Wine and Dine 2015

DH and I are doing the Wine & Dine together but his training has also not been going well. Some is from injury but he just doesn't seem to have the desire in him. I keep telling him and myself that it's fine, we will do whatever he can do and how much fun we will have. But part of me, probably the part that has been out doing long runs really wants to see what I can do and really try and do my best for the race. I really dont want to split up, we signed up for this to do it together in our favorite place and I can't imagine going through the Osbourne lights without him but I've trained awfully hard to walk half of this thing! There is a local 1/2 a month after W&D and as much as I want to be done with training next week if it doesn't go well race day I may have to sign myself up just to prove that I can do a 1/2 for real!

I feel the same way. Part of the problem is that my husband gets most of his motivation from me and I've been doing my long runs early (in Florida you pretty much have to) and his sleep schedule is super messed up so he doesn't usually go to sleep until 1-3 a.m. so he's not keen on getting up at 7 a.m. for a run. Upside being that staying awake for the race next week should be super easy for him! We do walk/run intervals so we'll be walking half of it anyways :rotfl: but based on today I think our walk intervals are going to have to be longer than I would like. I'm still trying to decide if I want to sign up for another half after Wine & Dine. What corral are ya'll in?

Question of the day: what music or podcast did you listen to on today's run?
DW: live marching band at the stadium doing their warm up
me: A mix of Jimmy Buffet, Pink Floyd, and more.

Didn't listen to anything today since I was talking to my husband throughout the run but last week for my long run I was listening to "The Martian" audiobook. I love that book, made the time go quickly!

I might do another half 2 weeks after W&D to qualify for Half Fanatics... I'm not sure. I'll see how I feel after the race. :) I did a half 2 weeks ago but it is too far away from W&D to qualify.

I have only had this problem when my electrolytes were low. There are other causes, but it is usually a combination of a lengthy or very hard exercise session combined with low electrolytes.

They should stop on their own if you take in enough fluids and electrolytes.

Have you cut out coffee recently? You should slowly wean yourself off of coffee. (I mention unicorns first.)

Do you have any food cravings? Indulge yourself a little!

You have stopped running because of injury, right? Cold turkey changes can result in throwing off the balance. Go for a walk if you can't run. (sidebar: That's why I like a longish (5-6 mile) run this weekend as we taper.)

The electrolytes are table salt (sodium chloride), potassium, magnesium and calcium.
Most of us are getting enough sodium chloride and potassium, magnesium and calcium maybe not so much.

You'll be right as rain with bananas and yogurt... You need Vitamin D to absorb calcium, most of our milk is supplemented with Vitamin D. Fewer days in the sun can push us into Vitamin D deficiency.

Don't go out and supplement with magnesium alone. Just nudge things a little. The body will eliminate excess or perceived excess.
Nunn active has all four of the above electrolytes. Rolaids Extra has magnesium and calcium salts. Here again, one tablet might be helpful many is bad...

sources of magnesium - bananas , leafy green veggies, avocados, dried seaweed, nuts

Thanks! I will try these suggestions. I don't drink coffee. And I bought some bananas today. :)

I did a local 5k this morning. Finished in 39:29 -- I was aiming to finish in 35 minutes but I wanted to stick with my husband who realized this morning that he is woefully undertrained for Wine & Dine. Should be interesting to see how quickly we finish next week. It did serve as a good test run for my costume and it worked well!

My 5k this morning did get cancelled due to pouring rain and lightning. So I just did 3 miles at home with a 13:03 average so I was happy. Haven't run since my 10k 2 weeks ago due to my ankle so I was very happy with that time. And I ran in my costume. Not a single car passed me but I did have a bunch of dogs go crazy barking at me! I think it was the hat lol. And it was 67 with 97% humidity so was a good practice run. DD25 and I are planning a night run on Thursday night so we can run in the dark and she can get used to the humidity.

And I didn't listen to anything but the dogs barking lol.

Good luck to everyone running! I've been reading along with everything preparing for next year's wine & dine, which will be my first half. Two friends and I decided back in the spring to do it next year. So far I've done two 5k's and am training for a 10k in December. You all have been helpful with that and all the great information you post. I'm looking forward to participating in the 2016 race thread :)

My running mix typically comes from the Rock my Run app. *checks phone for details*

I generally almost always start with Cosmic Strides, which is 30 minutes. I usually play that twice. That generally takes me up to about the 10k distance- unless the mix is pacing to my HR, which makes the mixes about 24 or 25 minutes long vs 30. Then I switch to a long mix (60-120 minutes). That mix depends on my mood. I start with Cosmic Strides because it's a true trance style house with no words. It helps me get into the zone. By the time I've listened to it twice I'm ready for wordy music. Mostly I run to dance/house, dubstep, or hip hop. I don't actually listen to much hip hop IRL, but the mixes on Rock my Run tend to be dance-y so they keep me in the mood. That last 2-3 miles if I need it, I switch to Apple Music and listen to Pitbull (who can't shake their booty to his stuff??) and Mark Ronson's Uptown Funk. That usually gets me to the end.

Hey, did we ever figure out if the NB shoes will be at the expo or not? Usually I thought they at least mention it and there's been not a peep....

I certainly hope so! I'm dying to get a pair. It doesn't look like they're going to have any new designs, though, since I'm pretty sure they revealed the Tinks and Donalds a couple weeks before Tink weekend and Disneyland weekend.

I running solo in G. I'm more concerned with the after party because I'm drinking solo and I'm a light weight. Point me to the Pop bus stop at the end of the night please. LOL
I'm going to be solo in G as well. My sister is running as well, but she'll be a few corrals back.

I almost signed up for the Celebration full instead of the half so I can qualify as a Marathon Maniac, then I saw that the full is basically running the same loop twice and there's not that many running the full compared to the half and I wimped out and only signed up for the half.Maybe it's not that big a deal to me to be a Marathon Maniac but even so I'll have second thoughts about it,in fact right now I'm thinking I may not have too many shots at Marathon Maniac,Half Fanatic yeah,I do plenty of halfs but not that many fulls,I'm wondering if they'll let me switch from the half to the full?

Hello,

Well no running here this weekend, very bad weather. Looks like a date with the treadmill tomorrow!

Question that's probably already been asked, what exactly is open during the after party? Since we won't be visiting parks during this short trip, we're looking to ride at least Soarin and TT...

Tks!

I'm wondering this- but even worse- what if you're running Princess AND Tink after? at that point should I just keep cycling between reverse tapers? For me, my body holds endurance well. I won't lie; I could not run for 3 weeks and still go out and run about 8-10 miles first time back with minimal time loss and little to no endurance loss (ie my body will go at least that far without going '***, why are we doing this?') so I don't know that running 3x a week will be as important as maybe just making sure I get a long run in there? I'm just also trying to be realistic and worry about training burnout; which I'm ALREADY at. Trying to keep this training mentality up for the next 5 or so months? that's going to be the real endurance challenge :rotfl:

I'm running Glass Slipper and I'm already worried about being burned out, because I feel a little burned out already. I've already decided that I'll be taking a break from any halves for a while after Princess weekend and will change up my workout routine. I'll still run, but probably nothing over 6. We're also facing military retirement next summer and moving so I know that will greatly impact signing up for races and training.

Don't forget to pack your phone charger or Garmin charger. Don't want a dead battery during the race. SOP for us is to charge overnight prior to race day.

When my Garmin died on my run Saturday I must have told myself a million times don't forget to pack the chargers so this doesn't happen at the race!

Good point on Fitbit reset at midnight unless I keep it on PST setting (or run REALLY fast!)

I think I'll likely just leave my Garmin VivoFit off for the race so I don't have to deal with it. I only get an hour leeway anyways, and I'll have to move it to EST or it will drive me batty!

No run for me today. I caught up on sleep instead.

Sleep? What is this sleep you speak of? Between kids, dogs and husbands I haven't been getting a lot of it lately.

Photo from our 5k yesterday; the only thing I couldn't find in time was a mask (found one a few hours after the race of course XD). Can't wait to wear my costume for Wine & Dine!

My Dh and I started ToT in 2013 in hopes of going the distance together. I was adequately trained, him, not so much. We made an agreement as the corrals started moving that we would stick it out together. At mile 1, he knew it wasn't going to be a good run for him and he urged me to move on solo and "run my race" it took a little coaxing, but by mile 2, I was solo and kicking asphalt. I looked for him every time the road passed comers and goers trying to see if he gave in and jumped on a bus. I felt guilty and contemplated getting on a bus to find him....and then I started getting his split notifications from the runner tracking. I realized then, we each needed to run our own race and splitting was the best thing we could have done. I felt like he needed my motivation... but he felt like he was holding me back. Anyways, my advice is this... go in with a plan, but know that raceday can change it in an instant and it's ok. But, more importantly, be honest with each other about your goals. Oh, and above all, HAVE FUN!

I running solo in G. I'm more concerned with the after party because I'm drinking solo and I'm a light weight. Point me to the Pop bus stop at the end of the night please. LOL

We may all need tags with our hotels on them to get us home!

Also running solo, also in E...see you there!

PaDisneyCouple, there were so many gems in your post I wasn't sure which to save first! My first runDisney race was this year's DDD and I don't think I will EVER forget running from backstage into Cars Land as "Life is a Highway" started playing on my headphones. Your suggestion about the last mile is great!

Car to the airport arrives in about 3.5 hours, gotta go. See you guys at Disney!!
So, does anyone want to do a Solo (or DISers... I'm not trying to exclude anyone) meet up at the start? or after party?
