Are there any wine stores by port canaveral or should We by the wine on one of the stops? the wine looks way too expensive on boat. Also anyone know the latest on corkage fees?

thanks

thank you, thats a great site. Do you know anything about the corkage fees?

thanks again

Are you allowed to keep the wine iced in your room then just bring it with you to dinner?

Different states have different retail laws for alcohol. Some states sell hard liquor in convenience stores... other states require you to go to a liquor store to buy beer.

Florida sells beer and wine in grocery stores with hard liquor removed to liquor stores. As long as your tastes in wine aren't too high-brow, you'll probably be happy with the wine selection at Publix, a grocery store listed on my Space Coast locater map mentioned by mcnuss (thanks).

Dave, does mcnuss get a kickback for all her suggestions to use our website? lol

How much wine (or beer for that matter) are you allowed to bring on board?

Disney, unlike Carnival and perhaps some other cruise lines, does not prohibit passengers from bringing alcohol onboard. Some DISers have reported CM's telling them they can only bring one case of beer... others have had no problems bringing more. It really comes down to, as mcnuss said... 'how much can you carry?'

Nope, no kickbacks for mcnuss, wovenwonder, inkkognito, or anyone else. This is strictly non-profit here!!! I do appreciate the references though.

If they are charging a corkage fee of $15 is it still less expensive to bring your own, if say you enjoy a bottle around $15 (not highbrow I know but just fine all the same), that brings it up to $30. How much is an average bottle on board?
Just trying to decide if we should lug some with us or if the ultimate cost will be about the same.
thanks caren

Hi Caren, we're trying to figure this out too. The wine packages appear to be the best deal, and you get a bottle every night. The "average" package is $145 (a little over $20 a bottle), and seems to be made up of bottles that can be bought from a wine store for $8-$10. The more expensive package costs $265 (about $37.50 per bottle). The wines on that list seem to retail for $15 to $25 per bottle. So, if you like really good wine (and can find it before you get on the ship), the corking fee is the cheaper way to go. I bought a bottle of Beringer Chardonnay locally (it's on the less expensive list) and it's not bad. One variable I'm not sure of, is the tip included in the price of the wine packages? Diana

My DH has become a real wino in the last couple of years so I asked him to look at the list on http://psiklops.brinkster.net/Trips/ShowDoc.aspx?TripDateID=1&DocumentID=15 to tell me if they were decent values. He thinks you'd be hard pressed to do better than the $35 ish per bottle the Premium pkg. offers if you were to buy those wines and pay a corkage fee and a tip. He said, for instance, that the Chateau Mont Redon goes for about $30 locally - and who knew? - we hauled 3 bottles of it back from France last year... Shows you how much attention I paid. Anyway, he also said that generally speaking in a restaurant you will pay about 2x the retail price of a "lower" cost bottle of wine and about 1.5x the cost of a pricier bottle. This is true on land or sea, so DCL's wine prices look fairly in line.

We will likely buy the package as it will make DH very happy. But we will also bring our own on board (probably haul it down there from his stash, can you imagine what his carry-on will weigh??) for in the room.

We took the advice on Dave's site (how can this man stay humble?) and hit the Publix on the way to the port. We filled our rolling cooler with wine, beer, and Coke. I meant to roll it on, but my DW checked it while I was parking the car. Our room steward kept the cooler filled with ice, and brought us a couple of wine glasses (he said he had to ask permission). We just took our "official" glasses with our our wine to dinner with us, and it just looked like we came from the bar.

Dave does a great job on his web site - Now there is an ABC liquor store exalty 2 miles South of the Radisson to which every type of wines, beer and liquor is available - it is my understanding they will even supply a box to carry it all - if you miss Publix on the way to the port - there is a Winn Dixie right on South A1A across from Ron Jon's that carries wine and beer.
Hope this will help those that want to carry their own aboard.
Always
Shirley

What we are planning to do is buy here at home three bottles of the wine we usually drink, wrap them good and put them in our carry on's. I figure if I can bring booze home on the plane than I can bring it there just as easy. This way I don't have to worry about if the local store has the pinot grigio I like. FYI- they did not have that on board available in room service (pinot grigio)-just chardonnay which I don't care for as much. I spent quite a bit on the three bottles I ordered for our cabin last year and will be able to bring three bottles of the wine I love for the price of one of disney's. Ann
