Wine and Dine 2015

I had to do the first 3 months of Tink training indoors and I got tired of the treadmill and did the indoor track at my gym a few times (17 laps == 1 mile)... that was such a pain to remember how many laps! I remember I filed a feature request with RunKeeper after the first one to put some sort of lap counter mode into the app where you could tap a button to keep track of how many you were on. There's GPS mode, which I was using and it did not really work at all to run in small loops like that, and manual mode, which is just a stopwatch timer, but I wanted to know how far I'd gone.

In the winter while doing PHM training I had to move indoors to my alumni Rec center track. Were talking 10 or 11 laps = 1 mile. I started physically using my hands to count when I hit the corner where I originally started. So I would hold up 1 finger for 1 mile, 5 for miles, etc. the physical act helped.

Well this morning I got up at 7 and ran before work and it was so much better. It was still really humid but it was overcast which really made a difference. Felt fine after.
For those of you training on treadmills, do you feel it prepares you ok for long outside runs? I run on the treadmill in the winter because I do not like running in the cold but it feels so much different for me to actually run outside than it does on a treadmill. I can run on a treadmill forever and its easier on my lungs, etc. I also don't think I ever really get side stitches when I'm on the treadmill like I do when I run outside. For me I don't think I would be physically ready for a half if I did all my training on a treadmill, but maybe it's different for you guys?

Treadmills make me motion sensitive. When I stop it feels like everything is still moving and it takes awhile before it will go away!

I am still undecided on the Christmas party, but we can get the military tickets at the gate so we can decide last minute. I had decided against it, but now I'm leaning towards going.
I decided that we will get one day less on our park hopper and go to the party on Sunday since we'll probably sleep in after the race and then get a late breakfast. Seems like kind of a waste to get a full day of ticket. Of course I hate paying so much for just the party too but at least I won't feel like we're missing out on something we paid for if we didn't get into the parks later in the day on Sunday. ;)

We train indoors and out ... It's so hot in Louisiana currently that our outdoor runs are short (1-3 miles) ... All we do. Basically Maint runs. When it cools, we'll do more and in the mornings we'll try ... But listen to our bodies.

Heat/humidity is nothing to fool with as a runner .. It will win!

Same in South Florida,I avoid doing any outside long runs this time of year, even at night it will wipe you out.I can do multiple weekly runs on the treadmill in my gym of 4-6 miles with no problems as well as do some weight training. If I try and do 4-6 miles outside I'll either be completely drenched in sweat or drenched from a storm coming through, this time of year every time you go out that's what you're risking. The only times I've run outside since April is with my run club, and those are usually no more than 4 miles.I have a challenge race early September, two back to back 5K's in a park that used to be a dump so it's one huge hill that you have to continuously run up and down, they consider that race the start of racing season, after that race is when I know I have to get in gear and start doing some outside longer runs to prepare for my first big race, a half in mid October.

That was my thinking too! I'll have an AP then, but I'm only getting the husband a 4-day FlaResident hopper pass, which he'll mostly use for W&D.

I just thought the party would be a perfect opportunity to get our picture taken with some of the characters in holiday attire with our Disneyland and W&D medals, as well as C2C, for our Christmas card this year.

Yeah, it's a little pricey to spend - but we went to MVMCP back in 2000 when we first started dating and he still has our picture on his desk here at the home office. I thought it would be nice to update that picture, 15 years later.

I also read somewhere that you can also get a party-only MemoryMaker pass for $39.99. I'll probably do that too.

Do they link the race photos with Memory Maker at WDW? Or are those separate? That would be awesome if they just went into your Memory Maker account!

It would be very awesome, but they do not. The race photos are contracted out to a separate company (from whom you will receive emails about your photos until well after the cows come home). Sometimes they are good photos. Sometimes they are crummy ones.

Bummer... it seems like they could sell a lot more Memory Makers if they did. :) I would buy it! :)

@Keels You do get MagicBands for room only. I don't know about Swan/Dolphin though. I just booked one night at All Star Movies for our September family trip (extending our stay one day - rest of trip is off site at Wyndham Bonnet Creek condo) for my September trip with my family and am getting 3 more MagicBands. I'm listing my stepdaughters on the room with me as neither of them have one yet.

We're staying offsite and my parents' house - except for the night of the race. Right now, I have a room on hold at the Swolphin but am still watching in case I can find anything better that's still almost as close (probably impossible) and is not ridiculously expensive (I'm using points for the Swolphin).

I got a decent deal at the Boardwalk from the travel agency that must not be named. Although the inn is not a host resort, the villas are, so there will be busses.

I was looking at the sports tickets, and while still a great deal, since they are cheaper, adding a day isn't the typical $10 with regular park hoppers. To go from 4 days to 5 it is around $30-35. So I rationalized that it saves me that. So it isn't THAT much. I do also have an AP though, but I would be buying a ticket for my brother. Plus, the park hours are still showing them closing so early. So I figured it was worth it time-wise to be in a park until midnight. My sleep schedule is going to be so off after this!

I heard the twilight zone song on the radio that they play(played??) in the tunnel for TOT on my way to work. Brought back memories! But for TOT I was able to do MNSSHP the night before. It was perfect! It got me onto a late sleep schedule before the night race, and no alcohol in MK to tempt me! Sadly that is not the case this time. The only place open late is going to be DTD, and that late it is mostly bars, which wont help. I suppose we could walk around the Boardwalk and then hit the quiet pool hot tub (at the BC, I'm not sneaking in anywhere don't freak out on me!)

Would I get a MagicBand even if I don't purchase park tickets - just the room?
Yep - MBs are room keys now, so anyone staying onsite gets them.

Some friends and I did that last year: MVMCP the night before W&D and I agree - it was perfect! Stayed out until around 12:30am, slept in the next morning, rested an napped all day before the race. We planned on doing the same this year and they went and changed the schedule. :( I suspect I'll be a bit more tired and less enthusiastic at the party after the race lol!

That was my thinking too. We have AP's so it's not a regular ticket cost issue, but I don't think we'll be out at the parks early that day since we'll be up so late so I think being able to take advantage of the party would be a great way to get stuff done that we want in MK.

I love the Christmas party, and just Christmas in general, so having the photos would be fun, although our kids won't be there.

Yes, we have AP's so for us it's an additional cost, but I think it would be a great use of time considering our schedule for the week. We will hopefully get to sleep in!

Thanks you guys! Sorry for the dumb questions - we're usually "last-minute" or day-of visitors when we're in Florida, so I'm pretty excited for my first mini-FP+/MagicBand experience!!

Magic Band is the best. :) I felt like I was back in the Stone Age at Tink without it... carrying around a wallet, a paper ticket, hotel keycards, etc! :D

Just wondering where everyone is staying during thw marathon. We still havent picked a resort yet. Its just me running it so i want to make sure the husband and son can have a good nite and then meet me back at thw finishline.
I see on thw disney website that alot of the resort for the discount have been sold. What about calling rundisney. Wasnt sure what thwy had or if anyone has had any luck.

We are staying at POFQ. I don't know what kind of availability runDisney might have left at this point, but I know in the moderates, when I booked POFQ (through Orbitz) in the end of May, runDisney only had the Caribbean left. I think you can get the All-Stars anywhere via general availability (Disney or other travel sites), but it seems to be slim pickings other than those. I had been planning on trying to get a better discount at POFQ when the room discounts came out, but there's nothing available. :(

My family and I are staying at Animal Kingdom Villas. This is my first W & D 1/2 so I'm hoping that there will be taxis to take us back to the resort after the race?

I was hoping of an AP discount to come out but nothing yet. I dont mind staying at the all stars. Were not going to b there long. Ill more then likely call rundisney and see what they have. I also just got a pin through email today, so fingers crossed that gives me something.

So I did my POT race this morning. It was a 10k and I finished in 1:10:35.

I met my goal of coming in under a 12 min/mi but I am really disappointed. My right IT band started to hurt very badly right after mile 4. Aerobically I felt like I could run faster but every step was so painful on my right knee. I just started training 4 weeks ago because of unrelated surgery and have battled with this darn IT band. I am hoping that the strain is because I have pushed it hard very quickly. My trainer said to ice it several times today and stretch it well. I am going to heed her advice and take care of it. But still disappointing. On a lighter note, my new Brooks shoes were amazing!

Try an IT band strap! Worked wonders for me.
