Wine is in the budget... :) Who has some good ideas for wine on a budget? We've tried a few of the box wines and have been pretty happy with it. You can get 3 Litres of a white in a box and it's not bad - for about $19 you get the equivalent of 4 bottles and it stores pretty well.

Haven't tried a red in a box yet...probably won't. Red still has to come in a bottle it seems to me.

Look up a wine called Citra. A good friend of mine's father used to manage (or maybe still does) a swanky restaurant in Manhattan. Citra is about six bucks a bottle or so, and they pretty much sold it for $7/$8 a glass, as I recall.

I kinda like Trader Joe's "Two Buck Chuck" too, if you have one of those near you. Charles Shaw.

Look in the Australian wine section...Jacob's Creek is one that comes to mind.

I prefer better tasting wines but I have been trying to find affordable drinkable wines. Black Box? maeks a decent Cab sav in a box...24.99 for the box but goes on sale for maybe $19! Frontera is a drinkable red too. ditto Citra...I had some the other week!

I think I am going to try some of this wine. Trader Joe's just opened here a week or so ago!:thumbsup2

"Two Buck Chuck" is $3.29 in Virginia, guess we pay the East Coast premium. But I still buy it by the case.

We have found Golden Gate at Albertson's on sale for $3.50 a bottle. If you purchase 6 at the same time, you get another 10% off.

It is 13% alcohol and we like both the red and white. :thumbsup2

When we lived in CA it was $2. It is $3 or so here. I haven't bought any in a while.

My DH buys his wine at Trader Joe's, he likes a Coastal Trader Joe's & a tempranillo from Spain.

wineinsiders.com usually has a $25 for $75 worth of wine floating around. We've used it a couple times and have been really happy. Just google wine insider groupon plus the month and year you're looking for. It should pull up whatever city the groupon is currently in. You can buy from any city - even if it's not your "home" for groupon.

My fav wine is from the cupcake vineyard. Red velvet is a blend of reds. It very light and very good. My local store sells it for about $8 a bottle.

Let me guess- Charleston? We're still waiting for one in Cola! I was there when yours opened, even have some opening day pics. It was a madhouse! But yes, they're wine is delicious and quite affordable :thumbsup2

World Market has a lot of wines, and so does Sam's Club.

We have a love of German wine, and the least expensive one we have found that we like is about $17 a bottle. I can relate to wishing for somehting less expensive!! Our favorites are $25 - $30 per bottle, so those aren't something we drink all the time.

Also at Trader Joes there is Merlot Called Purple Moon that is good.

Whole Foods and budget are rarely used in the same sentence but they have a very drinkable little red for 2.79 a bottle. When it goes on sale i get more.

I'm not sure where you are located but we have a local winery, Brown County Winery, that has THE best red we have ever tasted and if you buy a case it's $6.95 a bottle. I'm not sure which states they ship to. Vista Red (our favorite) tastes exactly like Rosa Regale without the fizz. :thumbsup2

I don't like boxed wine but The Black Box Cab is very good:thumbsup2 I believe they get their Cab from the California Central Coast wine region. The reds from the central coast area are usually pretty good!!

I second Brown County Winery. My husband and I picked up a case on the way to Chicago last year.

we are not fans of most reds, but do like wines from Cupcake and Barefoot. I can usually find them for around $5-6.
