Wine and Dine 2015

What is everyone running for the rest of this week and next? I did 6 today. I was thinking about 8 on Sunday and maybe 4 Tuesday. My DBF was sick this weekend and couldn't do the 11 we had scheduled. I told her that if she can't get another long run in by Thursday, then just do a couple small runs. I don't want her to not fully recover and try to push herself.

I did 14 on Saturday- probably 6 tomorrow 8 on Saturday - then maybe 4 on Wednesday or Thursday since I get into Florida Wednesday and want a warm weather night run to acclimate

Did 11 miles Saturday, 5 miles Sunday, 10k (6.2 miles) today. Will do 8 miles Thursday, 11-12 miles on Saturday, 10k Sunday, and 5k Thursday night when we get to Florida to adjust to humidity and evening heat. 5k Sat morning through AK will be second warmup for W&D half that night - and part of the Dopey Castaway Rebel Coast-to-Coast Challenge prep for Jan.

Jumping in for those runners who aren't preparing for dopey or who may just not run that high a volume. My running plans for the next week are: i ran 12 last weekend, kick boxing monday, and ran 3 last night.
Ill do a 2 mile walk today, 3 mile run tomorrow, fri rest, 4-5 mi run sat, 2 mi walk Sunday, 3 mi run Tuesday. No more long runs for me... At least that's the plan. I have a lot on my to do list for tonight so the walk might not happen....

I am thinking about ordering this case for the race.. I'm not planning on listening to music but I want my phone to take pictures. Anyone use this or have any opinions?

I don't like to hold anything while I run so I wouldn't like it. But one of my good friends can't run without holding something so who knows?

I am planning on 3-4 miles today or tomorrow, 4-5 miles Sunday and then one more 3-4 next Tuesday or Wednesday. That will be it for me. Looking forward to getting back to 3-5 mile runs which I actually enjoy!

I ran a 5K race last Saturday at a race effort. My plans for this week and next:

Mon - spin
Tue - forgot to do anything? meant to run for ~35 min
Wed - spin
Thu - run for ~45 min
Sat - ~5 miles
Mon - spin
Tue - run for ~35 min
Wed - spin
Thu - TRAVEL! I was going to do a short 30 min run before I leave but maybe I will do a shakeout run when I get to FL? Is there a good place to run at POFQ?

Looking forward to getting back to a soft couch, a cold beer, a canister of Pringles, and Star Trek reruns; I mean, running 3-5 mile runs.

My foot/ankle is still bothering me so I am doing a 5k Saturday (test run in my costume!) and maybe a short run on Thursday evening after we arrive so DD25 can acclimate to the humidity. I hope I am ready. :)

POFQ and Riverside have the new balance running trail things. When you check in the map they give you will have them marked, and the'll be signs. It's a nice run from one resort to the other and back. I think that loop is around 3 miles. I could be wrong though. I'm trying to remember from when I was there in May. There were LOTS of morning runners though.

As for me I'm keeping it easy. My longest run will be 4 miles this weekend with some time on the bike in between. Just keeping my legs awake and in the game. Next wed should be my last run before my flight down.

I am also wearing my running costume to work on Friday for our Fall Festival. I work at a residential facility for developmentally disabled adults so we are "encouraged" to dress up for every holiday. It makes the residents happy. :) I figured if I can wear it all day (including the Minnie hat), I can make it 3 hours for W&D. :)

Well, since we've started the topic of the "R" word (I refuse to say it...) does anyone have any recommendations of good "water proof" socks or other "keep your feet dry" ideas? Just in case.... I plan to take a small body glide with me and I always pack a hat in case, but the feet part is what makes me nervous. I can deal with being cold, wet, or hot. Blisters and pain, not so much....
FL runner here, who runs in the rain a LOT... forget it; you're never going to keep your feet dry. Even if you somehow managed to block out any rain/puddles, you're going to sweat because it's not cold and dry. I've never done anything special to run through rain (and to qualify that, please let me say that I've run through a named storm and through plenty of "puddles" that went up to mid-shin - so yes, my feet have been plenty wet lol!). I pretty much always apply Vaseline on my feet for distances over 10 miles, just in case, but I've only once in 20+ years had blistering, and that was 100% due to ill-fitted shoes. I wear SmartWool socks, which probably is helpful, but again - that's every run, not just in the rain.

Anyway. Let's just not have rain. Everyone on board with that?
:thumbsup2 +1 for NO RAIN!!!

Confession: I'm a Floridian of 20+ years - so I KNOW how unpredictable weather forecasting can be. But I'm an OCD weather watcher anyway, lol! I will say that watching it regularly helps with understanding how our weather changes down here. Here's the deal: we're pretty well out of daily thunderstorm season at this point, so any time you see a full day of rain, you can assume a "cold" front is moving through. To clarify, these "cold" fronts don't always actually bring cold air: but they generally do bring in drier air and a nice breeze, which makes things feel cooler. Those fronts are driven and steered by the jet stream and Gulf winds and other factors, which change a lot - hence why rain chances change around a lot day by day in the forecast.

So, no - you can't take a forecast out today for next week and assume it's 100% correct. But you also can't assume it's 100% wrong. Last year, we all kept waiting for that rainy forecast to change... it did, but only to go from a 60% chance of rain to 100% chance of rain. For those traveling from afar, it's wise to plan for a number of possibilities: rain, cold, heat. I only live a 2-hour car ride away and won't get there until Fri., when we'll have a pretty good idea of what's in store, but I have in my packing pile a poncho, a mylar blanket (which BTW is great for sitting on in damp grass/asphalt), and a throwaway sweatshirt. To add if needed to my outfit, which is a tank top, Sparkle Skirt, and visor. Layers are your friend :)

I like up-tempo runs for ankle injuries. The body doesn't have a chance to be out of position resulting in compensation injuries on the other side of the body. Are you alternating ice and heat at this point? One 5 gallon bucket with ice water and another with warm-bath-temp water( you may want to rewarm the water half way through.) Alternate 15-20 minutes for about an hour. Advice from one runner to another; if you think it's serious get a medical evaluation.

The dirty little secret is that most of us have some nagging injury at this point. We purchased an upright freezer partially to accommodate therapy ice.(not a joke)

I still haven't had my annual training ankle roll. I've lost count of the times I've run Disney in a McDavid ankle brace. Those magnolia seed pods, from under waxy leaves, staring up at me with those beady red eyes, are usually the culprit.

I am icing 2-3 times a day, but haven't tried alternating it with heat. It isn't too bad - I did a treadmill run Sunday evening, 2 miles at a 16:00mm pace and it bothered me for the first mile, then was fine the second mile. Just after it was sore to walk on. It is such a weird pain. Sometimes it is totally fine and sometimes it really hurts. My Dr. and I aren't speaking right now, lol, as her office is trying to bill me for my free yearly wellness visit (100% covered), so I'm avoiding her until they get it straightened out. But I don't think it needs medical evaluation. :) I'm wearing a Mueller ankle brace on it and only wearing supportive shoes, trying to be proactive. I will probably end up running in the brace too!

Definitely avoid those magnolia seed pods! They are brutal! I live in 100 acre pine forest so I am always on the lookout for pine cones. Even the tiny ones are dangerous!
