I'm not sure how long it takes to get it.

Just checked...it takes 7-10 days in case anyone is interested,
