Wine and Dine 2015

Physical Therapy doesn't include a 13.1 miler but a taper is pretty close. You could spell the alphabet with your toes if want to get closer...

... And still veering off course...!

Just wanted to thank the OP's who mentioned medals4mettle!
I am always awed by the people who think up things like this, or beads of courage, a similar type of program the sort of "documents " a child's course of treatment for life threatening or difficult illness with different colored beads, including hand crafted ones.

Impressive organizations, impressive people, impressive kids!!

Sending healing thoughts for all illness/injury challenged runners:crutches:
May the force be with you all!.....
Oh,
Wrong race....!

:rotfl2:

Still......sending the force!!

Okay guys I have an issue. I threw up after running today. It was just shy of three miles nothing crazy. Just to be really icky it was all water.

In the yearish I've been running ive NEVER thrown up.

I had some wine the night before. Would that do it?

I'm concerned because I don't normally have any tummy troubles at all.

The only time I've ever thrown up while running was on a really cold day and it burned really badly in my chest which led to me getting sick. I was fine after and it's never happened again.
One of my training runs that was particularly humid I came close but managed to get through it.
I wouldn't worry too much about it, may have been the wine. I have stayed completely away from alcohol the last of couple of months because it definitely messes with me and my running.

I am freaking out a little bit. My DS17 has been sick for a few days and stayed home yesterday. He texted me from school asking me to make him a doctors appt because a couple of his lacrosse teammates have mono and they were all drinking out of the same water bottles! I am so afraid of getting sick at this point and seriously hope he has not brought this home. I take him to get checked at 2:15. Fingers crossed, I may need to get him a bubble for his room if he does have it!

I have very blister prone feet. For every long run, I use New Skin (buy at Walmart in the band aid aisle. Its a liquid bandage) on all spots that are possible hot spot areas and on the tops of my toes at the toenail area and around the sides where the toes would rub against each other. I then body glide all over the bottom and ball of my feet, the top of my feet at the base of my toes, both inside and outside of the foot and around the ankle. I wear Injinji socks for running. Last year after W&D I had NOT ONE blister!!! I was wearing my Mizuno wave riders and there were some deep puddles I ended up in but my shoes would drain out quickly and thankfully my feet survived unscathed.

I have Mizunos too but have only run in the rain once with them. And there weren't many puddles so they really didn't even get that wet. So this is good to hear! Except I am still holding out for clear skies :)

If I did not finish (a fear rampaging through my head during the last week due to the discomfort): I would take the medal. It would become a source of inspiration to me.

In 2013 I ran the jingle jungle 5k as my first race. I had 0 desire to do a distance race. But I bought a half wine glass for some reason, and it has become my inspiration to do this race. I have done other distance races since, but this one feels particularly special as a result. Like I am competing something I set out to do 2 years ago. I am going to buy a 2015 half wine glass to keep them side by side!

Yeah that's how I found out they were having issues with DME being sent out. Mine had been sent twice previously this would have been the third try. Granted they still have a week to get here, but I'm not feeling optimistic. It's honestly just me being lazy and not wanting to deal with baggage claim.

I called them on the 19th and mine were resent, I had them in about 3-4 days I think. I would try again!!

What is everyone running for the rest of this week and next? I did 6 today. I was thinking about 8 on Sunday and maybe 4 Tuesday. My DBF was sick this weekend and couldn't do the 11 we had scheduled. I told her that if she can't get another long run in by Thursday, then just do a couple small runs. I don't want her to not fully recover and try to push herself.

I am still feeling a tight IT today :( So no running for me until Saturday, when I will probably just do a mile or two to test the waters. If it is ok, next week I will do a 3, 4, and 1 just to stay loose. If it is still a problem...well heaven help me, here we go again dragging a leg behind me!

I am thinking about ordering this case for the race.. I'm not planning on listening to music but I want my phone to take pictures. Anyone use this or have any opinions?

I don't know that this will help you at this point, but, I bought a pair of lululemon running tights for this race and their new ones have TONS of pockets! I mean more than any human needs, pockets. And the iphone6 fits really easily, even in a phone case, into the leg pocket. It is open (but my phone doesnt move) so it is really easy to grab the phone.

Did you feel any hangover symptoms before the run? If not, I would lean towards that not being it. The only time I have felt sick was in extreme heat, when I pushed myself in speed work without eating/drinking, or when I was actually sick :(

I'm actually running our local half marathon on Sunday. Not ideal since that means no real taper before W&D, but we take our Disney races pretty easy, so not too worried about that.

I have a different brand, but a very similar case. I've run with it several times and liked it a lot. The rubber case made it easy to hold and the strap held it firmly enough that I didn't really have to grip the phone much for it to stay put. This is the one I have.

Oh no. Hoping it's not mono and that you stay healthy!!

@flvy
The alcohol and the sugars in wine could upset the gut's bacterial balance, along with pre-race nerves. Plain lowfat yogurt with active cultures is my go to cure-all. Absent of appendix pain, blood or bile(green) color you'll be fine. Drinking too fast, it could be anything??? Maybe a saltine and 8 oz. of water before a run would help.

@cyndiloveswalt
hopefully it's not mono; and why mono when it tends to include everyone? Most adults already have been exposed and have resistance.

That path to PO-Riverside has some of the nicest landscaping at the mouse; it's a good place to get a shakeout run. There's a 0.7 mile loop.
POFQ and Riverside have the new balance running trail things. When you check in the map they give you will have them marked, and the'll be signs. It's a nice run from one resort to the other and back. I think that loop is around 3 miles. I could be wrong though. I'm trying to remember from when I was there in May. There were LOTS of morning runners though.
Thanks guys! That sounds great, I'll do a shakeout run there on Thursday night. :)

Update on me. Finished the 3-day course of Cipro and the UTI is gone (yay!). Unfortunately, I woke up last Friday with terrible tenderness on the top of my right foot. It hurt to even put a sock on. Since I have never had this before and had been on Cipro, I called my doctor and he was able to see me that afternoon. Diagnosis was "probably tendonitis". He couldn't say for sure that the Cipro caused it (he said it would be unusual in such a short course, especially since I didn't do any strenuous activities). It certainly didn't feel like any case of tendonitis I've ever had in the past. So, I've been on rest and Aleve since then to try and bring down the inflammation. It's much better now, and at this point my plan is still to run the race, but I'm not going to be in as good shape as I had hoped. If my foot feels okay tomorrow, I'll probably try out a short, very easy run to see how things go.

Those magnolia seed pods, from under waxy leaves, staring up at me with those beady red eyes, are usually the culprit.
Up here in NH, my fall running hazards are: tree nuts and apples. :) The last month or so, there are so many acorns and walnuts and fallen apples (both crab apples and full size ones) all over the edges of the roads I run on. Thankfully I have not had an accident with one yet! KNOCK KNOCK!

Oh god...the acorns make me so paranoid of rolling an ankle.

Checking the weather since ITS SO CLOSE!!!

Looks like rain in Orlando for wed/thur/fri. Hopefully not Saturday? All we can do is hope!

I had the same pain a while back. People on here said it was probably extender tendonitis, possibly caused by lacing my shoes too tight. I changed to a "ladder" lacing pattern that doesn't allow the laces to tighten too much on the painful area and for a while kept my shoes pretty loosely tied and the pain went away. Since I have changed to that lacing pattern in my running shoes I haven't had the pain again. It was pretty painful but icing it did help also. I could run with that pain (unlike the Achillies Tendonitis). Hope it feels better! And yay on the UTI being gone lol! :)

I hear Buckeyes are quite fierce, well at least poison.

Having java browser shockwave bbs trouble

Have you tried skip-hole-lacing. The goal is to avoid having your laces cross the area of most pain. My old transition-ready shoes were laced with elastic from jo-anne's.

Yeah, I had extensor tendonitis in the other foot :rolleyes2 this past May from lacing too tight. I guess that was just one of the tendons, though, and this is inflammation of all of them. I will be re-lacing my shoes to a ladder pattern, though. Did that Monday night on the problem foot for my bowling shoes and it worked out well.

Hrm, maybe I will pick one of these up. Before I got into longer distances, I used to run with an Amphipod HandPod because I hated having it on my upper arm, and this was also before I got my Garmin, so I wanted to be able to see my RunKeeper app while I was running. But then as the distances got longer and I had to carry a water bottle, the phone moved to my SPIbelt because I use one of the Nathan handheld bottles.

I was going to bring the bottle for the race, but maybe I will just make do with the water on the course like I did for Tink. I don't have any pictures of the race from Tink because that Amphipod case is great for just strapping it to your hand, but it's a generic shaped case, so there's no opening for the camera.
