Wine and Dine 2015

Does anyone else get "twitchy" legs? I don't know if it is running specific but it drives me crazy! I thought it was from not drinking enough water but I'm very hydrated. Haven't had a lot of sodium today either. I'd love to know what causes it but right now I'd love to know how to make it stop! :(

I have only had this problem when my electrolytes were low. There are other causes, but it is usually a combination of a lengthy or very hard exercise session combined with low electrolytes.

They should stop on their own if you take in enough fluids and electrolytes.

Have you cut out coffee recently? You should slowly wean yourself off of coffee. (I mention unicorns first.)

Do you have any food cravings? Indulge yourself a little!

You have stopped running because of injury, right? Cold turkey changes can result in throwing off the balance. Go for a walk if you can't run. (sidebar: That's why I like a longish (5-6 mile) run this weekend as we taper.)

The electrolytes are table salt (sodium chloride), potassium, magnesium and calcium.
Most of us are getting enough sodium chloride and potassium, magnesium and calcium maybe not so much.

You'll be right as rain with bananas and yogurt... You need Vitamin D to absorb calcium, most of our milk is supplemented with Vitamin D. Fewer days in the sun can push us into Vitamin D deficiency.

Don't go out and supplement with magnesium alone. Just nudge things a little. The body will eliminate excess or perceived excess.
Nunn active has all four of the above electrolytes. Rolaids Extra has magnesium and calcium salts. Here again, one tablet might be helpful many is bad...

sources of magnesium - bananas , leafy green veggies, avocados, dried seaweed, nuts

I ran in 75 degree temperature 70 % humidity last night on a little race pace test. I will likely need to slow my best race pace 30 seconds per mile. It's totally bearable for someone acclimated. You just need to take the edge off your effort. Many people treat this as a run party, not a race anyway, so it should be pretty good if we see about 75 or cooler.

Near term forecast for Kissimmee predicts 89, 90, 90 degree highs for Sun., Mon., Tues. That could mean 82-84 degree race start temps. If we see that on Nov. 7, it will present problems for many. It's still way too early to tell. I would bring a cool costume/outfit as a backup. I have a feeling it's going to be hot at race start.

I found a weather site that has predicted Jet Stream and surface winds and temp images:
http://www.weatherstreet.com/states/gfsx-300-forecast.htm

This. Plus, always tack on a couple extra degrees for being at the parks themselves because of all the concrete and asphalt.

The low for Saturday is only 66 right now with a slight breeze, so pretty much how it's been for the past couple of days. I'll be interested to see if it gets any cooler once the clocks change and the sun starts setting at 5:30 or so.

Just wanted to say that I think everyone here is awesome! ONE WEEK! I'm super excited. Last long run of 10 is in the books. DH and I did a late afternoon run (as close to night as we can get) and it wasn't terrible, 10:13/mile. It wasn't fun eating a bagel for lunch but do what ya gotta do, right?

ONE WEEK!!!

Also running solo, also in E...see you there!

PaDisneyCouple, there were so many gems in your post I wasn't sure which to save first! My first runDisney race was this year's DDD and I don't think I will EVER forget running from backstage into Cars Land as "Life is a Highway" started playing on my headphones. Your suggestion about the last mile is great!

Car to the airport arrives in about 3.5 hours, gotta go. See you guys at Disney!!

Last "long" run done... 4.25 miles this morning. It mostly felt awful except the flat parts... that sounds about right for a last long run for me. :) I was convinced I was totally out of shape and never going to finish based on that terrible run the weekend before Tink. Of course the fact that Thursday's run was about 72 and 75-80% humidity and then this morning's was 29 degrees and I had to put on my full winter gear might have also had something to do with it. :) I mainly was just COLD. I'll do ~2.5 on Tuesday and then my shakeout on Thursday at POFQ.

I think I've said this before, but I love you.:lovestruc Lol (don't get jealous @flatlandcycle :P)

Seriously, you always just post things that I'm thinking around the same time I'm thinking them. I was considering a short run tomorrow but after yesterday's run I have been thinking suddenly that I'm horribly under trained and will not make it, etc. Thanks for reminding me that this is normal, and other people go through it too!

Anyone else a Fitbit wearer? I was so super excited to see my biggest number ever after a morning of walking the parks and then the race. But I realized that at midnight it will reset so it won't get the whole race on one day

My running setup - Fitbit Flex on right wrist, Garmin 620 on left wrist, chest HRM, Nike app running on iphone in SPIbelt with Pandora 80s Rock station playing...

Good point on Fitbit reset at midnight unless I keep it on PST setting (or run REALLY fast!)

Wrapping up runs before heading to Orlando this Thursday. Did 6.46 miles in 57:02 (8:50 pace) this morning 65 degrees and 35% humidity. Plan another tomorrow and then probably 5k at AKV when we arrive to acclimate to temp/humidity.

Good luck to all in your last few runs/taper and we're just a week away!!!

You just exactly described my run today that I just finished. 4.5 miles, uncomfortable unusual cold weather running clothes (of course too many so I was actually hot- good training?) plus a side cramp, and generally felt like I am going to do THIS for 13 miles? It was not good psychologically but I also tend to have bad runs right before races hopefully that's what this was. I started to pack right before I went out and I hate packing even more so for race cations so my head was not in a good place. I'm so glad to hear someone else had a not great run bc I can say to YOU - you will be fine next week! Trust your training and have fun! (Which I can't seem to say to myself)

For me in NH, the 29 degree one today was more the norm and the 72 one was way unseasonable. :)

But you will be fine, too! We will all be fine! ;)

My wife looked me right in the eye and said "Crazy Running Mommy needs to get on a plane."

Why on earth would she say that? I took it to mean go out and run in the 85 degree heat with your Bluto costume on. So I did. I made a bunch of people happy except for that guy in a beater-truck who called me a pile of sticks. hmmm?

DW hit the track today, and did 5k in 35:32. I hit the local rail trail, and did 6.3 miles in an hour. Beautiful morning. 31 degrees, calm winds, no clouds. Some tightness at the end, but stretching has helped that. A hot air balloon took off near the trail, and sailed over it as I started.

Question of the day: what music or podcast did you listen to on today's run?
DW: live marching band at the stadium doing their warm up
me: A mix of Jimmy Buffet, Pink Floyd, and more.

Just my Apple Music radio station that is seeded with a David Guetta song. So it's mostly EDM type stuff. :)

I did a local 5k this morning. Finished in 39:29 -- I was aiming to finish in 35 minutes but I wanted to stick with my husband who realized this morning that he is woefully undertrained for Wine & Dine. Should be interesting to see how quickly we finish next week. It did serve as a good test run for my costume and it worked well!

DH and I are doing the Wine & Dine together but his training has also not been going well. Some is from injury but he just doesn't seem to have the desire in him. I keep telling him and myself that it's fine, we will do whatever he can do and how much fun we will have. But part of me, probably the part that has been out doing long runs really wants to see what I can do and really try and do my best for the race. I really dont want to split up, we signed up for this to do it together in our favorite place and I can't imagine going through the Osbourne lights without him but I've trained awfully hard to walk half of this thing! There is a local 1/2 a month after W&D and as much as I want to be done with training next week if it doesn't go well race day I may have to sign myself up just to prove that I can do a 1/2 for real!

No run for me today. I caught up on sleep instead. But I'm doing 5 tomorrow and will listen to my comedy podcasts. It's always a fun sensation to laugh while running. ;)

I can't believe we'll be at Disney in 1 WEEK getting ready to run our race!!!
