Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend 2022 (Nov. 3-6, 2022)

Memory Maker clarification:

I'm planning on purchasing a PhotoPass One Day Memory Maker for the Half. From my understanding, I can add 5 bibs to it for the race. Will it also include any pictures taken at the After Race Party that evening? Do I tap my RFID card to link to the account?
I've never purchased memory maker but this is my understanding. You purchase it for Sunday and that would include any park pictures plus the 5 bibs.

Without oversharing, I'm not going to be able to run (or be on my feet too much at all) this past week and next. That leaves only the 2 wks leading up to W&D weekend to get my legs back to it. We're running the 10k not the half, thank goodness, but I know I'm going to lose a lot of muscle memory and endurance over these 2 weeks. Any tips on how to best retrain myself during the 2 wks before the race? I'd been following Galloway, doing intervals, had a great powerwalk during my walk interval. But 2 wks of not getting to move around much is gonna stink. In my mind, I'll be almost back to square 1 with just 2 wks to make up. Any tips from anyone that's been in this boat? Worst case scenario we powerwalk a just under 16 min mile to get some pics in and not get swept but after training diligently, I'd like to make a go at being a little more competitive with myself than trying to walk the entire thing. All advice welcome! Still VERY excited just to be back at Disney and feel the energy on the course!!

I don't think you're going to lose nearly as much endurance as you think. The studies I've seen online suggest you'll only lose 7-10% of your endurance (as measured by VO2Max) from 2 weeks of down time. It takes months of inactivity to get back to "square one". The general rule of thumb with an injury is to back up a week in your training plan for every week off when you come back. Without more specifics, it's hard to suggest more than taking those 2 weeks prior to race weekend getting back into the groove, but not push it too hard. I think you're going to be fine and will be surprised at how little capability you've actually lost.

Are you 100% restricted on activity or can you do non-weight bearing? If you need to stay off your feet, are biking or aqua jogging options? They are great options to keep you conditioned - and sane.

THIS. I messed up my ankle a year and a half ago at baseball practice and ended up not being able to do any of my training runs leading up to my half and was still able to complete it without too much of an issue.

If you're really worried about it on race-day, get as far forward in your corral as you can and give yourself as much buffer as possible.

Apples & Oranges but in 2018 about a week before wine & dine we went through some personal issues that derailed our normal training (ill fitting work out attire while using an unfamiliar hotel treadmill though was at least better than nothing) and managed to do the 10k fine (we got to a place where it was a case of we are comfortable so wait for this character or see if there was someone else further down the line… we decided to wait and see but no further characters shockingly caused us to set a pr)

You've received lots of good advice so far. You're not going to lose all of your fitness. You may need to adjust your pace or goals, but all the other training you did will still be there.

The most important thing now is to get to the start line healthy. Don't try to make up for lost time. Ease yourself back into it and see how you feel.

Thanks everyone. That was very encouraging. I've definitely adjusted my expectations. I'm just feeling restless right now so close to the race and needing to stay off my leg for a week. It's going to be amazing no matter what!! Can't believe it's only 23 days till race weekend. I remember back in March feeling like it would take forever and here we are!

This is true! I had a super bad case of covid in August 2021, about 6 weeks before my first half marathon. I didn't run (or get out of bed much) for 2 weeks, and eased back in slowly when I returned. I was shocked at how quickly I was able to get back on my regular training program. I suggest you ease back in as well, and if all feels right, keep the same training schedule in the last 2 weeks if you can. You'll be fine!

Just got an email today from Disney that as of 10/18 the price for a lightsaber at Savi's is increasing to $249.99 (doesn't matter when you made your Savi's reservation). Just thought I'd drop that in here in case that is part of anyone else's W&D weekend trip (it is for us)....so budget a little extra if you were planning to get a lightsaber.

Not cool...they SHOULD honor the original price for those that had a reservation made prior to the increase. Sadly, they'll still get their $$$ if you cancel the res, since someone else will pick it up.

It is now official that this will be a quick solo weekend for me and the family vacation will be in December. I have two party tickets I paid for I'd like to sell if anyone needs extras for friends/family. PM me and we can come to some price lower than Disney if you are interested.

I thought the same but you are correct! No reason for them to honor the price at the time of reservation, we are proof....it is my daughters bday gift so we're going to do it anyway but it is a big jump in price all at once!

I received today another update for park hours around W&D. MK will be closing at 11 pm...
Magic Kingdom Closing Time changed from 10:00 PM to 11:00 PM

Because I usually go with my kids, we have never stayed in the parks past 9pm. We're always early risers/early sleepers. Since MK is my park day on Monday before I fly back on the Tuesday (and the fact that I'm solo!), I might try just this once a late entry and stay until closing at 11pm.

Has anyone ever gone from the parks directly to a race? Not my intention at all, just curious.

In 2019 when the 5K was November first the pre race DJ asked “how many of you just took a power nap in your car after the Halloween party” there were at least a dozen hands raised

I ran the W&D half back in 2016. We went to MK the night before the race and we stayed all day 9am till park close which was midnight with the 2 evening extra magic hours. By the time we got back to our resort it was 1am. We did get lucky and that night was the end of daylight savings time so we did get an extra hour of sleep. Still, it wasn't much sleep considering how early you have to get on the bus. BUT we had a great time, didn't set any records but def didn't get swept, got all the character and mile post photos we wanted and even had time for a potty stop in AK! There is a lot to be said for race day adrenaline!!!!

Wow! I could maybe see doing an all-nighter before the 5K, but before the half is impressive (and/or crazy 😄😄)
