At least there are only black bears (which eat berries, not peopleDid anyone else notice the part about BEARS?!?!
). The only real risk is in startling one or coming between a momma bear and her cubs. I see them on the trails every once in a while and have learned to just let them know that I am there. They then generally move into the woods and I can run past.We have puma and lynx here too (though in far fewer numbers), but I have never seen one on a run.
All that said, it is beautiful here and my trail runs are amazing.
We do not even live particularly out in the boonies. About 2 miles south of downtown. I don't usually run in the direction that I know the bears came from except during the day (we saw them at night time).
We also have foxes, coyotes, fisher cats, and moose.
